first impressions of the device? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Enough with the pre order talk.. I want to hear about the device. For everyone with the device, what are you first impressions? Build quality worth the hype? I have a honeycomb tab already, does quad core help it out ?

I'll happily let you know in a couple hours when UPS delivers mine

Honey comb is horrible. Wifi and speaker are weak, ice cream sandwich can't get here fast enough. Some thing is just not right, almost feels like it is fps locked with the stutters I'm getting. No way should it be CPU limited with tegra 3 .. Living up to the hype? Let's just say I understand why they debated on delaying it on ics.

What the hell is up with everyone thinking that ICS will magically make everything better? I think most of the major performance-related improvements were done in Honeycomb (like hardware acceleration, for instance).
I guarantee you that if you're not satisfied with the performance now, you won't be satisfied with ICS.

Read annadtech's review, they complain about the wifi , speaker and overall hesitant to recommend it as well. I think there spot on, hardware is there I believe it's the dam software..

hmmm well thats not a good start... all the reviews are positive. anyone else?

stutters? where are you getting stutters? the only thing i complained about is the stock browser, its still slow. and weak speaker? are you kidding me, have you used an speaker on a tablet before? where and when did you get your device.

I've had the galaxy tab, iPad 2 and gf defiantly thinks it's weaker then her speaker and agrees. Hell my epic touch speaker is louder. I'm getting stutters in Web browser (HD dolphin, opera, and stock) during scrolling and even while loading. Force close on NFL direct TV app. and omg try Netflix , market stutters... The movies do actually play well though. I got mine through tiger direct yesterday. How's your wifi signal? Maybe I got one of the defective ones like Annatech did twice.

You're telling me an ice cream sandwich never made your day better?

Well, there will ALWAYS be outliers, in everything. Kind of the exception that proves the rule.
Pretty much everyone else here who's gotten hands-on with the Prime hasn't had this kind of negative experience, and so I'm going to be reserving my own judgment until I have mine in my own hands.

Eh? The Anandtech reviewer, probably the most in depth one, felt he had okay wireless on his 3rd unit. Even then he said it wasn't as good as the original transformer. Many other reviews are very superficial.
For the record, I've ordered one. But I'm not emotionally invested in this device like many on this forum are (not saying you are).

I agree that the speaker might not be as loud, but i think it wins in its clarity, and franfly i think its loud enough when you are holding it. dolphin and stock stutters a bit for sure, but even opera? that's odd. how far away from the router are you, i have the early production one but wifi seems to be fine.

Try it before you buy!
I do not own one, but I have played with almost daily in a Gamestop store here in NYC.
Very disappointed. So much so that I cancelled my order with TD.
The speaker is soo quiet is just ridiculous. Much bigger than you'd think.
Screen is super bright but it has this very unatractive yellowish tint and the colors look washed out. Laggy as hell.
It is on display next to the Tab 10.1 and after playing with both side by side, I almost went and got the Samsung tablet instead.
I think I'll wait for the Tab 7.7 now. Screen and speaker sound is just too importabt to me.

I can't believe this, I'm not sure if you guys are trolling, but with EVERY review i saw the device was just superb smooth. Maybe the browser isn't too optimize, but overall the device is just smooth as butter in the video's. I can't see why that wouldn't be with the retail one.

This review makes me think twice! Transformer original owners take a look!

I found this review to be rather interesting because it addresses some issues I found with the original transformer. This makes me think twice about getting the Prime or waiting till ICS comes out and some reviews are done with ICS! Seems the browser issue is still there even with quad core.

the stock browser in HC has been a piece of crap from its inception. adding more cores can't make up for poor coding. however there are many other browser choices which should make this a nonissue until ICS is out and [hopefully] google gets off their ass and does some work in optimization.
that was really the only gripe i got from the review, that HC is a half assed OS, and i tend to agree, but it works well enough and the hardware on the prime is good enough to make it something i can deal with for a month or so until ICS is out.
What's the best browser alternative?
I've spent some time w/ Dolphin HD & Opera Mobile on my Kindle Fire, and they're both OK, but not great.
I use Miren on my phone and it works great, but I don't know if there is a tablet version
I see nothing bad in this review other than reviewer's obvious dislike of Honeycomb.

This review actually makes me want it more! This is a guy that didn't want to like it and was really impressed by it anyway. He just doesn't like HC. Most people don't at this point. If they loved it ICS wouldn't be such a hot topic.
Almost feels like he was pressured to make up something negative so he doesn't sound biased one way or the other. Overall, it's positive and will be more so once ICS is available.
Good, honest review, though he was looking for a 16gb Prime.. and we all know there's no such animal.
It's a shame ASUS couldn't get this thing out with ICS on it.
Hopefully most places have the sense to do a re-review when ICS drops

Exactly! And the checkerboard display on webpages. I would have thought a quad core and more GPU channels would have fixed it. Those are my only gripes about the current transformer.
if the only thing he can really complain about is the rubbish stock browser and slow text inputting, I'm not concerned.
plenty of 3rd party browsers out there. roll on release day!
At this rate, it might just ship with ICS...

In my Tegra 2 devices it does not matter which browser you use, stock or dolphin mini, or any of the many others... I found it to be the same in every browser and even worst in browsers supporting multi tabs.
This thread/link failed at it's title. That review was honest although he seemed to want to be biased. He compared it to ipad2 n even said the scrolling was faster. He said this the first tablet to make mobile gaming seem like a big deal. In other words he was saying this the best tablet he ever messed with. We all know the issues with honeycomb. B.s. Comments like I hope the prime can handle simple text inputs is stupid. My tegra2 Atrix phone handlesmthat just fine. As far as browsers go, it does make a difference using third party, ones. Even on iPad safari sux. I always use third party browsers no matter what device I'm using. Icab n atomic browser are the best on iPad. The best on android is dolphin browser HD and opera mobile. All that link to the review is make me anticipate the arrival of my tablet even more. No device is perfect all around. Especially the iPad n look how well it has done. The prime will be a great device all around and will set the bar very high for upcoming tablets.
People always try to find some b.s. Negative comment/ rumor to down something not even out yet. Plus the browsing in iPad/ipad2 is not all that fast anyways. All this comparing is b.s. Two different devices basically aimed at different audiences. iPad is for the noobs are people wanting simplicity with no thought processing or customizing. My iPad doesn't count, I hacked da he'll out of it PRIME IS FOR XDA

Lag and Stuttering. Graphics in Android and the (non) Impact of ICS

The link below is to a blog from Dianne Hackborn. She's a software engineer at Google and works in Android OS development. She provides, in great detail, an explanation of how Android renders graphics. She compares Android to iOS and discusses why there's perceived stuttering and/or lag and what Google's doing to make it better.
There are tons of posts here where people are looking at ICS to be the second coming of Christ. It is for 2.X users. For HC users, not so much. HC is the foundation for ICS and the h/w acceleration that was introduced in HC isn't going to change in ICS. Bottom line is ICS will bring a teriffic new UI, updates to many existing OS functions, new features, and the inclusion in the OS natively many of the functions previously added by the manufacturers (EG: MKV support). Like all OS updates, it will be more refined then the versions preceding it but it is an evolution of HC not an entirely new OS. In other words, the biggest technical enhancement is introducing h/w acceleration to 2.X devices; something we HC users already have.
There's been discussions here about stuttering, lag, and the performance of some apps not seeming to benefit from a quad-core processor. Dianne's blog explains why that is and why ICS isn't going to change much. The fastest h/w can't overcome s/w issues or bottlenecks and the GPU and memory bandwith can play a bigger role than the processor in graphics rendering. Hopefully Dianne's summary answers questions people have about UI performance and sets an expectation for ICS.
And, unless you too are an engineer on Google's payroll writing Android OS code, it would seem kind of futile to challenge what Dianne's stating as fact. In fact, if you have issues or comments for her, she responds to posts in her blog.
Happy reading - it's a long one.

Where are all those fools that flamed me saying the ATP has no lag and is as "smooth as butter" even with the live wallpaper running in the background? Some of them also post how ICS is gonna own this and own that......yeah yeah yeah....blah blah blah. I'll reserve a wait and see attitude. I hope their right lol.
I just picked up my ATP w/dock. It took the opening of 3 units and a pissed off manager to get one with absolutely no defects and working wifi/gps. They ever tried to hide one from me. All 3 of them and the store demo experience lag. I only got it to take advantage of Tegra 3 optimized games and the sick dock. Compared to my ipad 2 the UI experience is meh...outside of Riptide GP & Shadowgun.
For gaming and general consumer usuage I choose iOS/A5 over Android/ATP. Hopefully when I have my ipad 2 on me no one shows up with Shadowgun on ATP
Thanks for the link!
That was a good read. Very informational. I always kinda thought thats how it works but didnt have any actual evidence, now I do..and have an even better understanding.
It isn't *just* ics that I think will make a big impact on the prime. Hardware accelleration is there, sure, but what we do have to like forward to is the software optimization for more than 2 cores, either done by Google for ics, or by Asus for the ics distribution we will eventually see.

Did you read the article? It's the GPU and memory bandwidth that impact the UI and what's rendered to the display. For video and other CPU intensive apps like games, the processors will do a better job at the task level but once the display gets involved there's not much they can do. You can only get 10 pounds of **** in a 10 pound bag.

I'm glad my prime isn't suffering from these issues some users are experiencing.
seriously though, I wish these people didn't have issues so they could truly see how great this device really is. just as people with issues' , there's even more people greatly satisfied with prime/tegra3.
p.s. this thumb keyboard is really cool and works very well.

I don't thinks it's bad news. For what I do with a tablet, I think Android's great. So much time and energy is spent seeking the perfectly fluid UI and transitions when, if you think about, we probably spend ten percent or less of our time moving between things and 90% doing things. If my choice is to give up the freedom of Android and move to iOS to avoid occasional stutter and lag, I'd rather stay on Android. The better GPU and increased memory bandwidth in Teg3 should make things incrementally better which is great. And I'm sure what Dianne shared is pretty well know so hopefully future chips will continue to improve the experience. My purpose of posting wasn't to piss and moan but just to share the science behind it all.

Did you DL the OTA update? Is it set to normal? I played with one at my local gamestop and it was great. Transitioned from screen to screen very smoothly and shadow gun was sick, just plan sick! It was super thin and sturdy and i can't wait to get mine on wednesday.
I do hope they fix the GPS issues that some people are having though. The won't effect me but obviously it really affects some.
As as far as the WIFI stuff is concerned I keep hearing about how many bars it shows and hear nothing about how the wifi actually functions. Other than that it works like any other device they have used.

A Gamestop employee called me up and said that they got the primes and docks in and would open for 4 hours on Christmas. They had forgot that I canceled my original order on the 16th. I asked him if other Gamestop's are open and he said no. He only opened so we could get our primes by Christmas and to catch up on inventory. If you read my other post you'd see that the manager refused my return becuase of the Holiday and said he'd call me tomorrow.

I've had an iPad 2 since release and am now seeking out a TFP. My iPad 2 and my wife's iPad 2 have had nothing but horrible wifi issues since we got them. It got to the point where I had to put in a second router just for the iPads because they would drop constantly from my dual channel Netgear. They seemed to work with the Linksys. I even swapped out the hardware and it still dropped every 30 seconds or so. Fortunately it seems that 5.0.1 or one of the other updates fixed this, but I had to live with it for over 6 months with no acknowledgement from Apple.
Also, iPad wifi version doesn't even have GPS.
Ok. Maybe im allitle bias towards android BUT. I find with apple products, their great for the average user. Which is perfect for id say 90% of people. But for me (and id say most android users) like the freedom that android provides. Like say themes, custom roms, overclocking, and just general settings. So androids not for everyone. Thats fine, so have fun with your lock pad. (I meant that in a funny tone)

I agree with Husker, guy seems to want to start an iPhad argument. And as Jrock says, it's had its share of issues too. This guy can't even wait till it gets its intended OS = ICS. Honey Comb is on this just so it doesn't go out the door blank. If it sucks that bad, I'll buy it from you right now for 3/4 of what you paid, after all it does have your grubby fingerprints all over it and apparently its a pos.

One of my uses for a tablet is video (TV shows or movies) when traveling for business. iPad or iPad 2 will never fit my needs for this with it's old acquainted 4:3 display.

3 Android tablets all running Honeycomb. What did he expect? At least see how Ice Cream performs on a tablet.
Looks like it's on his Galaxy Nexus he used to submit his comments. He might as well sale his Galaxy Nexus for an iPhone 4S (wait it does not have 4G). To use his language then the iPhone 4S must be a load of Crap.

Is it that bad?

Hi guys,
I went to Best Buy yesterday and got to try your Asus Prime. Wow! I was impress by the speed and the Ics. I was gonna buy it but they freshed out.
However, I did some reading on your Q&A add I see that the little ***** is giving you some trouble. Is it that bad, is it happening to everybody? I currently own a gtb 7510. Is not bad. I have a custom rom Task14 and oc'd to 1.4 with petshoots kernel. Still, the Asus is pretty impressive with its speed is very responsive and the display is beautifull.
Gtap is ok but its still not @ par with the ipad2. I think the asus prime (the one I tried) does size up to the ipad3.
So, is everyone here having issues with the ATP?
Thank you.
Edit- I'm asking all this because I'm still on time to return my gtab.

welll for me my Asus TF Prime been good do far. Had it for about 3 weeks.
I'm in the UK btw.
Everything is working and running smoothly on this tablet. No crashes whatsoever.
I guess it depends are lucky you are. For me I am lucky i have a 100% perfect Tablet.
But then every product I have brought by far has been good to me apart from the dell streak 5 which lasting for 2 monthes the screen suddenly broke!
I say go ahead buy this tablet, You won't regret it. Did I mention that this tablet looks sexy too!
It does look sexy!
It sure runs everything you throw at it.
I got 1080p .mkv files to play which I couldn't on my first Transformer.
It runs my playstation games great too (emu)
Wireless gamepad (BT) on the go. I am using the ps3 pad.
I do use onlive on my tablet and it is amazing.
Free splashscreen software which I stream my pc desktop to my Prime at times. Can play CS:S on it lol
web surfing is fine by far. No hipcups.
Incredible super IPS+. Makes this look comparable to the new ipad with the brightness full & IPS+
I would use my Prime to type on here but I am currently using it to watch the Engadget podcast lol
Using the keyboard dock is nice. typing won't be as good as what you get on your keyboard but will pass. the batt is amazing. Surfing the net, checking my email, movie watching (1-2) will last me a whole day. when I am playing games and watching movies (2-3), listening to music it will last about 5-6 hours for me. ALL THESE NOT DOCKING THE TABLET INTO THE KEYBOARD DOCK.

I got mine 1 week ago in Germany, got a C20 serial, and it works perfectly, the GPS is not the best one i have used but does works. Locks relative fast to 10 sat's with no wifi.
Wifi is fast, i get all my 32mb internet speed while testing with Speedtest.net, Bluetooth works wonders.
While using BT a2dp and wifi my internet does get slow but the connection never drops.
Screen quality is amazing and using EZOverclock increased the Performance speed to 1.6ghz making video and gaming experience really good.
I'm very happy with my transformer, I'd buy it again without even thinking.
Edit: video and gaming was perfect even before OC, i just wanted the extra power ^^
It has been a great experience for me. I have no problems with my device. It has nice feel about it and your hands will seldom get tired of holding it with extended use. The battery just keeps going and going.
Mine has also been great and is an early one. Everything works fine and even got gps locks the one time I tested it, haven't needed it since so it has been off for months. Wifi is fine on it so have absolutely no complaints, I really enjoy it.
get it! lol. had my prime since 12/22 and hasn't let me down yet. been using it nonstop. I came fro IOS/Ipad to the prime. The difference in speed, power, and everything is night n day better than my Ipad. if you get one now, chances very slim to get one with issues some experienced. its more than worth it. I'm still amazed at how well mines work and how thin and light this tablet is. plus the battery lasts long as a mofo.
Get it, its a great device I'm really pleased with mine. No issues with it although this is number 3. First 2 had bright spots on the screen when using a white background so make sure u check the screen very closely right away

I'm really pleased with my Prime. I do get the occasional browser stutter but, apart from that, performance has been fine. I would say that it seemed more reliable once I took Chrome off and re-installed Flash (but this may just be coincidence!). GPS performance is the same as for other people i.e. iffy at best!
Only complaints from me are stock browser stutter, WiFi performance drops off considerably if I use my PS3 controller via BT at the same time, and screen glare (this thing is shiny)!
So I just use another browser besides stock, and use the controller with games that don't need WiFi, or if they do, I switch to my Logitech usb controller.
I've had mine for about 3 weeks, and just had a random reboot last night. I'm completely fine with that, my iPad 2 had a few random reboots in it's time as well.
I installed an anti-glare screen, which works fine.
The keyboard dock is great..!
The only issues I've had with my tablet were caused from unstable custom ROMs like CM9 KANG and AOKP Milestone 4. I'm currently running stock and haven't had any issues. I'll be waiting until an official build of AOKP or CM9 comes to the Prime before switching back away from stock.

The issues with the Prime are fairly overblown.
Most people don't have a single complaint with regards to their Prime. The vast majority of people who come to XDA looking to talk about the Prime are people who are having some kind of issue they want to resolve and aren't really representative of the overall community or Prime owners.
My experience is that WiFi is just fine. Nearly as good as my Windows laptop and better than my Galaxy S2 phone. It even works well when I am streaming music to a set of Bluetooth headphones.
I have a very slight light bleed in one corner that is only noticeable on the boot screen. However compared to my Dell laptop the light bleed would probably be considered non-existent. Viewing angles, color, saturation etc are all very good.
GPS doesn't work for Navigation which is why Asus removed it from the feature list, however it works perfectly fine for location-based services like Search.
In general there is nothing to complain about. The Prime is very good product and it has basically replaced my laptop as my go-to device for web browsing, email and light office work. If you combine it with the keyboard dock it is an even more useful device and battery life is stellar when compared to any similar laptop/tablet.
I honestly believe that the Prime is one of the best and most useful tablet devices available right now. The only reason that I might want to wait on purchasing it is to see what the TF Infinity will be like. The TF Infinity should be nearly identical to the Prime, but will have a better screen and possible better GPS. It will also cost $100 more.

lol..
You have to remember that the people complaining are a small fraction of the total userbase.
The problem with internet ratings is that when you have a problem, you'll be dam sure to look it up and post in the appropriate forum, blog, website.. whatever.
If you have no issue, why would you bother to look for the websites?
My prime is awesome, no issues whatsoever.
I'm only here because I happen to develop some minor stuff for another device on Android and now own a prime. but I'm the small percentage saying this thing rocks.

No matter which XDA Device thread you read, you will be scared to hell. I mean if I would have a problem with my TFP I would post here, because there are tons of competent people around here.
Never fix your buy-decision on the xda threads of the device. I was happy with the last 3-4 phones I've had, but when I check the xda forums for them it seems like I'm the only one who was happy at all

Nexus 7 vs HTC Flyer

How much faster is Nexus 7 compare to HTC Flyer for real world usage.
I've been using Flyer for about a year now and it's seem to be very slow to me, especially when surfing websites.
Can Nexus handle flash better with Quad cores and all?
I want to know if it worth giving away my Flyer and buy Nexus 7. If it's not too much different, then I'll just keep the flyer.
I've had both and TBH with my Flyer being overclocked to 1.84 GHZ I can notice no difference between the two in smoothness when browsing, tweeting, reading..etc
That said though, JB and quad core does make a difference ofcourse, especially when games are concerned.

I don't know about the Nexus 7, but for your Flyer, you may want to try the Puffin Browser off of the Android Market/Google Play before you buy another tablet. It sped my web surfing up tremendously. The company suggests trying the free version of the app first.
Also, u may want to search Nexus 7 + flash. I've read that it doesn't natively support flash (not certain), but hopefully that's nothing that a downloaded app can't fix.
I have great browsing with Boat browser.
Trust me its a huge speed difference. You guys saying its barely noticeable are just lieing to yourselves. Its like comparing choppiness to butter. Yea there similar alright. Cmon now.
Aside from speed the flyer has a full 7 inch screen in complete use (gingerbread only) and a nice pen function going for it.
yeah gotta agree with you. nexus 7 is faster. That feeling when I use my brother's Nexus7 and then i go back using my flyer ><

Im in the EXACT situation haha
Flyer good...Nexus incredible!
I've had my Flyer for over a year and have been fighting rom issues since then, it is workable (except GPS...Shame on you HTC for not fixing this!). Side by side -I've had my Nexus for 3 days now, the nexus screen is brighter, better contrast- whites now look slightly yellowed on the Flyer. Nexus speed is much better(expected), BT, GPS, & WiFi all operate flawlessly. I am using a usb adaptor cable from Amazon ($2.00)! to further expand storage and also connects to other devices for file transfer and viewing.Battery life on the Flyer was a solid 4.5 hours with constant video loop running- I expect 2/3 to twice the run time with the Nexus. I have a rooted-32g Nexus...couldn't be happier at this point!
Final note- I side loaded Flash and it works well with Firefox Beta.:fingers-crossed: Update:Boat browser is very fast and stable, I usually have to reboot my Flyer a couple of times a day due to lag or sometimes freezing...not so with the Nexus.
The two aren't even comparable. The N7 blows the flyer/view4g away in every aspect. I have the Veiw4g and the N7, and I don't even use the view anymore. It's so slow and crappy, it's not even worth it. If you are thinking about getting the N7, just do it. The flyer is dated now, and it's not going to get any fast no matter what you do.
Oh, and as far as media consumption goes, the N7 can actually handle everything I throw at it. I can't even watch my vulkano in anything more than low res on the view. But the N7 I can put it to it's highest quality setting and it works great. Same with Hulu, and Netflix. As well as streamed content from my HTPC.
I've played with the N7 at stores and it's pretty nice.
If Someone gave me one for free, I probably would use my flyer drastically less.
However, as much as I want project butter on my flyer I find that it would probably be a waste of money for me to personally upgrade. I'll still do the same stuff with either device.. Browse web, facebook, read books, and avoid pulling out a netbook when I can. So it raises the question why upgrade if I have a perfectly working device?

You sir are corect N7 blows but not Flyer away but simply BLOWS; with no SD card, no stereo sound, no vibra, no front camera, no pen, no HW buttons; so wjhat extra from cpu and scree is there left at all? No sim?
So that means:
limited to no small amount of space
Cant do videocalls (good luck with mirrors)
No silent alert wheil in classes, meetings ect...
Less screen
ect ect...
For mine usage of device it BLOWS unlike Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 wich is quite nice; more up to date device then Flyer and has that "magic" JB/ICS, wich Flyer doesent; but even with the JB ports we do have for Flyer we have more working hardware then Nexus have. And good luck with rearlly suported tegra games.

Umm, they are coming out with a 3g N7, you realize that, right? The sound between the two is comparable, as I HAVE both. Is having vibrate really necessary on a tablet? And it has a front camera, just no rear camera? I'm beginning to wonder if you have even used the device. It has a front camera specifically for video calls. HW buttons are a matter of preference, but not a necessity. The pen I will give you, but when you can't even get HTC to FIX the crap they broke with the update, IT"S NOT WORTH DEALING WITH IT. I will never own another HTC device after HTC screwed us over on the tablets. (not to mention the year wait on getting ICS on my old Tbolt, or 8 months for the rezound I bought) The SD card missing is a downer, but there are many workarounds that it's not a total loss. There is WIFI storage sharing (so I can use the 80GB I have on my phone between it's 64GB sd and 16 internal) Then there is USB OTG.
So that means:
limited to no small amount of spaceYou are not limited, just not as easy to add storage as with the flyer/View
Cant do videocalls (good luck with mirrors)This is just flat wrong
No silent alert wheil in classes, meetings ect... Really? It doesn't have a LED, but it does still "alert", just on screen. How many alerts do you have set up on your tab? I have almost none. Mostly calendar appt's and such.
Less screenHow? If there is a difference(16:9 vs 16:10) its a matter of a .1 inch or so.
ect ect...

I cant give u sdcard to share u mine documents with is prity common on all mobiel devices. U cant film your gf or take pic of her, u cant draw or handwrite, no way to listen to quality music since onlly suporting 1 chanel insted of minimum 2 for stereo.

CORECTOMUNDO - u did figure it already with rear camera working SD slot but u forgot the pen and hw buttons we have stereo sound as well on JB and vibra working. All this is working on Flyer loaded with JB and is something N7 wont EVER have. Never Ever.
All i am saying is for what i need tab N7 sucks. Now if your onlly use of tab is a bit faster browsing i guess N7 is a winer buy. I unfortunally expect more. And there is much N7 does simplly not offer. Its not cheap for no reason I wont go into ghosting and cracking screens...

Yeah, I still honestly love the build quality on the flyer and it still has a relatively nice screen.
Since you are on the JB rom, I need to ask did they get the screen to turn off properly yet? That was the only thing holding me back personally. As long as it has good battery life I am really considering using it.

if you are referring to the backlight remaining on after locking the screen - it still occurs quite often. however, if i turn it on and off a few times it eventually completely turns off (can be quite annoying) i am really not sure of the battery life as i basically keep the flyer charged.
P.S. I recently had a few random reboots ( but only once while I was actually using it ) and it won't play HD YouTube - not that big o f a deal to me
