[Q] Problem with backup using CWM 5027 - HTC Amaze 4G

I am using CWM 5027.
When running a backup I get errors about missing external SD but one is installed. The errors are:
No /sdcard/.android_secure found. Skipping backup of applications on external storage.
No sd-ext found. Skipping backup of sd-ext.
Since it backs up to the SD I'm not sure you would want it to also back up the SD itself. Seems like an infinite loop problem (at least until it runs out of space). However, the fact that it doesn't see external storage, particularly for the first error, seems to be something I should fix. Does this have anything to do with how the SD card is named? Or does it have to do with how apps on external storage are stored? I used the normal android tools to move large apps to SD.
Thanks.

[Q]

Went from Vegan 5.1 to CM7 following the instructions on this site.http://viewsonic-gtablet-for-dummies.webs.com/rom.htm My problem is in CWM I've got access to all folders once Gtab is booted in CM7 there are no folders. No backup for Titanium Backup to restore even though I can see it CWM. Can't view APK's I know are there etc...
Looks like CM7 uses "SD card" storage for an actual external micro SD card and uses "/mnt/emmc" for internal storage. Unfortunately all my files are stored internal, Vegan 5.1 used "SD card" storage for the internal storage. So my question is how do I get CM7 to read my internal files as "SD card" like Vegan 5.1 did?
found a .zip file that will swap internal and external file systems in CM7 http://goo.gl/DS8u9 Why they would make the rom read like this IDK when every other rom reads the other way. Anyway IDK if there will be problems with an external card with this .zip setup but right now I'm just trying to see if I can get Netflix working on CM7 so I'll deal with that later I guess...
It is actually the proper way to map it per Google so that is why Cyanogenmod does it that way. Mapping for /sdcard is for an actual sdcard and not for internal, non-removable storage.

Confusion about SD-Card in Samsung Galaxy SII

Hello All,
Just got a white one without any external SD-Card (the micro SD) installed. I was able to root it using the CF-ROOT V5.0 guide which is an excellent resource for noobs like me.
Using the CWM (which shows in the applications menu after the root) I was able to take phone complete backup.
Now the confusion begins that even though there was no external SD card installed the backup took place and then it was saved in
Code:
/sdcard/Clockworkmod/backup/folder_name_date_time
Infact /sdcard is the home directory to start with, which is shown when I browse files using the built-in file manager called "My Files".
So when is there is no SD-Card installed, why is the internal home directory called SD-Card , where the nandroid backups are saved automatically ? (i guess the internal storage is also called SD-Card, is it so ? bad naming idea then)
Now I did install a 2GB external SD-card and formatted it using the storage options within the settings menu.
So apparently this (actual) SD-card is mounted in the directory called
Code:
/sdcard/external_sd
Then again I tried taking a nandriod backup hoping that it would automatically detect this available external sd card and would save the backups, which did not happen and the nandroid again took backup to the internal SD storage.
So how to direct nandroid to take and place backups on the external SD card.?
Secondly I have also read about the Sd-Ext partition, can someone please explain what is this partition , how is it made, and what is the benefit of using this partition. Can i make it a default location for installing application and what other uses can I have of an SD-Ext partition.?
Do i need App2SD and Link2SD in order to use SD-ext partition for any purposes.?
If I take a backup again using nadriod would it place it on the SD-Ext partition or the left over space in the regular SD card partition. ?
Thanks a lot for reading and clearing up my confusion mentioned above.

Well,
Thanks however I am hoping some more details to satisfy the specific queries I had, waiting for the gurus to shed some light.
Thanks again.

[Q] Error mounting externalSD on CWM on SGSIII (i9300)

Hi,
Three weeks ago I had my SGSIII rooted and with a custom ROM and regular backup in the external SD card and everything was working OK.
I wanted to remove all the information form the internal memory and decided to format the internal memory, so using CWM (6.0.4.7) I made all the wipes and formatted:
/system
/cache
/preload
/data
I think that one of those formats was the source of the error, but I don't know which one!
Afterwards I tried to access the externalSD card from the restore menu to restore one of my NAND backups, but the extrenalSD card was not accessible (E: Can't mount /storage/sdcard1) neither from the install zip menu (same error). the SD card was OK because was workable in another phone. I tried to mount the external SD card from the mounts and storage menu but gave an error (Error mounting /storage/sdcard1!)
Since I could not restore my NAND backups, I restored the stock ROM (JB 4.3) using odin and afterwards I rooted the phone and install again CWM (6.0.4.7) but the problem persisted and now I am using the stock ROM and can access the external SD card from android normally.
I have looked about this error and all the cases I have found are using older versions of CWM and recommend to format the external SD card, so I did, but the problem persisted.
So my questions are:
- What have I done wrong?
- How can I fix it?
Afterwards I thought that I could copy the NAND backup from the external SD to the internal memory so I made NAND backup to see where it was stored, but using ultra explorer I cannot find the location (furthermore, according to the DiskUsage App the space is used but does not inform me where it is).
I have asked Google for the location of the backups in the internal memory (I can not recall such locations) but the folders did not exist or where empty. So:
- Is it possible to copy a backup from the external SD card into the internal memory?
- How can it be done?
Thanks in advance for your help and sorry for the lengthy post.

Best way to mount external SD card to internal folders?

So I have an HTC M8 which accepts an external SD card. I have it mounted as external/portable storage not internal/adoptable storage. (Technically I also have a portion of this card mounted as f2fs to be used with apps2sd).
There are many apps which backup restore preferences from /sdcard (the internal memory) such as Titanium Backup.
This only works if I don't wipe my internal storage when flashing a new ROM.
Since these apps don't have a configuration to allow them to point to another location, I need to find a way to map my /external_sd/TitaniumBackup to /sdcard/TitaniumBackup.
I would like this to be as low-level as possible to the directory is available as early in the build/boot process.
I am also using Magisk if this helps.
Is anyone else doing something similar? What's the best way?
thanks

The old SD-Card Problem

Hi Forum,
I have the Xenon-Android installed and never got that sdcard problem solved.
I have that internal and external one (sdcard0 / sdcard1) and can't manage to get data to the external sd in Google Play as in Maps and so on.
Isn't it possible to just have internal memory and sdcard being the sdcard like on other phones.
Can I change some mounting or whatever and resize internal partition somehow.
I would install some other OS, is the backup / test phone anyway, nothing essential.
