I can't upgrade tab using Kies - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't get Kies to upgrade my tab. My tab is recognised but when I am connected to it, it says "Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies."

Mine did the same. Once. Cannot connect to Kies since then, just by wifi. If I want to connect by USB, it says "Unsupported connection mode alert - Reconnect the device in Samsung Kies (PC Studio) mode."
But this mode is not in my tab, I read others have Kies mode in the menu, but some versions doesn't. I spent already hours with that horrible Kies application...
Seems like we have now other, much better methods of updates - just causing the loss of warranty...

I get the same error from kies.

The KIES update doesn't work for me. Sorry I did not try to update mine from CWM yet, because it had issues with the screen turning on sometimes. I was waiting for 2 months what the customer service will say about the problems and updates. I explained them also the KIES update problem. Finally seams like my Internet/GSM provider's technical support don't know anything about the SIM locked devices they sell, not even at the beginners level, so said my device is probably wrong and to take into the service - last week. I am pretty sure not about it is not wrong, just the old ROM, and have some bad apps already removed.
So soon I will ROOT and update mine from CWM as I will have time. I want to forget the hopeless KIES... I use Linux all on my computers, just have a windows for these cases

While it is definitely your choice on whether or not to void the warranty on your devices, if you do the appropriate amount of reading about nvflash, fastboot and bootloaders, you can pretty much consider this device unbrickable, and if you ever needed to, you can load the software back onto the tablet that makes it so your warranty was never voided... at least in sammy's eyes

Thanks! I'm a little bit afraid about my telecom provider has a special localized ROM/firmware version, which I can't find on the internet and can't download. I have to do a system backup somehow, and when needed to restore and unroot in the worst case, but I don't have any experience yet with the tab. So good to know that it is unbrickable, thanks again!

Kies Won't Connect for GPS Fix - "PC Connection Only Available in Idle Screen"
Howdy folks,
Curious about the Kies firmware update with the GPS et al fix. Before I risk it, and perhaps not wait for TMobile OTA (whenever that may be), I want to connect via Kies (turned on that option from USB per thread on this), however I get the "PC only available in idle screen close running applications and try again" or something to that effect. I have killed all tasks, but do I need to kill Launcher Pro to get it to recognize the device for the firmware update or how do I get it to that condition?
I soft bricked this a long time ago but restored, recovered using this advice:
http://androidspin.com/2010/08/09/how-to-restore-or-recover-your-samsung-vibrant/
And those PIT and Tmobile stock image. Since then I have rooted and the OCLF and things are /have been working fine, (other than I can't get the OTA updates option because it says it can't initialize).
How can I get KIES to recognize this device by getting to the idle condition and should I?
Thanks for any assistance, I did search the threads and believe maybe it's Launcher Pro but want to be sure.
Thanks!

You can flash via Odin again with this zip file. To update via Kies you need to use the TouchWiz Launcher and nothing else.

Thanks this worked , using launch pro , now started TWlauncher n its connnecting
thank you very much, I think I'm just going to wait based on recent feedback from Tmo and others NOT to use the KIE update. Patience is a virtue (which I need more of). If it gets into November and no dice, I'll give it a shot.

[Q] KIES...the worst phone connectivity software ever?

Is it just me or is Kies the absolute worst phone connectivity software in existence?
I have been trying to do the firmware updates via Kies since they were released but keep getting the same error message (DLL Load Fail). I have tried the update on 2 PCs - 1 running Vista and the other running XP. I don't have access to a Windows 7 PC to try it.
Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with the SGS2 and apart from the occasional random reboot, I don't have any complaints. I would just like to be able to apply the firmware updates!
I've read a few solutions on another thread about using Odin, but I'm new to Samsung phones and a bit wary about Odin. Though I did a lot of rooting and custom ROM installs on my old HTC Desire so I'm no stranger to messing about with android hardware via unofficial means...I just don't want to be unofficially messing too much with my SGS2 since it's less than 3 weeks old.
Does anyone have a non-Odin solution to the crappy Kies DLL Load Fail problem?
NOTE TO ADMINS: Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong place, please feel free to move it if necessary.
I had the same problem (DLL Load Failure after firmware download) on two of my computers (Windows 7 SP1 x64) as well. After a few tries (including computer restarts and Kies reinstallation), the problem spontaneously went away - without any preceding configuration change I can remember.
If you continue to have firmware update problems and don't want to resort to ODIN you could try if a firmware update via Kies Wi-Fi (Home Screen -> Settings -> Wireless and network -> Kies via Wi-Fi) is possible.
In general, I do agree - Kies is the worst. It is really puzzling why Samsung Android phones can't just update via cell network/wifi like HTC devices (or even the Samsung Nexus S).

The answer is ODIN.
Seriously, just read it, read the SGS 1 forums etc... ODIN is what samsung use internally
I know this does not help you, but really, ODIN in 100 times more reliable and safer than Kies to update firmware. There are picture guides available right here on XDA.
also try running Kies update when you are freshly booted the phone in Airplane mode. Do not kill any tasks by ATK or in built Ram cleaner. Just boot > airplane mode> plug in and give it a try.
I have windows 7 and KIES is just soo slow, not tried updating firmware as have no issues with phone
(and not sure what improvements are included)
I have 2 computers and can only do certain things with either. One runs 7 64bit the other 7 32bit. One will work with Kies perfectly fine, and will run ODIN as well, but ADB is a complete no go.
The other will do ADB and Kies via Wifi, but nothing else.
Driver installation is the problem. One machine refuses to find drivers for SAMSUNG_Android and CDC_serial.
Works perfect for Me every time :-\. But odin works great too so to prevent any issues its prob best to use odin especially with all good support from xda

Absolutely agree it's shocking !
I have given up with Kies, but Odin is not working for me either!!!
It all seems to flash ok according mto Odin log, phone reboots, and then check the phone status and it's still at KDD firmware level ...
Any ideas what's wrong with Odin anyone?!

Lol this is exactly what I mean. People never doubt their devices. Oh kies doesn't work for me. There must be something wrong with Samsung and their crappy software. Oh no odin doesn't work either there must be something wrong woth odin too now. Kies and Odin work fine stop saying they don't. If it doesn't work the problem is on your end. How many freakin times... and I'm the one who is the troll here
Swyped from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
worst?....
its not great but itunes holds that crown by a country margin, had you forgotten about that?
er...
I never said Odin doesnt work, i was posting to try and get some useful tips on what i might be doing wrong rather than to receive mindless abuse.
And i am certainly not the only one with the Kies failure messages that seem to be rife.
Thanks for not even helping suggest what COULD be wrong on my side, which is exactly what i'm trying to find out. Troll

[Q] Kies

Hello!
I'm new to the forum!
I have a galaxy tab 10.1 that is 16GB.
I recently kept hearing about KIES.
So I installed the program. However, whenever I connect my tablet to my computer, KIES wouldn't recognize my tablet.
The only way I can connect the tablet with KIES is through KIES wifi on the tablet setting, which only let's me sync and won't let me update softwares.
Am I the only one having this problem with KIES? or is it just me?
Is there certain things I have to try before trying to connect the tablet?
an answer would be greatly appreciated
p.s.
I have tried reinstalling the driver few times through the connection troubleshoot... it didn't help

I have the exact same problem, have you found a solution yet?
Kies is a POS
I have been busy for almost a year on getting Kies to recognise my tablet. And even though quite a few people have got it working, none of the mentioned solutions work for my situation, except for the factory reset (i.e. wipe your tablet into factory status).
But alas, whenever I reinstall my software Kies will no longer recognise my tablet, and the software is run-of-the-mill stuff, all from Google Play.
So, I just bear it, and wait until the OTA gods are smiling down on me. Once in a while I update/upgrade Kies, re-test that it still does not work, and put Kies in the freezer.
If you try all solutions found in these fora (and not just xda) you might be lucky and find one that works for you, but lower your expectations.
So, probably best is to make backups, wipe to factory reset, get Kies to update and reinstall/restore your backup.
Just out of principle I myself will not be doing that as I will not let Kies dictate my actions. But that is just me.

i know this is super late, i'm sorry >.<;;.
So I didn't have to reset my tablet. Once the ICS update for my tablet was finally released, Kies started working too!
I hope you already figured it out..

ICS by itself worked momentarily on KIES, but 'lost it' again. But the latest KIES release seems to have solved most of the problems. The only problem left for me is that KIES forgets my tablet after I connect another tablet... So connect one P7510 and it recognises it, connect a second P7510 and it recognises that one, but then connecting the first one again and KIES will not recognise it anymore.
Independent of Firmware version (ICS on both) and KIES version... Tried to install an old version of KIES: no luck. Did al the bells and whistles (connect over Wifi and USB at same time and remove Wifi, USB debugging, re-install drivers, KIES, complete cleanup and reinstall) but nothing works anymore. Only a complete Windows factory recovery and install KIES works fine. Not a solution!

Kies unsupported device

Hey.
So i'm stalking kies lately to see when a new rom for my s3 is released in my country (portugal). I connect my phone regulary to my laptop anyway to charge it but yesterday kies went full retard, said my device was incompatible with kies 2.0 and refused to connect.
Nothing changed from the previous day when it was working great (even backed up my phone). Kies is on the latest version 2.5.whatever (it complains about 2.0 compatibility though), phone is a genunie S3, ICS, unrooted, unlocked and unbranded never changed in any way. Tried 4 different usb ports (3x2.0 and 1x3.0), Kies drivers are installed and were repaired again by kies troubleshooting section and i even reinstalled kies.
I am using windows 8 x64 but since it always worked don't think this is the problem. Nothing was installed or removed in either th phone or the computer.
I fully realize kies is a piece of **** of a software and i'm also fully aware that i don't even need it, but since there was no reason to stop working i thought of asking if this has happened to anyone before and why.
btw, i've seen someone asking this in the proper thread but there was no anwser, it's a newbie question: if i flash the original samsung JB firm from UK through odin (not even rooting, just the original thing) it will increase my counter, say it's modified and pop me a yellow triangle, right?
Thanks.
reinstall kies and all is good
please clean the pc from all driver rests and reboot too.

Kies update not working

Hey everyone.
I'm running into a really annoying issue. I picked up the T-Mobile GS5 a couple weeks ago and rooted it shortly thereafter. That is the only mod I've done, but it obviously blocks OTA updates.
With the new (NE6) update stable, I want to upgrade, so am trying to use Kies. Unfortunately, I can't get it to work. Everytime I try, I get the "new firmware available" alert, but when I attempt to proceed, Kies just freezes. I've tried not using the auto-update and selecting "Firmware Upgrade" manually, but no difference.
I was originally trying on an XP virtual machine (VMWare Workstation under Linux), and thought maybe that was the issue so tried under a Windows 7 VM. Same issue. So I tried the Mac version of Kies on my MBP. This time, I got to the screen where you need to check off that you agree to the update terms, but when it begins to download, Kies loses connection to the phone and it eventually errors out. So I tried a Win7 bootcamp attempt, but same general Windows failure. So I tried a baremetal (on PC hardware) Windows 7 attempt, and I'm sitting here at a slightly grayed out Kies screen that is unresponsive. In each method above, I tried numerous times with reboots of the computer and phone.
I searched, but couldn't find any similar issues. Based on the number of attempts on different computer scenarios, I have to believe it's an issue with my phone, but outside of this it works great. I've tried disabling developer mode, rebooting numerous times (phone and computer), etc. etc.
Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? I consider myself fairly adept at Android and have a lot of custom experience with Nexus devices, but am not super familiar with the intricacies of Samsung products.
I used the Odin root method, and see there are firmware packages to upgrade that way, but believe it would factory reset my device - correct?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
I read that sometimes having an external SD card can cause issues. Just tried removing that since I did have one installed. No difference.
try right click and run it as administrator with Kies see it work or not, also download the NE6 firmware files from sammobile and use odin to flash it, it wont factory reset yr phone, only thing u will lose is root but it can re-root with same step u did before.

Thanks, I did try that too but no difference. For some reason, my phone seems to be incompatible with Kies.
After a lot of frustration, last night I did manually upgrade using Odin and the firmware files in the stock zip thread over in the dev section here. Initially, I only did the 'firmware' upgrade, since it seemed that the 'full' package would wipe the device (based on the comments in that thread), but that actually caused a lot of issues (fingerprint reader stopped working, etc.). So I was forced to use the full one, and it worked without wiping my device, which I'm quite happy about.
I did lose root, but for now I'm good. I mainly wanted it to restore from TiBu, but haven't needed root since, so I'll leave it stock and try the next OTA update.
I'm just more concerned about why Kies failed on 5 different machines (virtual or physical).
