Ok, I'm kinda embarrassed by this, but I can't seem to set mp3 for ringtone as of today. I know I did it before, either in music player or in file explorer by longpressing the file and selecting "set as" option. Today, I tried to change my ringtone and none of the menus don't have "set as" option anymore. Is it the Moto update?
br Zola
Here is one of the way to use .mp3, .ogg or .mid as your ringtone.
1) create directory /sdcard/Ringtones
2) put your favorite ringtones in the directory
3) Restart/reboot to refresh media listing
4) Menu -> Settings -> Sound ->Phone ringtone -> Android System (if Any)
5) Choose your ringtone file
For Notification
1) create /sdcard/Notifications
2) put your favorite ringtones in the directory
3) Restart/reboot to refresh media listing
4) Menu -> Settings -> Sound ->Notification ringtone -> Android System (if Any)
5) Choose your ringtone file
This works on N1, SGS and RAZR
Good luck.
Ok, tnx. But I should be able to use "set as" option in menus. Or not?
br Zola
I use that method because,, I also cannot find the 'Set as' in RAZR . Well, it is just one of the way it.
Thank you, used your method, works just fine.

The only way to do it on this phone is to go to the stock music player and choose the song. Play it and hit your menu buttons it give u a option then to use it as a ring tone. Or u can do the steps above.

If you want to set your MP3's as ring tones on your HD2, just go to your storage card select my documents and create a new folder called (My Ringtones). Then go to your music, hold down on the file to copy. Now go back to to the folder you created (My Ringtones) and hold down in an empty area and select paste. You now have your music file, click it once to open the file, then hold down, you will see set as ring tone. That's it.......enjoy.
Just a quick note....you can now see your ringtones, IE...when you do an edit on your contacts, go to ringtones and there you will find your mp3's.
Or you could just go to your music files in File Explorer and hold down on the
music file you require till the option window opens up and scroll to the bottom,
you will see 'Set as ringtone' as one of the options.....
Using MP3 trimmer is the best way,why bother using up more space than need be or ringtones when you can just use MP3 trimmer to save the fav parts of whatever tunes it is you choose.
Hi,
does anybody know where the default fallback ringtone is saved?
If I select a song with musicpicker and then delete this file the phone falls back to a default "bbbbrr ...bbbrrr ...bbbrrr" tone, but in the menu is the sound "World from Dr. MAD" selected.
I want to select the fallback tone, I like it
nobody? perhaps someone with a rooted phone can find the soundfile?
I attached a mic-recording of the tone.
pleeease
here you go...

many many thanks mate
Does anyone know where on the phone this ringtone is located? I've checked /system/media/audio/ringtones, alarms, notifications and ui folders but it isn't there.
Sorry for digging up the old thread.
I have a strange request...is there anyway to get the voodoo lady's voice as a notification tone? I just love hearing it...kinda weird I guess, but what can I say!? Any help or comedic replies are welcome! Thanks!

Go, HERE. Choose voice linda and effect old robot. After you demo it and make her say some nasty stuff to you click the "download voices" link and get linda for your OS version. Once installed in options choose robot effect again. Clear all text in window and type a message put cursor at beginning of text and hit play. Put cursor at beginning again next hit file/export audio file and name it what and put it where you want. Now you can copy file over to device (rootEx or adb) to system/media/audio/notifications and reboot. YAY! It might also help to open the file in an audio editor and increase the volume of the file.
Example
good day.
Thanks chopper...you be the man! At least I know I'm not the only guy that has a thing for the voodoo chick!

Came up with a couple of different types of notifications and increased the gain of the audio files. The zip (edify) below includes 4 notification files that are added to system/media/audio/notifications should you want to delete them.
2 for messaging
1 for email
1 for voice mail (preview provided)

good day.

get a 3rd party app like "zedge" and just download a ringtone version of the song... or "Ringtone Maker" from google market, that way you can make it a system file, versus loading up a 5 MegaByte when someone calls..... that will probably create lag.
I use PowerAMP to play my music, and they have a feature built-in to make a ringtone version of the current song you are playing - that's a good route too!
thanks i have downloaded ringtone maker but how do i use it? i cant find any instructions

select a song (the song you said you like) and it should bring up a graph.
Your going to select a window of when you want the song to start and finish.
E.g. Start 0:30 in... end at 0:45. It will save it in a ringtone format for you to select in Settings >>>> Sounds>>>

When you select the song, click the green arrow to the right and select edit. THEN the graph will pop up.

How do I change what is the default action for opening a file in root explorer?
I guess I can uninstall/reinstall.
Yeah that worked.
You could have also changed the default actions for whatever app you wanted to change by going into Settings -> Apps -> (The app you want to change) -> Launch By Default "Clear Defaults".
Then, the next time you open the file choose another default or don't choose a default.
