NFC Enabler - Galaxy S II Android Development

Been working most of the afternoon trying to get this working. NFC can now be enabled in settings, however there is no NFC indicator near wifi etc. as previously and it is VERY flakey. NFC tag info from market will read credit cards etc. when it feels like. Logcat also shows a lot of information and a good few errors. Obviously not as reliable as previously but its a start.
Looks like I can't post a link, someone PM me.

sorry for flaming.
i didnt know such a module exist

Made a few changes and its working really well now! Tags makes the service crash when I use a credit card (could be due to encrypted data?) but I can't test this due to credit cards being the only NFC thing I own! However NFC info from the market displays the credit card details fine. NFC can now be turned on and off fine from the wireless settings menu (would deadlock the stack previously).
Will post the zip when a mod allows

Nice, you should try finding a google wallet apk from the nexus s 2.3.7 and see if it works. What I would suggest is changing the build.prop and clearing your market data. Change the build.prop to the Nexus S so your market will think that's what your using and see if it installs. If not try downloading the apks that they've released for the nexus s on their boards, the one that's unlocked for all nexus s instead of just sprint's... I'd really like to see this working, but I fear that I can't being as I'm in s Korea with no dedicated Vpn to try and connect through.

you just need to buy an original extended battery kit from samsung with NFC like i did!

AGPS Patch - Need some testers for Official support

Well, my goal for the upcoming v2.0 of my aGPS Patch is to bring support to five more devices. This is one of the devices I selected!
I'm looking for some testers to see if the patch will effectively work.
It simply replaces gps.conf in /etc/ to be much better performing.
You can download v1.3 by clicking here.
To install, use Root Explorer or ES File Explorer to copy the new one over. Reboot. Give GPS a try! I recommend GPS Status. If your device uses ClockWork Recovery, you can simply flash the ZIP.
A reference thread can be seen at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1250226.
Also, I'd love for someone to send me the gps.conf currently on their device.
Thank you for assisting me in the determination if this version works.
Before i flashed the zip i used gps status to see how long it took to connect and it took several minutes, and then i flashed your patch and it took around 15 seconds. that's pretty neat thanks for this

Yes, it will work World wide. Any country, anywhere you have a phone working fine....
If you could test your Flyer and also that Nexus S, I'd love to bring official support to all of them.

S2 NFC

Hi there,
Got a new Galaxy S2 NFC on Orange today. With the stock ROM the NFC was working fine (showing as active etc.). I rooted and installed R3MOR3MA.V.3.5 purely because I wanted rid of the Orange branding and a little bit more control over settings etc. (Come from CM7 on a Desire). However, it seems I've lost my NFC completely. I started to look into this and it seems the main differences are the following lib files:
libnfc.so
libnfc_jni.so
There's also these lib files missing which I don't think effect the NFC.
libganril.so
libkineto.so
librilswitch.so
Beside that there appears to be a permissions file, Nfc.apk and Tag.apk missing from the custom ROM. I've tried pushing the lib, permissions and apk files to the custom rom and enabling the NFC option in setting.apk. This didn't work and resulted in a greyed out NFC option. I don't know what to try next, I won't be going back to stock firmware but having NFC back would be nice!
Any takers?

The only thing of use I could really tell you:
CSCVersion.txt -> ORAKI3
SW_Configuration.xml -> I9100PORA
It was an orange branded rom based on 2.3.5.

I'm pretty sure the nfc is on the battery pack. Can you confirm?
Hopefully it's just a case of buying an nfc battery for older devices

No, you will need a sgs2 with a nfc chip too. Battery is just for the antenna. Nfc sgs 2 are branded citizi from Orange in france, don't know if same name is used internationaly. You also need a SIM build for Nfc.

The SGS2 with NFC (Cityzi ?) just doesn't have the same software as normal SGS2. You won't be able to NFC with custom roms from this forum. Maybe you could fine some stuff on google about some custom roms for this device but I doubt there's been much developing with it.
Good luck
Thanks for the reply. Considering I have a full back up of the original rom, how difficult would it be to manually strip out all of the daft Orange apps and implement some of the changes in the custom ROM? The features such as Bravo engine, ICS transitions, CRT effect, power menu etc. all appealed to me. Without over simplifying this, couldn't I just merge the two?
Nathan
I would say quite hard. I've been looking around a bit and I couldn't find much :
Very few people have this version of the sgs2, and it looks like nobody's developing on it. What I would try to do if I was you would be to flash a Korean firmware. I read some people installing it on international and everything went fine (and it looks like the only difference between european NFC SGS2 and international SGS2 is NFC, and same for Korean/International). So maybe Korean SGS2 and your are the same, but remember you're doing it at your own risk and it might not be safe.
Let us know how it went if you try tho !

As far as the OP goes, my interpretation is that his phone turns off every time he connects his usb cable. He tried flashing a 777 rom from this forum but it did not help. He then flashed a 9100 rom which did help the original problem, but obviously caused other problems to appear because, well, it it's not a 777 rom.
But I'm half guessing here...

I actually have this issue. Plug in a charger or any usb connection and 9 times out of 10 the phone will turn off. Turn on the phone whole charging and it will randomly crash back to the charge animation - which sometimes doesn't even work correctly.
Happened when I was stock and still does stock 2.3.4 rooted.

habing this issue also, phone was working OK , then someone tried to update to 4.1.2, after the update the phone will shutdown after ou connect a cable.
I downgraded to ICS 4.0.4, but still the same issue.
and YES, when you insert an OEM battery the phone will work well.
any idea how to fix this other than buying an oem battery?

The battery doesn't necessarily have to be oem, but it must be near field communication (nfc). If I remember correctly, GT-I9100 batteries often don't work well in the I777.
Where are you located?
HI, I am from Cuba, Latinamerica.
SO, is not there any solution to make the phone work with any battery?
because it was working with any battery before they flashed ICS, so...
maybe a Kernel will solve this ?
and the i777 is NFC capable?

Perhaps try this battery. It's a 3rd party one, and while it isn't 22000mAh as advertised (more like stock 1650mAh) it is the only non-OEM battery that has worked perfectly for me. Can't speak to the NFC capabilities, as I never used it effectively with even the i777 original battery, but in terms of everyday use and stability this cheap battery has worked great for a long time.
Are you unable to order by mail into Cuba from the US?
Installing a custom kernel may solve the issue. I'm not sure. If you are now on 4.0.4, then I don't think there is a custom kernel available at this time, but I may be wrong. If you are on 4.1.2, you could install the AJK v4.9 No-Swap kernel. Be sure to use the No Swap version on stock Jelly Bean though.
I'll be gone for a few days, but if you need help, I think Steve will be around.
Cant order from Cuba, thats what emabrgo was made for
I will flash custom rom and custom kernel and will se what happens.
any suggestion?
There are plenty of Jelly Bean roms (4.1.2) to choose from for the i777. If you're wanting a stock+ experience then SHOstock is s great choice. Others like Slim, Carbon, CM are also available.
If you're on stock ICS, however, you'll need to flash the custom kernel > reboot recovery > flash rom/gapps. If you run into trouble with that method then use creepy's guide for flashing stock via Odin and you'll be fine - you can find that in his signature. Let me know if you have any questions.

[Q] Do the Roms have NFC

I know the Note can have NFC Unlocked, and I know theres a procedure for it. But i'm curious if the roms have it built in. I tried looking at some of the roms and found none of them mention the NFC.
I ask because I have an HTC One X, and I found I can't root/jb it or anything (2.20). I really want NFC/Google Wallet (also the HTC Doesn't have).

ril = radio interface layer. Its specific to each device/carrier. Without the proper ril (kernel level), no data. CM and most aosp use their own cooked up versions, which is why data is never the same on aosp builds. The source for rils is rarely released. Stock based roms will already have the proper ril files, unless its a port, but then they just patch it with the correct one. Stock rils won't work with aosp (incase you were about to ask)...

I've tried it myself and it works. RIL is Radio Interface Layer and is the communication link between ROM and radio. Like drivers for peripherals. Matching ril's can mean better signal as well as battery life. Bad ril's or ones that don't get set or initiated can prevent data.
I was told clearing cache gives the ril's time to start. They were losing data after every reboot. Liquid Smooth guys are hard at work on it. [emoji6]
