I have searched these threads for the last 2 hours and have come across many different approaches to rectifying this problem...im unfortunately lost.
I bought a new Fascinate for my son for xmas with hopes to put ICS on it for him.
I followed these instructions
galaxyforums.net/forum/fascinate-rs-guides/1967-how-root-froyo-gingerbread-your-fascinate.html
Everything seemed to go according to plan. I rebooted and it hangs on the Samsung logo infinitely...have attempted to reboot several times. Wiped data and cache and started over repeatedly. I can get back into the orange CWM voodoo lagfix recovery v3.0.2.8x.ti and navigate around, but its the only place I can get.
I apologize for my lack of understanding here, Im just a bit overwhelmed and feeling the pressure since xmas is just around the corner. If anyone can help me with this, I would be eternally grateful. I am truly at a loss right now.
Thanks,
Corey
Try using the cwr 4 for Odin. Worked for me. Try staying away from the orange 3 as I've had problems with it my self.
Edit: here's cwr 4 for Odin: http://goo.gl/7DmxF
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda premium
Step 1. (assuming you know what your doing) flash the cwr in Odin.
Step 2. Do the 3 finger recovery after it flashes. Easiest way for me is to leave battery out while it flashes then after flashing take out cord pop in the battery and go to the recovery.
Step 3. (Assuming you have the ics .zip on the SD) flash the file from cwr.
Step 4. Should boot up in about 2-5 minutes

First, thank you for the replies!
I downloaded the CWR 4 and used odin to put it on, booted into CWR just fine (blue in color) and selected the original file to use (su-2.3.6.1.x.zip) still hanging on the samsung screen for now, but its only been 2 minutes thus far. Im wondering if I messed up when I did step 8 which was the stock kernel.tar.md5 as I did not check to see if I was running froyo or Gingerbread...I assumed it was Froyo and the step was needed.
Still hanging at the screen but will give it a few more minutes.
Can I just flash with ics from here and skip this step?
Way more than I thought it was going to be for tonight as I have to be back at the hospital at 0630 in the AM with a clear mind

Just following the installation steps again fro CM7.
Hi guys,
I'm in the exact same situation here. I followed step 5 on the page that zander linked to above to root the fascinate from gingerbread but can't get past the samsung logo even after everything seemingly goes a-ok. I don't have an ics rom on the sd card and I'm assuming Corey does not either since we were following the same instructions just to root the phone before we got started with ics. I only have the su-2.3.6.1.x.zip file on my sd. I'm downloading the EH03 rom from section 3 of the guide but will this process work since I don't have ics on the sd card? Is there a way to access the sd card from my pc still? ... Don't know where to go from here. Any further help would be amazing, and thanks for the help so far
Brendan
Are you able to get into recovery? Because you can access the SD card from there, or use a card reader if you have one.
You don't need to root before flashing a rom, just follow the instructions to flash ICS: essentially you just odin EH03, odin CWM, boot into recovery, then flash the rom.
K I was successful last night flashing ICS!!!
Here's what I did Corey... don't know if it's the easiest exactly but it didn't take that long...
Follow step 4 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238070
I used the EH03 file to get a stock Gingerbread ROM.
I used Jt's ICS build, and with his you need to first flash a BML ROM before you flash the ICS, so I flashed PWBG from here
http://www.mediafire.com/?c37loxth85zn2ti and used the following directions...
http://www.galaxyforums.net/forum/s...-01-eh09-odin-2-3-4-pwgb-v2-0b3-tw-based.html
I then put the ICS ROM on the sd card while loaded up in PWGB, it's the version 3 rom from the 11/28 update found here
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/9687-rom-aosp-ics-extreme-alphalulz-v2-1118/
and used cwm4 to flash it.
Worked like a charm! It didn't take very long besides waiting for the download for the EH03 which took an hour - hour n a half. Hope this helps.
Merry Xmas Everyone
Brendan

hey guys, im trying to flash the miui 1.6.24 rom onto my 2.2 fascinate. ive tried twice now and everytime i i try and flash, it starts the download for about 5 seconds, then just keeps rebooting the phone and says cant mount and does a countdown from 20 then reboots and repeats. i have had to odin back to stock 3 times already from this. any ideas why this is not working? and how can i get it to work? Thanks in advance
Have you read how to flsh to the cm7 & miui thread. Make sure you have the correct kernal, gapps and recovery. I think that is why you maybe getting stuck. Be sure to read how to get back to other roms if you choose to go back.

no i cant find that thread. the only one i can find is the how to go from cm7 or miui to another rom. but im trying to do the opposite
it just keeps saying "waiting for SD Card to mount" and counts down. then just keeps repeating
Can anybody help me?
I came from Nameless v4.1 and have a thread in Q and A that answers this but I'll tell ya how, it's basically the same steps since I odined back to stock.
Make sure that you have Andmer's latest miui build on the root of your SD card. Then assuming you already use the latest recovery (I had time's blue recovery) , wipe the big 3 (data, cache, delvik) > install from SD card > choose the miui rom > have a little patience > profit.
For me it did the count down 4 times before it actually mounted and finished the install. I don't know if the size of the SD card effects it in any way, concidering I'm only using a 4g, but it may take awhile. Again these are the steps I took and I haven't had any problems other than the one's already stated.

Yeah when it was doing the countdown I let it go before for about a half hour and it still list kept doing it and I had to Odin back to stock again. I didn't have the rom on the root of the SD card, I had it in a folder entitled root that I put all my roms on. I don't know if that would really make a difference
To be honest I'm not entirely sure. I've always put it on the root of the sd card. I guess at this point it wouldn't hurt to try. And again I'm not sure if the size of the card comes into play considering I'm using just a 4g card and not my stock 16g. Maybe someone else with more experience and overall know how can chime in to help. Sorry if I couldn't be of any help.

Maybe a bad d/l ?
I just switched to cm7 from miui then back and had no issues
Try redownloading
Sent from my MIUI Fascinate XDA App
Yeah I'm not using the stock card either. I'm using a 2gb Samsung and a 8gb sandisk. And I don't think its a bad download cuz I've tried doing it with all 3 versions of miui and it did it to all of them and the new cm7 and the cm7/miui kernel. I could get the old cm7 but when trying to flash the new one I get the countdown
I just tried again and let it do the countdown for a half hour so it tried about 40 times to mount the card. Any other suggestions?
I'm also needing a bit of advice on how to install MIUI on my Fascinate...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1139400&highlight=AOSP+Gingerbread
Trying to install that. Downloaded the packages, but not sure what to do from there. I was going to load them into ODIN, but realized they aren't regular tar.gz packages...can I just load it with ROM Manager or what? I'm currently on 2.2.1, "Super Clean version 2.9 - EB01/EC16 Froyo leak root+Froyo Clockworkmodwith MALWARE protection".
Not to hijack, but seems we have similar questions.
You need to load in CWM, ROM manager is not compatible with the newer roms

Yeah trying to load MIUI 1.7.1 also and keep getting the error 7. Do we have to do it through odin?! cleared data, cache and dalvik, still no go. Did putting it in root make a difference? why cant it just work like the other roms lol! Sorry for taking your Thread away kendall316!
Thanks in advance if anyone figures it out! if i do, will post it.
okay, so i tried to install CM7 test build 8 onto my phone. the install got up till checking BML/MTD and then failed. i was already on test build 7.
anyhows, clockwork said the rom failed to install and then rebooted. now the phone is stuck in a loop of booting into clockwork and then aborting an install.
i would normally have just started up ODIN and flashed down to stock DJ05 or EB01 and then do the lovely root process; but alas i sent my PC into HP today for repair and stuck using a Macbook for a week or two. (no one else in my family uses PC anymore; iPad and Mac family now...sigh)
does anyone know of a way to fix this? i'd like to avoid going back to my old droid 1 (so laggy).
Dude.. this goes in either the thread for that rom or the Q&A section. You might get quicker responses when posting correctly.
Good luck.
Sry, thanks for the help though

I know it sounds odd but pull the battery and then do the three finger salute. I know we aren't supposed to but trying to wipe through there and then install has helped a couple of us with this problem on miui. I did it and when it finally installed right I rebooted into recovery the proper way and wiped. Worked like a charm.
Hope this helps, brother.

I Agree with Tim. Three finger method and reflash CM7 Build number 7 (after wiping of course) Then try build 8 again. You will lose settings and data. Hopefully you backed up beforehand but if you're stuck in a bootloop it's a moot point. Hope this helps.

have done this twice. after install number 7 restart and reboot recovery and you will see your back to the orange cwm and good to go with number 8 install. wipe delvik
Quickest way back is to use the EB01 install package that is linked in the stickied thread about returning to to a TW ROM after running. Apparently the two ROMs Linked (Eclair and Froyo) have the right bootloader to work with the PIT file. Anyway that's what it says in the thread.
Flash EB01 (with atlas PIT). Flash a 3.x CWM and then try the CM7 procedure. No need for OTA updates or voodoo and/or lag fix, root, etc. Just plain ol stock EB01. This worked for me last night. I have not used the phone a lot since then but so far its been working OK.
He can't do that without odin brother..

try using virtualbox and install xp. it'd be your best bet. not sure if you'll run into driver issues, should work fine. if you need an XP install let me know, i have an iso on my server that needs 0 activation and should get you by.
you can try a linux live cd and then heimdall
Allright, so there I was, running a rather stable Comm Rom 2.0 Voodoo Rom with the ED10 Kernel/Radio, and then I saw the thread on the OMFGB GB release, that I, of course, just HAD to have...
So, my first mistake was being impatient and not being able to find any installation notes, and pretending that I knew what I was doing by installing the rom via CWM mod.
Here's the rub, for some reason, whenever I did the 3 finger salute, it would pull a RED CWM that went orange when I applied update.zip ... because if I tried to install rom from sd card with the initial CWM boot, it wouldn't install anything, it would just error out unless I applied update.zip. After selecting apply update from zip, it would boot the orange CWM and allow me to install whatever I wanted...
So after applying the OMFGB rom, it showed the Fascinate/ Cyanogenmod 7 bootscreen, then went to boot loop. I panicked, pulled the battery, then backed up everything to my computer, and formatted the sd card in FAT32 with Windows 7 64 bit...
Shortly thereafter, I was using ODIN and the original "return to stock" files, and ended up getting into the stock OS.
Now I never show 3G or even 1x, and never pull data at all... when I go to place calls, it says that verizon cannot authenticate my phone... when I activate, it reboots and says everything was successful, but was noticeably a faster process than standard activation. Upon reboot, nothing improves... the os is there, everything shows that everything is fine, yet I am still not able to place calls...
Here is where it gets weird... My wife called me today, and the call came through... I received text messages, but still couldn't make calls... My bill is zeroed out, I'm not locked out that I know of, and I just want my phone working again...
Running out of ideas. I have flashed ED01 DL01 and even reapplied the stock .PIT in odin... I am going to try heimdall while I wait for help from here, but any quick help would be GREATLY appreciated...
I believe the issue is you need to convert your system to mtd before flashing omfgb...some one correct me if I'm wrong though as I don't want to spread false info.
but Try installing jt's 0704 cm7 build following his instructions, then install his 0713 build (possible unnecessary step but it worked for me), then flash omfgb. You will most likely have to flash jt's fixed cwm to subsequently flash his cm7 as I had to since I was coming from a stock restore. And now I'm running a blazing fast omfgb...I was able to restore all my apps and data in half the time it took on com rom...good luck let me know how it goes

Alright the issue is resolved, my main concern was whether or not I could use my phone for phone calls... after finally mustering up the guts to call Verizon, it turned out that the main problem in which I was experiencing was due to some form of typical midnight updates that big red does... apparently, my phone, missed some form of update that ended up de-authorizing my phone, but Verizon was able to help out, even at this late hour.
On the good note, everything went through just fine as far as flashing cm7... I just seem a bit conflicted with which rom is best. I guess its just a matter of personal preference, really. So far I prefer jt's rom just fine, but I might be switching back and forth between jt's and omfgb...
Thanks again for all the help folks, I appreciate it more than you could know.

yup, that was your mistake. prior to flashing omfgb, you need to be on jt's cm7.
I'm too lazy to read all the posts but try flashing cm7 via cwm4. then, Odin back to stock using the right files and configurations. there's a sticky in the development section.
Hi guys. I rarely come for help here but well...here I am.
Alright, the problem is a friend of mine did a factory reset(I think) to his while running a custom rom with lagfix. Now the phone got stuck at the vibrant logo. I got the phone, started odin, and tried to flash it back to stock(Froyo) but still have the same problem. If I'm not mistaken, He was running a gingerbread ROM. Is the problem the bootloader?
Here's the screens I'm getting:
After flashing with ODIN, notice it says "failed" on some of the lines on the recovery:

Also fails on the data wipe:

Uhh ohhh!

Tried flashing back to stock JFD (2.1)? That usually fixes anything for me... I don't think GB bootloaders would do that?

I'll release a heimdall-one click for Vibrant soon enough. This will totally reset your device. Wait until tonight, I'll likely have it online.
Perfect! thanks man!
You would think the .pit and .tar flash in ODIN would fix the problem. Of course you'd lose all memory in the phone and external SD card.
Those guys are smarter anyways
I have tmobile's vibrant t959 and I had Nero w/voodoo on there and all I did was odin back to stock because I wanted to get ICS on the phone. well I knew I had a problem before I had dropped my phone and the service cut out it doesnt do anything since then but bootloop unless I have a ROM on there then it works PERFECTLY fine, So I assume it's an internal issue? Well I had used odin to go back to stock and the terrible bootloop started again. I tried to install a new rom after i installed the update.zip file but it WILL not go into clockwork recovery. The other day when I put Nero on there I didn't need rom manager or ANYTHING it was completely stock and all I did was do update.zip through install packages and then it brought me right to the Clockwork screen. Now after I hit install packages it just reboots to the loading screen and starts up the phone..then bootloops. I'm not too sure what to do I've installed every odin 1.7 1.3 everything every single JDF and pit file I can possibly find nothing works. I can't get into clockwork even though I have superuser and all that can anyone PLEASE give me some kind of advice? I just can't figure out how i got it to work the other day.. but I know it will work. Also I did put some kind of....clockwork thing through odin? brought me to a red clockwork but when I go to install the rom it doesn't so my SD Card just my internal phone one and I even tried putting the rom on there but it doesnt show up...Mind you I can't keep the phone on for very long before it restarts...maybe if i'm lucky i can put osmething on the SD card...I also have been using my other phone to put things onthe SD card then put the SD card back into my vibrant..please someone help I want to let my boyfriend use the phone.. I'm starting to feel like I should have just left Nero on there and never tried to put ICS on there...

Try this, and please do it even if you already have.
Delete any update.zip you have on your sdcard and put this one on your internal sdcard. http://db.tt/5FWb4wT8
Odin jfd w/ repartition clicked (must be jfd, not ji4/5/6 or anything else).
No, boot into recovery, select "real install packages". And then the phone will reboot back to recovery. Select it again.
Now you *should* be able to install the rom you want, assuming you have a vibrant 3g (t959) and not a galaxy s 4g (t959v) or a t959d.
Also, what's the error number you are given when the flash fails?

I'm just a little nervous because whenever i odin back to stock without doing it the other way I get the bootloop from hell. hopefully it doesn't happen.... The error that appears is error in sd/romname installation aborted. that's all it says.
Alright well I did odin, the same way I always do it. This time without the tar.md5 file just the regular JFD. This is such a pain in the butt with no service connection...even through wifi I cannot use the market so anything i need i have to download the APK until I get this rom working. -.- OH BAM! ur update.zip worked! butttt roms still are aborted and i'm back into a bootloop.
wait a minute...can I not go directly to ICS or any other rom if i'm coming from stock?...I barely remember not being able to do that....okay so i tried putting cm7 on there and same thing... installing:sdcard:update-cm-7ect.zip finding update package opening update package installing update checking state of BMLMTD assert failed:run_program("/tmp/updater.sh") == 0 e?:error in sdcard/update-cm-7.1.01-vibrant-sig-ned. (1).zip status 7 installation aborted.......wtf D: i am about to give up... i dont know how I had nero w/voodoo on here... i know i odin back to stock then through clockwork installed the zip.. i tried to get nero back but the website is gone and no other downloads for nero are anywhere...
