Going to buy Xperia ray... - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Sorry for posting here, but I couldn't see a general forum for the ray, and I would like to ask a couple of questions that I can't solve by watching YouTube.
1- how many multitouch points are supported? Does it have a bug where points are inverses?
2- does camera support 1080p or just 720p?
3- what is gaming like? Does the snapdragon feel responsive? Is it good enough to play gameloft games with no or very little lag?
I know the screen is small, but I can't bear any more than 3.7 inches (my brothers defy)
4- how many ppi by default in the screen? Is it nice to look at and clear quality?
5- last thing: is this better than a defy or defy+? They both cost 120€ here with a standard 20€ a month contract.
Thanks guys, I am really looking forward to getting this phone!
Sent from my LG-P500 using Tapatalk

1. I have no idea
2. only 720p
3. Ray is a smaller version of Arc, so gaming is good. Ray has the same cpu/gpu as the mini/mini pro, active, live with walkman. they all support hvga games.
4. 297 ppi for full specs and review http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_xperia_ray-3972.php
5. hardware wise its better than defy. go to www.gsmarena.com for specs comparison
for video review http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSG0sj1Sy5w
i hope it helps.
OT: you might want to consider SE Live with Walkman (up to $100 cheaper)

upto 4 touch points

I can't get the live here in France, and the ray is getting ice before the live... and the ray has a better screen thanks

[Q] Sony XPERIA X10 vs. HTC Google Nexus One

I've search on forums and Google but no real opinions to help me choose between the two. They're both going for about the same price.
Question: Which one do you prefer and why?
Sony XPERIA X10
+ 8MP Camera
+ 4" Screen
+ 1GB Storage
+ Battery Life
- WiFi b/g
- TFT capacitive touchscreen, 65K colors
- Wider and thicker
- 384 RAM
HTC Google Nexus One
+ WiFi a/b/g
+ AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors
+ Slimmer and thinner
+ 512 RAM
- 5MP Camera
- 3.7" Screen
- 512MB Storage
- Battery Life
I prefer the X10, love it's style and I'm a se fanboy and the Nexus One is the ugliest phone/one of the ugliest phones out there.
Better a phone, that it a bit slower but looks much, much better.

I bought the nexus when from google when it was released. It isnt a bad phone at all. But i then traded for the X10 and seriously never looked back or regreted it once. I never said to myself, gee i wish i still had the nexus one.
X10 much better than nexus one
Just my opinion.
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
Nexus One !
I have used both of them,as i have X10 and my younger brother has nexus one,and both me and my brother are of the same opinion that X10 is better then nexus one in every aspect, you have already mentioned some of those things, the only benefit that nexus one has(it is running on Gingerbread) is not going to be with nexus one anymore,as in maximum two months X10 will be updated to Gingerbread, and it would not be that ugly and stock interface which is due to come to X10,it will be the same one as ARC,which i dont think i have to tell you that how beautiful and good looking it is,but if u havent seen it yet, then take a look here:

Xperia X10
Yes, I used to envy the nexus, only because of the constant updates it would receive. But now that the X10 will soon be running 2.3.3, it has a fighting chance. And yes, the nexus is one ugly mother.
Great feedback everybody! Thank you very much! =)
its a no-brainer that x10 is the winner isnt it?

Next Phone?

Ok, every gets to this now or later, the problem that is getting a new phone.
http://www.sfr.fr/mobile/offre-tele...38q2&pta=0037x2&typesmartphone=se-android&p=0
This is a filtered search of the phones i can get, these are the prices with a contract. My only criteria are: 1GHZ ArmV7 and a WVGA screen. And a not much about ICS (It would be nice) Im getting this in january so I may be able to build up up-to about 200 euros.
Two that look nice are the motorola defy (nice big screen, impress my mates)
or the Xperia ray which is ridiculously cheap for what it is. Im drooling over it knowing i could play all the games i never could, and it is getting ICS and will support chainfire. The downside is the fact the screen is only 3.3 inches, but it means it will have about 300 dpi !!
Thanks for any suggestions
At the moment I would go for the Defy, since from what i saw in it's forum has more roms. This my change however, more people will probably end up buying the ray since it will get ICS and it's cheap, increasing the number of roms. But,like i've said,it's not a sure thing. In the end,you should buy what you like more.
You could buy a Nexus S,240€ in italy or a Galaxy S,(around 220€). Both have ARMv7 processor,HDPI screen, but personally I prefer Nexus S (for NFC,official updates and frontal camera).
well, I would choose one of them - HTC Desire HD or SonyEricsson Xperia Neo.
SE - better camera, frontal camera, better battery.
HTC - a bit better performance, aluminium unibody, Sense UI.

Btw, get the Xperia ray, since it gets ICS later on.

[Q] S3 vs S4 processor

I am wondering, is the Xperia S really worth it with an S3 processor? I mean there will be more flagships later on in the year with S4. But what is so much better about this new processor and should I wait for phones with it or get the Xperia S?
Cheers

I saw those, but am not looking at comparing with other phones, just want to know about the processor in general, will it be outdated soon?

Yes. That is the nature of technology. The S4 will be outdated soon. As I always say, if you wait for 'the best' phone, you will wait forever.
If you used search, you would also see there's a thread about the S4 Hayabusa.
I can't be bothered to link the thread because I'm not google, but it's only rumors at the moment.
Of course better phones will be made later on in the year...that's how it always is. Like how it always is, if you keep waiting for phones you will never get one, because something better will be down the road...A phone is outdated within like...less than 4 months now with tech advances?
The S does it for me, if you want a comparison between the S3 and the S4, you can find it online.
Asking if the Xperia S is worth it, in the S thread isn't the best idea because well...we are all proud owners of the phone. I love the S, to me it's the phone to watch for this year, especially when ICS rolls out.
I agree that you end up waiting forever to keep up with tech, but I just feel like the S2 is a year old and had the same tech and the Xperia S. Sure you can never keep up with how technology moves but at least if the manufactures were releasing up to date hardware it would last that bit longer.
As for asking within the XS thread, I'd hope even if you love the phone you could still give some objective advice...
The extra speed is the main benefit of course, as every1 uses their smart phone slightly different no1 can really answer that for you, so what benefits do you think you will get waiting for the S4 processor?
The XPS S3 is plenty fast enough in my opinion, the phone plays smooth 1080p video in the browser... thats fast and not many phones/tablets can do that. The S4 will have the same ability so zero benefit there.
All games run smooth and will for yrs to come with the XPS same as when the S4 comes out so zero benefit there.
The XPS has a super fast high quality camera, the next phones might come out with a sub par camera so u might loose more benefit there and will have waited for nothing.
XPS is a great media player in general probably the same as the S4 when it comes so zero benefit again there.
Technical details you can find via the wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snapdragon_(system_on_chip)
If you want S4 right now tho it's in the HTC One S.
-smc
---------- Post added at 10:27 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:24 AM ----------
No such thing as an outdated processor these days on any platform as 99% of software and games will be coded for the majority of all phones.
-smc
Yea, I believe you would have to fight to see the difference between the two...things even ran decently smooth on my X10 to be honest, and that was only an S1 .
Currently my S doesn't lag at all, its actually butter smooth, and I don't get any skipping or any kind of app lag. I guess it comes down to how you use the phone, and well...if you are a spec junkie. If you want an S4 right now, you have to get the One S (as SMC said), which isn't much of an upgrade (besides S4 and ICS, there's no plus) and at least in my opinion a huge downgrade in aesthetics and the camera.
I really think the difference between the S3 and S4 won't be visible...unless you are a spec-junkie and want to get top benchmarks at all times (which may be the only time you will see a difference, i think). I honestly don't think it will bring more (noticeably) to the table than you already get with S3.
Keeping it neutral enough?
I think S5 will be faster than S4.
I've benchmarked my XPS vs. one of my friends' One S. The difference in the benchmarks is noticeable, but I felt like everything on the XPS was smoother in general. It might be Sense 4 though. But again, and the camera on the One S is laaaaame, and the screen is not that great.

But not as fast as the M3.
Wait, cars or phones?
Okay I think I will keep it
See I won the Xperia S in the twitter competition and contemplating keeping my arc and selling it and waiting for the Hayabusa, but after seeing how much ebay steals off the final selling price. I never thought I would be using my arc as a back up phone less then a year after getting it (I normally upgrade every 2-3 years)

S5 will be twice as fast but if you hold it wrong its slower.
S3 is 40 nm and S4 is 28 nm. It's faster, cooler and more power efficient. But it's not worth another 100 € (One S).

Ok.... xperia s vs one s vs one x (s3/s4/tegra 3). I did that too, still I bought the Xperia S? Why?
One S / One X - faster CPU. XPS fast enough for a phone.
XPS / One S - Size is good, One X - too big
One S - qHD pentile display. XPS / One X great 720p displays
One S 16GB (too little for me). One X / XPS 32GB (enough)
Camera is good in all 3, altough XPS is probably best quality pics + dedicated camera button. OneS/X have nicer software interface
ICS All 3 will have it in a few weeks. No real issue to wait a little bit for it.
All of these phones have there stronger and weaker point. In the end you have to decide what you find most important. The CPU is only just one thing, for me definately not the most important. Granted you need a certain baseline speed for a phone to have it operate smoothly. But the S3 in the XPS has plenty of speed. Heck even the 1GHz single core S2 in the Desire HD still performs pretty nice on the resolution that phone has. S3 is the xps is a lot faster than that. It will serve me just fine the coming period.
I wanted to buy a phone that was in the 4" - 4.3" inch range, with a good 720p display, 32GB (or microsd slot), a decent camera and fast enough to operate smoothly. XPS suits that best, I also really like the design of it.

Please help me choose in these phones.
Xperia S
Xperia SL
Xperia Acro S
Xperia Ion
Xperia TX
As we know almost they are the same but the still having problems in choosing what phone to get.
Here are my questions. sorry they are too many hope you can help me...
1) is the new TX worth it since it can go head to head with quad core? quad core can this be utilized by such apps?
2) no gorilla glass is this a major turn off?
3) storage options. some with sd. xperia s has 32gb not expandable is this enough?
4) some has no 4g support? is it ok? do i need it so badly?
5) difference in camera and video
6) battery compared to other flagship
7) last sony smart phones compared to other flagship phones. a up or a down?

Xperias are cute phones, indeed, but buying xperia phones you lose in android updates. Sony promised 18 months updates and my phone (Xperia Pro) only got actualizations until nine month from released date. And even that last update (4.0.4) has some bugs and never had any answer about them at sony's forums. They only say "thank you for your concern".

1) The XTX Krait beats the **** out of the Tegra 3. Not the S4 Pro, but the Tregra 3 yes.
2) Not a major, but if you are really disastrous or like to throw your phone on the floor or concrete all the time,
3) I have a Xperia S. 32 Gb is enough for me.
4) Does your city have it? If yes, then go for it, if not, then no need to.
5) The Xperia phones have a rather low quality on low light, but it is awesome on any other situation.
6) Battery itself is smaller, but my XS can last a day.
7) It wins some points, lose anothers.
I'd go for TX. it's the latest Xperia, and it is really good. But if you can wait more, get the Xperia Yuga (codenamed yet) next year:
*5" FULL HD , WHITE MAGIC SCREEN with SENSOR ON LENS & BRAVIA ENGINE 2
*13MP EXMOR RS SENSOR with CYBER SHOT MODE & HDR VIDEO ( MAY EXTEND TO 16MP )
*FULL GLASS MADE with ALUMINIUM BITS , 8mm THICKNES & WATER-DUST PROOFING
*32GB ON BOARD STORAGE & EXPANDABLE MEMORY
*4G LTE COMPATIBLE
* 2GB RAM & QUAD CORE PROCESSOR SNAPDRAGON APQ8064 1.5 GHZ
*CLEAR AUDIO PLUS , CLEAR BASS , XLLOUD & WALKMAN
*2400 MAH BATTERY (WHICH MAY EXTEND TILL 3000 - FINAL PRODUCT )
1) is the new TX worth it since it can go head to head with quad core? quad core can this be utilized by such apps?
I honestly don't know what you could do with a phone that needs quad-core. Even 'highend' games run fine on my xs but maybe I'm missing something.
2) Never managed to scratch a Xperia, but I usually don't throw my phones around. Just remember that all Xperias come with an easily scrarchable preapplied screen protector that can be pulled off.
3) I still have around half of my 32gb free even though I have around 8gb of music on my phone. It depends on what you want to put on the phone.
4) my city has no 4g. Depends on where you live and if your contract includes it.
5) camera of the Xperias are amazing, but I think the ion has the best camera and screen.
6) the s3 I use for work.hardly lasts a day, and I'm not even gaming with it. Xs with the same use lasts 3 days. Might be because of the dual-core.
7) t is the latest flagship, the processor is Not as good as Samsung or HTC but the screen and design are way better.

Buying sola

Hi all, I may buy the Xperia sola soon because it's very cheap bnib, 180€.
There are a few things I'd like to know before buying it, though..
1) Build quality
2) Out-of-the-box issues (had problems with the HTC One X.. ugh)
3) Screen quality
4) Camera quality (some examples would be nice)
5) Performance
6) Rootability
7) Add your own comment about the phone usage in everyday life (signal etc.)
Thanks!

I have purchased this mobile 3 months ago and am quite satisfied with this..........
The over all build quality is great..... No problem yet with my piece........
Screen quality is also good enough for video playback and games, 720p videos plays very smooth........... One problem is that even if you turn off floating touch in settings you would even get some float touch response in games like temple run and xtreme trail....
Camera quality is also great with flash........
Overall performance is also good.....
In my opinion sound is bit low when on speakers..........
Easily rootable and bootloader can be unlocked easily using official method........
It gives me continuous video play back of around 4 hours approx..........
Many custom roms available..........

I guess you should buy an Xperia U.
I have had this phone for 2 months now and I am much more than satisfied.
The build quality is good enough for a bit of rough use and it has a good grip too. For custom roms, Xda is flowing. There is a rom which is only 76 mb and is running ICS.
Performance is spectacular because of the dual core processor. There is even a rom which over clocks this beast to 1.15 Ghz. Screen quality is good as it has high ppi. Camera quality is good, but I am disappointed by the fact that it collects a lot of noise at night. But I am still on GB. Who knows what surprises await for me in ICS? How is that for personal experience? Did I jump off the page? Did I dazzle you?
You decide. I suggest the Xperia U. Read around the forums, search Google, its an endless world. I did my part. Now, its up to you to decide. It was very long... Sorry to bore you (if you are). The keyboard is soo good that I can't stop myself. I suggest you buy the Xperia P if you are willing to spend more...

Echoing all the naysayers. Don't get it. Horrible builds. Needs to be constantly reset in order to free up the ram. Issues with touch screens on charging.
etc etc etc.
Maybe I should just upgrade mine to CM9. It seems to be faster.
But stock rom, and those roms based on stock... Horrible. Just Horrible. Not the developers fault, but more of Sony for the poor build.

Its hard to hear that sola supports end with ICS, coz Official roms makes you feel more stable,, but come on guys, we always try and stick with modified one, so if you want a phone for infinite updates, go and buy an expensive phone with more futures and support, otherwise, howcome you buy sola in first place?

The problem with this phone is that it can't even do it's job as a phone properly =\
Check the general section. Lots of us have problems when calls arrive: It takes 10 seconds to switch to the caller screen to accept the call.
I've had some expectations for this phone. It's not a top tier phone, but this is quite disappointing. Looking to trade this in once my contract allows me to do so.
You can check out the general section of the forums. Lots of flame wars there regarding this phone (And Sony's phones in general). Yes, some people will love it to bits, no matter what, but I just can't when my previous phone with a quarter of the processing power was smoother and faster.
