Where is Wi-Fi Direct in CM7 ROMs? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been searching all over internet for a simple answer to a simple question but I'm going insane. Is Wi-Fi Direct a dead functionality or it's just been removed from cyanogen roms? It seems that everyone has that functionality except AOSP-ROMs. Somebody give me an answer here.
Or is it forbidden to talk about it. Cause I don't see anybody asking this question?!!

Stick to samsung roms if you want all the features, im sure it has something to do with proprietary drivers needed for it to work and the cm team simply can't get sources for them.

good ! very useful

SGS2 roms

I know I will almost indefinitely be flamed for asking this, but oh well here goes.
When I first got my AT&T SGS2, I installed an international rom (villain) It ran perfectly fine other than the fact calls were not operating properly. I immediately jumped ship though scared for my phone's life. I reflashed stock and AT&T modem, but now that I think back on it- wouldn't having flashed the at&t modem remedied that problem? and if truly need be couldn't an at&t version kernel be flashed( i.e. Entropy's DD) Everything seemed to operate perfectly fine (install went well, booted properly, smooth homescreen, apps running great)
In theory, replacing kernel/modem (and making sure the ROM doesn't include a bootloader) should work - however this is untested.
I'm going to be trying it tonight with SensatioN, as I did like that ROM when "hellraised" on Infuse and someone requested it, and it's about time someone tries to do a "hellraise" on an I9100 ROM.

you're correct bro. ports from i9100 roms are very possible. the one thing you will need to do is change some of the lib and bin files to rid the issues with the mic on in calls. i think ive successfully ported just about most of the i9100 dev section so far. lol. for personal use only. if you need some help just let me know.

Ha! Completely understandable. Thank you so much though, this proof-of-concept is wonderful news. It would be most beneficial to see some ports of well-supported GT-I9100 roms such as villain and DLEV rom etc.
Looks like there might be some known issues with my PoC port then... as I said, I haven't tested outgoing audio much (this is much harder for me to test than dialing voicemail...)

Which files are those? I tried to find the relevant CM7 commit (since they had mic issues in calls) but couldn't find it.
I know that turning Samsung Noise Reduction off (or on? It's freaking unclear whether "on" is the current state or destination state in the menus) seems to work around the problem on a per-call basis.

[Q] Developing for SGH-i717

Hello, I currently own an SGH-i717 and would like to start rom developing for it and would like to know where to start. If I was a complete noob and compared to most of the people here I might be, how would I download 4.0.3 source code, use adb with my phone and etc etc. I find it all very interesting but I have no idea where to start.
I am asking for help with this specific device, then maybe onto porting for other devices but this model has a very sore lack of developers for it and since I own an ATT Note I would like to start the development for it regarding ICS and etc. Also why is there a lack of developers for this model's roms?
Thanks for any and all help regarding this issue and I am excited to get started developing for you guys!
I think you need something called android sdk

So what do I win if I vote in the poll?

If that was the case, then why aren't there ice cream sandwich roms for att note?
and also, what do I search for? I'm very busy so I don't have time to mess with google all day. I need someone who is willing to work with me on educating a new developer, that maybe in turn had someone to learn from before them that appreciates a new (quality)developer.
To keep things simple here... Please refrain from jerky comments as I am trying to maintain progression in this area and again I am a very busy person so I would appreciate it if we kept this thread professional.
Thanks again for any help you care to give! I apologize for being a beginner, but everyone has to start somewhere... right?

I already have the Android SDK, but I'm not sure how to use it for developing. I tried once and ended up frustrated with it. Are there easy to understand tutorials somewhere around here that might help a beginner?
I've managed to unbrick my captivate using ADB once but it was very foreign to me and I was kinda impressed I even pulled off sending it into download mode. Thanks for helping!

It's good to see someone with a lot of drive to develop, but the biggest hurdle isn't building AOSP from source. You need to get a working kernel that is compatible with ICS and all the Notes hardware. You can't google search how to do that. In reality it's almost impossible to do if you don't have extensive experience with that sort of thing.
We need the source code from Samsung for the Note and as far as I know, there is no source code out yet for the Note (for any version of Android). The roms you are seeing right now (two that Im aware of) are basically rigged versions of the stock rom where things have been removed (bloatware) and a few things have been added that conveniently worked out of the box without messing with code.
The real work will come when we have some source code to work with.
Ok, what's next?

Okay well that's a start... does anyone know where I can find a stock version of ICS to study it's code and experiment? I found source codes for SGH-i717 here
opensource(dot)samsung(dot)com
(I need more posts to make that a link, lol)
I searched for i717 and it came up with four source results on samsung's opensource search bar but I don't know what the four results are for and what the difference between them all are(unless it means it is for att or tmobile or etc, etc.), if you can tell me any info on these then I would be greatly appreciative.
Yeah, I have no clue how to do most things with coding for android but I do understand how to flash correctly, root and all that jazz. I just lack the programming skills and work flow it takes to make all this. I am downloading java for dummies and learning how to use XML files, but I am wondering if there is something else I should study too?
It sucks that I came here starting from scratch basically but I have learned a lot from here in a short amount of time, I appreciate all of the developers who have made the roms I love along the way, I am just growing impatient with the far and few between updates for your devices and I want to see updates for our devices come faster and the only way to do that is to do something about it. So I am very grateful for any help I get regarding this.
Where can I start with the kernel search? Is that what everyone is waiting on to start developing ICS for this phone? Does anyone know if one exists?
Another Question
What's the difference between a kernel and a rom? Basically.. what the heck is it in lamen's terms?

Webos supports skype very nicely if this is all you use the touchpad for.
I have ICS on mine as well and most of the time I use webOs seems to support almost every site i go to. I have only found a few site it wont work on,Netflix windows live, Hulu.
I use ICS for netflix dont use Hulu and for windows live i just use the webOs email client and hotmail or windows live works fine.
The only thing I am trying to find is a book reader that views text files and has a bookmark or save page function in it , Ics has kemsoft and works but many times bookmark wont work .

Still no.
[5 minutes later]... Still no.
Camera is most likely not going to be working for a very long time, despite HP releasing the source for the hardware (or are they still delaying it) and its the last on the priorities list for any developer. I suggest use WebOS for skype cuz that works brilliantly

This is not the place to pose this question. The place to ask would be Rootzwiki, where the dev's can be found. There you'll find changelogs and sourcecode for just about everything, and you can certainly make changes and compile it yourself.
If you honestly and seriously know what you're talking about, and think you can help, the dev team would probably be very appreciative of assistance. Meaning, if you can code that stuff, great- lend a hand. But if you're just curious, then try to research your question without nagging the devs. They work hard, and for free. You could begin researching the topic, here.
Now, in answer to your question. I could be wrong. I'm just a simple Java/C# coder who can also do a bit of web. But it was my understanding that the driver is the issue. The source code for the kernel has been released, but (also as I understood it, I could be wrong) the entire kernel was not released. The drivers for mic and cam, however, were not released (again, if I understood correctly). So there's the problem. And further, the cam and mic are not at the top of the devs' list of priorities. They are working on other stuff that they feel is more important, about which I tend to agree, unknowingly. I mean, they recently (in the last 4-6 weeks) got us hardware acceleration working (in several applications, but not all). What I mean to say, is that there are bigger fires to be put out that users don't typically see as fires. But also, the cam and mic drivers not being released is a pretty big chunk of code. AFAIK they were going to have to begin to write these from scratch, which is a pretty hefty challenge that they've chosen not to undertake at this point. That's their prerogative, and I'm not going to nit-pick about that.
Basically, if you need cam and mic, you can install CM7 (which has bugs of its own) or you can boot into webOS. Those are our options at the moment.

Personally, I know I can't code worth a damn, so I just accept what other people write.

This article is on the homepage, It's interesting to see what there going to be able to do. A lot of phones get a lot faster when rooted and running a lite rom and optimised kernel so I don't see it as a huge jump but it's interesting nether the less.

I don't know it's directly specific to the GS3 and it's not really a direct question about it either so I don't think so, but you never know.
Maybe it should be moved to general

I will edit my original post here cause I was a bit of an A-hole. this was you first post and I didn't want your first impression to be as nobody here wants to help. of course if you had already read the previous, than I am too late and can only apologize.
a few spoken rules in one of the threads for newbies here.
1. run a search, maybe the question has already been asked before
2. read, read, read
3. help yourself first, as nobody is going to do the work for you.
there are thousands of people that are more than willing to help here, but you should be mindful of repeating questions as some folks can get irritated. it is usually someone that asks a specific question about an issue that was just addressed 2 post up or on the previous page.
making a personal request for an immediate feature that may have just been announce can also annoy some developers. some to the point where they have stopped developing.
good luck and remember to read

I have tried looking all over the place for info on a 4.4 rom and if people are working on one for the i717. So far I can't find anything. I was just wondering if anyone knew if the phone would be getting a ROM or left behind.
Our latest official release was 4.1.2.
As you can see, we now have ROMs on 4.2.2, 4.3 and 4.3.1. I have not seen any devs "promise" a 4.4 rom, and I don't expect them to.
But, the 4.4 source just dropped few days ago, and I am pretty sure that they are looking at it, at the very least. If history is any indication, I would say we are going to get 4.4 roms eventually. Developing a rom is hard work, so please just wait.
Asking for an ETA might be irritating for devs, if you are not contributing to the development. And if you are contributing to the development, you should already know the answer to the question.

He posted the preview in General. I haven't been able to flash it personally because I use TWRP (and only CWM works at this point) but you're welcome to check it out. Flashed CWM Recover to try. P3 ran well, although obviously a bit buggy. P4 is out now with less bugs--both ran smoothly...well enough that I'm happy using it as a daily driver.

Yes, relative to ASOP/CM, the ones that I am aware of: JamieD81 is already working a version of CM11 plus his stand-alone Uber kernel and I believe that you will see Liquidsmooth (Patch_Adams) and Hellybean (ThdDude) come up with their versions. If you have not yet tried them, they all have excellent 4.3.1 kernel & Jellybean builds.
