Asus Transformer Prime($499) vs HP Touchpad ($99) *Video* - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

This is a normal usage test I was doing on both the tablets I got for early xmas gifts
Since I don't need two, I was trying to decide which one to keep.
Notes:
Transformer Prime is running on normal mode, full brightness (super ips mode off).
Both tablets are running the same version of GO Launcher EX and the same live wallpaper.
The Prime shipped with non-working GPS, a piece of dust inside the screen right above the docking port. It also has screen bleed that is very noticeable during boot screen and is some-what noticeable during normal use (its right above dock port on the status bar.).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
HP Touchpad is running full brightness.
The Touchpad has very minor screen bleed which is barley noticeable during boot screen and not noticeable at all during use.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I recorded my experience on video.

Good show. Looks like $99 was a better deal so far... I'm sure once seven get their hands on the prime, she will sing. But HP isn't doing too bad for non native android running on it...

think long term potential on the prime v. the touchpad especially when ICS and custom roms come out for the Prime..the Beast will be unleashed (quadcore to its full potential)

Good luck finding a touchpad for 99 dollars :/

That's the thing, the price comparison is rather disingenuous. If you managed to get one for that, it was an amazing deal and it'll be a long time before anything will beat it on value. But you can't go out to a store now and buy one, and that was never the intended price - a deal like that isn't likely to be coming around again any time soon.
It looks pretty competitive with the Prime on those tasks you showed, although there has to be some advantage running CM7 compared to the Prime's almost brand-new Honeycomb firmware; we'll have to see how the Prime develops with ICS and, hopefully, custom ROMs, as it surely has more power under the hood if it can bring that to bear.
Specific issues aside, I think a lot of the disappointment around this tablet is coming from those who already have a decent dual-core tablet (especially if it was bought at an unbelievably good price..!) and were expecting the Prime to be dramatically faster out of the box. It remains to be seen whether quad-core tablets will "age" slower than dual-core ones, as I've experienced on the desktop, but I consider the quad-core an investment in the future more than anything else. Quad-core SoCs will surely start to take over at the high-end in time, and then more optimisations will be made for them when they do. I wouldn't upgrade from this year's dual-cores to Tegra 3, though - those devices are still decent, and if you already have a good tablet it makes more sense to hang on to that at the moment and see what comes around next year.

Apples to Oranges. You're comparing an overclocked custom kernel, on a custom ROM (CM7...that is unmatched in speed by any and all stock ROMs out there), on a tablet bought at fire-sale prices...to the Prime purchased at full retail price, running a stock kernel/ROM, running an aftermarket launcher that's slower than pond water on the Prime (stock HC is light-years faster) and say the Prime doesn't measure up.
There is a serious issues of validity in your "experiment".
Edit: please don't try to take this as me blindingly defending the Prime. I'm just trying to keep invalid misinformation to be taken as "word of god" as it often happens on the internet.

seriously man, at this point im getting really sick of you, every thread you go in all you talk about is your damn touchpad and how crappy the prime is, if thats the case fine, sell the prime and keep your touchpad...but leave these forums and go troll in the touchpad one

selling it. dont become negative this is just my conclusion after testing each side by side. the primes price makes it not worth it to me considering the HP Touchpad does everything I would use the prime for but better and it was $300 cheaper.

Just sell it and go to the Touchpad forums?

Look, I've got issues with my prime too. But we all know this comparison is a little bit sneaky. It's like taking an underpowered econo car that the dealership is trying to get rid of and throwing twin turbos on it - yup, it'll probably beat some high-powered coupes off the show room floor, and most of us might be happy with that. But deep down inside you know it's a pretty stupid comparison.
Just give the prime some time.

lol at this!
come on this is a blatant touchpad fan boy post.
having a CM7 custom ROM vs stock first revision of ROM on a tablet that's been out since last week.

lmao, so many people get butt hurt over it... (calm down, its just a side by side comparison of the two devices I have)
The bottom line is that the prime has 5 cores, the touchpad has 2 cores but according to setcpu its only using 1 of its cores.
And also the prime seems to be shipping with many nasty defects (for $499 you wouldn't expect that) where the touchpad didnt have any (except for a tiny amount of light bleed).
I decided to keep both devices. Touchpad for development and the prime for gaming (although right now it cannot play too many games, but im sure it will change in the future.).

How do you know the Touchpad had very little issues? you bought it at $99, way late in the game. Ask the people who paid $499 for the 32GB when it first came out. Most of the original issues have been resolved over time. Search the web and see, the touchpad had many issues in its infancy. The Prime is in it's infancy but will grow up to be a great BIG BOY!

My Touchpad has many issues in both webOS and CM7.. CM7 alpha 3.5 was working fine but now it stutters and force closes a lot.. for the webOS.. the damn thing just keeps disconnecting from the my router at random times and the only way for me to get it working again is to reboot the Touchpad.. I got it for my son to play with but he's gotten frustrated with it and steals my Transformer to play with.
There are some issues and quirks I can live with. My son can do so as well. The Touchpad has issues that gets him too frustrated though and he's usually one to tell me anything can be fixed

@OP how come my stock browser on prime is running fluid with just a settings mod and your touchcrap needs CM 7 with overclocked processor to achieve the same.

people are not but hurt you infantile.
your showing a highly custom ROM well into the devices launch when they had time to work on it verses a brand new tablet which has had zero time for devs to work on it.

Just sell your TP and then go with your touchpad....It's that plain and simple! Have a nice day and please stay out of the TP section

good points. plus I stopped watching his video after the opera mobile comparison. I counted down how long it took for each to first show something on page and then finish completely loading the page. his touchpad clearly showed it was the loser in that comparison. took almost double the time of prime to fully load that web page on his touchpad. prime was also faster on showing something from page on screen first. same with his Netflix comparison. I loved how he gave his touchpad a few seconds to load and start scrolling vs. the prime which he started scrolling immediately..lol. touchpad failed in that comparison also. even with him giving the touchpad a lil more time to load, prime still showed more on screen first and loaded movies up faster. the touchpad had a bunch of gray squares when first loaded and took longer to fully load all the movies on-screen. as far as his UI scrolling goes, looks to me that prime performed just fine. there where even instances on his touchoad where his taps or scrolls didn't immediately register and looked laggy. touchpad for 99 is a great deal, hands down. but its in no way competition to the prime, on any front.

annoying thread
Prime touchpad blah blah blah... As far I can use the touchpad for all my task I want from a tablet and smooth. Who care about 5 core. I bet the ipad is best, because of the more than 10 cores lol.

all this is too funny. I will admit for only 99 that touchoad is a good device, it looks like. the comparisons to Prime though falls very short for several reasons.

[Q] Anyone go from Xoom to Prime?

I've got a Xoom. It's cool but it kind of bogs down sometimes with live wallpapers and other stuff open. Did anyone go from the Xoom to the Prime? Is it worth the money for the performance?

I didn't go directly from a Xoom to the Prime, but I owned a Xoom. I would definitely say the Prime is worth the cash. The developer support isn't there yet, but it's coming, and this tablet is a beast. (That is if you can find one you can tolerate)

I don't have any issues with mine. I traded for my initial Prime here in the for sale section with Killster. He'd already opened and verified that it had a serial and was upgraded to ICS. A little bleed in one of the corners, but it is barely noticeable.
My second is coming from the for sale section here as well. I've been guaranteed that it is issue free as well.
I came from the Xoom and the Prime is much better. One of the first things I did was try out the galaxy live wallpaper that I really like but couldn't use on my Xoom because of the lag it caused. The Prime is running with that wallpaper with no lag at all. Totally smooth. I had to return my first Prime because the wifi started loosing signal range after a week all of a sudden. My 2nd prime has been perfect so far. I really like the tablet and the dock makes it even better. Highly recommend the upgrade.
Considering xoom is only dual core then ya it will be better. I have an Acer dual core tablet and it will lag with most live wallpaper and using HDMI to TV. Some games are not as smooth either when panning like shadowgun or mc3.

Yeah, I'm sure it's faster, but I wanted to get an idea how much faster. After I sell my Xoom on eBay and buy a new Prime, I'll probably be out $150-$200, so I wanted to make sure that there would be at least some pretty significant performance increases.
Is there anything coming in the next few months that will out perform the Prime? I thought I read that there is a new Prime coming out with a plastic back or something for better wifi connectivity. And I'm definitely not interested in the iPad.
I'm coming from the xoom & now i have the prime & the keyboard dock but i will be getting the TF700 when it comes out.The Prime is way better than the Xoom.

If you keep it honeycomb then for general use like web surfing you probably wont be able to tell the difference as there is still some lag with stock browser. Where you see the difference is in screen swiping and app drawer. Prime is pretty much lagfree 99% of the time. Also when hooking it up to TV via HDMI the Prime doesn't stutter or lag at all regardless what app or screen your in. And if you upgrade Prime to ICS then this is where you will see a huge difference even in browsing as there is barely any stuttering or lag. It's worth the $150 extra you have to pay to get it IMO.
Now if you want to wait for the next asus 700t then you will need to fork up another $100 so you will be down $250. From what I read the 700t is going to be retail at $599 for the 32gb. Not official yet though. AND you have to play the waiting game till they officially release the product to market. By then probably a few more months another device will come out by another manufacturer. So you can wait for that again.

I still have the Xoom for development and have a UK prime with the keyboard dock.
The Prime is running ICS and Xoom 3.2, so not a direct comparison, and I leave the Prime docked all the time, as it's nice to have a full screen when typing and it gives you amazing battery life.
Prime has better screen; tablet is lighter (but heavier docked); faster, especially when in browser. I had the free Bluetooth keyboard and mouse for Xoom, but never really used them, as it was too awkward to carry, but the Prime is like a Mac Air with touch. But be warned, you'll start touching your laptop screen after using the Prime docked for a while
Only thing that is a pain is no use of the ubiquitous micro USB, so no spare leads...
So yes, get it if you can afford it, but get the keyboard dock
sorry to reopen this thread.
Got my prime, but have to return it today because of ligth bleed, and poor gps/wifi. Its in Denmark and the serial starts with C.. so we also have bad primes.
Anyways, the Xoom 32 Wifi Only is almost ½ the price atm, so im really considering it.
How good has the Xoom become with ICS compared to the Prime with ICS?

No matter if xoom get Android 5.0. It won't never be better than a prime it has old dualcore. If you want to save money just get the xoom then. If you want the latest greatest most powerful tablet out, get the prime. Prime will be more futureproof with the power it has. You get the xoom, you will still end up getting another device soon based on how slow it is. So it's really a waste. Just get a prime again, and that'll last a long time without being outdated or seeming like it lacks power.
im getting what you're saying..
but to be honest. Sometimes holding the prime im getting crazy about that sd card sticking out. I also think its to thin/sharp at the edges.. but I also like its thin..
im just confused.. I just need to know if browser/mail/casual gaming/720p-videos are almost the same experince rigth now.. and yes. maybe I'll upgrade around fall/chrstimas again, but thats ok with the low price.
In the end you will end up spending more if you get the xoom now knowing you'll get rid of it later. I'm sure you will lose a lot money on it if you sell it and all these new tablets with better spec will be out by then. Then you have to fork up cash for the new tablet. And it's possible those new tablets could also have their own issues.

Getting either a transformer or a transformer prime soon? Not really! :(

So I've been patiently waiting for income tax money to get a new tablet, been reading a lot between the tf101 and the tf201 and I want a tablet that will have good development, I know the prime is too new and it has his fair share of issues including wifi and GPS, I can care less about GPS but I need wifi so as long as I can get a decent wifi signal so I can seat in my couch or my bed and pickup my wifi I'll be good, now the light bleeding from what the videos I've seen on YouTube wouldn't be a big problem but I don't know if I would be able to deal with dead pixels, now to my question , is there anyone that upgraded to the prime from the transformer and do you feel like it was a mayor upgrade or do you think the original is still a mayor contender? Is a $100 difference so is not that much of a difference in price, but from reading how Asus might have released it prematurely makes me wonder if I should go for the older more stable with more development transformer tf101.

The Tegra 2 in the original is ancient. Considering how fast the mobile market moves, it is like buying a Pentium 4 for a new desktop. The Tegra 3 is three times as fast between the CPU/GPU- ready for 2012.
With that said, with a Prime you go in expecting to deal with a dead GPS and weak wifi range. It is the trade-off for a modern amount of power.
My only personal issue was slower wifi in my bedroom (the edge of my network), but I love my Prime so much my solution was just to upgrade my router (Cisco e4200, best 2.4GHz consumer router on the market). Now it works great.

I'd say the OG TF101 has much faster WiFi speed as range from the access point increases, the Prime is thinner and lighter, and can be purchased with higher storage capacity.
If WiFi speed is the most important get a OG. If GPS is the most important get neither IMHO but def' not the Prime.
I would personally say getting a Tegra 2 now, would be like getting a Core 2 Duo instead of an Core i[357]. Now the Wayne and Grey based Tegra chips expected later this year....those will make a Tegra 2 look like a Pentium 4 versus an i7, if wikipedia is to be believed.

I see what your saying, and I don't care about GPS, I just want to make sure I get a somewhat solid tablet, as long as I can get wifi from like 5 feet from my router in my living room I won't complain, and I guess the other issues with light bleed and dead pixels is all luck, and there's rooting and recovery here for it, wish there was some custom honeycomb roms to play with like the revolver or krakd roms for the tf101, hopefully we'll see some development picking up for the prime soon, gonna see about swinging by best buy and testing one out while I wait for my tax money so I can just go buy the one I decide to go for when the money comes.

While some say GPS is no big deal, look at the amount of whining about it. I want it for alot of reasons. It automatically updates weather to the location, etc.
I purchased mine Less than two weeks ago from Best Buy. I have NO GPS at all. mine is a BCOKAS134452 serial number. My wifi isnt that bad actualy but i feel it is lacking when compared to my rooted nook color. I will try to open mine tonight and make one mod to see if it improves, if not, it goes back tomorrow.
Im not going to exchange it. Im going to return it receive my FULL refund. Then Re-purchase another unit so i have ANOTHER 2 weeks, incase there are issues.
While some may not find this right. I have noticed some people have major issues 3 or 4 weeks after purchase. That is what worries me. Just my .02$
Now you know about some of the issues affecting some users. Now check out the link in my signature. The positive transformer thread. That'll put things into perspective. GPS is a widespread issue although some peoples do work. As far as wifi, this a very limited issue. IMHO light bleed and dead pixels are a quality control and shipping issue. It's also the most common ground for trouble between both tablets.
One thing that alarmed me... while my TF101 fresh out of Microcenter was great: my Prime off eBay had a batch of wtfixels on the far left side and I was afraid that I may have to RMA. By the time I completed the initial setup stuff with my Google Account it went away and the pixels are fine in use.
I do consider the TF101 a better quality tablet but really, unless you do have hair pulling issues with wifi/gps, Prime is fine. I also think the sites more or less calling the Prime like the top or the most powerful tablet of the year are also correct enough. It just doesn't have a deluded cult preaching it's perfection.

So I'm still waiting for my tax money that should be here by the end of this week, by now I'm disappointed to say no prime for me, I've spend lots of time in the background here just reading negative posts and searching online and reading about rumors of discontinuation of the prime, whether is true or not, I think I'm gonna be patient and wait a bit to see what happens in the next couple of months, Acer is said to be the next one to have a tegra3 tablet, who knows who else throws one out next, and hopefully the tf700 doesn't take too long, oh well as much as is killing me to buy a tablet, I don't want to go backwards to the tf101 to feel I got a solid tablet, I want to feel about a tablet like I feel about my HTC hd2 , that is a solid device. Here's the thing bro....while you're waiting, buy a prime to play with. Most likely you will love it and keep it but guess what if you don't like it you can just return it like so many people have or are at least threatening to. At least you have something to do while you wait. That's my opinion but instead of the buzz kill threads just man up and go buy one see how great it is.

Here's the thing bro....while you're waiting, buy a prime to play with. Most likely you will love it and keep it but guess what if you don't like it you can just return it like so many people have or are at least threatening to. I read an article stating that less than 5% of extended warranties are ever used. Something to think about.
GPS is NOT a feature of the Transformer Prime. Anyone who brings it up anymore are doing so because it was a feature, but they bring it up because it was then removed. You don't buy a tablet for gps, you buy a gps. The GPS module and antenna are crap in the Prime. You would crap get signal and accuracy even if it did work properly.
For example, you don't buy a PS3 anymore for the ability to install Linux or PS2 backwards compatibility. Why? They removed those features.
Thee major problem of the weak wifi is the fact that one of the antennas is not actually connected properly in some of the old and new Primes. This is a reason to not buy the Prime.

That's why I said in OP that I could care less about GPS working, but wifi is a big thing for me.
My money came into my account yesterday, not sure but I might pick one up from best buy, play with it and decide what to do before the 14 day return period ends.

[Q] Best Android Tablet on the Market

Here is my question, I'm looking for a really good tablet with great battery life and I wanted to get the Vibrant community's opinion as to which is the best.
Please refrain from posting about apple products I simply do not like apple as a company and refuse to give them my business.
I would appreciate it if in addition to your selection you could tell me your reason for feeling why its the best.
- Cheers
I picked up an Asus Transformer (OG-not the Prime) a few weeks ago at Best Buy for $399 (Bob Shute almost convinced me to get the Nook Color though). It was the 32gb on sale for the same price as the 16gb (so why not) + it has external, so i have 64+/-gb of storage. I had lurked in a bunch of forums checking out support, ROMs, rootable, "official" ICS and general attitude of the forum members.
When I got it out of the box it was running 3.1 and I had known that it had an OTA update waiting. Within 30mins of getting it, I had upgraded, Rooted and was on my way to being a tablet owner. It was real easy to do too. The battery life on 3.2.1 was really good. Granted I am not using it all day long but I was getting about 2-4 days out of it. Kids would play games, watch Netflix, I would surf and my wife would do her coupon spreadsheets (yes she is one of those ladies and we do have a stockpile).
Fast forward to the ICS update. We got the OTA update and for some reason there is an issue with the kernel and people are getting random reboots. I am not sure if it is just me knowing what I am doing from so many tweaks with this phone and past ones or I just got a good tablet, but I messed with the governors and it has been 3 weeks since upgrade and I haven't had one yet. Knowledge is Power. Felt you should be aware of that though. Battery life on ICS is outstanding. I get 4-6 days out of it easily. Might cut it down now that baseball spring training has started and I can stream live video to it.
Conclusion- A few things. The Transformer (tf101) is just as good as the Prime (tf201) and actually I think it is better b/c the Prime has wifi, GPS and other hardward issues, but its bootloader can be unlocked whereas the tf101 is still lock for now. Another things is that you have to remember that these are seconday devices to most people and some of the redundant questions you see are rediculous.
My suggestion is to lurk in the Acer, Transformer, Galaxy, Xoom forums and see what is going on in them. Plus there are a bunch of smaller tablets coming out soon with Tegra3, Quad-core, low price,...
HTH and let me know if you have any Q's and sorry for the long post.
what do you want to do with this tablet?
I know you said not to mention any apple products but...
seriously dude even the iPad 2 is better than any android tablet out right now. iPad (third generation) just killed everything else. I know you don't like apple as a company but the iPad is pretty much the tablet market, the only tablet one should be getting. You're going to regret it if you don't get an iPad...

Ill be using the tablet for school mostly. Ill have about 100 lbs of books that id rather not have to carry with me everywhere. Ill also be using the tablet for light gaming just to keep me entertained from time to time as well as serving to replace my laptop for day to day tasks. Granted i know not everything can be accomplished by a tablet so ill still have my laptop at my apartment but need something light and portable but capable so i was thinking tablet.
As far as no apple products, they seem to hate me, i touch one and they seem to break they dont function properly and im honestly not convinced that they are the best product on the market. Their Marketing department tries to convince you of that but i hardly agree. (i wont get into it i don't want this to turn into a flame thread) regardless thank you for your input.
Ive been looking alot at the Transformer and TF Prime as well as the 10.1 inch samsung variants, but since i have ICS running on my Vibrant id very much like to have it running on my Tablet, i intend to run stock for a while until stable versions of either CM9 or AOKP are released for the device since i will be using it in a more productive than leisurely role.
@ woodrube thank you for the length of your post i appreciate the time you put into your response
@junglerumble thank you for your input, tho i whole heartily disagree with you (to each their own)
does anybody have an idea of the android tablets that are coming out in the first half of this year and when? I want to get a tablet but not at the moment. I'm waiting till more tablets come out to make up my mind but it would be nice to have some foresight.

Transformers have the keyboard dock too with independent battery in case you want that laptop thing going on. I love my TF and am happy I bought it. There are a couple of us who have the TFs like Alex9090, Mveksler, Gorealmighty and Manus I think.
I would wait til the Asus 3 comes out tegra 3 for the price of the og transformer

I used several different Android Honeycomb tablets, but gave up on all of them because I felt the software weren't advance enough for my purposes, so I got a Windows tablet instead. Then sold that and got the Galaxy Note (international version) which I think is the best consumer portable device made so far, since it acts as a phone and tablet, has the same resolution as the tablets (1280x800, and is even (much) faster than Tegra2, yet pocketable, has Wacom pen, can make phone calls and ultra fast GPS locking, awesome camera), although I didn't keep it since it doesn't support T-Mobile 3G.
Out of the Honeycomb tablets, I liked the Acer A500 and Toshiba Thrive most since it has fullsize USB connector, which works with flash drive and gamepads. I think the Asus Slider should be better since it has fullsize USB and keyboard as well, just a bit heavier. I do not feel tablets with Tegra2 is fast enough to handle 'higher' bitrates HD contents and MKV videos, although other purposes are fine, regular HD video should be okay. I also feel all Android tablets are overpriced for their present software features, unless at refurb price, if it were Ubuntu or some full fledged linux distro I'd be more interested. Which is why I think Windows 8 tablets will have some success, even though I'm not interested in Windows 8.
+1 OG Transformer. Great device

I want to thank everyone for their responses, after spending some time playing with the devices in store and reading through the developer forums I have decided on getting the TF prime, just seemed to blow everything else outta the water once all the tablets had 100+ apps installed and running live wall papers. Luckily i was able to find one at a local retailer since everywhere else was sold out.
I was so close (money in hand) to buying the Galaxy 10.1 but after reading this I decided on the TF201.
Darn near ever place Ive looked is out of stock though.
addition:
It didn't take much for me to switch. After this phone and its total lack of support, I try to stay clear of anything that has Samsung on it.
Thus far I have to say that my impressions of the tfp are extremely favorable so far I have experienced none of the recorded issues with the tablet save maybe the GPS but I have yet to test it outdoors the stock ics keyboard is far better than I expected on the tablet
I will update more as I have more time and experience with the tablet if so desired

I saw that due to the GPS issues they no longer advertise the tab has a GPS. Imagine if Samsung was forced to do the same for our phone's crummy GPS.
Id expect similar GPS to our phones. I ended up buying a real nice Tom-Tom GPS for my car so the phone GPS is bout always off now.

If and when it comes time to Root your device (I did it within 30mins of having it) You can use ViperMod and install Supercurio's OTA Rootkeeper and any updates you get, just open the Rootkeeper up and restore root. Handy little app if I do say so.
I recently purchased a Transformer Prime with the keyboard doc and I have no regrets. It's awsome. I've not experienced any of the GPS/hardware issues mentioned either.

Would you advise a Touchpad ?

Hello
My doubt is simple, i have a chance to aquire a 32gb black HP touchpad, 1 yo (still 1 year warranty) in perfect condition, for 200€.
Given the state of Android on this tab, would you advise me to buy it ?
For 200 eurodollars. Prob not. Wait and get the Asus/Google tablet for 199 new.
I also found a Viewsonic 10S for the same amount.
Highly confused... also, those 199$ will translate into 400€ back home
Trust me...

Everything gets a little more expensive after crossing european borders.
So i'm quite happy if i can get either of them from 200€...

all in all its the best tablet I have ever gotten. I have not even put android on it yet
I would recommend it at that price. Granted, the TP is EOL, but currently, in my opinion, it is one of the best tablets on the market for its price thanks to the great development community.
Just my .02
I had an Asus transformer I bought for my wife. I had to sell it after comparing it to my TouchPad. The Touchpad blew it out of the water speed wise. I was appalled. I am not a big supporter of Tegra chips and I know most Tablet manufactures used them because of their low price point where as the TI chip in the TP is a little speed demon. I am sure the GPU on the Tegra is better but I couldn't tell when comparing games except that the Touchpad ran them sooo much smoother with what looked like a higher FPS.
Also it was either one of the first or the first tablet to get ICS so you have amazing support on the device even though its as dead as a zombie

TouchPad has a Qualcomm (8060) chip, not TI.
But as for your question, the TouchPad is just OK in my opinion. I tend to use my computer and Galaxy Nexus over it for most activities. There is a very select few times that I prefer it over other devices.
That being said, and assuming you have a reason to use it more than me, it's a decent choice. Especially at it's price point. Android on it is astonishing, it's extremely quick in real world performance, and you have the option of using webOS. My biggest gripe by far is the screen. It's unbearably low-res in my opinion. It looks quiet pixelated.
Just my 2 cents.
I now stand on a dillema:
I can got either a Touchpad, or a Viewsonic 10S for the same price, same conditions.
Both have their pros and cons... And i can hardly get a good review on Touchpad's Android, or the Viewsonic's Android (ICS)...

In my honest opinion i absolutely love my touchpad. There is nothing that i can't do on it. I have it set up with both webos and cm9. Webos is slightly better in battery life, but i guess i never really notice it because i always boot into cm9. Everything i need as a daily driver words in cm9. I watch netflix on it daily and all other youtube videos. games are great as well. The only time i boot into webos is when i need to make a skype call, other than that im always on android. First of all, its really easy put ice cream sandwich on it, second...threres no need for a second. Its a great tablet no matter what os you run on it. And the best part is all of the developers that support and use our very loved tablet. Granted i only payed $220 for my touchpad, but knowing what i know now, i would have easily payed $400. You get the best of both worlds, webos is an AMAZING os(besides the limitation on apps), and android is decent(but has most the apps). So i say go for the touchpad and enjoy it!
my TouchPad has replaced every laptop I own for my go to choice for couch surfing etc. Running CM9 its by far the best Tablet I've played with - and since I was lucky enough to get my 32GB for $150 in the original fire sale - for me - the price can't be beat by anything out there these days. I just even installed TexTab so I can send and receive SMS messages from my TP (connected through bluetooth to my phone) saving me battery life on my phone as well.
I've been running Android on it since it was first made available - I've never gone back to WebOS at all.
I have used 3 different Android ICS Roms on my TP. Amazing. Fast, smooth, stable (even though ICS is still technically an Alpha release). The only things that WebOS has over Android at this point is functional camera and microphone (needed for Skype) and better battery life. When WebOS is put in sleep mode it uses virtually no battery that I can detect. Android in sleep mode still uses about 1% per hour.
I find myself using Android at least 90% of the time. And I disagree with the previous post about the screen resolution. I find it to be quite good actually.

This is pure specs, not benchmarks. Also, the touchpad is refered running WebOS, and not CM9. But you can still check the specs... the 3G is a bonus, guranteed.
But i belive the touchpad will be alot faster...

If you're buying a tablet, I'm of the opinion that the quality of the screen should be the first concern, and the Viewsonic has a terrible screen in comparison to the Touchpad. The Touchpad should be the same speed or faster, and both have ICS. Just think, you're going to be staring at the screen the whole time and at different angles. The Viewsonic's screen will wash out if you hold it the wrong way, the Touchpad's won't.
I'm glad to see so much support of the Touchpad in this forum. I just got mine yesterday and sadly the audiojack is busted so off it goes again to HP. Someday soon I'll have it back and get to see what all this fuss is about!

True enough. The TP screen has to be better
But both have it's pros and cons, for example, the TouchPad does not have HDMI out.
I'll have to think about it...
I've had mine since Dec. (my first tablet and Android device) and I could not be happier.
Right now I cant see me not having one. I spend much less time in front of my pc now.
It takes care of most of my browsing, news and book reading, and a bit of arcade gaming.
As others said earlier, the only thing missing is the mic and camera (and wifi probs for some)... and if theyre really needed, you can simply boot into WebOS
while it is still in an early aplha phase, it's incredbily stable. More so than a beta release ics rom on my phone. Bar the mic and camera, everything is near on perfect. I picked up my touchpad for 150euro, so i can't really complain.

My TFP is faster than the new ipad except 3D graphics

Someone benchmarked the new ipad vs TFP here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jdbtiNnZzE
The new ipad blows away TFP on 3D graphics benchmark. Nvidia better go back to the drawing board. On Browsermark and Sunspider benchmarks, the stock TFP fair OK against the new ipad. But my TFP running Virtuous Prime at 1.6Ghz beats the new ipad on Browsermark and Sunspider:
Browsermarks Benchmark (higher score is better)
new ipad: 99561
stock TFP: 100849
my TFP: 130000+ (I don't have my TFP me at work, so roughly that)
Sunspider Benchmark (less time is better)
new ipad: 1825 ms
stock TFP: 2344 ms
my TFP: ~1700 ms
Aaaaaaaaahhhhhh!

stock prime running 1.6ghz overclock can score even higher than that. it was already known the CPU from Tegra3 smokes the A5x. The A5x edges out the gpu from prime. A5x gpu used mostly to power the screen though. most of ghost graphics benchmarks is with screen off. Anyways they both on the gpu front. we still have optimized games for tegra3, therefore our games look better and has more effects.
the a5x seems indeed to be faster, but the tegra3 has some special effects that the a5x is unable to process. unfortunally the games have to be 'tegra optimzed', and apple is has more content atm, but more and more developers take android seriously, future of android gaming will be sweet.

"We" have a 2048x1536 screen and a better GPU therefore our games look better when optimized. Yes, I do own the new iPad now.
Yeah I know this horse has been beat to death by now but the new IPAD has to push 4x the pixels so to keep up with the prime it needs to be a Minimum of 4x faster. Honestly until we hit the sub 22nm, this kind of gpu will be a HUGE drain on battery for mobile usage.
I say lets go to 1080p then put a huge emphasis on lighting effects. 720p for 7inch.

you funny...good for you then. well you not making much use of that powerful gpu hanging around prime forums so much.
a key word you mentioned was "when" optimized. even ipad2 had only less than a handful of games optimized for it. there won't hardly be any. reason why? because apple developers make most of their content to be played on any generation device. plus my ipad1 Infinity Blade2 still looks just as good as the new Ipad one. aside from better screen and little bit more detailed. but side by side they basically look the same. that's why I never upgraded to ipad2. cause my original Ipad still played all the same content flawlessly.
on another note, what games do you have that they updated for the new resolution? I know there isn't any new Ipad optimized games yet. that won't come until that RPG infinity blade dungeons Come out.
do you have that new Mass effect game? its coming to android also and will be tegra3 optimized. that game does look cool. not sure if i want to buy it for my Ipad or just wait for android version, which will be better

that's the point. only been out a week and has already had issues plastered all over every major tech site and consumer reports. plus all the television news stations here in U.S. are broadcasting the issues also. new Ipad is good but don't act like it doesn't have its share of issues also. its like I said before, no device is perfect. even the best selling tablet, Ipad, has major issues also. but instead Ipad issues are in far greater numbers than prime. then apple came out and publicly denied the issues despite proof of them.

WiFi:
Next to router
iPad: 20mbps

Yeah, really unhappy with my iPads WiFi.
Personally, I find the Prime to be plenty fast, with the only area needing significant improvement being browsing. However, I'm also of the opinion that browsing isn't being held back by the processor (or its performance in any benchmarks), but just that the ICS browser needs to be optimized. Chrome is better, but I've found it too unstable for production use.
Once the browser speed is improved, the Prime will be an overall exceptional performer. Enough so that I'm rethinking my reluctance to consider the high-res screen on the TF700--I think the Tegra 3 will be just fine there as well (although the impact on the highest-end games perhaps remains a question mark).

Dude why waste your time, SERIOUSLY. All I know is my android devices sure is collecting alot of dust lately.
Phone I'll stick with android but tablet (after trying out two prime and still owning a xoom) the new Ipad gets most of my attention.
I returned the prime in favor of the new iPad...it's such a shame, but the prime was just..not ready for release. I waited a week via preorder, and received about half the left side full of light bleeding, and when docked, opening and closing didn't feel right..you could tell something was going to give, so back it went.
I noticed a side of the dock was higher than the other, it created uneven flex when opening and closing,..so I completely understand the screen cracking issue. Another preorder would of been another week of waiting, and hoping the new unit wouldn't have the same issues...it just wasn't worth it.
While I had it I also bought the new iPad, and did numerous side by side tests of different websites I actually use...I kept the one that was faster. Another benefit is the stock keyboard is actually very easy to type on, better than stock android and thumb keyboard.
I could also finally take notes via stylus much quicker than I could with the prime, and have a great app for it.
Based on what I read here, I didn't think I could send or open email attachments and download files for offline, but that's untrue. Many of the things I heard on this forum actually turned out to be untrue regarding the new iPad, or have work arounds..at least for stuff I actually use.
Anyway, very disappointed with the prime and asus for releasing it as they did. I'd love to order one again, but I won't in the quality I received it.

Why don't you run a flash benchmark and get back to us....k thanks.
I Gotta Ask
Why the FOCK all these comparison threads or discussions about Ipad ?
I personally brought the Prime because of total dislike of Ios & Apple, so I don't give a flying fig what Ipad can do or what it cant, this Prime general section has more Apple/Ipad comparisons, hardware talk etc than anything Prime/Android.
I come here to read about Prime not Ios/Apple , come on chaps let it go, the majority I think have had enough of this , Take your Apple talk to an Apple forum

Sure, but I love how you people keep talking like your Prime doesn't have any problems. And how the thing is sooo much better then the iPad. U mad?

Funny, I didn't say anything about my prime not having problems.
Some people just have too much time to troll these forums. Usually means unemployed or unmarried. Quite frankley I could care less. If I wanted an IPAD I could buy one, in fact I could have bought about 9 with my last pay check but I much prefer my crappy useless transformer prime. Either way this thread will be shut down by tomorrow.
