[Q] Cannot access internal memory - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Yesterday when I was playing Pool Rebel online, it crashed once in the first. After a restart, it looks fine and was working properly except a little bit overheat.
Then the phone prompt a low battery warning, so I plugged the charge into it and keep playing, after a few minutes, seems like the charging speed is lower than the power consumption and the phone automatically shutdown. After a few seconds, I switched it on again, and the problem happened.
The phone looks like just been fully wiped and updated the rom, so I tried to install the titanium backup but failed, said there is no enough memory on the phone. I went to the application management and found there is no memory usage gauge on the internal memory tab.
Please help~

Randomly switching off

Hi There!
I am running Stock Galaxy SII and lately maybe 1-2 times a day my phone switches off. I am not sure why? How can I troubleshoot this? Are logs kept on the device as to the reason for shutdowns?
It happen me too with a stock rom when i tryed to move some applications from the phone memory to the SD (using the setting menu).
What i understood is that if you move appications that was auto installed in the phone memory, the phone itself start to be crazy and do random power off.
Now i flashed a custom rom and reinstalled all applications. I let applications to install automatically in the default memory storage position (sometime is the SD and sometime is the phone memory, it depend if the application itself is designed to work with the Frojo android version or not).
I noticed that now the phone stopped to do random power off so, i presume, the problem is fixed.
Hope this will help you too.

HELP: Phone suddenly restarts and gets stuck at Android screen

Hi,
My phone sometimes just restarts suddenly like it crashed and gets stuck at the Android screen. This has happened twice - first when I was listening to some songs, and the second time while the screen was unlocked.
The first time, I noticed that the SD card suddenly became unmounted and after a few seconds the phone rebooted from the Android screen, but gets stuck there.
The second time, I took the phone out of my pocket and found it stuck at the Android screen.
In both cases, the power button didn't work and I had to remove the battery and replace it to fix the problem.
In both cases, I wasn't running too many apps - the first case, just the music player and some background apps, the second time, just the background apps.
I am a root user with stock 2.2.2 ROM, and I use Link2SD. I have had 2 SD card unmount problems in the past, but it hasn't happened for almost 2 months. Dont know if its related.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

[Q] Severe start-up problems with Xperia Pro - Battery ? BIOS ?

Hi Folks,
i guess my Xperia Pro (= Xperia Neo + keyboard, Android 2.3.4) is dying on me, it doesn't start anymore. I am actually not quite sure if this thread should really be here, as this may well be a general problem with SONY Xperia's, mods feel free to move it if so.
Here is what is happening:
Before, when i shut down the phone and connected it to the charger, a kind of BIOS screen flashed up shortly after that, showing 'SONY Ericsson' and then some simple graphics displaying the loading status of the battery.
Now, if i shut down the phone normally, these BIOS screens are not there anymore, and subsequently the phone can also not be started. Here is what i have to do get it working again:
- pull the battery
- wait for 5 - 10 mins
- connect the phone to the charger with NO battery inserted
- wait for the 'SONY Ericsson' screen, then insert the battery quickly
The phone will then startup normally. The following potential problems were checked:
- battery is fully loaded
- SD card removed, to no avail
- SIM card removed, to no avail
Phone is rooted, and has a 1 GB EXT3 partition on the SD card as ROM extension (SD Link).
Strange enough, the phone is also sometimes not correctly recognized on my laptop. If that happens, also SONY's support program for Windows, called 'PC Companion 2.0', is unable to connect to the phone when on USB.
What could that be ? Is my battery dying on me ? That's highly unlikely, because the phone is only 3 months old and i can run the phone for 3 days without recharging, if necessary (Thanks to root, removing facebook and the like, and the app 'SetXperia').
On the other side, the missing recognition from my Laptop would most likely indicate a problem with that BIOS being loaded from the ROM, no ? Do ANDROID phones even have something like a BIOS ? If so, is it made by the phone manufacturers ?
Thank you for helping me out, as i have rooted the phone i can not easily send it to service.
Regards
Christian
ADDENDUM / 0% battery problem related :
It may so happen that my problem is somehow related to the fuel gauge problem reported in this thread here, but i never experience a 0% loading state ? My batter never goes lower than 30% typically, and the restart problem will also happen if the battery status was showing 98% when i am shutting it down. However, it seems that the guys suffering from this do have a similar problem, i.e. the KERNEL not booting when they try to switch on the phone ?
Is it possible that some hardware part in the phone checks the status of the battery, detects it as too low and refuses to start-up, even though the battery is actually full ? But then, why doesn't it start with battery inserted when i connect it to the charger ? I first have to pull the battery, then it will start ?
ADDENDUM 2 / Power Saving App SetXperia messing with CPU clock:
As mentioned above, i am using the app 'SetXperia' to save battery. In 'default' mode it will constantly vary the CPU clock according to real need, in order to save on battery. Can this app confuse the fuel gauge, and my battery show it is fully loaded, while in reality it is almost down ?
Sounds to me like you removed an app that you shouldn't have. This happened to me the first time I rooted my Xperia Pro. Ended up in an endless boot loop.
The fix? Factory reset of the phone via PC Companion. There's information on exactly how to do it in PC Companion.
After it's reset, you can re-root it. Then be more careful about what you remove.

Hi, thanks for the input, but i am pretty sure this is not the case. Here is what i removed, using Titanium Backup:
SONY Sales Demo
Facebook 1.7.1
Facebook Setup 2.0.A.0.2
Facebook Calendar Sync
Facebook Extension 2.0.13
Facebook Notification Publisher 1.0
Facebook Post Viewer 1.0.A.0.3
Fun & Downloads 2.2.3
Moxier Pro 2.4.0
Music Unlimited 1.0.2
SEMC Facebook Proxy 1.0.A.0.7
Games and Applications 1.0.A.0.6
Street View 1.7.0.4
Twitter Extension 2.0.9
UEFA.com 1.0.0
Video Unlimited 1.2.0
Xperia HotShots 0.1.1
Anyhow, i have made a backup of all of them in Titanium before de-installation, so i could restore them if you really think that any of them could have an influence on whether the KERNEL (BIOS) will start after being shut down ?

ICS nightmare: 100% cpu usage & keeps rebooting

I have upgraded my SGS2 to ICS (PDA I9100DXLP7) (rooted with CF-ROOT). All was fine the first weeks, then I started having occasional phone crazyness often when the battery was lower than 30%. Phone would reboot, gets very hot and keeps reboot until battery totally flat within minutes.
I noticed an additional problem which is auto-update was giving many errors such as : package invalid, not enough storage to install app (well got 300MB free for apps, 3GB on internal sd and 4GB on external...)... but manual install/upgrade always succeeds.
Then I started having issue of loss of mobile data connectivity... rebooting the phone would solve the problem..except that now almost everytime I reboot the phone, the cpu usage is at 100%, phone soft reboot (not full reboot) after a while (from 1 to 5 minutes). battery is being sucked at the rate of ~1% per minute!!! Usually it takes about 30 to 50 minutes of loop reboot before the phone can work... once it works and cpu is not 100% all is fine. Even plugged in the charger the phone barely maintains it's battery level, if plugged in usb, battery keeps going down!
cpu usage is caused by system server (100% cpu on both cores). I tried adb debug console, all I see is that the phone gets stuck for a while, then all processes are being killed and the phone soft-reboot.
I tried clear the dalvik cache and reformat the cache partition, didn't really seem to help. I tried disabling media scanner too, with no luck.
I now notice that most of the time the phone is stuck in that auto-reboot loop, the auto-update process is in progress... not sure if it means anything.
Anyone got any idea on what is wrong? is a full wipe/reinstall my only solution?
Thanks,
David.
Have you tried using Better Battery Stats to see what process is running to make your phone do that?
Hi,
It's mentionned in my post, the culprit is the process "system_server"
Wipe phone and reinstall firmware from a different download .

My Galaxy S3 - GT-i9300 Keeps restarting at regular intervals

Hi everyone,
My Samsung Galaxy S3 (GT-i9300) is 3.5 years old and is currently running latest Official CM 13 Nightlies ROM. Since last week, it is showing a complaint. My phone restarts at regular intervals. Most of the times, I do not let the phone discharge completely and so the android uptime will show even 15 or more days. But right now, my phone is unable to keep it running up itself for not more than two hours. Whenever I check my phone's uptime, it does not show more than 2 hours. This restarting occurs mainly when the screen is off. But when I work on the phone such as browsing or calling or watching videos, it restarts very rarely. Also sometimes, when I check my phone, it shows no network although full coverage is available in my area. At the same time, my phone will be having no sound at all (no keypad tone, no ear speaker sound, no loud speaker or music sound etc). At that time, sound will not be available even in the head phones also. Network and sound comes back after few minutes, but the issue occurs in regular intervals.. Sometimes the problem will be with network only and sometimes there will be no network and no sound. This network and sound issue started occurring at the same time when the restarting issue began.
Steps Tried :
1. I have completely factory reset my phone. I have erased system, data (including internal storage), cache and dalvik cache partitions and re-flashed most android versions (cm 11, 12 and 13) including my samsung stock jellybean rom. All roms are working in my phone. But this restarting issue occurs in all roms (even when no additional apps are installed, sim card and memory card are removed)
2. I have changed the battery and this issue (restarting and no network/sound) occurs in new battery also.
3. I have removed all connections from mainbaord which can be removed by hand except the display connector. (Removed front camera, back camera, sim/memory card tray connector, speaker/earphone jack connector, volume button connector etc) and kept the phone on. But the restarting issue still occurs.
Can anyone suggest me any solution?
