After installing ICScrewed my computer & Kies sees my i777 as a GT-I9100???
I just did a fresh install of Task's ICS'd_Out_V9 and again both see my i777 as a GT-i9100, do I need to reflash my Etropy DD Kernel or is this normal with these two ROMs??
Problem is I use Kies to back up calls and messages and it has done it successfully with stock, UnNamed and SHOstock but with ICScrewed and ICS'd_Out_V9 it will only restore calls and not messages(my thinking it's due to its being seen as a i9100)..
Thats normal for me, it' probably because those are hellraised ROMs originally. I'm not sure how to back the other stuff up, sorry about that man.

Both those ROMs are based off of the i9100 firmware which is why it would show as an i9100 device. I believe that you can change it in the build.prop to fix it to be i777.

I was wondering the same thing. Would this affect updates for firmware, such as Samsung updates. As you can see from my sent from... it seems to have truly changed my model. I am using the sensation 2.0 ROM.

More specifically, you shouldn't even TRY to get OTAs.
Why do people always want to receive an OTA when they're on a custom ROM? It makes zero sense. If you want to receive OTAs, stay stock. If you want custom ROMs, stay away from OTAs. You DO realize that in almost all situations, OTAs show up as leaks here on XDA long before the OTA rolls out? For example, Unnamed 2.x was rebased on UCKK6 at least a week before KK6 started rolling out via OTA, and we'd had access to UCKK6 for at least 2-3 weeks before that.
Good point Entropy, running custom roms and kernels there is no need for samsung updates, if you do try to install them your looking for problems..
As for my issue, it was the roms that caused it, I went back to SHOstock and its back to being seen as the i777 and Kies restored all my messages and call logs nicely...
Sidenote: had to wipe and reflash after running titanium restore of missing apps and data, I guess some of the backed up stuff was from ICScrewed's ROM & and it was causing conflicts(forced closings and unusable phone options) but after the reflash and KIES restore of my stuff all is good.. Kind of wish I didn't purchase TiPro now

I just rooted my Gs2, I have flashed my captivate many times: roms/ kernels/ modems. But it's been so long i having trouble remembering what next. I don't want to flash a rom as of yet, waiting for ics, cm9. but i do want to take advantage of being rooted, I would love to Uninstall all bloat ware, and freeze all apps that always seem to be running in the background even tho i auto kill them all the time. So.... What are things i should do to acheive the above "wants" and what else do i need "apps" etc. I might think about flashing a rom sooner than later. What is this odin mobile or cwm mobile i have read about? Where to get it? I have flashed roms in the past using cwm by putting rom on sd, and flashing. I DO NOT want to trip my rom counter !! thanks sorry for all the questions.

You can use titanium backup to freeze or uninstall the bloatware. In terms of flashing ROMs I use entropy's kernel which has clockworkmod and works the same way as you're used to. I'm not sure how to change the kernel without incrementing the flash counter though.
I tried installing busy box, said there was a problem, try reinstalling custom ROM. But I haven't flashed a ROM. Only rooted using Odin.

I just bought a used galaxy s2 I love the phone already. I had the samsung infuse before, and I loved the cm7 nightly builds on that phone, but had to upgrade You all know how that is haha.... I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1505172 to root and then had to unlock seeing as I am on rogers.... First thing I have to say is that every time I boot up I see the triangle with the ! in it so I might have done the wrong one? It said before i had the i9000m btw. And I installed CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG2-v4.1-CWM4 as the kernel
Another thing I might as is that when I tried to open odin 1.85, it would say Odin.ini with a bunch of sqaures, i press ok and it closes.... So i just used 1.83.
Last thing is who do I go into cwm recovery, and I want to go on a cyanogen mod 7 or 9.... Should I try cm9? And how would I do that?
THANKS!
Hope everyone here is more helpful than on the infuse sometimes
the yellow triangle is always there when you boot it cause you rooted it.. but gladly, you can remove it with a usb jig (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udzMQ_dsci4) or without usb jig (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOXNf_kH-iA)
I highly suggest skipping CM9 and giving Resurrection Remix a try. Also learn to live with the yellow triangle and forget the CF kernels. I use Siyah kernel and there are other alternatives just as good.
I've tried almost every rom and kernal for S2 and I truly believe RR and Siyah is the best performing combo of them all.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Thanks I will trythat now, but how do I do that? I sent you a message
If you don't have a usb jig to reset the flash counter and remove the triangle on boot up try chainfire's TriangleAway app either found on the play store(paid) or in his thread here on xda(free). Make sure you are running an ICS rom.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Sorry I meant how do I do the siyah and rr thing but thanks
I received your message. All the info you will need is right here on XDA already. When you rooted your phone you probably installed CWM recovery (press home, volume up and power buttons to boot into it). Assuming you have that you can just follow the steps in the RR thread to install. It already comes with Siyah Kernel so you can simply flash the latest version to keep it updated. I used odin to flash a modem firmware for Canadian networks but that's optional since the stock base band in rr worked fine.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
So that means all I do is flash rr from cwm and clear that bs stuff and I'm good to go?
Sent from my GT-I9100M using xda premium
Its simple as that Just follow the extended steps in the faq of the rr thread and remember to make backups in cwm in case you make mistakes and need to try again.

if u need to do a factory reset/full wipe in the process of intalling the new rom
all apps and data will be deleted

not compusory though

I have an ATT I777 on the UCKK6 base. Id like to root it. Its obviously still running GB and that base I listed. I know they sometime lock stuff down further with different update. So the question is, would there be any issue with updating the phone to ICS through KIES and then rooting? Or should I root it before? If I root it before will I lose root if I try to update it then, I would think so at a minimum.
does anyone know the most current base, or what it would be that I came out with after the KIES update?

Ok, so then go through the process to root UCKK6 and then just flash that? Id assume the other available ROMs have the kernel checked for the EMMC bug?
Im new to this phone ans Samsung in general, is this phone basically unbrickable? I see unbricking flashes and things like that

No. This phone is definitely *not* unbrickable if, by unbrickable you mean not capable of being bricked. If you mean can it be brought back from a brick, then it depends on the type of brick we're talking. If you're talking the hard brick caused by the eMMC bug, then no. You won't be bringing it back from the dead.
If you have not already, I would advise reading the post at the following link, then reading the thread related to the mentioned app:

No need really, I'm so used to running ASOP like ROMS on my other phones I probably wouldn't like it anyway. I was mostly just curious as it seems that with the base I'm currently on rooting is a little more involved. I was also wondering if Sammy had maybe patched something in the new build.

Here is what I would do if I were you. When I rooted mine I was on KH7 so I used DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit then installed Mobile Odin to flash Entropy512's DD 3-7 GB kernel to get CWM then flashed a custom ICS ROM. I went back to look over creepys guide "How to Flash Custom Binaries Without Ever Incrementing the Flash Counter" I have read it 100 times I just want to make I got you the best info I could.... Give a BIG shout out to creepyncrawly for putting that guide out!!! Make sure you read that guide lots of great info... I did see a KK6 stock rooted package on here 1a. just read up see what is best then just follow the steps..... If you have any more questions just post them in this thread.
1. If you flash the 2c. "Odin3 One-Click Downloader Stock I-777 UCKH7 with Root no BL" link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311081
1a. Kernel + cache + rooted UCKK6 system package
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432
2. Then install Mobile Odin link (You will need this to flash Entropy512 GB kernel just extract the zImage from the zip file and load it in the kernel slot in Mobile Odin)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899
3. Then flash Entropy512 GB kernel to get CWM link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1289460
4. Then you can flash any custom ROM you want!! AOKP is a great choice Task650 is VERY solid.... GL link

I just picked up a second SGS2 for my wife. She does not care about a bunch of custom stuff on her phone. She wants it to "just work right" as she puts it. I do however want to root it for the purposes of CWM rom backup and app backup. My question is, will the genuine update of ICS automatically bring the brick bug with it if I update OTA or through kies? I know I need a different kernel for cwm etc. Looks like maybe I want the stock rom from the Semi16 thread?

That's the way I would go.
Stock ICS UCLE5 with a custom kernel is an option. Stock Gingerbread with a custom kernel is another option. If you root and install a custom kernel, the phone will not update automatically, since it will not have the stock kernel.
My son's phone is still stock Gingerbread 2.3.4 with Entropy512's daily driver kernel which I installed for him way back in December.
Hi, This question arises after much research and several kernel/rom combination attempts failing.
I have been having problems with the rooting/ROM flashing on several i777 lately. Obviously there are so many different ROMs and kernels. Mostly the ROMs I try are call "ROOTED STOCK ROMS" and custom kernels.
One observation I would really like to express is that NOTHING created by the dev. "ZEDOMAX" has EVER worked for me.!!!! Wiping/formatting, nothing. I have had problems ranging from non-booting to booting and running but overheating and rapid battery drain.
Also, seems as though this phone has lost the battle against age, in that all the custom dev. seems to be more than a year old, except for the UCMD8 that just came out. I also can't get that one to work. I reverted to ICS 4.0.3 mistakenly believing that the format/wipe step was safe unlike the 4.0.4 version which everyone warns against. Now I see that that is a problem for 4.0.3 as well, so I went with rooting 2.3.4 and tried to install GALAXSIMUNLOCK. It just won't install!!!
What to do now? This is exhausting.!!!
Interestingly, These phones still show LOTS of demand in the market whereas, The BEAUTIFULL pebble blue S3 with a brand new LCD/FRAME I have just sits there, no interest in it at all???
Any opinions would be GREATLY appreciated. Maybe 2.3.4 is too old for GALAXSIMUNLOCK???
Thanks

Apparently GB 2.3.4 is too old. I flashed a stock 4.0.4 ICS. Rooted, unlocked and updated to UCMD8. All is good!!!!
I also can't get UCMD8 rooted(cooked) rom to install for some reason it always turns out STOCK!!! very strange.

Cooked is essentially stock. You won't notice much difference in the way it looks. But there are differences. It has AJK kernel instead of stock kernel, has root and busybox, is deodexed and has been debloated. You can check on any of those things to see if they are there. Boot into recovery, try a root application, use a root file explorer to look into the root files, etc.
Make sure you data factory reset and wipe cache and dalvik in cwm recovery. Reboot in to recovery and flash the cooked rom again. Make sure the rom download was not corrupt.
