Modem (radio) from AT&T GS2 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Any AT&T users with the GT-I9100 try the modems from the modem thread in AT&T GS2 development thread. I just flashed a couple not knowing what was going to happen, and they work.

Do you mean they work better? How much better?

Darky's rom? On the fascinate?

I was stalking in the i9000 forums and I noticed on the Darky's rom thread at the top of the first post it says that it should work on all sgs variants. Is that true? I have a hard time believing that and I definately am not willing to be the first to try it.

SGS variants. It's referring to all the international versions (they're all the same besides different radios and carriers) of the original SGS. Not the US variants.

never use any kernel/rom/mod from another sgs phone...none of them work on our cdma fascinate

Note in ICS. Will it work on tmobile?

If i have my note on the leaked ics roms, will i be able to flash one of the tmobile modems to get tmobile 3g or 4g

Yes, that's exactly what I'm running. I get respectable 4G speeds (6 up / 3 down). Of the 3 or 4 T-mobile modem files out there, I found 2 worked for me...then it was just a bake-off with SpeedTest.net to see which one I wanted to stick with.
Unfortunately, I couldn't tell you which specifically...once I got it working, I didn't keep the files around.

I worked the hell out of the telus, KID and Blaze radios in ICS and have found, for me, Blaze gives the best result, with KID a close second.
You can find these in the developers and general sections under threads labelled for T-Mo modems.
Does my phone have to be unlocked or can I just flash the blaze modem?

Must be unlocked first and rooted.

Judging by your Bio you're from Australia, in your region you are best to stick to the i9300T radios because of the frequencies in your country.
In saying that, the LH1 radio might work just fine, generally the idea with modems is what's good for me might be crap for you and vice-versa.
Basically YMMV.

UK and I lose 70% of signal .
So modem is not for all phones.
You can try the modem yourself.

What would be considered a good modem for in the US?
That's one thing I haven't came across yet in the S3 i9300 threads, a threads featuring different modems? I came from the epic4g, being able to just throw one in with Odin.

If you're talking about the TracFone variant of this phone that is available directly through StraightTalk, then this isn't correct. (if you meant the i9100G. There is no such phone as the i9000G)
The TracFone variant that StraightTalk offers directly is actually model number SGH-S959G. It seems that it is most closely similar to the SGH-I777, and is likely just that; a re-numbered, re-issue of that same phone (for AT&T) specifically for StraightTalk.
If I'm right, and you do end up getting this phone, then do NOT flash anything from the i9100G forum to that device. It will at best, not work and you'll have to re-flash a stock firmware for that model... or at worst, you will brick it.
That was very helpful. I've decided to just get a GSM nexus and toss a similar in it. Thank you so much tougj
