Hey guys, so Im on my second GSII after the first had overheating issues, and I've never paid attention before to see if my first one did this, but I just noticed my soft keys dont light up immediately when unlocked. They flicker while turning on. Anyone else noticed this? Hope its not a hardware issue as I bought this from Walmart, and with their new policy I have to drive all the way back to the store I bought this at.
Mine does the same thing
It's normal.
Thank goodness lol. I was really thinking it was a hardware issue. Thanks for the replies dudes
Same here...Glad to know that it's not just me.

Hi guys, I could really use some help.
I've a T-Mobile G2 variant which was running a stock HTC Sense ROM. I started getting weirdness happening on it though - the home screen moving on it's own - switching between pages and back again, pressing any buttons apart from the power button just switched the home screens to the thumbnail view. Dialogue boxes refused to let me press the okay or cancel buttons, and texting became impossible - key presses deciding for themselves what they thought I was pressing. Rebooting the phone made little difference, and I tried re-calibrating several times, but this only helped for a short time before it all went again.
Just before Christmas I decided to flash a new ROM, deciding upon the Froyo 2.2.1 final from Elelinux. I have the same problem though, and it's right annoying.
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?
Apps I currently have installed are:
Google Sky Map
Jewels
Google Scoreboard
Shazam
Sky+
Superuser
Terminal Emulator
WiFi Analyzer
The phone is almost 18 months old, but had been working perfectly until recently - around the same time I installed Angry Birds (which I uninstalled assuming it to be the cause).
Well i had this behavior as well. You need to change your digitizer as your screen has become unresponsive. I tried to fix it myself following the guidelines in the according thread in General and ended up breaking my camera lens.
So what i am suggesting is you get it to an HTC Repair store and let them fix it under warranty. Mine is as good as new now.
Unfortunately sounds like an issue with the digitizer in the screen, which can be repaired but isn't a simple job. The fact that touching the screen anywhere shows the preview suggests the screen is already registering a touch (hence broker digitizer). Don't spose you have an extended warranty or insurance for a replacement?
Hi there,
I've changed mine a month ago, it has cost me about 40€ and was made in 30min with the official tutorial from Htc that you can find on youtube. It was yes.. Really eaaasy ;-)
gruß,
H.
Thanks for the replies - I had hoped it would be software, although I kinda knew it would be hardware. I've got a monthish left on my contract, so I don't think it'll be in warranty, see if I can hang on without it :/
Isn't HTC giving 2 year of warranty for hardware? I've still got a year to go in mine.
mine's not from HTC - it's a T-Mobile one (albeit from a 3rd party supplier), and T-Mobile warranties are usually rubbish from my experience.
Well you won't lose anything by trying. Get in touch and bust their balls so you can get your digitizer changed. It's a hardware fault, not yours. I was treating mine very very well and still it broke after 9 months of use.
Get them to change it, it's not your fault they use crap material to make them.
from what you've said, Id say its maybe more likely to be a trackball issue, which probably doesn't make much of a difference to you, but might be slightly easier to fix

He cannot type a message because letters type themselves in, it's clearly a digitizer problem, not a trackball issue i'm afraid.
Reflashed stock T-Mobile ROM this morning - hopefully I can get to my local T-Mobile shop at lunchtime to get them to fix it. Thanks for all your help.
and then I returned. T-Mobile said there was a long processing time for repairs at the moment, and they had no loan phones I could use whilst mine was away. Did say I could upgrade early though which was nice. Spent my lunch hour trying out several new phones (including a couple of nokias, sorry). Came back with a Motorola Defy, and a still broken Hero.
Hello, UK user here, hence starting a fresh thread as id hope to get some uk-centric advice..
non-rooted (ie factory install & marketplace apps) 3vo - bought from online retailer, Orange network coverage..
Handset has developed a troubling new habit - about 2/3rds of the way down the screen (just below touch flo clock), the touch is entirely unresponsive. If the handset is unlocked however, it starts trying to activate this section of the screen - jumping to apps, holding down keys when trying to type, trying to place or remove widgets. On web browser if i try to scroll the page it thinks im trying to multi-touch.
Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? If so, are there any known fixes?
I left it in a warm cupboard overnight hoping it might be trapped moisture under the screen but this hasnt helped. Im not keen to do a factory reboot as i'll have to collect all the apps and settings from scratch again - however if this is known to resolve the problem, i'll do it straight away.
Im just extremely concerned as ive had the phone about 3 months into a 2 year contract. Can someone advise whether i should speak to orange or HTC uk about a replacement? id imagine the online retailer (Buymobilephones.net) will wash their hands of it and pass the buck.
Any solutions much appreciated, sorry if this all seems slightly vague & panicked.
thanks.
Hello mate. I think u will have to try a restore there are apps in the market to back up your current apps without root. If u ring orange they won't help because its a generic handset. Trust me I know. If you call HTC they will most probably ask u to factory reset anyway. It sounds like a hardware fault so replacement may be only option. Let me know how u get on tho cuz I got mine from the same place.

ok, thanks for your message. Might try and take it to a high street store over the weekend.
My galaxy tab has been working great until about a week ago when I was using it and the screen just went blank. It is still on because it is backlit and the touch screen still works and I can hear the sounds and it vibrates but there is no display. I have searched every and found no fix! I spent 20 minutes on the phone with a Samsung rep and they were no help whatsoever. Id like to avoid sending my tablet in for repair.
My tablet is rooted but is still running the stock rom.
PLEASE HELP! Thanks.
I think there's a loose contact in there somewhere. Possibly the LCD as the digitizer seems to respond
Thanks for the reply. I gave in and battled two customers support reps the first of which hung up on me while trying to transfer me within the first 5 minutes. If it's not a hardware issue and anyone else has a fix ill be checking this. If not then I'm probably gonna send it in for repair.
Probably some moron applied pressure on the screen on the units when it comes in bundle order, like when you press an LCD for too long it creates a rainbow? most cases it just dies.

Hi guys, I wonder how did the problem was fixed. I´m having a similar problem with a 8 months tab. After 02 weeks turned off, when I turned it on the screen came up with reddish noise (like a TV without signal) e turned to blank right after. I´ve charged the battery during the night and tried again. The image came garbled and turned again as before going blank just after. Trying to reset and hard reset produced no result.
As I bought this tab in USA and am in Brazil now no service rep was keen to take it back.
It seems to me being a hardware problem (a bad conection may be??). I´ve seen some videos on you tube how to desassembly it (does not seem much difficult). Would you, guys, think is worthfull? Send it back to USA going to cost some money and problably months of time...

Hello all, I suddenly had a problem which causes wifi and bluetooth stop working. What happens is;
When I click turn on wifi button, 'Error' message shows up under the button in order to turned on or connecting after 5-10 seconds.
And when I click turn on bluetooth it only loops, turn on, turn on, but never turns on.
I seached a lot in the web and in XDA, there is nothing to solve the problem. My warranty is over and I switched my country. I have to fix it by myself.
I watched this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYz_RiuFVRk&feature=youtu.be
that French guy is solving the problem which I have. But everyone says that it solves the problem temporary. I have to solve it permanently.
IS THERE SOMEONE who know how to solve the problem, and what should be done? I can try anything to solve it.
please do not say that, do factory reset, full wipe, try another rom, flash radio.... etc. BECAUSE I have done all. I'm pretty sure that it is a hardware problem.
Lots of people have this problem and this topic can help them too. THANKS!
Sadly I had the same problem, and the only information I could find was to flash it back to stock and etc. you've already read that and done it (as have I). If it doesn't work under stock conditions, it is a hardware problem, meaning the wifi/bluetooth chip is broken (unless for some miracle it is a stubborn software problem that nobody has figured out yet, but don't count on that). This is the case with my atrix. There is nothing we can do besides sending it back for repair, or somehow repairing it ourselves since our warranties are long expired.
I'm looking to get a new phone, since wifi is absolutely critical for me (200mb/month data plan). I am deeply saddened that I will lose my Atrix, it was truly an amazing phone. It happened to break right before the upcoming ICS update. I'm torn between Atrix HD ($50 at Costco online with a lot of extras thrown in for free, plus free activation.) and the HTC one x (80 with less goodies, free activation) I would go SG3, but that is 200, and I'm leaning towards the htc 1x right now...
Thanks for your reply
Thank you so much for your answer. I guess it is a hardware problem too. But I have to fix it. In my country I dont know how to find someone who can fix it, because Motorola is not so common in here. Can I fix it by myself with someone's guidance? I'm planning to sell the phone after I fix it. I will be really appreciated if someone can help.

Has the information on finding if you have official warranty left and how to schedule a repair, about halfway down.

Hello. Well I've been googling my problem I just recent ran into for about a few weeks now and found no solution. Just found some guy suggesting the app, Softkeys in the play store. I don't mind using that app for now but sometime it gets annoying.
Problem is, the soft keys on the bottom (home, return, search, menu) isn't responding to any of my touches. I tried pressing it down, slightly touching it but still nothing. Stock Vibrant, not rooted.
Maybe it's a software issue? Anyone else having the problems I am? And if you are, is there a way to fix it? THANKS IN ADVANCE

When are where did you purchase your vibrant? I'm asking because if you bought it used, or you've had it for a long time...the digitizer may be going bad. I've read that captivate buttons not working is one of the early signs that your digitizer might be going bad.
Also, isn't the app "softkeys" that you are referring to only for root users? You said you weren't rooted though Maybe I'm wrong.

I bought it used, so called new from craigslist from a woman for a $120. It was a steal! Bout in the beginning of this year only. And yes, you are correct about the soft keys. It's for rooted phones only but I only use the home button just so that I can get back. Hopefully it's not the digitizer, I don't want to replace it. No scratches, nothing :/

this is so weird. i downloaded an app and all of sudden, the softkeys started acting all weird. the lights came off and on, one at a time then all at once. then it just started working!!! i guess it does have something to do with the digitizer. hopefully i dont have to replace it. :fingers-crossed:
