Hey guys,
I want to totally dis-associate with google, is there another app market you can recommend that would have all of the same apps, etc as google market but not be so intrusive and track you like google?

They don't track a lot, and what they track is for developers and it looks like this.

Yeah it's in dutch, but it's about the idea
try to delete an app from your account or change anything. i spoke for a long time with google developer on the phone and they strictly forbid it. no exceptions! if you switch phones alot and do not want to create a new gmail account for each new phone, you will understand what i mean.

If it's from your phone it's not installed, it's simply a value in their DB that IF you get a new device you can simply download that app again.
I don't want to be mean, but you sound like a paranoid parrot to me.
Or did you buy some freaky app which continues to haunt you?
Someone grab my foil hat!
i do ALOT of 'testing' and 'repairing' and i do not need google hammering me about apps everytime a swap an esn or a phone. i tried to clear market accounts to stop this and you can not! see my above post. you telling me as soon as you swap phones and sign in to market you do not get notices? it eats bandwidth and slows me down when testing. if you do not think google records everything in detail and it is associated with your specific esn/meid I.E. you, you are waaaaay too much a noob. they even say it on tv from crying out loud, lol. or just call them and use some social engineering and speak with a developer
cheers,

spc_hicks09, i'm not that paranoid anymore, when i was i would just goto a sprint store and 'test' a display unit and make a phone call from it then 'repair' another phone and therefore i appeared as if i was calling from a sprint display fone. lol that was years ago.
cheers,

because "googling apps" is also common to pirating apps. And even if you do it for FREE apps, its a waste of time.
you guys really need to get rid of your phones. I don't think they deserve this much paranoia from their owners. end their lives for gods sake.

Here is a little app I made to quickly pull up service menu's. Enjoy!
This app is free and opensource.
V2.1 Can now be downloaded in the android market! - 11-14-10
(If you have the original version downloaded from here installed you need to uninstall it first then download the one from the market.)
Now works on 2.2 Froyo!
*Updated 10-07-10 to v1.3 Made the buttons larger and changed the GPS to work with the new JI6 OTA update. Also note that at least for now I will only be updating this for the Samsung Vibrant OTA roms. It is getting to time consuming to keep changing the codes for all the different Galaxy S phones/roms.
*Updated 9-3-10 to v1.2 Changed the look to accommodate more buttons and added more options.
Menus in v2.1:
Service Mode
GPS Settings
Battery / Phone Info
Show IMEI
Factory Reset
LCD / Speaker Tests
GTalk Monitor
Power Button Settings
Wifi Mac Address
Bluetooth RF Test
Bluetooth Device Address
Proximity Sensor Test
Factory Format with Warning
Warning: Use this program at your own risk. I am not responsible for anything that may happen to your phone by using this.

Definitely a nice app, like the "Network" app on the Market. Whenever you have to do those *# codes it just is nice to have an app lay it out nicely for you.
Great app, no issues, just a suggestion.... personally, I'm not big on the font style lol but awesome job man, much appreciated.
Yeah the font does need some work but unfortunately I did not have to many choices at the time. I will work on that in future updates. Thanks for the suggestion and for trying it out.

Ok after some positive feedback that I have gotten from my app I wanted to touch on an off-topic subject. This app was my very first app and for those that have not figured it out it was made in google app inventor. As of right now google will not let me add it to the android market purely because it was made in app inventor. It seems everyone thinks that allowing app inventor dev's into the market would flood the market with useless fart/wallpaper/etc. programs. Isn't that the way it already is? All they are doing is blocking people with less coding knowledge, but with good useful ideas for apps out of the market. Was my program useless? It may not be top notch but most people I talked to found it useful (and judging by the 250 downloads and 0 complaints). Well thats my 2 cents. Let me know if you agree or not?
thank you..

I seem to be the only one who voted against letting app inventor apps on the market. For precisely the reason you mentioned. Your app seems to be very useful, but I think there will be a lot more useless apps. And if that turns out to be true, then there will be even more crap in the Market than what's already there.
What I'd like to see is a separate section for App Inventor apps and somehow have these apps "graduate" to the main market. I don't know how that can be accomplished. Number of votes and downloads may not be enough since that could be gamed. Maybe some University could do app rating like on the App Store - not for disallowing apps from being uploaded on the Market, but just for rating.
As an aside, great job with this app.

I do see what you are saying, but... I don't agree that it will make the problems with junk apps worse. Just like with java/dalvik you still have to learn a lot about app inventor to make a good app. I could make a ton of bs apps in the regular environment with very little knowledge of code also. I am not looking for a paycheck, I am just looking to make helpful apps. I don't have the time or money to learn java, especially since I am not planning on being a full-time application developer. App Inventor allows me to make some useful apps in less time because some parts are already figured out for you. I would be fine with a separate section in the market, but not allowing our apps into the market at all is bull. Why should some douche making apps that do nothing more than pull up a porn website or make farting sounds be allowed into the market, but I can't put my useful apps in?

I am guessing that wasn't a joke lol (read the thread from a pc and you will find why this is funny). The xda app doesn't show the downloads or the poll. It is not in the market. make the buttons bigger...4.0" of screen lets use it lol the buttons would be great for a g1...every one I show my Vibrant too loves the size....and no your not alone in making buttons too small for such a big screen....
not sure why/how this works but how come it seems to hang on the dial pad? can't you force it to return to the menu? without us hitting the return arrow..... -< sorry thats not what it looks like.... but hopefully you understand what I mean....
other than my minor tweaks I really love it...

How do I get the market updater re-enabled? Just change disable to enable? I tried that and never saw it update to the new market through several reboots. Only reason I ask is I want to post this on the infuse forum but want to make sure it can be undone. I WILL give credit where credit is due. Will this also turn off automatic updates of apps? Will it still check for app updates when you go into the market?

Why not just use another method? There are tons of apps for android to allow you to make free phone calls from the prime. There might be a way around doing it through browser. I never really messed with the Google one.
I wouldn't be waisting my time complaining here if there was other alternates. there is no other service out there that offers free VOIP phone calls through the US except Google's phone through Gmail.
Google Gmail phone is the first of its kind that I seen since the old phonefree.com and Net2Phone offering free VOIP calls, although those had limits, Google has no limits for US callers.
For the life of me I can't figure out why this is not available to a Google Android operating system. If they at the very least designed Chrome Beta like the Windows Chrome browser, the service would be available. But no!!! Chrome Beta and ICS Browser are like imitation browsers compared to the browsers on the Windows platform that these services are usable on.
Because carriers dont want you to be able to easily make voip calls they want you to buy more minutes from them. Androids sucess and profitability depends on the carriers selling phones running android.

The "gmail phone" you speak of is an extension of google voice. Sign up for a google voice number and login with your google id on the grooveip app.
Voila! free calls to US/Canada from anywhere in the world.
I live in Dubai and use it to call my GF in New york all the time.
Gee, it's too bad there are no alternatives that allow you to make free VOIP calls.
Something like SIPDroid sure would be handy. Well if you can't get SIPDroid on your Prime maybe there is another possibility (or 5).
Maybe if you'd ask about something rather than just gripe and moan, assuming that it can't be done, you'd get some assistance rather than a dose of sarcasm.
You might not want to try to set up a SIP provider though. It will take some research, some reading, and you might have to <gasp> Google for some information. Nevermind the possibility of searching on XDA for information.
People say I'm critical, but that's part of critical thinking. That's a skill you may want to try to develop.

You are asking support for installing pirated applications which would not be appreciated by anyone. The fact is that every version of the pirated app would have a different digital signature and won't replace the previous one unlike legally side loaded applications which carry the same signature.

There goes your answer. You're sideloading apps that's not from the playstore. You can't sideload apks if it doesn't come from the playstore since it has security checks such as that to avoid conflicts.

Yes, I am aware of that. My ISP has blocked Google Play however. I kinda have no other option. I dont support piracy but cant avoid it either.

I doubt that it'll help. My ISP is a cheap one and hasnt been either helpful or reliable recently.
But I'll give it a shot, just in case.

My phone got stolen a while ago out of my car, and I've since noticed it is still active on my google play account.
I don't really care about Finding the phone as it was a spare HTC Inspire running CM 10.1, all I used it for was Torque Pro in my car.
I just want it OFF my account, I've tried changing my password and looking on way to remove phones from google, but with no luck.
Anyone have any ideas on locking the phone out of my account???
Would have been helpful to the android phone manager was up before it got stolen so I could just lock the device.
Thanks in advance.
I would contact Google support. They helped me when my Incredible wouldn't fall off my account. It was returned as a manufacture defect warranty, so it was wiped once it got to HTC. I waited for a month before complaining to Google that it didn't get off my account.
Google responded within hours and took the device off my account.

You do understand he changed his password and it is still active? This happens as a glitch on Google's side and plan B will not work as his Google account has new credentials, and the thief probably already factory reset it band put on a new Google account, making plan B useless. I know, been through that.

PLan B says it's NOT compatible with any of my devices, as it only works on android 2.0-2.3 and the phone is running Jellybean..
As for the factory reset, it's still showing activity on my play account IE downloading apps.

So the thief has access to your Google account??? You need to change the password now, as in stop reading this and go and do it. Also, how is the phone still working? If you report it as stolen then the IMEI should be blocked and the phone would become useless.
I've changed the password says so in the first post.*Actually changed it twice*
But I've checked and changing the password does not log a phone out of google play or even Gmail, It just stops it from syncing.
Phone was off an Old AT&T contract which has since been closed and Google is showing it's got a T-mobile sim in it.
