so about 2 weks ago i did the ota update to android 3.2. ever since then my tab has been acting crazy. it wont recognize charging unless i restart it plugged in. it will say mtp connected plugged in or not to usb. if plugged in the wall i cant turn it off it just boots itself back up. im trying to root but i cant get this thing to do SH*T. ive re installed drivers multiple times and if i go to device manager it wont show tab. any help would be great guys and gals
im running the ota update 3.2 for a few weeks now, no issues really other then a few tweaks I did to make the device fasters, I would suggest doing a factory reset via the settings menu, backup yer data first!! as for the drivers, the fastest way to get them to work is to install kies for galaxy tab, google it...my galaxy tab 10.1 is actually rooted, overclocked, and running a custom kernel...so its pretty fast, but even with all stock I have not had the problems you are talking about.

Well now I'm rooted running ics rom and over clocked, but my tab for whatever reason doesn't recognize being plugged in USB or ac. It did this prior to root but after 3.2 update. Like right now it says 3% battery and I need to plug it up. Problem is that its currently plugged in to AC charger. I can get it to sometimes recognize the plug if I restart it multiple times with plug in. If I power off then plug in it automatically powers up.
I just restarted while plugged in AC and it now says battery at 100% lol this thing is nuts.
Sell it to a developer really cheap, do a warranty exchange, ODIN back to stock and repeat.... I assume drivers on the PC are not the issue.
Yeah the PC drivers are fine. I really don't want to sell it or have to do the warranty exchange. If I send it back I'll have to unroot. Not to mention not having it for a while.
^ then keep pulling your hair out
Honestly, I understand. Also hate when people send devices in for warranty stuff.... but your issue sounds legit. I would be concerned if there was an issue with the charging port long-term.
ok so they said they would fix it but im trying to unroot and i need the stock recovery i downloaded the zip files for dummies and tied to use odin3 to flash the stock recovery that cam in the zip but it keeps failing.
so i just kept restarting into download mode and it finally worked
now that i have it unrooted its on 3.1 i need it on 3.2 before i send it back. i tried to do the update from the tab but it did one update but not for android 3.2.
So Im probably gonna send my tab back tomorrow. Do you guys think they will give me crap because my tabs now on 3.1 when I complained about an issue after update to 3.2?

If the issue is still happening, then no because its a hardware issue. Root or 3.2 didnt break it as the ODIN proved. Silly question, but you did try a different cable? And unless 3.2 changed something, only pershoots kernel allows for actual USB charging, stock TWUX never supported it. Only accepted a 2amp 3.7v on the correct cable (power wires are switched or something).

no i didnt try another cable and for me to run odin i had to restart the tab many times and when its plugged in the wall sometimes it recognizes and sometimes not when i plug in usb it wont mount storage or even to kies like the tab will show connected but the computer wont recognize tried all usb ports. i figured they might ask how i got it to 3.1 after doing the update without rooting i put stock recovery back on also to completely go back stock

Definately sounds like a cable or 30 pin port issue. I will mention that Samsung has always been cheap with their cables on their phones anyway, but I haven't had an issue with the tabs. Onboard USB ports are the only ones I trust. Too many issues with front panel ports in the past with ODIN. I wouldn't worry about 3.1 vs 3.2 though. Of course you could always put 3.2 back on, I think there is an ODINable 3.2 around somewhere, but its been a while since I looked. Send it back, or try a different cable.

Got the tab back and rooted again with ics rom. Ended up replacing 30 pin port.

I'm having a some-what weird issue.
I flashed Simply Honey with the GB bootloaders some time ago and have since wanted to go back to MIUI on my brothers phone.
I ODIN'ed back to stock, JFD, and used ODIN to flash the Froyo bootloaders again. Now the phone seems to work fine, but when plugging in power sources, the phone cuts off.
Does anyone know why this may be?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Little update:
I have narrowed it down to not being the OS (ROM). I just installed Bionix 1.3 to change the file partition. When I plug the power source in (USB or AC) the phone cuts itself off.
Bootloaders?
You can flash any miui rom out there with gb bootloaders....i know they say must have froyo bootloaders but ive been flashing miui roms with gb bootloaders for several months....absolutely no issues......i dont really understand why they make a fuss over it
I have and usb issues are the main prob. My phone runs roms fine but will not be recognized by p.c. this may not be your immediate prob, mine started slow
and these glitches snowball, ive tried evey driver on the net and sdk hasnt heped, if anyone else has found a fix im all ears, miui related.
did you use odin flashable gb bootloaders from the dev, section, and flash back?
Quit looking at software issues... it sounds like your usb is shorting

thx your prbly right, my jtag will get me to download, usb cable wont, however there are no signs, usb cable never leaves the house, shiny. phone, kid gloves. hopin its software but this is a replacement phone, prbly had usb issues b4.
ooops jtag just boots, man its the phone, ebay or sg2, assurion wont give me a vib. and im waitin for the prime , ill stay on MIUI. keep my vibrant. Really unti cm9 is ported to MIUI first Itl come through rom manager, dont need my pc till then.
20 hrs later for no reason plugged in usb same bubble "not recognized', bloop "new hardware detected vibrant' didnt breath, directed wizard to sdk, browse and it installed, getting a new usb cable, thats still probly the prob, but damn,
Installed ICS 4.0.3 on my sgh-i717, a few days later it stopped charging and was unable to be recognized on any PC. I connected it to Kies via wifi, put the stock att rom back on it, reflashed though CWM, flashed counter and still nothing, set it back to samsung, got a new phone.
THen yesterday (2 days after i got my new phone) I flashed the new OnlyOne ICS rom 4.0.4 on my phone, then not even 3 hours later, my USB wasnt working again.......charges when it wants, but CANNOT be recognized by and PC....wtf?
Any ideas please!!! ?? THank you!
USB Ports
Just out of curiosity, have you tried a different usb port? Sometimes (and I think it's windows fault) I can use something on a certain port for months, then it will stop working, changing ports fixes it, then when / if that port stops working i'll switch back to the first port I started with... rinse / repeat.
Remember the old Nintendo Carts, when they would get dusty, they wouldnt work until you cleaned them? Could be the same thing, issue with the port, dust, or just going bad.
It could either be a driver issue / and or the actual port. Esp if it's an older usb 1.1 spec port.
I am running OnlyOne, and it's running fine here as far as computer seeing it / charging. I don't think you would get 2 phones that are defective back to back, Check your computer first, especially if it consistently will charge with the AC adapter and not the computer.

I hope you still have insurance on your phone and I would put it back to stock and see if that works out for you buddy.
If you have access to another phone , try to download seraphim a great from and put it on there and flash it. Inside of the newest seraphim there is a USB storage mount option which should fix your problem. I hope this will fix the problem

Doesn't sound like a ROM issue or one that requires a different ROM to be installed just because it contains a USB selection. To me it sounds like you have a bad cable or a few bad cables. I would try a new micro usb cable. I have had that issue happen a few times with quite a few phones. Cables that just don't click when inserted don't always make the proper contacts. And owning another cable can't hurt, just make sure it is a good brand.

I tried reverting back to a Gingergbread rom, tried re flashing a few different roms, no luck. Tried a few different usb plugs from different phones... how can you mess up a micro USB just from flashing... makes no sense.
Idk about the charging part, but i had the same issue with pc not recognizing my phone after i flashed new ROM on it and could not share files and what not i found a solution for that try this. Make sure phone is unpluggdd from pc. Go to settings>Wireless and network>USB utilities> connect storage to pc then it will tell u to plug your phone, do so. And phone should prompt you with the normal USB storage click it and your good to go.

So a little history, I flashed my vibrant from Bionix v1.3.1 (fishmanmod) to ICS and started to have a lot of troubles with random restarts and battery issues. Prior to ICS everything was perfect. I've tried so many different versions of ICS and all of them have resulted in random shut downs. The most recent one I tried was Slim ICS. After having such bad luck with ICS roms I decided to go back to Bionix. However my phone now cannot be recognized by my computer which was weird because it did when I flashed it back to stock to install ICS cleanly. I tried various different drivers, uninstalled, reinstalled kies, almost everything I thought of. So then I was like okay, I'll just go back to a nandroid backup of Bionix. Stupid idea, should have read up more on that as it softbricked my phone. Now I'm stuck with a phone that stays on the Vibrant screen. I can get it into download mode with holding vol+ and power but that is no use because windows keeps saying it cannot recognize my device. I can't get it to recovery mode either to flash any roms I have on the phone. It might be a hardware issue because my mothers vibrant gets detected with the same drivers but just a couple of days ago I flashed my phone back to stock with odin which really confuses me. Does anyone have any ideas I could do? Is there a way to get into recovery mode to flash different roms? Is there a manual way of installing the drivers or surefire way of knowing if the vibrant has hardware issues?
Also when I flashed back to stock with odin it did take a good hour of installing and reinstalling drivers for my computer to recognize it in download mode. I've tried 3 different cables, one by samsung and the other two are third party. All these cables work on my mother's vibrant. I've also tried a different computer as well, no luck.
Try deleting ALL USB drivers from your PC and plug in the phone. It should automatically search and download drivers. If that doesn't work then its most likely something to do with the USB cable. I recently soft bricked my vibrant too and my USB would not work at all but it worked fine on a friends phone(weird). So I bought a new one from T-Mobile themselves and it worked! I was really close to believing I had a bad USB port on my phone,if a new cable doesn't work that could be the issue for you. There are a few places online that will replace your USB port on the phone for around 40 bucks, a new USB cable from T-Mobile will cost around $15.
PS: You can search ADB reboot recovery but this will not work unless you can connect to the PC. I personally would buy a new cable from T-Mobile just to know if its a bad USB port on your phone.

Yeah I've read in another post about how someone bought a replacement cable from T-Mobile which fixed the problem. I find it weird how the stock samsung cable does not work yet the T-Mobile cable did. What makes the 15 dollar T-Mobile cable better? I'll definitely give it a shot though.

I'm not sure what makes it better to be honest, it's just one of those things where their cables work better. It is most definitely more durable than the stock cable that came with my phone. If you have a problem with Tmobile's USB cable not working then you most likely have a bad port on your phone(happens more than you might think). I feel like a new cable will solve your problem tho, let us know if it works!

So I bought the T-Mobile universal data cable in store for 12.99 and turns out it did not work. That's okay, they told me I could return in within 30 days to get a full refund. Now my only hope is to send it to someone who could repair it.
The phone can go into download mode, so hopefully once this usb port gets fixed I can finally get into odin. Thanks iTz KeeFy for the suggestion to try a different cable.

I have a Fascinate that no longer connects to USB. It's a physical port problem. My company had a spare, so I've been able to swap it out and restore all of my apps/data to the other Fascinate, and I'm back up and running on AOKP M6. I'd like to try to get what is now 'the new spare' (the one with the bad USB port) back to the latest stock build.
Sooooo.....
I can't connect the phone to a PC with USB to get into Odin. If I could, I would have had it reverted in a couple of minutes. To be fair, if I could, I wouldn't have actually needed to swap the phone in the first place. I've searched as much as I can, and haven't been able to find if there's a way to flash through recovery from an MTD-based ROM back to stock EH03. Anyone know if this is even possible?
And to cover any of the 'are you sure the USB port is bad' questions, the phone was tested, along with 2 other Fascinates, side-by-side on the same ROM version, with 7 different USB cables (3 official 'Samsung' cables) and 4 different computers. The other two connected fine in both mass storage mode while booted into the ROM and in download mode on each of the PC's and with each cable. This particular one would not detect no matter what. Strange thing is, it charges just fine.
I think you might be pooched and have to jiggle it or whatever to see if you can get it to take, although you have most likely tried that. If you have to return the phone back to them and you don't want them to know you flashed the rims, you might just boot loop the phone so it only shows the Samsung logo and then they might not be able to find out.

Actually, boot looping is my "point of no return". And yes, I even tried holding the USB cable halfway in while facing a northeasterly direction and simultaneously having a medieval wizard cast enchantments on it, still didn't work. I had high hopes, too.
The closest you will get is a ROM called Superclean3, but you might brick your phone flashing from BML to MTD.
My I777 has been acting up lately, and now I'm out of options and wondering what my next move should be.
For several days when I'd connect the phone to the PC via USB, it started saying "this device can perform faster when on a USB 2.0 port..." - which, my ports ARE 2.0.. transfers were taking forever. Now, anytime I plug it in it simply says "USB Device not recognized" - I've tried the OEM cable, the plethora of other cables, 4 different PC's... *ALL* have the same result.
My concern is with a custom ROM on it and no way to get any PC to recognize the phone to get it back to root - how should I proceed from here for warranty purposes? I've only had it since March - just wondering what's gonna happen at this point - or is this even fixable? All the threads I've seen say it needs replaced... but with no way to unroot, etc., I'm just unsure how this is gonna go.
Thanks for any advice.

Yeah, I sure did - nothing. Even in recovery, it won't "mount" usb there either.
Samsung's have a crappy USB port. It fails sometimes. You have a hard time charging at all?
But like I stated above, even without a computer connection you can get Mobile Odin and flash back to stock, as long as your rooted.
I'm having this same issue. I just got the phone earlier this week and I am unable to get bit connected to my pc to root or Odin. I have installed and uninstalled Kies multiple times on two different computers, tries different ports, and checked if the cable worked by using another phone (PC recognized without an issue). I get the USB not recognized or the 2.0 USB message. If I enable debugging, I can connect regularly and transfer files through windows explorer. But if I use USB debugging off, then nothing will work. I've tried using odin and it will just get stuck at setup connection or cache.img and then I'd have to pull the device. I've tries updating through Kies when it shows the USB 2.0 message but once the S2 hits download mode then the computer stops recognizing it. I have also tried installing the i777 drovers on the Samsung website and its still a no go. Does anyone know how to fix this? Its not rooted so mobile Odin won't help me now.

It is the OEM cable that came with my Samsung Infuse. It worked with the T989 3 days ago and it's not working with my i777. Its strange because I tried it with my infuse again and I am able to Odin just fine. Could it really be an issue with my USB or will it be a PCB issue? I would rather or not disassemble my phone if it is a PCB issue. Should be able to do a warranty exchange though.

I hate to break it to you brother but it's damn near impossible to determine what the actual culprit could be, your best best is to try each and every single different thing I've listed. The end result being changing the PCB which one, isn't that hard, and two, is very cheap the only problem is waiting for the board to come in the mail.

I have the same problem so now I have to get mine changed too.
I've soft bricked my phone 2 times with this problem and it takes hours to get Odin to pick up my phone.
Swap the faulty chip and you should be good.

Its strange because when I enable USB debugging, I can get a "USB connection" on the phone and data transfers fine. But when I turn it off, I get a "MTP connection" and sometimes it'll connect (5% of the time) and allow me to transfer data. But when lies tries to update when that mtp connection is active, it'll hang when the phone goes into download mode. Did you have this same issue?

I f you're able to transfer files via mass storage with USB debugging enabled then you can (most likely) rule out hardware failure on your phone.
If anything this sounds like a driver issue on the cpmputer. Are you running windows? If so remove and reinstall the drivers for your phone.
Still think its hardware.
I can connect 1/100 of the times I'm plugged into a computer. Its not a driver issue because my girlfriend has an i777 as well and no problems for her connecting at all.
Its not ROM related because I have this problem with all ROMs.

Does that apply to ums as well? From his description he can connect in ums just fine. Its only mtp that's giving him problems. In his case, with the problem only being in one connection mode, it leads me to think drivers. In your case, tested against another s2 I'd say hardware.
Just tried using a Motorola cable and a third PC and my chances of connection increased to about 15-20%. Kies and Odin failed on me a few times just like I had described before. But eventually Odin was able to flash okay. Finally on ICS on my i777! I think I'll stay on stock since I'd rather not go USB and PC hunting to flash stock if anything goes wrong.
