Hmm. That sucks. Flash image gui always messes up my recovery. Idk why.

Which recovery are you using?
I always flash ROMS/Kernels without a PC and i m on hboot 1.50 .....But you still need flash image GUI. It worked fine for me (never broke the recovery). Just dont flash 2.3.3 kernels on 2.3.4 ROM.
I think i should make a guide......but if anything goes wrong you will need a PC.
But till now everything is fine for me.

Do you have the latest version of "flash Image GUI" ? Bc that could mean a great deal when it comes to flashing. I currently have the latest on and never had an issue. I did once before flash w/ v3 and v1 and it did work but did have some glitches ( depending on handset) but I would search the forum if you don't have it and if you can't find it I can upload the latest one for you and then you can go from there... I know it's not much but just trying to help the best way I know how...

You have to do it manually on 1.5

official HBOOT 1.01 with S-OFF.
looks great. have u used xtc clip.
i dont know if this splash image works with u.
http://alpharev.nl/
there at the bottom of the page, there are 3 splash screen images for different screen resolutions. dont know how to do that since im on unrootable froyo.
i expect just by having S-OFF, u cannot change the splash screen. u need to have root access and have installed custom recovery.
find it out clearly before going ahead.
Hi there,
I found this link in Ben's signature http://spla****.dokyou.eu/ maybe it might help.

Hey, I actually misled you a bit earlier. You can't do it even with the fastboot tool with just s-off, because though its s-off, the bootloader doesn't support fastboot commands. For that, you need AlphaRev's patched HBOOT.
Oh, and you don't need root/custom recovery. Splash1 has nothing to do with the ROM.

It can be installed as long as you have root. If you want, come on IRC - freenode, channel #alpharev - and ask for the bootloader. You should be able to flash it easily since you have s-off. (You could brick your phone if you do it wrong so be careful)

Amon Ra Styled recovery

I am looking to buy an E3D. Just a few days ago a guy over on the OG Evo made a recovery just like the Amon Ra one. I don't know how many of you have used it, but I like it over the clockwork one, just my personal opinion. I wanted to see if anyone else would like to have it. He said he could make one for us, but he needed some help from an E3D user. Since I don't have one now, I can't help out. Just wanted to see if someone else could. Check this post out and this is his thread. If you are interested let him know. There are some screen shots near the end of the thread.
I used amon on my OG evo and loved it. Personally, I use TWRP on my Evo 3D and don't think it is significantly different from amon. If you like amon, you'll probably feel very at ease with TWRP.
Once you go TWRP you'll never go back

TWRP is so much better than either Amon Ra or Clockwork. my favorite feature is selecting the zips you want and having it flash them all and reboot all in one shot. Try that with Amon Ra.
TWRP for life!
Ok cool, I was researching recoveries and didn't find that for some reason. All I found was clockwork. I hope to make the switch soon to a 3D.

TWRP for the EVO 4G. This way you can play around with it and see if you like it.

I used amon for my OG EVO, been using TWRP since rooting my 3D and it's great.
As for his requests of a recovery.img and a tester, all the stock files are available in the development section and there's never a shortage of testers around here.

If you use the hboot1.5 guide youll be fine...Flashing is the same as before with the exception of kernels and kernel based roms...Even then the process for flashing takes seconds..it really is easy to use...
From what I have read, you have to flash a rom and then a custom kernel, even if the rom has one. Something about it being protected and won't take if just the rom was flashed. I am still reading before I start the process. I normally run a custom kernel instead of the stock one that comes with a rom anyways.

Sorry to say but you must not be on HBOOT1.5 AND S-ON like anyone with the flashing issues will be....
all you have to do if you are HTC UNLOCKED AND ROOTED IS and USB DEBUGGING IS ON... as follow's
1. unzip this RAR file which I have just now uploaded to your desktop
[I say there cause I will be doing commands and if you change the location you will have to do different ones...]
(most of the files I got off of a help for 1.5 flashing I DID replace CWR with TWRP)
2. if you have not ever installed the HTC EVO 3D driver's I left them in the folder please install it now.... if you have them installed SKIP THIS!
3. click start run CMD,then "cd Desktop\evo" then
"adb reboot bootloader" wait for HBOOT SCREEN IT IS WHITE...then,
"fastboot flash recovery twrp.img" wait for completion then FYI only need to do this once! then
"fastboot boot twrp.img"
you are now in custom recovery TWRP and you can flash ANY ROM & or KERNEL and it will flash just fine but you will always have to repeat these commands anytime you want to flash a kernel and I suggest the same for roms since 99% of them have custom kernels. don't depend on your reboot to recovery OPTION IT STILL WILL NOT WORK U NEED TO USE THESE COMMANDS HBOOT1.5 USERS!
this is the repeatable commands that are to be done in command prompt
cd Desktop\evo
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot boot twrp.img
done!
suggestion is to do the commands once then leave the CMD prompt window open since you can just go up and down on the keyboard key to rekey it over and over again...
if this has helped you please leave a Thanks! also this folder is preset up so ADB doesn't need to be fully working on your pc for it to work since ADB IS INCLUDED.
enjoy got any questions shoot me a pm if i don't reply back here... or do both if your anxious.
So from what I read, even if I can manually go into recovery (bootloader then select recovery or just reboot into recovery) without the commands, it still won't flash correctly? You have to do the commands listed above no matter what? If so o'well, it makes the process a lil bit longer than normal and makes me be tethered to my desktop when I do this process, but hey it's better than not being able to run anything period.

[Q] HBoot wont load IMG

Evo 3D
HBoot 1.5
Aright so i rooted a few days ago and i have had some problems with the phone... mainly that it will reboot randomly and i have to take the battery out to get it to start back up again. I have tried a few ROMs and Kernels but nothing seems to of worked. Now after all of it my WiFi/4G does not work. Well i tried putting the PG86IMG.zip in my SD card root and when i go into HBoot it picks the file up but it never gets past Parsing.... It checks then says Parsing and goes back to HBoot
A little help would be much appreciated
Hey from the sounds of your issue sounds like a bad kernel flash is causing your wifi and 3g issue along with the random reboots and did you wipe right when you flashed another rom?
Also the PC img your using it's not called PG86IMG.zip.zip alot of people do that on accident and that will cause issues.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe you can't flash a PG86IMG.ZIP with s-on and if you have hboot 1.50 there's no s-off method for now.
You need to flash roms or kernel using the adb fastboot method.

I think that is true lol. He kinda lost me there on the post. I know he has the latest Hboot so you can't flash a Zip file which your right about.
how exactaly do i return it to stock then if i cant flash the zip from hboot?
and sorry i didnt really know how to explain it but any suggestions on which kernel to use? i cant seem to find one that doesnt break the wifi or make my phone reboot if it is left alone for too long

Well maybe he can try the flash image GUI app and try to reflash the kernel from the rom he installed.
Flash image gui

[Q] Help Evo trashed

My Evo has been completely trashed and I have no clue what to do.
I have hboot 1.19 s-on and I did the HTCdev unlock, and I rooted it and have the latest version TWRP (i think 2.3.something) with SuperSU installed. I tried to flash a ROM that was supposed to be compatible with with I had but i guess not. Everything was going great but I was stuck on the CM boot screen. After about 30 min of it sitting in that screen I figured something was wrong so i reset it and went back into TWRP. Someone told me to download MeanRom and flash that because its kernel and rom would fix everything. Here's where things get weird. I download MeanRom to my computer and mount my phone in TWRP to move the file over to the phone and when i went to factory reset before flashing it it kept saying unable to mount SD card and Internal Storage. I tried to do a restore my phone to an old back up and that wouldnt even work. So I wipe both caches and try to flash MeanRom anyway. i got a failed error and my phone shut off. Now my phone will only go into the Fastboot thing on the white screen and when i try to go into recovery, it just stays on the TWRP loading screen, not even letting me into the recovery program.
Is there anyway to fix this? My best buy insurance has expired because i missed 3 payments since I'm away at school and not working a whole bunch. So my whole smash it to pieces and get a new one solution is no longer an option.
I'm on a mac by the way so is there something I can enter into terminal to fix this? I don't care about losing any files or anything I'll do whatever I have to, to fix this.
Thanks in advance
- Josh
Read om4's guide don't panic...hboot 119 s-on you have to flash kernels separately.

I ran into the same problem. Word for word, really. I use a Mac, too. I went through HTCdev unlock, tried to flash a CM10 nightly and ran into a boot loop. No matter what I did, it was stuck. I couldn't restore to a nandroid backup because internal storage wouldn't mount. Couldn't do anything. All I had access to was bootloader and TWRP recovery.
I don't know the specifics of how this fixed it (I'm nothing close to a developer), but this is what I did to get out of it. You will need access to a Windows machine onto which you can download things.
1) If you still have access to fastboot, unroot your phone to stock. Completely stock.
2) Use DirtyRacun S-OFF (you'll need a Windows computer for this). Go through the whole process.
3) Re-root.
Nothing I tried fixed it until I started fresh. I couldn't tell you how it worked, but if you're desperate you really have nothing to lose but a little bit of time by doing the same thing I did.
Hope you get this figured out.

U have to use the cmd window on your windows computer. I did it with mine before I ran dirty racun. It is a simple command but u have to be in the right directory ind the cmd line. Go through and look at the dirty racun guide and it tells u how to re-lock word for word I believe.

What's funny is that all you had to do with s-on is flash the boot.IMG from the ROM via fastboot, just like the first reply said to.
You're doing more work right now than you needed to.
I realize this is a little late, but if you're still having trouble and you're still s-on, go read om4's guide, or get s-off.
If you want to stick with s-on, you will have to fastboot flash the boot.IMG files from the ROM manually.

I just did the RUU on my phone and its finally back up and running! What a relief!!!

No. You helped me soooooo much! I was literally about to sell my phone for parts or something because everything went wrong that could go wrong and on top of that I couldn't find anything at all on how to fix it. I just did what you said and my phone is fixed! I want to go s-off now but dirtyracun doesn't support windows 7 with 64 bit, it only supports windows 7 with 32bit which I don't have access to. So i'm trying to find another way that is reliable to go S-OFF. It seems like S-OFF is the way to go and it makes everything easier.
If I cant find out how to go S-OFF with the windows 7 64 bit computer, then I guess i'll go S-on HTCdev unlock again and hopefully figure out how to manually flash the ROM or whatever it is that you do with S-ON.

There is an app in the market called Flash Image GUI to use it all you have to do is click on browse in the app search where ever you downloaded your Rom or kernel select it and it will extract and flash the boot.IMG for you. So if you are s on and wanna flash a aosp Rom you can first flash the kernel using the app then it gives you the option to boot directly in to recovery then install as usual wipe system ,data, both caches and flash your Rom that you extracted the kernel from. You can also just flash just a kernel if you want to OC.

Okay so here's whats happens for me.
When i go bigdaddy's way: I put the MeanRom zip on my phone from my computer (MeanRom v64 or what ever the latest one is) I factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvic chache, and then go to install find the app and swipe to flash.. everything seems fine until i get an error and fail. It also says there is no MD5 file when i do this.
When I go dandan's way: I have the MeanRom zip on my phone (i've tried this with v64 *or whatever the latest one is* and v34) then i go into flash image GUI and go through finding it and everything. Then i get an error right above the Flash Image button saying "zip file must contain only one of the following: recovery.img, zimage, or a type of boot.img!" On my computer I unzipped the file and looked inside and all I see the boot.img and some folders but no recover or zimage so i dont know what it is talking about.
I really dont want to go through the processes of unrooting and relocking my phone again so i want to do this right. Any help from here on out would be greatly appreciated!
If someone could give me a step by step to follow or something for putting the Latest version of MeanRom on my phone that would be great!! I think i read somewhere that you have to put on the old version of MeanRom first. If that is so, could you also include how i would go about updating from the old version to the new one?
(If you're going to help me please make sure your method supports the HTC EVO 4G LTE on hBoot 1.19 Software v. 2.13.651.1 71ORD HTCdev Unlocked and Rooted with SuperSU and TWRP. (GooManager, and Flash Image GUI are installed to)
I dont know if this matters but it also says under Kernel Version:
3.0.8-01680-gb6402b4
[email protected] #1
SMP PREEMPT
Other info:
Baseband v: 1.12.11.0809
Android Version: 4.04
HTC Sense: 4.1
HTC SDK API level: 4.24
I know this post is really long and I probably put waaayyy more information then I actually needed to but I just want to be safe. It seems like everything I try for putting any Roms on my phone goes wrong with an error or failed message and I really want to do this.

[Q] Rezound Does Not Boot - Can Only Access Bootloader

[SOLVED - See Post #9]
Hey everyone,
So, I have some experience with rooting/ROMs, bootloaders and recoveries, all specifically on my HTC Droid Incredible (Yep, the original). But that's long in the tooth these days, and getting rather difficult to stand the slower speeds and all.
I decided to pick up a used phone, in this case an HTC Rezound, to repair and serve as my default. Cracked digitizer, but that's an easy fix, and it works for the moment which is all that matters. Turns out there was one more problem with it - it doesn't boot Android. It gets stuck in a bootloop if you allow it to boot, but it does go to hboot if you boot it up and hold the VOL down key, as expected. I cannot boot into recovery.
I tried flashing the 4.03.605.2 RUU from AndroidPolice - same problem. So, I'm not sure where the issue lies. I'd like to start by just getting the phone back to stock, and booting into Android if anyone can help me. I should be able to do everything properly from there.
I'm not entirely certain if HBOOT is stock - it shows the Android on the skateboard at the bottom - I'm not sure if that's a custom HBOOT or not, and I can't seem to find any specific reference to it. It is LOCKED with S-ON, so, I've been assuming that it hasn't been tampered with too deeply, someone just hosed an upgrade and I'm not sure how to go about getting it fixed.
Any help is deeply appreciated.

You have to fastboot oem rebootRUU first
then fastboot flash zip PH98IMG.zip
you may have to flash the zip twice.

This might be able to help you too. You have adb and fastboot on your computer right?

Yes, I do. Thank you, I'll check that out!
Like I was saying, I knew it wasn't bricked, I just didn't know how to go about doing it. I think I get where I need to go with that.

Flash a recovery in a zip right after you finish the ruu using the same method (no need for reboot).
To get root again you might want this: downloads.noshufou.netdna-cdn.com/superuser/Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip

Ok, no such luck. I did the RUU flash and then tried rebooting, no go, tried reflashing from my SD after that, nothing. I'm not sure what to do now. :/
Update
Small update - I did the HTC bootloader unlock and successfully got Amon Ra flashed onto it. Now working on getting Android to boot. *sigh* This thing is a serious pain in the...
If I get it to work, I'll be sacrificing a ram, or at least some RAM. :fingers-crossed:
Still, I'm open to any suggestions or help anyone can offer. Thank you!
I would make a nandroid now and keep it as is for a bit just to make sure it functions okay.
Then if all is good flash a ROM!
I'm running ViperRez and it's very good. Doesn't seem to stream bluetooth media but all else is good. Very nice daily driver. There might be an update coming which will hopefully fix the bt steaming.

Heh, that would be doing things the SMART way. I'm going to do the unofficial CM9 which has BT streaming media, but not phone - sadly, something I'm much more interested in. I am wondering if I can't get the stock ICS or JB on there and just stick with that, since I do like using my BT headset. But since I've had no luck so far getting that to go on there, I think I'll take my chances with CM9 first, and go from there.
If I get that, I'll back it up thoroughly and then try my hand at putting the stock 4.03 on instead.
Solved!
Ok, so, I got CM9 booted!
The short of what I did was the following steps:
1) HTC Dev Bootloader Unlock
2) Installed Amon Ra
3) Installed CM9 using the S-ON instructions found at the site below - I can't link yet, so forgive me.
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1885553
4) Letting the bootloader flash the Kernel failed, so I had to do it manually by following the instructions for S-ON below in case of a parsing failure:
Code:
http://www.androidauthority.com/rezound-android-4-0-4-ics-cyanogenmod-9-cm9-rom-unofficial-120696/
5) Boot and done!

Oh! I misread your last post above mine and thought you had gotten it back to stock.
Your issue was exactly what you figured out, that when you are s-on you need to flash the kernel separately after flashing a ROM or else you'll get stuck. If you s-off that will be automated but s-off makes it easier to brick your phone. I don't flash often so I'm staying s-on.
Sorry I misread your post, I could've let you know about that.
