HTC is looking to adapt EVERY SINGLE FREAKING SMARTPHONE of theirs with a "premium unibody design". Honestly they must be doing a horrible job (or less likely keeping our legacy alive) because they all seem ugly to me.
I was also being a total **** at Future Shop the other day and went in with very sharp nails. The Desire HD scratched with so much ease, an unbelievable amount of ease, like I'm trying to hug my girlfriend with super sharp nails ease. Packing those same nails,
I headed over to the Wildfire S. Same problem.
The Legend however, stayed alive with very unnoticable scratches using the same rabid scratching force. OMGILUVMYPHONE<3

The look is still one of the best imo, I'll be using it until my contract expires (can upgrade in a year), unless they come out with something that has the same look/feel and more power (like Kal El).
Yes HTC legend is the best looking device.
I never found it a real attractive device (based on pictures) until I won it. I really love the design of the part above this "lump" on the bottom of the device (the part where the trackball is on). In my opinion the "lump" is too big and the trackball worthless, I never use it.
Well, I bought the Legend cuz of the looks. The Desire was basically the same price but the UniBody design got my attention. I don't regret my decision, and I'm still thinking that the Legend is one of the most beautiful smartphones till date.

I disagree with the screen being scratch resistant, ive had mine 2 months and its scratched to hell! my hero i had from the release date on orange uk and it still hasn't got a single scratch on it..In my opinion the Hero looks the best out of them all!
HTC has many beautiful phones, Legend is definately one of the prettiest. The unibody design captured my eye the moment I first saw it!
Maybe you have a different screen because mine only scratched when it slamed on the ground. Only one small scratch and i carry it around in my pocket all the time without a screen protector

Well the subject says it all. I got my TB about two weeks ago from Asurion. I put a screen protector and I noticed this little bubble in the middle of the screen. I first thought it was the screen protector and a little air bubble. But when I gently touch it, it like disorients that part of the screen a little and if I touch the screen near that area, a little disorientation happens where or around that annoying bubble. Could it be the screen protector? Or is it that Asurion sent me a not so good refurbished phone? if so will they replace it without hassle? :/

Keep in mind you can only make 2 claims in a 12 month period.
You could only make 2 claims but if they send you a bad phone It's not your fault so it doesn't count as a 2nd phone. I gotten up to 3 bad phones from them (the hd2) remember most of those phones are refurbished & you only have about 15days to let them know they send you a bad phone.

this Thunderbolt has been Infected with a Virus for all Eternity
I just found this interesting... I originally had HW001 with craptastic speaker and a cheaper feel to it, that also overheated... I had Sprint replace it with a brand-new handset which was HW003. This one felt even cheaper and the speaker was the same. I had given up hope, because HTC typically has poorer build quality than most of the competition.
Well my cat knocked the phone off of the coffee table and broke the screen, and Assurian sent me a HW002 refurb... this thing is tight, it runs cool, and sure enough, the speaker is as loud as my Evo 4G was. I don't understand it. Perhaps when they refurbished the device, they replaced the speaker/audio amp? It's ridiculously-loud, I'm telling you. I can hear music over the shower now... I never miss a notification anymore. Also the vibrator motor is MUCH stronger. I don't get how there can be so many variations on build quality, but again, it's HTC.
Just thought I'd throw this out there in case anyone was frustrated and had given up hope. I dealt with that craptastic 003 hw for almost a year... I'm pretty pissed that I didn't push back harder, earlier. Oh well, you live and learn.
Also, audio is MUCH louder through the headphones, which makes me think the audio amplifier was replaced with a better unit when refurbished. It can get to the point where it actually distorts when I plug it into my car, and I have to turn it down on the phone side. Previously, it never got loud enough. This was a problem with my Logitech speaker dock, that couldn't compensate for the low source volume. Now it's crazy-loud as well.
Is the EVO known for overheating? My original Sprint EVO felt really hot one day
then kept rebooting; eventually i had to get it replaced. This one still gets hot but no looping reboots now.

Both my evo 3d and 4G over heats.
I had a refurb sent to me by asurion that had a better quality screen with more natural colors and rhe vibration motor was "smoother" and a lot quieter , but the phone was riddled with problems... Blue tint under glass, proximity sensor broken, capacitive lights kept lit when screen was off....
So asurion replaced that one too and its just like the one you described, but the vibration isbjust TOO loud now! I dont like it at all. Build quality overall is superb tho.
What does the sticker say on the back? This second replacement I'm using has a white sticker that says "Remanufactured in Indonesia" whereas my first replacement had a regular dark gray sticker like the retail one.

This made me LOL. Also listening to music on your phone in the shower and allowing the humid are to get all over and inside the handset will ruin it. There's your problem.

I've been doing that since Launch day with my Evo 3D and Evo 4G. Never had a problem with it because of that. My phones never had problems. Only a tilted screen and lame speaker on the 3D which I recently found out about.
Although it may not have affected your phone, generally speaking... humid air is bad.
I'm a EE major, and circuits are pretty damn sensitive. Exposing them to "wet" air is never good/common sense. It's the same reason why you shouldn't smoke in your computer room, because cigarettes create "wet" air (cigarette dust).

Seriously though, if you think HTC has poor build quality, try holding and using a samsung device.

Lmao samsung has issues
I've never had hardware issues with a samsung phone. My Evo 3d had a touch screen failure, the power button has a deformed nub under it which makes it not work well, has light bleed, weak vibration issues, and the headphone jack acts odd bc it thinks i plugged in a headset and executes random commands like dialing numbers. It gets hot if I charge and use the phone at the same time but thats acceptable to me bc its kinda powerful

Each phone has flaws.. Samsung is slow when it comes to updates and fixes.. HTC is known for dust under the glass among other things... But both do good if you get lucky and find a good one thats not a bad lemon..
The only issue I've personally had with HTC was the ridiculous light leakage several of my OG Evo's had. But the 3D I was sent as a replacement has been perfect though!
It seems that HTC has taken all this into account with the one x ..the build quality looks terrific, ppl are saying it's the best smartphone screen they have seen and most of all to Me yhr camera has been greatly improved ..its the HTC I've been waiting for ..I still think my 3d is a speedy phone can't imagine what the krait evo lte will be like

Well, the Evo LTE wasn't released yet so they could have lowered the build quality to fit the Evo style.
/joking
IMO the evo is superior to the one x in a couple ways ..the SD card slot is huge and also the larger battery is a welcome addition. I'm very excited about this one..I think the e3d is a good device and it got slammed in most reviews the one x (evo) looks like a beast ..love the screen quality. So tired of hearing how superior samoled is ..ppl actually are saying it bests the gnex pentile display
I partially agree with this.
My refurb has a perfectly aligned screen, but the thin bezel that separates the glass from the plastic is warped. I suppose it's a decent tradeoff. At least now I can look at my screen and not be able to instantly tell that it is a few mm off. The 3D slider is still loose and irritating though.

I''ve also never seen one with dust under the screen. It implies perhaps something isn't bonded correctly on the exterior. Which also would explain the buzzing when it vibrates

I'm 100% sure the weird vibrating is coming from the sim card slot/tray within the phone. It's some sort of locking mechanism, seems normal though.
Dust under screen - never heard of it before on 1x+.
Capacitive backlight bleed - mine has it too but it's hardly noticeable and you'll see it only in very very dark areas. Took me a week to realize my phone has it.
Sim tray buzzing noise - this is probably related - when shaking my phone in a certain way, I hear very faint rattling.
I think the dust under screen alone is enough to get you motivated to have the phone replaced. The other two issues, I personally can live with it.

The thing is the bleed is on the outside of the capacutive buttons. In between the screen seal I can see light, I think it'd the curvature of the glass. Do all do this?

Well since I have a return period at AT&T I think I'm just going to return it.
There are three specks of dust (medium sized) under the screen, not a big deal but that's annoying.
There's a gap that collects dust between the SEAL and the GLASS DISPLAY. Not just the edge, it makes contact with the display and is loose, the seal is not connected properly.
There is a rattling when phone vibrates which is the sim card tray I believe.
And finally that capacitive backlight button bleed, annoys the heck outta me.
So I'll be returning it tomorrow to get a replacement. Wish me luck guys.
Quick update, went and exchanged and got home, and noticed the vibration was fixed, dust was fine but guess what!? There's still a gap in the seal, and I know it's a gap because when I push the whole screen down against the rubber seal the light disappears! Just great HTC, guess I'm going back for my third tomorrow!

Anybody else have this light bleed or is this just luck of the draw?
Just to give this thread some closure. I walked into the AT&T store told the guy about this and he kind of acted like the whole ordeal was stupid, replied with I can't see it and since it's your second repair you must go through the AT&T global store and call this number yadda yadda. I didn't want to be without a phone and was afraid of the same problem once again. So I traded the HTC One X+ in for the SGS3. So long story short, this thing has an amazing build quality and surprisingly feels much sturdier than the One X+. The only thing it lacks is where the processor is and how fast it goes. Thanks though guys, sorry for leaving you! Hope all goes well and HTC gets all of these problems sorted out!
Well since you have the S3 make sure to try Task&ktoons AOKP rom. Smooth as butter its all I ever ran on my s2 and s3
Sorry to hear about your issues though

FA34D, slight overhang on the top right and bottom right, otherwise quite perfect. Not sure where the light leaks out of, but I don't notice any leakage; nothing as bad as the capacitive buttons leaking through to the screen on my Amaze.
Edit: had the wrong corners identified.
I've got overhang on top left, but it's so minor to me I don't care. Plus with the fact that a lot of other people are reporting the same makes me feel better. Everything else on this phone is PERFECT, and I'm OCD about this stuff. :good:

FA34EW absolutely no overhang of gaps. Second one I ordered for my wife did so I sent it back. Waiting for it to come back.

My FA34D had plastic that looked shoddy, large gaps between plastic and top speaker cover piece on both ends, and a gash in the speaker aluminium on the botton right. Disappointed; It's going back. Can't comment on speaker/glass since I have not taken the plastic off yet.

Ok I love all the android phones, last year I purchased almost all the top high end phones like HTC one x, x+, GS2, 3, Nexus 4 and so on. I get tired from the phones onece I play with all the roms, so I sell them on Craigslist for little cheaper(I take the loss) and add money and buy a new phone. I own the GS3 for almost 6 months, this is the only phone I kept for that long and still love it. So when I saw what GS4 was like and the HTC I decided to get the htc one because the GS4 looked like GS3s
Anyway I tought the HD screen is going ro be a big deal and the aluminum HTC one looked like high quality, but I used it for 5 days and I faund that htc still doing garbage quality control. The phone is looong thebpower botton is very high, and i have big hands. The phone gets hot when I start using, the battery drains (I almost disabled all the apps). 2 dead pixels and so one. So decided to return and never ever get HTC, becuse every time I buy HTC all the time it has toooo many defects. Mytouch 4g, htc one x and one x+. I exchanged the one x for 5 times so I dont want to go tru that anymore.
This is my opinion. Sorry if it was long.

I for one am not going to bash on someone who simply has a different liking. I have been lucky with HTC; out of my last 4 phones, I only had to exchange one (my HD2) because it was overheating. I always liked HTC build and designs.
