Asus Transformer Prime TF700T official with 1920 x 1200 res and new design to improve GPS
Published on The Verge - All Posts | shared via feedly mobile
Asus is today introducing the TF700T, a new variant of its Eee Pad Transformer Prime tablet, whose major upgrade is a move to a 1920 x 1200 resolution. That makes two Android tablets moving to a 1080p res at CES 2012, following Acer's unveiling of the Iconia Tab A700 yesterday.
The new Transformer Prime isn't sacrificing quality for quantity with its move to a much higher pixel density — its display is still made of the SuperIPS+ stuff that impressed us so much when reviewing the TF201. Another highly significant upgrade is in the tablet's rear cover design, which has been altered to allow for better GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth performance. Great for new buyers, to be sure, but we wonder how happy owners of the current-gen Prime will be...

Ah too late, duplicate thread. Sorry!
Well, things announced at CES are released when? Late 2012? You can barely get a TFP at $500 right now. Is this thing going to cost $700 and be sold alongside the TFP?
hmmm ....

A bit early to decide the truth of this but considering the out cry about the bootloader, i dont think Asus will want a whole bunch of angry 1st gen customers spamming facebook again.

The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime TF700T will go on sale in North America in Q2, priced at $599 for the 32GB model and $699 for the 64GB model.
I bought this online and I'm nearly about to send it back. The tablet itself works fine, but the SAM marketplace is a disgrace to android and my eyesight. The only games on it are puzzles and useless apps. I downloaded Amazon app store and received a few decent apps, but it holds no comparison to the android market on my Android ATRIX. Im considering getting the ASUS transformer prime. I was told it is an excellent android tablet and Has android marketplace. Should I go through with sending back my Impression tablet and purchasing the ASUS transformer prime tablet?
Yes please.
I'm once again returning my third Prime to Texas via RMA. I doubt I'll see it again for at least a month or two. So I want to get something in the meantime and the only thing I liked at all was the Samsung Galaxy 10.1 since everything actually worked great on it. Is there anything else available that is more powerful or a higher-end tablet? I can't seem to find anything and I do not like Apple products at all.
Lenovo its supposed to release a new tablet later this month, no idea about specs or anything.
For Android, it's barren right now. There are some 2nd-gen toys if going the 4G/carrier-contract route. But for no-contract, the Prime is it. We'll have to wait for spring launch. Personally, I'm mighty curious myself to see what will be deployed against the $400 iPad 2, as most Android tabs will still have 1280x800 res.
Amazon and B&N should have their 10" toys out soon. But with iPad's $400 (or $350 for refurb), I'm not sure a $300 barebone tablet will be all that appealing, especially with their "proprietary" Android and limited ecosystems.
At the least, we should see Asus' TP300 for probably $350--assuming Asus can make the price point. More interesting is how much the TP700 will be priced, or if it will reach the shelf at all. Asus just announced optional 1080p screens for its flagship Zenbook line, so I can't imagine 1080p is that cheap. If it were, it would've been a standard option.
Acer already has its low-end Teg2 A200 at $350. For the Teg3 A510 to compete, it'll have to replace the A200 at same price point. Again, we'll have to see if Acer can make the price.
I have low hopes for the "premium" vendors like HTC and Moto. Ditto for Toshiba Excite. But Samsung is intriguing. Sammy has the largest commitment to Android and a plethora of announced tablet models. Which models will make it, and how they'll be priced, will be the bellwether for Android's 3rd-party viability for 2012.
>Lenovo its supposed to release a new tablet later this month, no idea about specs or anything.
From CES, the majority of Lenovo Android models won't make it stateside. That 4:3 tab on Engadget today...unless it's $300, it's DOA.

If Sammy could make a USA made tablet or assembled with 25% made in the US: pcb case packaging etc then they could totally outsell apple if they cut their profit in it really low like 25$ per tab or less..

Looks like Android police has posted a new Asus TF500T has hit the FCC. They think it may be the replacement for the transformer prime.

Would be nice if Asus would allow us prime owners a free upgrade.

Infinity was a replacement for Prime, which is also somewhat broken. This could be a replacement for Infinity.
It is probably their Windows RT tablet.

Asus Windows 8 Tablets are
1. Asus Tablet 600 (Tegra 3 ARM)
2. Asus Tablet 810 (Intel Medfield or Cloverfield x86)
Asus TF500T could be Windows 8 tablet... although, not sure exactly where this would fit in their line-up for Windows. However, it most likely is an Android tablet as Engadget, Androidpolice.. and etc are indicating...
I was eyeballing their FCC label which says MSQTF500T thinking maybe MS could mean Microsoft.

Sorry to disappoint
MSQ= the Asustek ID at the FCC.
I've just looked at the TFP internal pictures at the FCC (they were withheld for 6months after approval) https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/eas/GetApplicationAttachment.html?id=1566969 Well worth a look and compare to the production model teardown pictures. In view of the 100's of posts about wifi the antenna picture #33 shows there has been some DIY after the PCB was made.
Should be interesting....
If it is Windows tablet... you have to wonder why Asus would release two ARM tablets based on Tegra..
1. MS Surface is rumored to be launched with $200 (i doubt it but.. whatever, rumor goes) & it'll be impossible for Asus to match that price & H/W
2. Releasing two Tegra 3 tablet (and both of them seem to be 10 in tablet) makes no sense again.. for Asus... when you consider Windows RT & MS Store is at complete infancy (and most OEMs are shunning Windows 8 RT at least until next year....)
If it is Android tablet.... welll..
1. Asus is releasing Android tablets in about every 3 to 4 month (and each with issues & in limited quantity)..... This seems to be old HTC model with their smartphone, just releasing new phone almost every month with very small "upgrade" in spec.... Do they really want to follow HTC model where they are currently having major financial issue?? I can't see how this will go well with current ASUS tablet owners from Tegra 3 generation as well (especially... US... the Prime owners).
2. This only makes sense if it is 7in. tablet..... But we shall see...

unlikely. Would be called something else then. It wouldn't go under transformer line.
Cant stand it.
these TF500 and the Nexus 10 rumors are keeping me form buying anything at the moment.
some seem to suggest that the TF500 might in deed be the Nexus 10, other think its a ridiculous idea.
thinking about the nexus 10 (if it even exist) and Asus track record of FCC approving the nexus 7 under memo370t,
to me it seems plausible the TF500 FCC might indeed be for the nexus 10
it makes no sens for asus to indeed role out a tf500 so close to the release of both tf300 and the tf700.
with the specs some where between the tf300 and tf700. i mean what improvements could they possibly make between tf300 and tf700?
the only difference between the two is the display and the cpu.
so would they release a tf500 with the cpu of the tf700 and the display of tf300 or maybe the other way around?
the hd display of the tf700 but the cpu of the tf300??
doesn't make to much sens but it very possible.
it would make a lot more sens for google to put out a nexus 10 as something similar to the tf300 with some minor improvements at a cool $300 bucks, in direct challenge and alternative to both window8 table and the apple ipad.
"demandarin" comments about asus would not give it a Transfomer line name seems sensible too.
but looking at it from the other side if asus would have applied memoX10t to fcc would we then not be much more incline to think that it probably means nexus 10??
just my 2cents
I've known about this model since April as it was mentioned in the Readme file for the ASUS Android USB Drivers (I sent it here: pastebin.com/0UkGtbcS ). In the last version of these drivers they removed the readme file
If we take take a look back at the number of models Asus produced in the eeepc family there maybe a few clues. eeepc family
In the end it was just plain confusing. I really should have learnt my lesson with the 900 that discharged the battery 15% each day when switched off due to poor motherboard design.
Maybe the TF500 is in the works so when they recall the POS Prime for the remaining poor saps that still have one (pi$$ed Gamestop customer here), they don't have to give us an Infinity. Since it is considered an "upgrade".
The TF500 is probably made out of recycled paper, but hey, the gps and wifi actually work.
OK here is my completely worthless prediction (worthless in that it isn't any better a guess than anyone else). The TF500 will be basically a TF700 with a 1280x800 screen. This gives them the following lineup:
TF300 with price reduced to about $300 MSRP. Plastic case and somewhat lesser build quality and slower clocked tegra 3
TF500 priced at about $400 MSRP with metal case and similar to the TF700 but with lower res screen (1280x800)
TF700 remains at its current $500 MSRP
Throw in the fact that the N7 is Asus too and you end up with Asus tablets at $200. $300, $400, and $500
Of course none of this would make any sense unless the price on the TF300 gets down to that $300 price point unless the TF300 is going to be phased out in favor of the TF 500.

If it's only 100 dollars cheaper not sure I would want it, for 350 I would go for it.
Looks like the TF500 is NOT the nexus 10.... Samsung must have beat them to it.
I'm not too stoked about the nexus 10 not having expandable memory. By the time you have music, movies, a couple backups and different ROMs to flash you are out of memory.
Is a Dual-core A15 Eagle CPU in the Nexus 10 better than the Quad core in the Prime?
Huawei MediaPad 10FHD 10.1" tablet PC
I want to know if it is the latest sales on the market
I fuond one from the web 365gate.com http://365gate.com/product-516.html but not find on other web sited
it will be released in SELECTED MARKETS in europe on this month, not so much information i could find about those markts but i'd say you can get this device easily on October.
that's what google says
I'm excited for that 800 megapixel rear camera! That's going to revolutionize tablet photography!
In all seriousness though, that looks like a monster of a device, but I would prefer to spend my money on a device that has more brand name support, and decent accessories to boot. For only $488 you can get the Asus Transformer Infinity Pad that has a faster processor with more supported software, probably better battery life, and an awesome keyboard dock that adds a lot of functionality.
