Finally had time to get this out. Tested on ViperRez but should work on any Sense 4 ROM. This is the kernel from the newest OTA leak made for Sense 4. Many are saying it's the same as previous ICS kernels. I know this is not true because I can see in the ramdisk a lot of debugging code is removed. My phone does run quite a bit cooler with this kernel and definitely AT least has an extra hour battery life. YMMV.
Thanks to con247 for the update script making this compatible with both S-ON and S-OFF phones.
I don't know if the newest firmware is required for this kernel. I am using it and I do recommend it. You must be S-OFF to flash.
NOTE: you will lose fastboot flash commands with this hboot until you unlock or the new jpbear hboot is released.

Thank you! this new kernel is amazing. It last sooo much longer than the other ones, i was waiting for this
You don't need to be on the latest firmware to flash the kernel.
Thanks, trying now. Your a boss

If s-off is it necessary to change the kernel download to PH98IMG???
The kernel seems to be running sweet bro thanks for the work.

If your not s-off you probably just have to flash the boot.img in hboot. Correct me if I am wrong, I just use the built in command in the resound all in one tool to flash custom boot.img
All in one tool

Just flash the zip in recovery it will place a PH98IMG.zip on your sd. Then just reboot to bootloader and it will install the kernel.
If you are s off you just flash the zip in recovery and your done

Hi..I have created this tool to help people new to Android or HTC for that matter to flash kernels and recoveries without any pain..
You put recovery.img in the Recovery folder and open Recovery-Flash.bat
And it will flash the recovery.
You put boot.img in the Kernel folder and open Kernel-Flash.bat
And it will flash the kernel.
For all flashes you need to have USB Debugging enabled and have to be booted in normal OS.
It will do everything.
MAKE SURE YOU NAME THE RECOVERY recovery.img AND THE KERNEL boot.img otherwise this ToolKit will not work.

It was possible on the rezound with s-on. Con247 wrote a script that turned the kernel into a ph98img.zip that was flashable in h boot then all you had to do was delete or rename the ph98img.zip

Can go into recovery but will not boot a rom
Hboot says no image or wroing image
any ideas?
What ROM are you trying to flash, and how are you trying to flash it? Custom ROM's are typically flashed through recovery, not Hboot (bootloader).

When you flash the ROM through recovery, what happens? Do you get any sort of error message? Does the phone go into a boot loop, hang on the splash screen, or what?
Sent using my HTC EVO LTE and a magic wand
The ROM installs and then go into a boot loop. Sorry I am learning as I go.
Sent from my cm_tenderloin using xda app-developers app
Sounds like you need to flash the kernel separately from the ROM itself since you are S-on (I don't believe CM10 includes a kernel installer for those that are S-on). You will need to use something like Flash Image GUI (an app available on the Play Store) to flash the kernel separately from the ROM so it will boot.

Yes! Thank you very much. I installed kernel separately and that did the trick. Now I shall work on installing jb.

Are you flashing the boot img in fastboot before installing in recovery? Most sense roms are over 500mb and have the same kernel so it boots up fine without flashing the boot img before hand. Aosp roms will require you to flash the boot img before hand if you're s-on

^This. You will need to put the boot.img in your ADB tools folder on your computer, put the phone in fastboot USB mode and use the command 'fastboot flash boot boot.img' to flash the kernel to your phone. A better solution is to get S-off so you don't have to mess with flashing the kernel separately .

Agreed. Best thing to do is get S-OFF! :good: :good: :good:
S-OFF is cake now. No reason NOT to do it. It will make all of this EASIER for you. Just up and do it.
You have two possible methods to do this: DirtyRacun or Facepalm. The latter can be done in five minutes.
You'll thank yourself later.

From the thread I linked previously -
"You can also come by irc for support or just to say thanks: #FacePalm http://chat.andirc.net:8080/?channels=facepalm"
I know it can be scary, but you have to read the forum(s) and/or watch the video(s). Since you took the trouble to register on this site, don't rush and take the time to learn and understand by reading, reading, and more reading. It's not an overnight thing, but it does come eventually. It took me 6 months before I began to have a decent understanding of what I was doing with my first PC...
No offense, but we can't hold your hand as you cross the street. You have to take those first steps yourself. Read carefully, make notes that YOU will understand a day later... but you must take the responsibility for what happens to your phone.

Make sure you are wiping all partitions.
