I am trying to edit an .xml file in settings.apk, i can't remember the name as im away from my computer, but i tried decompiling manually and recompiling and i jsut get force closes when i copy back to system\app. I also tried apk manager and get the same force closes. I did sign them .apk and also include the twframework.apk as a dependency when compiling/decompiling. Any tips as why i could possibly be getting all force closes? I removed touchwiz from system/app could this effect it?
I don't have experience with your specific case, but when it comes to removing touchwiz from system/app I have noticed problems. For one, when I select Airplane mode, phone lags and I get a force close error. Another, I experience longer (not considerably longer, but still longer) boot times. Tried various things such as factory resets, flashing touchwiz-less systems, but still got these error.s Both issues remedied by putting touchwiz back in system/app.
So yea, not directly answering your specific case, just saying it's possible since removing touchwiz seems to cause problems for myself.
I can't seem to change DPI on any of these new ICS roms..
I have to! I'm not blind!
So it's stuck at 240 dpi.. I've tried DPI changer apps, but on every reboot my phone hangs at boot logo (splash screen, logo.jpg)
Maybe changing DPI on these roms doesn't work?
I feel you mate!
Last I checked It worked on LP6, from LPH onwards it doesnt work!
I dont know the reason but yeah hasnt been working for me too.
Damn this is unbearable! Even blind people can see these huge icons. Someone must know of a fix..

edit the build.prop file in system folder and change the value from 240 to 160 or some other value you like.
Done that, same effect..
I done that, except deleting the backup build.prop.bak. I don't see why that'd help so I'll exclude it for now..
Got stuck at splash screen still!
I know on LPH and a few other ICS roms that the build prop has two locations you need to set the LCD Density. If you changed one already, look for the other one as there should be two locations within build prop.
Ok I've confirmed it by installing LPQ, rooting and changing LCD density. As mentioned, there are two 'ro.sf.lcd_density=240 locations in build prop. Change both of them to desired density level. I changed both of mine to 210 and after a reboot, the LCD changed without issue and a lot smaller.

just tried by changing both 'ro.sf.lcd_densities' to 160 with root tools and am stuck with bootloops...
I am a bit of a noob when it came to editting the build.prot but i changed both values and rebooted ,, everything is lots smaller now...
Now to learn how to size the desktop to fit the smaller writing/icons..
This method worked perfectly for me.
I went 192. After some tweaking apex got the desktop to look far less.. Err.. Big.
The email app and dialer are a bit skewed though.

tried every other way suggested here and came up with bootloops.
so i did this instead, using 7zip for the PC,
1. opened the cwm flashable custom rom's zip in the PC,
2. opened the build.prop with notepad where i had already set the *.prop to open with notepad
2. changed both locations from 240 to whatever i desired.
3. updated the build.prop back to the zip (it'll prompt when you close the build.prop)
4. Copied back to the SD card
5. and flashed
and voila, no worries, no bootloops
i hope this helps
I tried everything (changing on phone directly, flashing changed boot.prop, changing through the app), but in each case phone will not boot after change. I would really like to know what is the factor influencing this.
Did anyone succeed to change dpi on stock LPQ (rooted with CF and reverted to original kernel)?

I've but the omega rom on my SG2 and would like to know i editing the file to change my resolution will work? Since there seems to be mixed results. On Gingerbread used LCD density changer to get this done and would like to recreate the resolution on my ICS rom now.

Hi guys...
I have a problem here. I rooted my Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 through superuser one click and installed an app called ninja-morph from the market. This app can extract the files of an apk and we can replace objects such as image icons, in the folders in order to make them look as we want to. What happened now was that I changed the icons of two of my system apps successfully - Browser & Gallery. Then I thought of changing the icon of settings app, I tried 2 do so but what happened was that it didn't change and it started force closing. Then I went on to the web and searched for many solutions and so I downloaded an apk, shifted it to my phone an tried to install it but it didn't install. After many tries and changes through ninja-morph too I couldn't do anything. Now the problem is that I can't use wifi 'cause it needs settings. I can't even download any alternative 2 use wifi 'cause it needs wifi. I can't to anything related to internet or settings now. And worse, I just Factory Data Reseted to try if anything can be solved, but no... I just deleted all my apps. One way is to reload the software. But is it safe to do it with a root? Because I can't un-root it. Please Help Me Out.

Which rom are you using?
Seems your settinga apk got corrupted. Your options are:
-extract the original settings apk from the rom you're using and place it in system/app (with a root Explorer), with rw-r-r permissions.
-reflash a complete rom (custom through cwm or stock trough Odin)
Also, make a habit of backing up your original stuff before modding.

i used the stock 2.2.1, but now i have flashed and solved the problem.
After attempting the OGBatteryMod, my phone now has a black background, no notification bar, and no settings app. I am guessing there is a problem with SystemUI.apk and SecSettings.apk so I tried to reinstall them. However android fails to install them. The phone is rooted using exynos abuse. I have searched around and apparently this can be caused by flashing custom ROMS but I have done no such thing. A system restore might be necessary, but I would prefer not to if possible. Any help would be great!
FIX: Moved .apk files from folder "og" to system/app using root explorer. Mods: please remove this if needed
Hey.
http://www.ladda-upp.se/image.php?id=119180&size=full
It's just not possible to change them. I've frozed Sony keyboard in titanium backup, restored everything to stock, tried both swiftkey and go keyboard.
Problem is when I installed another application with other smileys, there is correct icons, but when I press them it's the same as default again.
Thanks alot for answer!
Now I also tried to reflash via flashtool. Still same smileys. :I
Its the Android stock smileys, right?
