Galaxy s2 i9100 not running on 4g. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have a white galaxy s2 i9100, but for some reason, when I put in my Tmobile sim card, it only runs on E network and not 4g. I contact Tmobile and they said there's nothing they can do about it since it's not a Tmobile phone. is there anything I can do to make my phone run on 4g? E network is very slow.

The I9100 version don't support 4G

But it says on the website that it does
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App

Im looking at the specification and i don't see any 4G.

I order mine on newegg.com before I purchase it I checked the specifics and it said 4g.

You're on T-Mobile? In the US? Then what you're seeing is normal. The GT-I9100 doesn't support one of the frequencies necessary for 4G on T-Mobile USA's network. (1700/2100) It will ONLY ever get Edge speeds.
It DOES support 4G (well, HSPA+, anyways) on AT&T's network, which runs on 850/1900.
See here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875176292. Once you get to this page, click on the Details tab. Notice where it says "3G". (I know - 3G; but it uses the same frequencies for HSPA+) It says "AT&T 3G Only".
Sorry bud.

A lot of carriers wrongly named their network 4G for advertising reasons when it is in fact still only 3G.
The reason why it might be on EDGE is because it probably has a much stronger signal than 3G does so it will default to it. You can set the phone to use 3G only by going to settings -> wireless & networks -> mobile networks and then set network mode to WCDMA only.
Take note of the signal strength in settings -> about phone -> status.

No. This will NEVER work. Trust me. the I9100 does not and will not EVER receive one of the frequencies necessary for T-Mobile USA's HSPA+ (what they market as 4G) network. You will ALWAYS only be able to get Edge on T-Mobile when using this phone.

Sorry, I'm use to the 850/900/2100mhz 3G frequencies we use here, all of which this phone covers so there's never a problem using any network... Except Vodafone, they suck on all frequencies

So I have me an Orange- UK sim card coming. My AT&T Galaxy S2 Is unlocked. I was wanting to test this in the states before everything. Its Prepaid but Orange Prepaid WORKS on T-Mobile in the USA. Since Network Selection is locked down Is there anyway to Select T-Mobile? Cause I know network secltion is locked. And yes the Phone is SIM UNLOCKED so I know it will take the sim card. its just will it connect to the T-Mobile Network?
It will work for calls. But Internet will only be edge. 3g and 4g(h+) for tmobile are run on a band this phone doesn't have.

But would my phone be able to get on the T-Mobile network at all since I can't select networks? And also idk about the att version but the T-Mobile galaxy s2 has the ATT 3g bands. But data does not matter. I just needed an UK number here in the states so calls and texts are just fine. But would it easily connect to the T-Mobile network without selecting it? Since it won't let me

Just do a search for tmobile apn's. Putting in the right apn will 'select' your carrier. Calling and internet will work fine. Just limited to edge. Tmobile phones are 100% compatible with at&t networks.

Sense it is similar unlocked it is network unlocked. Once you put your similar in and reboot it will go through the network set up again saying it detected a new similar card. After that it will connect fine. As for the data he is right the ATT version only supports ATT 3G or better bands, but as you said the data doesn't matter. If it doesn't automatically go through you can go into settings and select wireless networks and there is an option to scan for networks. Just select T-Mobile if that is what your carrier will run on. Not sure how it will react sense it will be roaming on that network though
On the att galaxy s2 it won't allow u to do network scan it search unless running miui rom

It would if your sim card prefers T-Mobile network. Although you can't manually select networks, SIM card contains instructions as to which network it prefers to use. There is really no need to manually select networks unless you don't like what the SIM carrier prefers.

[Q] AT&T Galaxy S II i777 on T-Mobile

Once unlocked,will the i777 be able to access data at 3G and 4G speeds on T-Mobile USA's cellular network?

to put it plainly,
NO
the i777 does not support the required bands for accessing TMobile's 3g/4g network.
Had the merger gone through, possibly. But as of right now, no.
Tmobile is on 1700MHz and 2100MHZ while AT&T is on 850MHz and 1900MHz.
No, and this is the case for every AT&T device in existence to my knowledge.
In fact, the ONLY device I know of that is not sold by T-Mobile and supports their HSPA bands is the GSM Galaxy Nexus, which is one of the first (if not the first) phones to do pentaband HSPA.
Personnally I tested the Unlock Process with a T-Mobile SimCard...not sure if working properly due to a operation range described by the fellows

in even more bastardization provided by Samsung, the skyrocket can work on TMobile's 3/4G as long as you flash a TMo modem.bin to it.

You can still get 2G on T-Mo because T-Mo uses the standard 850/1900 for 2G. What OP asks is 3G/4G.

How is that an exception to what I'm saying. The T-Mobile version is not a device sold by AT&T, and is, by definition, a device sold by T-Mobile.
It's always been a bit easier to get T-Mo phones to work on AT&T - a number of them support the AT&T bands. But it's never been easy (and with the possible exception of the Skyrocket, never even possible) to go the other way without losing 3G.

That would be the obvious answer based on the published specs, but I found an unselected listing in the hidden modem/ band settings for WCDMA 1700 MHz (Band IV) on my i777. I don't know if it works, but it's listed. From the phone keypad on the stock version, type in *#2263# and then look under Combinations. The phone lists 7 different GSM/PCS/WCDMA frequencies and only the obvious 5 are selected.
Anyone with an unlocked i777 on Tmo want to try it out?

Unlikely. Unless the phone has the hardware support for it.
I found out after extensive research on the Nexus One, that even though the radio chip inside it supports both frequency sets (pentaband, I suppose); the power amplifiers were only connected to certain frequency outputs, depending on the carrier it was advertised for. Which means even if I flashed a T-Mobile radio, the signal wouldn't be strong enough to get outside the case of the phone, let alone to a cell tower.
Your best bet is with European phones, as I believe they use the same frequencies as T-Mobile (since they're owned by a euro company).
Someone should confirm, but I would guess that the I9100 will work on T-Mobile with 3G.

No, WCMDA = UMTS = pure vanilla 3G.
2G = GSM/GPRS
"2.5G" = EDGE
3G = vanilla UMTS (WCDMA)
3.5G = HSDPA
3.75G = HSPA+
3.9G (it's not really 4G) = LTE
true 4G = LTE Advanced
Most phones, even if they support advanced modulation schemes (HSPA, HSPA+) will list the band support as "UMTSxxxx or WCDMAxxxx"
I heard (it's actually confirmed, can't find the article), T-Mo has the same 3G bands as AT&T in some remote part of the USA, I think somewhere in Washington state, not sure though? The OP might want to move there

That might explain why the Vibrant apparently supported one (but not both) of AT&T's bands.
As I understand it, unlike the N1, the international HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus is full-blown pentaband.
Tmo has roaming agreement with at&t. So it is possible in places there is no tmo tower, your tmo phone could roam to at&t tower without showing the roaming sign.

I9100 (Orange) on Simple Mobile network?

Hi, everybody. Things happens so I left my US phone in Warsaw's taxi being there for Euro-2012 and bought Galaxy S2 I9100 from Orange. Came back to US and was trying to configure internet connection and had no luck getting 4G speeds. So far on the phone it just showing EDGE and low speeds. Is there any way to fix that issue? Was trying to search for this on the forums and Google, just found a couple of ideas that it doesn't work with 4G for some reason.
Any help would be appreciated!
Not sure if polish sgs2 have 4g (Lte) at all. If you want 3g you need to change APN settings for your providers default. You will find it in web.
Other possibility - you have no coverage of network .

If you're on T-mobile USA, you'll never get better than Edge speeds on their network with an i9100. The phone doesn't have the requisite antenna hardware to receive 1700 mhz for UMTS, which us one of the two required frequencies of the AWS band. (the other being 2100 mhz)

You're right, the i9100 does NOT have LTE. He's trying to get what passes for 4G (HSPA+) on one of our US carriers. I'm trying to determine if it's T-mobile USA or AT&T.
I totally missed the carrier name right in the thread title. Simple Mobile operates on the T-mobile USA network. So, I'm sorry to inform you, but you bought a phone that will never get 4G on your network. Sorry.
What about 3G? Or because of the antenna frequency difference not even that?

how to check galaxy s3 is 4g-LTE activated or not?

Hi... How to check if my galaxy s3 is activated for 4g-LTE network as in the country I work right now dont have 4g-LTE but it is going to launch the 4G-LTE in few months...

It its model (Menu --> Settings --> About Device --> Model number) is GT-I9300, it's the international version and it's not an LTE device.
If it's SGH-T999, it's the US T-Mobile version, you're in the wrong forums, and it's not an LTE device also.
If it's SGH-I747, it's the US AT&T version, you're in the wrong forums, and it's LTE-enabled.
If it's SCH-R530, SCH-I535 or SPH-L710, it's one of the US CDMA versions, you're in the wrong forums, and it's LTE-enabled.
If it's SGH-N064 (SC-06D), it is the Japanese NTT DoCoMo version, you're in the wrong forums, and it's LTE-enabled.
Finally, if it's SHV-E210K/L/S, it is the Korean version, which is the only quad-core, 2GB, LTE-enabled model. And you're in the wrong forums.

I just got thebsprin gs3 4g lte model and I too want to know how can we manually turn 4g on or off or simply verify it's on 4g. My epic 4g had a friggin checkbox you could see it was checked or jot but the gs3 doesn't. Still love the phone so far with one major hit, no ability to kove apps to SD. Is it just ke or does that seem stupid? Anyone know of abway to get this functionality back without rooting and if rooting is needed what's the likelihood I'll brick my phone? Never rooted, scares me
Easy way to check is to use the speed test app, if you get more than 40mbs, there's a good chance that you're on a lte network with lte access. One of my mates has an i9300 GT, 1G ram but gets 54mbs, so I'm at a loss as to what's going on there. I did the speed test for him on Telstra's network in Tassie... Checked in settings and it does use lte...

I have Korean s3 SHV-E210 L and it only connects to GPRS and 3G. When I select WCDMA only the network keeps on dropping out. Please tell me whether my phone is 4g compatible? I even do not get H+ network in this phone. I had s2 and it was having a great H+ network but this s3 only receives 3g forcefully. It has got 4.1.2 custom , 2GB RAM and 25 GB ROM. And can I upgrade it to kitkat?
I am sick of slow internet please help. Thanks admin n all.
Thanks.
The E210L is not a good match for either European or American bands, as it's tailored to LG U+'s CDMA (3GPP2)-based network. It is a bit of a surprise that it even works on GSM, much less on 3G.
IIRC the E210K is recommended in Europe.

Korean s3 SHV-E210 L 2GB RAM and 25GB ROM and it only connects to GPRS and 3G!
I am in India and using Korean s3 LTE 2gb ram which doesn't receive H, H+. It only catches GPRS and forcefully 3G with an speed of maximum 1 mbps. I have contacted Telecom provider and am sure it's not there fault as apart from this phone other phones work perfectly fine. Please help me to improve the speed of my cell data internet as it can support Upton 21mbps. I am sick of slow internet and network dropouts. Thanks. ?
AFAIK India uses the same frequencies as Europe (same ITU region). So, you will likely need E210K or E210S (both GSM devices) to get 3g and 4g, not E210L, which is a CDMA phone. Not all Korean 4G S3s are the same.
Also, your SIM could be too old, or your APN settings wrong. However, it sounds like your device can only receive a less-used frequency band for 3g, with less than normal coverage - a common issue with LG U+ devices.

S3 Network issue! Slow internet!
I've S3 E210 L and when I check my APN settings it does have LTE option under Bearer but currently my Telecom provider doesn't support 4g. However they do provide 3G with a great speed. I hv used it on other mobiles and it works great . It's just this phone gets only G when selected GSM/WCDMA automode. When I manually select WCDMA only it gets 3G but very slow speed and it drops out very frequently. The maximum speed which I have received is around 1 mbps only.
Please provide me with a resolution how I can I get good bandwith/speed. ?

How to Enable HSDPA + ?

I want to Enable H+ but i don't now how.
Is it only available in selected providers, Countries or everywhere? Or just in Big Cities ?

If you enabled WDCMA in network options, phone will automatically use H+ when carrier and current station supports it.
