Unrooted SGS2 report from new user - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Just an update.
So I got the SGS2 last nite, about 5pm.
From 5pm to 8pm, I did send 3 short gmails and 2 sms.
Also tap on myATT to check the data usage once.
Receiving one phone call.
From 8pm to 12pm: plugging to charge, fully 100%. Unplug and power OFF @ midnite.
9am in the morning, making a 25' phone call.
10am, check myATT again and it showed I have consumed 11.01MB
Really???? From 5pm yesterday to 10am today with few emails/sms/checking myATT once and it already 11.01 MB???? Heck. Grrrr!!!
After 11:30am, turn ON bluetooth and paired with headset, made another 2' phone call via bluetooth, then turn bluetooth OFF, also turn GPS OFF.
Note: Wifi has never been turned ON.
Since then til now, 4:22pm EST, no call, no browsing, but receiving a lot of gmails (via ATT network since wifi is off), phone showed 6h53m battery life left.
With those activity listed above, I think the battery is weak.

We can indeed turn off both wifi and mobile network and still able to make/receive calls or send/receive sms. This will help save a bit of battery. That's good.

You say you got the phone 5pm last night.
Your phone's battery needs to be cycled for 2-3 days before you can even get close to an accurate summary of battery usage.
Charge the phone until the battery is full, let it discharge with normal usage
3-4 times and after that you will be able to tell how good or how bad your
battery drainage might be on your phone.
Also it's a lot more accurate to test battery drainage if you conduct the
tests BEFORE you install any apps. Just use the phone STOCK for 3-4 days.

He also didn't say how much he was polling for email. Display settings?
And, as the poster above, you need to cycle the battery several times properly.

Nah, no need to cycle battery on most Samsungs, we don't have fuel gauges that need calibration.
A device needs to sit on the shelf for a VERY long time to develop a passivation layer.
Probably just typical "new user playing too much" or "user installed a crappy app like Skype almost immediately".
Although the high data usage is interesting - either Market updates of a new phone (possibly even downloading an OTA update), or you're on UCKH7 and the AP Mobile widget is acting up already.
My highest usage all last year was 400 MB in a month, and that involved quite a bit of tethering my Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Eh, I have an unlimited plan but 400mb isn't all that much. I have no idea how you did any sort of tethering without passing the 1gb mark. I don't stream very often, but will use Pandora or the AT&T Uverse app for college football occasionally. I average about 1gb or so, and have gone up to 4 (although that's far from normal for me).
I work for AT&T and the average user seems to consume about 500 MB in data a month, so if you're on the 200mb plan, you better have WIFI at home / work / school or wherever you spend most of your time.

Whoops wrong button, anyways, yes there is a bunch of crapware installed on our phones, check out the list of known battery drainers and see if you use any of those. myATT takes a while to update, and its much easier to just type #3282* (data) on your dialer and hit call. Also, wifi would be preferred, as typically it uses less battery (at least thats what I see, especially with any kind of data). Disable automatic updates of alot of things such as apps, weather, stocks and whatnot (removing widgets also helsp), and first time, especially if you linked your facebook, its gonna download and sync all of your contacts and their profile images. 200mb is very restraining if thats what you have...

First of all, I am a totally newbie to smartphone, prior to 5pm on that day, I was still using the antiqued flip phone . However, I am familiar with Android OS a bit since dealing with the B&N NC. I tend to rip the NC apart w/o worrying anything, worst case, restore it confidently; SGS2 is on the other hand, it is a must have device, and I admit that I'm somehow afraid that I will mess it up. That's why still keeping it stock for now. But I eye to use UnNamed ROM along with Entropy512 DD kernel, it is on my list.
Secondly, to answer akira, I have no idea how much I was polling for email, as I said, I left H+ on all the time, so I got every single gmail that sent to me.
Display settings? you meant brightness? or display the Phone Status?

@penguin,
Yes, it's just like new lappy, tons of pre-installed crapware. I was thinking either I manually uninstall them or wait until out of warranty and put the UnNamed or any great custom ROM on it.
You know what, anytime I check myATT on the SGS2, it consumes data, so I found a cheating, sneaky way that checking it using wifi (not using ATT network) or using my NC . The reason I am so focus on it 'cuz I only have 200MB plan, if I use much more than that I will switch plan later, but for now, 200MB plan and using wifi.

You do know you can return to 100% complete stock right? As long as you read and follow directions, there's a miniscule chance of hurting this device, it's very resilient.

Thanks for your note, m8.
And honestly no.
Like I said, I just own a smartphone for 2 days, so admittedly I never set a foot (or should I say a finger ) on this forum until now. I am still on the reading/learning curves. Many devices have their different capability, for instance the B&N NC is virtually unbrickable so we (NC users) do have a lot of fun whacking it. If hitting problem, XDA is here for help .
SGS2 is a phone, if we're not confident and if we mess something up, we freak out or panic. hehehehe, at least that's on my mind
The reason I said "no" above because I read some posts and they said only 95% back to original, not 100%. Is it still true?
Anyway, big thank for your confirm.

Alright, so I went online and checked out the data usage.
At around 4:57pm, Internet/Media Net from phone took up 11345KB in one shot.
Don't know what that was
Maybe activating process? Getting H+ to work? Initial setup? Whatever, that's what it was.
The other Internet/Media Net from phone @9:03am and 5:14pm, don't remember what I did? Maybe 1 gmail and 1 sms? Either way, 1 of them took roughly 2MB. Woww.

Adding image

You should really get 2gb on your first month to see how much data you use and not risk paying overages, after that you can decide what to do with how you want to use your phone.

I'm not worry, m8, I'm more like an old fashion guy who not using phone internet much. I am pretty much working and/or wifi accessing all the time
Just try to see how much MB I do use a month since with wifi, I never ever pay attention.

Just another update.
A few days ago, phone was at 33% battery life around 11pm, left H+ on overnite with screen turned off, in the next morning @ 8am, checked, phone was still at 33%.
Last nite, phone was at 87% at 11pm, left wifi on (no H+) overnite with screen turned off, this morning @ 8am, it only has 81% left . Recheck at 9:30am, it's 79%.
I thought wifi consumes less power than 3G, left alone 4G/H+, hmmmm

H+ is only active when transferring data. It's basically using multiple connections of 3g to get faster overall connection, so it was in 3g all night. Also you should try with the battery fully charged and check to make sure your phone was not awake. I know that I drop 1 or 2% overnight with either wifi or cell data.

Thanks, m8
Good to know.
At first, I always think 3G consume more power than wifi. Then reading posts, seems to be 8 out of 10 people claim wifi consume less 'cuz shorter Tx (like wifi at home) distance, final answer from them is "testing yourself" so I did and it got me a surprise that in my case, wifi seems to use more.
Learning every day.

Well every person is different. I live in an area with low signal, so it usually takes a couple of tries to actually get the data, and I have multiple apps checking every 15-30 minutes (but phone still stays in deep sleep). The thing with android is that everyone is different and has different apps that affect battery life.

Update:
Last nite, 01/05, phone was at 87% at 11pm, left wifi on (no H+) overnite with screen turned off, this morning @ 8am, it only has 81% left . Recheck at 9:30am, it's 79%.
Beside 20' talk via bluetooth (after than turn off bluetooth) no other activity in the morning until noon.
Turn on wifi, keep it on until 6:30pm. Did download and install a few apps w/i 15' max, battery at 62%.
At 6:30pm, turn off wifi, turn on H+, turn on gps, turn on bluetooth.
Another 25' talk via bluetooth while driving along with Maps GPS on.
Arrive home, phone has 45% left.
Wowww
With very limited usage, the phone lasts only about a day
Woman, battery drained too fast, grrrrr.
With my normal usage, it probably last 4 hours.
I don't know it is what it is or I actually has a defect battery pack?

[Q] Mozart battery life

Hi!
How long does your Mozart work.
My settings: WiFi & BT are off / Exchange sync is permanent.
Around 30 mins calling time a day.
Battery is empty during the afternoon. It simply does not "survive the day" and has to be recharded. Is my device not ok, or do you have the same experience?

Are you on telstra network perhaps?
I read something on the internet about a bug in the Exchange service, it reestablishes the connection every minute, so thats why you battery is empty so fast. (probably)
HTC is working on the problem. but if you are on a Telstra network there is a workaround http://blog.walshie.me/2010/11/15/htc-mozart-telstrabattery-issues-solved/
Hope this helps
I was not too pleased about the battery myself, but it was never as bad as what you're reporting!
I've always had Wifi turned on and use Exchange email... and have been continuously using the media player or an app or game now and then... and it lasts me a full day... There was once or twice when i had been continuously at it that it had 20% left by evening...
I posted about it on the forums too and someone said it'll automatically adjust itself... i was a bit skeptical, but today it still has 60% battery left and it is 12:15 AM now...! (though i did have Wifi turned off for the most part today)
Hello everyone
I have the htc mozart one month offered by the girlfriend. I used the mobile phone several times and even with wifi and bluetooth on and always lasted one day (24h) without problems. yesterday charged at 24h and at 15h had no battery. had not even turned on wifi or bluetooth. since then the battery does not last anything I do not know what happened but its not and nomal. Somebody now something about? This its really a joke but I know that the battery lasts well over

were you in an area with poor cell reception? if yes, that would affect the battery because the phone is constantly working to maintain a signal. i'm using an 1800 mAh battery from Mugen and it's easily lasting 32+ hours with 1 Push Exchange account, BT/Wifi off, 2 POP accounts (1 hour retrieval times) and about 40-80 minutes of calls when i'm in an area with a strong signal. i spent two weeks at a client site where i could barely get 1 Bar (and most often had "No Service) and the same battery would be depleted in about 18 hours. when working in an area with great cell reception, battery life is great for my use. on 2 occasions i forgot to charge the phone overnight and had about 15% battery left when i woke the next morning. in case you're wondering, i'm using the HTC TestTool - Battery Tool (v1.20.0.0) to determine battery percentage. you can find in in the WP7 forums.
I'm using the phone as I have always used but something happened that makes the battery last while. without stirring overnight stays with half in morning
i leave in portugal and use optimus
sotty bad english

That the point you living in area where the cell phone reception is really bad!! It's same for me when I go to my Island in carraibe !!But where I living Paris and London I can keep the battry 100% at 7h in the morning till late in evening around 2h at 20%; Using all day Wifi, TV, Game... So the issue about battery is not the phone but carrier issue.
Because when I take a "Metro" or "Tube" where the reception are really bad my battery drainning fast....
For me it last for a day, since i don use 3g n wifi, i use followin settings.
3g turned off
wifi turned off
Always try to close the running apps using the back key.
everynite i switch my phone to low brightness, so that i don need much time in charging my phone in the morning b4 i leave to work.
with every settings turned on the battery last for 15-17 hours.
hope they fix the battery issue in the comming update.
With heavy usage 9-10 hours battery life for me.3g,4 e-mail account.One is push,the others checking every 15 minutes(almost getting 150 e-mails every day).1 hour talk time,Web browsing over 3G,listening music 30-45 mins,playing games 15 mins.(Brighness medium,location service all on)
using dark back grounds will help save power, but everyone nows that dont they.
Except it won't help with Mozart. It only works for AMOLED displays, Mozart has an LCD.
it has at least awesome standby time...
the red light once began to flash when i went to sleep.
when i got up around 9-10h later the phone was still on.
only bluetooth was off...
even more standby power, im back to report:
3+ DAY STANDBY!
i charged my phone friday 02-11-2011
untill today (tuesday) it still lasted,
same-time as last-charge 02-15-2011
thats incredible 4 days...
WLAN was OFF the most time
3G on
only did around 4-7 2min calls
didnt play much with it,
only quickly checking for news in market from time to time
had 2 reboots because of that
and did around 5 pictures.
i think its pretty awesome times...
yeah with heavy usage its only 1 day
but still its a phone and its standby is great
There's no surprise that the phone lasts long when you don't do anything with it.
As far as I can see, the battery annihilating combination is browsing the web via 3G. Guess IE was optimized for speed to impress with responsiveness. This probably won't change much until IE9 comes (which may or may not help). The power-hungry screens are a universal problem on all current HTC devices, with WP7 and Android equally, so this won't change.
The real killer is WI-FI, i upgraded to the MUGUN 1800MiH Battery, and im not looking back, it lasts way more than 50% longer than the standard battery did.
for £28 with free delivery, you'd be silly not to buy it.
also, as an aside, the Battery arrived within 4 days from HONGKONG, which is great because it advertised that the battery would have a 10 - 15 day shipping time.
Okay... what if
had 50% power left the night before...
after 6 hours sleep
phone is out of battery @@
Now that aint right, im guessing something is running under locked screen and iono what!!! but i always jump out of any program when im about to sleep too, so it cant be because of that
In the past, i could have standby time for a long period especially after one night. But the past two days when i woke up, it always ran out of battery!!
the first two days when i got my mozart it died on me due to low battery. but when i upgraded it to nodo(i think), the battery is longer now. but i will check some more.
my battery usually lasts 24 hours. But when I open htc weather, starts to pick up GPS signal if I leave soon have a very abnormal wear of the battery.
I tried with other Porgram gps and the same happens, the battery does not last 10h

The Battery on this thing is a monster

I've not been able to drain this thing since I got it a week and a half ago. I have to say that I like to charge things over night. I've not been able to get the Photon below 40% before I go to bed each night.
I hear that you need to drain it full at least once but my habit of charging things overnight is getting in the way. Should I just let it go overnight one night?
I was under the impression that completely draining Lithium Ion batteries causes more harm than good.
"The smaller the depth of discharge, the longer the battery will last. If at all possible, avoid frequent full discharges and charge more often between uses. If full discharges cannot be avoided, try utilizing a larger battery. Partial discharge on Li-ion is fine; there is no memory and the battery does not need periodic full discharge cycles other than to calibrate the fuel gauge on a smart battery."
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries
Also, i'm sitting at 46% after 15 hours of normal (for me) use. not to shabby. I should mention i'm running Juice Defender and build 4.5.1A-1_SUN-198_5 from the dev. forums and i'm connected to WiFi 90% of the time.
going to try tomorrow without Juice Defender and see how it does. After that i'm going to disable SPB Shell and see if that makes a difference.
Thank you sir. I don't want to root my phone so don't run Juice Defender but I do use the Data Saver in stock a lot. I usually just listen to a lot of music and look for new stuff on FB, check XDA forums blah blah blah, yada yada yada...
I'll not feel paranoid about charging my phone now lol.
Now with my tablet (Acer Iconia A500) I did root and load a bunch of different stuff. This is my first cell phone though and I didn't want to mess with something that I have to pay a monthly charge for. I know I could but it's my first cell phone lol.
How much are you guys using it? For me, I use about 30min talking, 1 hr heavy wifi use, 1 hr light wifi use (reading), 30 minutes playing with settings, and the rest of the day idle...that gets me to about 30%.
I actually thought that is kind of weak. Maybe my battery isn't as healthy as yours? I've only had it for 5 days. I charge it every night.
I use it for about 7 to 8 hours of music, FB updates/posting, checking XDA, about 10 minutes of calls and so far some Netflix watching just to show off the phone to my peeps. Oh and some picture taking.
I am the same way I hate to discharge it completely and its been very hard. I've went a day and a half without charging before it went under 10%. I will say that I am on Wifi 90% of the time as I have wifi at work and at home other than that its on performance mode so no true bells and whistles. I'm thoroughly impressed coming from the Evo.

Average day for me is about 30 to 45 minutes of phone calls, 80 to 100 texts, few conversations on google talk, 30 or so emails on three accounts and i have trillian running connected to two accounts.
Connected to WiFi most of the time, bluetooth is turned on (not connected most the time) and brightness set to Auto.
I really dont see how this phone is a monster when it comes to battery life, I've actually been getting the exact opposite. I just fully charged my phone and after running for 2hrs and 7mins its down 78%.... This phone has yet to last me for the whole day. What am i doing wrong? I dont have tons of widgets and the only app that im running that might pose a problem is Go Launcher

Is that your screen on time? If that is then I would say that is impressive already. When I had the epic on stock if I use it for 2ish hours screen on time. I would need a recharge. (Got a lot better after using custom rom. Around 4 hrs screen on time before recharge)

Yes, but what's your battery status at the end of this average day? 20%? 30%? 10%?
+1 for an awesome battery!

For the past couple of weeks I've been swapping batteries with an external charger one to two times during the course of a day (plus the overnight charge)... Looks like it's time to do some housekeeping...
Edit: used to have battery life like everyone else in this thread though! While at the climbing gym last night I noticed that the thing felt like it was about to catch fire against my thigh - it had burned through about 60 percent of a freshly charged battery in about two hours. I have a nagging suspicion that I neglected to uninstall something (or a few things), and now something non-existent is constantly being polled for as a service after I launch some app for the first time...
when i got my phone it did great on a full day charge, but now with it just sitting at the office its at 70% by 11am i take it off the charger 7-8am .. it started to "weaken" after i downloaded a ton of apps i leave wifi on and 4g off but it also depends on your signal strenght at home it will kill the phone halfway thru the day because i have one bar

So how bad _is_ the battery problem

I have been dying to get this phone for weeks, but every review I see posted has bad news about the battery. I'd really love to hear some real world numbers to see if this phone could work for me. I really need to get through 'til late evening, and I need to be able to make 1.5-2 hrs of voice calls per day. Am I dreaming?
What is your experience?
Thanks for responding - I really appreciate your input!
My first real day with my Amaze
Woke up at 6 am EST. Went to the in-laws and usewd my phone to check traffic to ATL Hartsfield. Checked a few more times while texting and checking a few notifications. Get on plane. Airplane mode. Play some angry birds and teeter. try to figure out what all these widget things are all about since I am new to Android. Get to Chicago. Walk about 4 miles through the city snapin pics (see amazing photos thread) Stopped and ate at a resturant. More facebook, text email. Back to where we are staying and it just turned yellow. Not too bad if you ask me considering it was only yellow and I have juice defender for 25% or lower. I could have gone couple hours longer normal use.

cool - what time was it when you got back, and how long were you i nairplane mode?
very simply put, this phone is great... buy it. I had the sensation and i truly think its better on ALL aspects, including battery life, unless you NEED, absolutely cant live without wifi calling, i'd say its a great investment.
switching to 2G so far has saved a ton of battery... I'll see how tomorrow goes.

I noticed in your other thread that you were getting 19 hours - what is your usage pattern like? Also, why is wifi calling an issue - I thought that this had it. Not a deal breaker, but I'd love it for calling home when I'm overseas.
Simply put, from 100 - 0% battery...I haven't hit 7 hours yet (4.5-6.8 hours). That's on moderate-heavy use.
I've now gone through three cycles and will begin to use the device "normally" this coming week. Let's just say I'll be hanging onto my blackberry bold 9780 for travels or times when I know i wont be near a charger for a day. This is one of those - plug in at the office - kind of phones. haha.
Turning off 4g would help, as well as GPS.
I expect once I go back to my Android ways (I've been spoiled by BlackBerry battery life) I can push past 12 hours on this phone.

Hour and a half plane ride.... Got back close to 4 probably.
no major testing but i charged both of my devices to 100% Evo and Amaze. took them off the charger at 1am didn't touch them until 7 am and the Evo went down to 75% and the Amaze 73%. the Evo is rooted ad the Amaze is of course stock.
I have 3 gmail accounts on automatic sync as well as an exchange account set to push delivery. also a news and Facebook widget set to sync every hour.
Yesterday I watched my battery life carefully. I went 8+40 before the first battery warning at 29%. It went an hour and 10 minutes more to yellow at 19%. Then finally turned red after a total of 13+10. I would characterize my usage as light. I listened to an .mp3 while getting ready, did a little messaging. got maybe 20 emails during the day. Had a few short phone calls. Responded to an email from work. Downloaded and installed an app from thre Market. Watched a few short Youtube videos, etc. I have four email accounts, three of which push to the phone. Since I might need to respond to an emergency from the office, I can't see normally letting my phone go below 30%, so that means I have about 8 and a half hours of light use. I was really hoping for more.
As soon as we get root we will have wifi calling. That's if we don't get an OTA with that sooner.
Mine gets horrible battery life when I use it. But when it is on standby its almost crazy how little it actually seems to use.

Lol. That's about right.
For those of you having terrible battery life I suggest going to the market and downloading juice defender and juice plotter. I took my phone off the charger today around 6:15 am and it’s now 1:05am and I still have 26% battery remaining. That is with moderate use and a short 15 minute charge through a computer usb. I took about 8 calls averaging 5 minutes a call, one was 7, watched two YouTube videos, sent 11 text messages, played a game for about 5 minutes wasting time, checked a couple of my posts on xda 3 or 4 times, as well as using the weather app frequently (I’m in Florida and we've been getting hammered with rain!) O... and most of the things that required connectivity my phone was connected to Wi-Fi. With the correct profiles and settings enabled it should increase battery life considerably, and if you have root, even more so!! Been using it with my old g2 and myt4g, and now Amaze!!

[Q]Real world battery life

When someone here gets one of these could they please let us know what the battery life is like?
I know nokia says 400 hours standby but standby figures are kinda plucked out of the air since smart phones, i'm sure mine has 200h plus but realistically 2g, everthing turned off I can get around 4 days use of it when only using it for calls/txts. I nreal world upto 2 days, 1 day if I use it a lot.
I know its not real world use, but sometimes when i'm away in area's with no access to a charger I like to know I can last a couple of days without it dieing on me!
Cnet claims that it drops to 25% after just 4 hours of heavy usage. If this is true I would never buy it and it would be a real shame. Lumia 800 had same issues many months after launch and even after numerous software updates it is still not up there.Working at Nokia so I've seen my fair share of lumia failure...Really hope the 920 delivers.

Was that test with 4g on? i'm assuming with 4g it constantly searches for the network. If simply turning 4g off gives a nice boost to battery i'll be happy with that, personally i'm fine 90% of the time with 2g speeds.
My current phone gets just under 2 hours use in navigon at full charge. I know generally you have a car charger in car, but its the only way generally I use to measure how long the battery lasts.
I remember my first smart phone would power tomtom for around 5 hours on one charge, sure the screen was smaller and the processor was slower, but it was still perfectly usable. I suppose 320x240 would feel very wierd now tho...

Is this really that bad? Because this would mean you'll get about 8 hours with half the battery on heavy usage (assuming linear discharging). I'd think that is pretty good.
I currently own Samsung Focus (1st Gen) and I get about 26 hrs or so on moderate to low usage.
Unless they mean 4 hours straight gaming or watching a movie that is a lie.
I've had my phone for 6 hours using it pretty much none stop. Downloading lots, taking pictures/video, trying maps/gps, wifi on but not connected, no LTE but "4g", placed a few calls, dozens of text, full settings/setup, etc etc. This was from the phone coming out of the box at ~50% charged and I am at 19%.
Just got it so I will report back in a few days and see how it goes.
I've had mine for a week now and I have to say Im a heavy user - maybe because of that Im not too happy with the battery. I have to charge it after 7 or 8 hours but I do have bluetooth on, wifi on, 3g on, push email, facebook updates etc on all the time. As an Ipad owner I thought it might be on a par with that for battery life but it isnt....
I use my phones enough that I am use to charging them every day. I have yet to have a smart phone that would last me 2 days. This phone so far fits right in there, no worse no better. Haven't had it long enough to be a final decision though.
Yesterday I had it unplugged from 7am to 11:30pm and it was at 29%. This was with wifi off, BT off. Lots of usage, played a bunch of Angry Birds:SW, lots of texts/app downloads/heavy camera usage/etc...
In the end unless it makes it to the next morning at above ~55% it really doesn't matter, I'm going to have to charge it. All that matters to me is that i can make it through a day and so far this phone seems like it will be able to do that no problem. If you spent a heavy day of gaming and movies I suspect you would find yourself needing to charge again but that is inline with every other smartphone on the market unfortunately.
I've had the phone 72 hrs now. I previously had the 900, Focus S. I run my phone with bt, and WiFi on. I do not turn off lte or 4g. If the phone charge lasts from 6am till 330, then its good for me.
As with many new phones battery life in the first few weeks is not really accurate. Currently my 920 exhibits the same traits the 900 did.
I do light music and games, heavy internet and social contact, medium texting, but virtually no phone calls. As of now, this puts me in the 40-50% range. I expect it will get better as I stop experimenting with themes, lock screens and tile arrangements.
I've been able to use the Lumia 920 for one full day now and this is my battery information:
The information i'm about to put out is with; text messaging, internet, couple of phone calls, 15 minute gameplay, more surfing the internet
The battery information can be found ' Settings -> Battery Saver -> Battery Info '
Battery info:
Remaining battery life: 47%
Estimated time remaining: 3 days 3 hours (obviously meaning standby time)
Time since last charge: 20 hours
I took the phone off the charger at around 10pm last night and haven't used the charger since then.
My battery drains real fast. I think its down to 2 reasons: 1.data connection speed is set to 4G. 2.Loads of background apps running.
I dont have 4G in my area so the phone is swithing to 3G sometimes even poor 3G signal which makes it go to 2G. so if its constantly switching network signals that will drain battery fast. my Lumia has no option to keep it only on 2G, but i can change to 3G or 4G. If i could change it to 2G i guess the battery would last all day with no problems.
turning off background apps can also help reduce battery consumption.
btw i have a Lumia 920 bought from Phones4u using a TMobileUK sim
Ive had the 920 from the MS Build conference for a few weeks now.
1. I turned off NFC (tap to send). No need for it.
2. I turned off Bluetooth, unless I actually need it.
3. I ride the train for an hour to work, and an hour home, and use the internet sharing pretty much the whole way with my Surface.
4. I have it set to pull email from 3 different accounts, with it set to get items as they arrive, and I get a lot of email throughout the day.
5. The area I live in is all LTE.
6. I leave wifi turned on all the time, as I have it at home and at work.
7. I make a few calls during the day each day, but maybe only 20 or 30 total minutes at most.
I've found the battery life after a few weeks now to be excellent. Even after an hour of internet sharing on the train, it has only used 7% of the battery. Battery life seemed shorter during the first week or two, so i'm guessing everyone else will have similar results as the batteries get conditioned. I haven't had a problem with it running out of power before the end of the day. Early on it did, but it has gotten much better,

After a week, today , this is what I see also. My phone comes off the charger when full, last night it was 11:15pm. The charge sits at 85% with 40 hrs estimated time remaining.
I have BT, WiFi, Tap to Send on. I have gone into background tasks and blocked anything I don't want running. I have noticed that Nokia Drive+BETA, when on, really drains the battery, as does streaming from XBOX Music Cloud. So Nokia drive is blocked in background tasks and I do have Cloud Music turned off.
I drained the battery to under 10% last night....I'll try to push it tonight to get further.
But overall, I'm happy with the battery. I know I have some wiggle room with turning off BT and Tap to Send if I want.
Another day, another test.

I hope they allow that in a future update, when I know im going to be away from a charger for a while I always switch mine to 2g to get that extra bit of juice
I did cave and order a 920, t-mobile offered a silly retention deal, was going to get the 820 but for the price i thought why not!
Have had mine for almost 8 days now, same here. My battery life is excellent. I keep wifi/bt off unless in use. No LTE here.
I played Drag Race for a good 2 hours yesterday on top of texting a bunch, few pictures, normal browsing/FB/etc...
When I "plugged in" to go to bed I was still over 50%. (5:30am to 11pm)

Cell standby battery usage

I'm experimenting a bit to see if the Omate TS would be a usable replacement for a phone (ie if it would work well during the day to read notifications, use for sports tracking, recieve calls and such).
It started out well - when I took the watch off charging in the morning I activated the phone, WiFi, bluetooth and paired my bt headset, and turned off cell data. I played around with the phone a bit (installed an app, played with that for a few minutes, checked settings and tried some new things there for maybe 10 minutes or so, and so on). I recieved two calls that lasted about 5 minutes each, and checked mails, facebook and such a few times. After lunch the battery showed 78% remaining, which sounded very good.
I decided to take a walk, so I turned off WiFi, enabled cellular data, and turned on GPS. Listened to podcasts through BT headset for the entire walk. One hour walk with RunKeeper, where I checked mail and facebook a few times during the walk.
After returning, the battery was down a lot, to about 25%, ie 50% battery drained in one hour. I checked the battery stats, and it looked like this: (not a link as I can't post links yet due to forum restrictions): imgur.com/WPQJNd4
I'm not surprised about WiFi and BT consumption as I had those enabled and used them quite a lot during the day, but what surprised me is the cell standby adding up to almost 50% of the battery usage, most of which seemed to be drained when I enabled cell data. Is GPS drain included in cell standby as well? Is this to be expected, or what's causing the excessive drain when using cell data connection? Any tips on how to improve this?
My cell coverage during the walk was decent, as I was outdoors and had at least 3-4 bars of reception the entire time.
cell standby is also the highest drain on mine. was on 2g only as well

Mine usually says that too. Although it still easily lasts me the day with the cell on.

I get about 2 days of battery with emails only, light apps use. 3g and wifi on, no bluetooth connected, zero calls.
8 calls, some messages, BT always on with headset, on 2G GSM, light app usage with brightness on min and i ended on 4th day still with 40%battery left.

That's quite impressive!
I tried again today, took watch of charger when leaving for work. 1 call, 10-15 minutes of "play" (installed an app, changed some settings, re-arranged some icons and such). BT with headset, WiFi and phone enabled all day, mobile data connection off. Recieved quite a few notifications during the day that I checked briefly, but other than that quite idle. When leaving the office at the end of the day I had 52% battery remaining.
Not too bad, but out of that the cell standby and phone idle together consumed half of my battery. Reception is ok, ranging from 2 bars to full (goes a bit up and down). I can't complain about the wifi / bt / screen battery drain, seems the phone standby is the only major battery hog for me.
Cell Standby is a battery hog for me too : about 10% an hour. Cell signal is good. Will try now to disable the mobile data to see if it helps.

That's amazing, what is your setup (hw revision, firmware, settings, etc)?
Disabling cell, wifi, bt, gps, lowest brightness on modified stock (the 2014 testing as a base, ensec, xposed) and I can just make it barely back home on 2nd day with light usage (check the time mostly).
In comparison, my Pebble gets to 30-40% on the 4th day and will die out completely by the 6th day.
Even though the cell standby seems to drain a ton of battery, overall it's acceptable. For normal usage (WiFi on, BT on, paired with headset, phone on, a few widgets and apps that are pulling info from the web, receiving a couple of notifications per hour, checking time/notifications a few times, making a few calls and such) I seem to average about 6-8% per hour. Half of that is for the cell standby, so turning the phone off would probably double my battery life.
I know there are a number of "battery saving apps" out there that modify settings and behavior to save power. Mostly stuff like turn wifi off when screen is off, enabling it once every few minutes to check notifications, and similar. Anyone know if these apps can tune the phone power consumption in any way?

I started running Deep Sleep Battery Saver as I had prior experience with it working well on an SII as a set it and forget application, where other similar programs require much more customisation. keep in mind my omate is not a daily driver, it spends half the week on the charger and the other half on my wrist, and I only use a sim card in their sparingly. as such, I don't have proper data, but I've definitely been able to make it through the day with light usage, occasionally forgetting to recharge until the next day
I think there may be something wrong with either the battery or the circuitry which monitors and reports on the status. I can watch an hour long video with negligable 4% battery loss one day, and another day a similar video draining over 20%.
Certainly with all the radios switched off and very light usage my TS was on 92% well into it's 2nd day...
However soon as you use it... it gets murdered.... lol....
From wednesday till now, few calls, bluetooth on, some texts, very light usage.

Still amazing! Which model hardware do you have? what rom? are you running any additional apps or just what's default? I'd love to replicate your setup on my 1/8 1900
