Galaxy ace plus - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Samsung clearly didn't spend the holiday season kicking back listening to **** Clark, or else it wouldn't be able to show off the revamped edition of the Galaxy Ace: the Galaxy Ace Plus. Unimaginative names aside, the budget blower gets a speed bump, to last year's minimum spec -- 1GHz processor, five megapixel camera, 3GB internal memory, HSDPA and a 3.65-inch HVGA (320 x 480) screen (really, Samsung?). You'll get the same combination of Gingerbread and TouchWiz, so you might have to go elsewhere if you wanna upgrade to ICS. The cheapie phone will go on sale this month in Europe, Russia, Latin America, Asia, Africa and China, we guess retailing in the same bracket as its predecessor. [Q] Preformance Difference betwen Tegra and Exynos

So my ****hole of a country just announced we're getting the Samsung Galaxy S2 with the Trega 2 processors at 1.0 Ghz, but at least it's with the SAMOLED+.
It's the i9103 I'm guessing?
So are there any test or benchmarks of this version of the Galaxy S2 anywhere?
All of civilized civilization got the Exynos and obviously it a very good CPU. So all of the reviews out there are indeed of the 1.2 Ghz Exynos model.
So I can't really find a benchmark on the Terga 2 version.
Does anyone know of any tests?
UPDATE
In the end it turns out that this was just a press release mixup and Croatia is indeed getting the exynos version!
I feel you man But we'll be in the same boat when the NFC i9100 comes along...
I'd sure like to believe that... but considering that literally no one in Croatia uses NFC I doubt we'll get it at all.
It sucks. I guess that I will buy my device in Slovenija. Guess they will have exynos version?
One of my friends say:"My country-little banana"
Not a ****hole, it's a really nice country
Anyway, you can always import one from other countries, I imported mine from UK. Of course guarantee might be a problematic issue if anything goes wrong, but oh well...
I wouldn't be that concerned if I were you

Yeah problem is I don't really have 600€ or more to spend on the device I'd only get it on T-mobile because I have tons of points and I waited 6 months to renew the contract. So It would be more along the lines of 100~200€ with the contracts and stuff...
Also I live in Osijek and thats really far away from Austria, Italy or Slovenia...
It wouldn't bother me if the UK version was the Tegra 2, previously had a Optimus x2 with tegra 2 and it was nice and fast, wouldn't have concerned me either way but maybe look at some Optimus X2 benchies to give you an idea.
Before I sold the 2x to get this phone I had it clocked up to 1.4 gig without any issues but I can't for the life of me remember the quadrant score I got on it
It will probably be faster clock for clock....

Warranty means a lot these days...
As always, we in Croatia get crumbs...sad, real sad
At least with the Tegra 2, it will play all the new 3D HD-version games being released in the market whereas the Exynos version needs to wait for someone to hack the apk.
lol at OPs reference to his country
Anyway I had an atrix which I canned for an SGS2. I realize its not comparing apples to apples but the samsung feels a lot snappier / faster / smoother. I have the sammy powered with the exynos.

May I ask why you sold it to get the S2?
I think we can run the tegra games with the chainfire driver now cant we so that may no longer be an issue?
I also think that Exynos will start picking up support in some games anyway if it sells well enough.
I feel for you tegra lot
Performance Tests
You Can test it self download Quadrant standart from the android market
Exynos got = 3453 for me
Tegra got = ?
Just look at the tegra flash performance in web browsing. Exynos can take 1080 in web page. Can tegra do that?
We can tell: well it is not so bad, and lie to ourselves.
Do you think that all of the europe got exynos because it is worse? Do you think that they want so succeed more in Germany, France, UK or in Croatia? I think that they give best products to more "important", demanding, markets.
Seriously, the Tegra is not that far behind the Exynos, so as long as you get the SAmoled + screen and the full 1Gb Ram (which are the main differences with the optimus) you'll be fine.
If you see the benchmarks, the Tegra and the Exynos (optimus 2x vs SGS2) are pretty similar in performance, and both can be OCed if you need more power. The main difference in the benchmarks so far was the software (bloatware), and in your case, it'll be the same, no problems there. Simply wait for a good custom rom and enjoy!
Furthermore, you'll have better compatibility with games without hacks (God bless Chainfire!) and better texture support, so you'll be even better in some areas.
I would go ahead and grab the Tegra version. It may respond 0.025 seconds more slowly when browsing, but most of the phone functions will work just the same, you'll be able to play games of the Tegra zone without any glitch, and you'll get the phone at a much lower price and still have the warranty in case anything goes wrong!
edit: and just in case, to give some numbers:
h t t p : // w w w .inspiredgeek.com/2011/03/13/samsung-galaxy-sii-s2-exynos-4210-vs-tegra-2-which-version-will-be-better/
We all know that benchmarks don't really mean anything, the important thing is the response of the phone once you have it in your hands, but I don't think it'll be a bad phone for having Tegra, in any case.
Since I haven't posted enough, I can't post links, so please, remove the spaces of the url
I do not realy know when I needed my warranty last time - I belive it was with the Motorolo T920 or whatever was it (one of the first "colourfull" phones mamy years ago...).
I'w got my SGSII just yesterday and my first impression is - my SGS has better contrast then the SGSII...

It's not like I'm not used to it, its always been like that, we're just a second rate country.
I mean look at game prices here, hell even hardware prices like consoles at stuff.
300$ for a PS3 in America, 600$ for a PS3 in Croatia.

Well actually you see I'll get the phone at an inflated Croatian price thats higher then most EU prices, Exynos prices. You see Tegra isn't a lower cost alternative to Samsung but not the the countries it's being sold to, here it costs just as much as a Exynos one.
But I can't just buy/import a 600€ I don't have that money for god sakes thats the average monthly pay here, so the only way I can get it is via contract.
And via contract it will cost 100~200€ with all kinds of benifits that I have while in the UK you get a Samsung Galaxy S2 with Exynos for 0 pounds with a 35 pound monthly contract.

[Q] New phone (Denmark) 530 USDish

Hey guys yet another of these threads as i couldnt find a precise enough answer for what i was looking for.
So i live in Denmark and i was thinking max 3000 DKR which is about 530 USD
here is a website where you can see the danish prices (i think phones are pricey in denmark compared to most of the world)
edbpriser .dk/telefoni/mobil/mobiltelefon-u-abn.aspx (i havent got enough posts to post links but i hope this is okay)
right now i got a htc hero but its touchscreen tend not to work, i have read the tricks to fix it but id rather buy a new phone cause i think its too slow (even with a 1.6 speed rom)
1. max 3000 DKR / 530 USD
2. A phone that the community like making roms for I like to try out new roms and i like to push the phone to the limit.
3. It has to be an android phone and it would be soo lovely if it have an official ICS rom or just an community ICS rom .
4. I am a bit against Sony (Ericsson) because they love making new codecs and special sony sd cards and what not but if that isnt the case with their phones then its okay.
5. It would be nice with an decent camera or in other words a camera that dont make you go "time to take an picture oh wait my phone takes forever to take a picture/has too bad auto focus lets just forget about that picture"
And another question although it depends on the person i guess, when is a display too big? right now with my htc hero the size is 3,2" and i find it hard to imagine having a 4" phone in my pocket so if you got any thoughts on that it would be nice to hear em
Thanks!
-Hapse
I know you said max 3k, but samsung galaxy s2 (around 3,4k) would probably give you the most bang for the buck. Good performance, nice camera and the community is large for roms.
However i think 4,3" is too large for myself (having 4") ^^

yea i looked at the galaxy s2 in the shop and wow 4,3" is big! i dont know if i can get used to it but then again i said the same when i went from 32" to 42" on my tv and now i just feel like its a standard size but thank you for your reply
anyone else got some thoughts/recommendations?
Jeg har selv lige købt en Galaxy Nexus (hehe danish), but if you can stretch uour price range just a bit, I would go for the Samsung SII. It has the most bang for the buck.
That phone is still super fast, has a very nice display and takes good pictures. ICS has just been released ans it has LOTS of rom support! I would have bought that, if I hadn't already set my mind on the Nexus
I know you can get it cheap in Elgiganten.
Otherwise the bew Lumia Windowsphone is quite nice too
By the way, the screen will not be a problem, when the phone is as thin as it is! My Nexus has a 4.65" and I can't imagine having a smaller screen. Your phone becomes so much more than phone. It' infinitaly better to browse on, game on, use apps on, watch videos on etc... Trust me you will not regret it! Unless you have small hands... I can't type on less than a 4"

i guess ill have a look at it again in the shops tak for dit svar

S2 price...dropping so fast!

hi all ..i have been eyeing on the s2 ever since it was released ..the problem is the price is so steep back then ...RM2100 ..but about 6 months later it dropped to RM 1900 ...then just last week it dropped to RM 1648 ..and today it dropped to RM 1558! it dropped RM100 in a week!? thats insane!! ..just wondering does anyone know the cause of it ?
S3 due out, HTC One due out, Xperia S out, Xperia P due out, Droid Razr Maxx due out. And so on....
And the S2 is a year old now...
Not rocket science.
i am pretty new to smartphones ..but a drop of RM600 in a course of a year is pretty crazy in my eyes ..or is this very common? i also realized that my bro's Galaxy S used to cost nearly RM2000! when it came out ..now my bro bought it for a 2nd hand for RM620 ...wow ....are smartphone prices so unstable? will the s2 cost a mere RM1000 at the end of the year?
Not unstable, simply Market forces. This is how it works, pay top price as an early adopter.
oh...thanks! oh and is the s2 is good phone ? cause i am thinking of other alternatives like htc sensation , xperia s , and arc s ...s2 is great but it ..soooo common and it's design ain't that appealing ..
I have a personal preference for SE phones, they are very well engineered and have been utterly reliable when used all over the world for me. Never missed a beat. But, I also like the SGS2, it is light and fast. The screen resolution is poor compared with Xperia, but has a greater contrast ratio. I don't understand why Samsung omit the notification LED from their phones, so I use "NoLED" from the Market to act as a notification alert. It works well on an OLED screen - very Nokia C7!
Your choice, ultimately. If you don't like the looks of the SGS2 now, you may never do so. So you might not "love" it as an owner.
In the Netherlands the price is still over 400 euro`s , more thant 600 us dollars.
Dude we love S2 not coz of " cute". But its a beast in hardware capabilities and the awesome dev section in XDA

you have to take note that in recent years, smartphone technologies have progress in lighting speed. At the start of 2010, phone with 1Ghz processor was top of the leauge, in 2011, it's duo core who catch the show (Where Galaxy S2 shine), and now its 2012, where quad core and 720p HD screen host the show, specification of galaxy S2 as of today only worth as a medium class. How much you would expect people pay for a medium class phone?
Other than Apple product, where apple have control over their retail price, it's natural for their price to drop as technogies advance. Well, only idiot apple fan would pay for overprice piece of product near it's debut retail price when it's so obsolete.

I don`t agree with you, had a galaxy note for 2 months and sold it again and went back to the s2. The s2 is way faster, more responsive and has imo a better screen. This is after a year still a top three device, but that`s just me
IMO even till now s2 is still pretty beastly ..at least quadrant , nenamark wise ..it still the highest in the business even after so long ...even higher than Xperia S , nexus ...
Tell me about it.
I bought my SG2 last month for 760$ (in Israel). Now it sells for 670$.

[Q] moving to Pantech Secret Note BUT...

hi all,
i really want to move from note 3 to pantech secret note mainly due to the higher screen estate at fhd 5.9". However i love my note 3 multimedia dock which i hook up to a 27" via hdmi, mouse and keyboard i virtually have a full pc.
hence does the pantech secret note support the samsung multimedia dock or does pantech release a similar dock???
also hopefully pantech release this beast internationally
I'm not sure. If there is a forum for the Pantech, you might want to ask there.

Pantech isn't a very popular brand name. I am guessing that its lack of popularity will affect its support and mods.

This was true a few years back, but now the brand is gain popularity under the vega name with good smartphones in the korean market like vega 6, 850, 860 and 870 etc.
Sorry to stray off subject, but can you send us a link so we can learn more about that phone?

so you want to get another phone with exactly the same specs as the Note 3 because its slightly bigger (.25 inches bigger), from a company that is not as developed as Samsung. the screen is minimally bigger and that just means that the pixiel density is less... its still a 1080p screen as the Note 3. i wouldn't even consider it. coming from a Note 2, the Note 3 is an upgrade cause of the ram size, extra storage (32gb) and the 1080p screen but from the Note 3 to the Pantech, its no upgrade at all.
think about it carefully before you jump ship. i had a Note 2, and the Note 3 is no upgrade in terms of screen size, but its as upgrade because of specs...
and as you said, you love the accessories available to the Note 3, you're going to give those up for. 25" bigger screen size? its actually less than .25", its closer to .20" screen size. both devices side by side you wouldn't even notice the screen size difference...

Not much info on this beast even on their site (US), in Korea try pantech.co.kr
It is basically a Galaxy Note 3 spec with 5.9FHD screen and a finger scanner is the difference I think

True it is not much of an upgrade but I think of it as the note2 5.5" to pantech 5.9".
I can predict the next iteration of Note 4 will have a 5.9" screen so I figure I might as well jump on the bandwagon now with the Pantech.
Accessories are a problem with Pantech amongst other things as well such as releasing it internationally
Still the Note 3 is the top end mobile phone but I feel there is not much change between my note 2 and note 3. By change I mean the way i use the phone which is mainly surfing the net, email and video about 70% and 30% for phone/sms activities. I blame this entirely on the software side though since the hardware is top spec. I constantly toggle between dolphin, firefox and maxthon to get a desktop like browser but it is still lagging behind in term of supporting flash properly and running multiple tab simultaneously. Multi-windows is cumbersome at this stage and firefox don't allow it either.
Oh well, I need my Google Glass asap

true, but you're saying you want to go from a Note 3 to the Pantech (note 2 is comparison is irrelevant), and the note 4 might have a 5.9" screen but it'll be pushing quad core 3.0ghz.or even an octo-core 2.something ghz... and might even be pushing higher resolution as 4K is the new standard. it'll always be the next best thing. im not trying to change your mind, im just giving you a different perspective. either way good luck on the swap, might be perfect for you or we might continue to see you lurking around here

So you are actually saying that a company has to sell around 5 million of a single model to be classified as a well know or a popular brand, then I don't really see any company in the world know to be known popular brand.
Jumping from Samsung to Pantech does not necessary mean a down grade either, people have there choices. I have a note 2, this does not mean I have to buy a note 3, as long as it's a new model that fits for my needs or that I like, that's what really matters, and Pantech does offer many good phones, especially the vega iron that really interest me.
Pantech may not be a brand know worldwide to everyone, but they are very big in korea, and does have a small share of the smartphone market , especially the asian market.

yes it is true.. i live in korea and ive used a lot of different models of sky (vega), samsung, and lg. and i can assure you pantech's phones can be comparable to those big names like samsung, i personally prefer pantech's phone over samsung cause its cheaper but the specs, performance and durability is almost the same.
I dont know ho many of us knows that Samsung own 40% of Pantech. Samsung is also directly reponsible for Marketing Pantech phones.

Samsung only bought 10% of Pantech. Here's the article. They were in trouble with debt and needed help to get a grasp of their finances.

I love cheap and big spec-ed phones exactly like the Pantech but sadly, they dont have any developers to make ROMs. I'm thinkin' of buying the Pantech Vega NO6 FYI.
