I just messed up(bent) the metal around charging port of my TFP. i had my tablet connected to charger cable with asus sleeve cover on it. ignoring that the charger cable is still connected i tried to open the sleeve gently and i quickly realized that cable is still on(as i was unable to fold the sleeve cover completely to the back of the tablet) and disconnected the cable. Then i discovered that upper thin metal strip on charger port got bent(upwards) pretty badly and the lower metal parts got small dents. i didn't even apply much stress when opening the sleeve cover. the metal seems to be pretty delicate particularly the upper strip as i adjusted it with my fingers without needing to apply much stress.
so keep this in mind when using any kind of case while charging cable connected.
Lol! It happened to me once but the connector got ejected when I closed the cover again.
Luckily nothing broke

Post a piccy ?
****, happened to me too, i have a 2 year warranty from office depot though, so i'll probably switch it out in the future. As of now it's not causing any problems but just knowing it's there kinda bugs me. Stupid case, it's supposed to protect my tab not mess it up!
Yikes, thanks for the heads up!

I always try and keep that little protector that came with the prime when i first got it in the port.
Yeah, I'm always really careful when I disconnect the TFP from its charger..

Same thing here. If its not charging, it has that protector in it. When it is charging, I put the protector clipped to my case.
Autobots, roll out! Sent from my Transformer Prime!
This happened to me but somehow it is slightly bent the other way (inwards). Luckily the charger and GPS dongle still fit!
I noticed that this happened with mine a couple of days ago. Luckily, its pretty easy to bend it back, but I'll just have to be careful about it from now. I didn't even know that's what caused it.

Does anyone know how to take a G-Tab apart and repair a broken power connector? My son pulled it off of the table where it was charging and it landed squarely on the adapter where it was plugged into the GTab. Everything else works, but charging, of course, does not.

Choice 1: Buy a dock.
Choice 2: Open it up and solder it back in.
Choice 3: Sell your son to a slave labor camp and use the money to buy a new tablet.
Stolen from another forum about performing a hardware reset:
Disassemble the tablet. Remove the four rubber stoppers on the bottom of the tablet (put them aside). Next, unscrew the screws under them (keep those too). Next we need to get the back half of the tablet off. Put the tablet face down on a piece of paper or another protective material. Gently work one corner of the tablet until the two halves are slightly separated, then use something thin like a business card to keep them slightly parted. You can then use something thin and strong, like a plastic gift card to zip around the edges and break the seal. Prying will only damage your plastics.

pulling it apart is one thing, resoldering the connection is another. I've read that it's really tricky (and small) Mine started acting up, had to have the plug on a weird angle for the tablet ot start charging. I thought it was the chord, but it must be the hardware inside the tablet that caused it. I bought a dock, and a second charger...the dock works BEAUTIFULLY for charging, and for watching movies on the big screen via the HDMI port on the dock...
Viewsonic G connector input jack power jack
If you need to replace the jack, you can get it at Ebay.....just type in Viewsonic G jack or power jack and they have them there.
Does anyone else have a bent silver boarder (champagne Prime) around the charging port? I have never dropped my tablet. I have only charged it once. It is still in the plastic lining that it came in, awaiting its case. I have no idea how it could have possibly been bent. I have heard of accidentally opening a case with the charging port cutout while still connected to the charger, but I don't have a case yet.
Yes, I have a dent at the charging port that didn't allow me to dock the Prime.
I have no idea how it was dented (I treat this thing like a baby), but I have ordered a hard case for it and now keep it docked when I put it in its soft case.
The metal around my charging port on the glass side got bent by the connector in the keyboard dock somehow. I've had it docked for about a week, took it out just now, saw it, and bent it back into place. Worrisome, but don't think it'll affect anything.

Yes, the prime, including the transformer have very thin piece of metal around charging port. If you stress it in anyway such as barely dropping it, it will bend at that place. Since it's so soft there, you can just bend it right back into place, but I would try not to drop it
Mine is on RMA because of a very thin piece of metal above the left dock, but below the glass was missing. I didn't drop it. I had it 4 days and just noticed it didn't quite look the same. With the way the undercarriage folds under I was more worried about pixels light bleed and all the other potential issues that I just didn't pay attention.
Wasn't dropped either, so we shall see what Asus says.
A case is on order lol.
Lol yet another quality issue...
Mine was bent after a day of using it, no dock, never charged
mine was bent from the moment i took it out of the box.. but it not bad so i didnt think of it too much..
Mine has this issue as well I already posted about it here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445024
Mine too!
It must be caused by the dock. Mine has it too.
The prime I just RMA with Asus (screen issues) also has the metal near the glass on the charging port bent. Also the plastic cover on the USB comes off easily when pulling the usb out of the charger adapter.
Yeah I had this. I think though it was caused by the way i hold mine with my left hand in portrait mode. I carefully straightened it and try to be more careful!

I am having a problem with the prime casing.
Its kinda hard to explain so i made some pictures. What should i do?
Did you receive it that way? It is strange, especially since I don't think the charger would be nearly strong enough to bend the aluminum....sounds like an rma

Call ASUS, ask the representative for an email address to send your photos to and/or how to proceed. You souls be able to get an RMA. You could return it to the store though for a replacement or refund.
I am a bit worried about the bend because it might be stressing the glass (last thing I want) along with the discoloration (no idea what is causing it but its ugly and I don't like spending $500 on something like that.)
I could be wrong....but didn't you post this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494021
Looks like self inflicted? and would explain the damage.....
So Lets Review:
You dropped your prime
Noticed Damage
Maybe you can find someone that can help you bend it back so that it does not stress the glass.
Also might have been able to tie these 2 threads together.

First up, the drop was face down so it would not have discolored the back.
Second up, the drop was face down and nothing was plugged in. Thus, that wasn't what damaged it. Besides, the drop happened BEFORE (like a week) that this damage was noticed. (Im not entirely sure how this happened.)
And third up, while I showed the bent metal, I was more worried about the pressure that it might be exerting on the glass.
And finally, I am worried about why the back is discoloring which is NOT user damage.
Looks to me like something's eating away a protective coating...
Have you handled your Prime after coming in contact with rubbing alcohol or anything similar? (like Germ-X)
And you can bend the little piece of metal above the charging dock back, it's not doing anything to your screen. Mine got bent when I started my opening process right in that spot and went right back with no problem...

With my fingernail
The tablet feels sturdy and all, but aluminum is ridiculously soft and light (why it's used).
Again, mine happened when opening the tablet and so was bent the other direction, but it didn't take anything at all to shape it back.
"... and here you can see it's not bent..." much lol
uncontrollably lulzing at the next coupl'a comments

Well practiced ... uhh ... fingers??? You know, from all that tapping on the screen!
it happened to me too...I didn't notice notice by the 3rd week of using it. It must be bent when charging it, or it was shipped that way....anyway, the aluminum is very soft. I probably bended by the charger's adapter.
I've also bent mine back into shape, I think the charger bent it, as it was within days of getting the thing, long before I ever dreamed of opening it. I also used my finger.

my first prime had that also I thought it was from opening and closing the dock but my new one hasn't budged even in the dock. I am now thinking that it came that way ( I noticed it 2-3 days after I got it). I now think that maybe it happens in the factory if they dock them to load the OS or do diagnostics of some sort before shipping them and the tech just isn't careful docking or undocking.

Yeah, looks that way to me as well. Man, you really did a number on this one in a short period of time, eh? Lots of scuffs and scratches on the back, bent charge port on the front....
Hard to believe it just happened on its own accord. Those are the typical scuff marks you would see on brushed metal that had been rubbed and scraped. And the scratches on the back are pretty bad as well.
I have the bent charge port as well. Looks like the HDMI port is bent up as well. The cable connections are very loose, and I'm sure this is part of the cause. I have been struggling with the HDMI port since it stopped working lately, but it very surprising how this could happen so easily.

Did I mention my headphone jack is as loose as a 60 ye- never mind. I'm sure you get the picture.
so, i go to unplug my prime today from it's usb charging cable, and out falls a little grey, thin piece of plastic that is clearly used for something to do with the pins. upon further inspection, it is a broken piece that came out of the prime itself. I'll try to upload a pic. anyone experience this unbelievable crappiness?
Ouch. That looks like the plastic piece that keeps the pins aligned and separated inside of the Prime itself. This is NOT good.
Hopefully it's out of the charger cable and not the tablet itself. It is part of the pin structure.
Edit - on further inspection of your picture and looking at my charging cable and charging port it appears to be part of the tablet. Looks like you'll be in RMA hell like me very soon (See my blacks turned to red thead).
yeah its out of the prime itself....rma here i come
Rma process has been great to me, they received it on the 24 completed wifi fix today and I will get it on Thursday. Not how long it would take for that fix

I hate how the charger doesn't sit steady in the port because of the curved edge of the Prime.
I think this could be caused by that, maybe the charger plug bent and broke off that piece inside the tablet.
Hi just got myself a DK30 docking station. I have a case and two tempered glasses (front and back) installed, and its having a hard time fitting into the dock's tiny gap. It fits into the wider adapter without the case but its too wide. Have you guys come across with this problem or have a solution to this?
Looking forward to hear from you guys
I took the cable out of dock, the magnet is really weak but i only use it for overnight charging so it works great for me. You can also try to remove the space thats in the dock and put phone directly in

I have a magnetic cable too but it's so lousy it only works in specific angles. I cannot move the phone at all while charging.
I tried that too but the gap is even wider the phone will not stay still
Fixed it by sticking a scotch tape on the wider adaptor. The gap is filled by the tape perfectly
