Hello all,
I've been using the wifi-hotspot lately on my SGT GT-P300. I only just noticed that when doing so, the divice is sharing the 3G connection.
My question is if it's possible to share my own wifi connection instead of 3G? So the SGT acts like some sort of router?
Must be easier to just connect direcly to the router instead of sharing the wifi thru the pad?
As far as I know wifi-hotspot is only for sharing the 3g connection.
If you already have a wifi network it must be better to connect directly to that with another device.
Very true, but my wifi signal in my room is weak and keeps disconnecting atleast once every 2 minutes. For my Nexus S and Galaxy S II that is, SGT signal is as strong as it can get.

Hey guys,
I have two routers at home and one is set to work as a repeater bridge. It works fine as I can connect to both routers wirelessly through my laptop without problems.
On my SGS2 however, connection works flawlessly with the main router, but keeps hanging and restarting when connected to the router. I can actually browse the web and ping main router, but connection lasts ~1min than drops for ~30sec than connects again and remains in this loop.
Guess its a rather specific problem but has anyone ever had some similar problem?
yeap. Same problem.. I have a DD-WRT in the living room and a NetGear one in my room. The NetGear is acting as a repeater to the DD-WRT which is the base. It works with laptops running Windows 7 as I've observed so far. No luck with CM7 running on HTC Desire Z though..
Same issue here running CM 10.1 on Nexus S. Connection to dd-wrt which is the secondary keeps dropping and shows up as poor quality connection... any ideas anyone ?
just try Gargoyle instead of DD-wrt. Personally I had no problem with either, but Gargoyle is more user friendly, with a lots more features.
How much connection speed you get on SGS2. I can't cross 65mbps
Hello to all, I'm wondering if other is anyway to connect my phone to my home router then broadcast that signal to my prime. So instead of using my data from my 3g I would just be rebroadcasting my home wifi signal. I think this would be a type of band aid until the prime gets some kind of fix for wifi farther than 20ft. I thought of this when I went outside and my prime had no signal but my phone did. I thought it would be nice to piggy back that wifi signal my phone is picking up on. I have a tethering plan on my phone that works fine but when I'm right outside my house I hate to use data when my wifi is simi-free.
Thanks to all for any response.
I've been reading about mifi cards as alternative but then thought " is their anyway to buy a unlocked (I'm assuming their locked to carriers) mifi card and instead of it picking up 3g or 4g date can it be modded to pick up the closest or strongest wifi signal and then use its hotspot ability to transmit it." I'm not sure but I would assume that it would have a pretty good receiver in it, at least better than the prime in its current state.
If these are crazy ideas... I can take it I'm a big boy

What about a bog standard wireless access point or repeater, as that way you do not have to worry about connecting to yer phone?
Not sure if this I correct but is a bog standard router just a better router? Also I think a repeater would probably work I just can't seem to be able to find a battery operated small one (pocket sized). The problem I'm running into is that as a firefighter most of our firehouses are brick and concrete with steel mixed in, not the bet setup for wifi. My phone is able to pick up the wifi from pretty far away even though the signal is poor to fair but my prime is not. So I need something that I can slip into my pocket that will pick up the weak signal and boost or simply give the prime a closer access point. We rove to different stations almost everyday so it needs to be something portable. Hopefully this clears up my situation.
Thank you for your reply.
I think you cant connect and broadcast the wifi signal at the same time with your phone. You either use the antenna and hardware to receive a signal or you use it to broadcast but not both at the same time.
Correct me if i'm wrong though
Well that might kill my cell phone idea.... their has to be something that can be done. Besides just fixing the prime.
I have done what you have said but it does depend on what cellphone you currently own. I have a Samsung Galaxy Captivate with an ICS rom and so my phone is able to transfers a Wifi connection right to my prime using Bluetooth.
Also, seems that when my phone loses WiFi connection and switches to 3g my prime auto disconnects so I don't use up my 3g bandwidth.
That sounds about what I need. You don't know if its only that phone? I have a inspire 4g running ICS from the dhd board. Is it app your using or built into your phone or ICS?
I am using the method that is built into the OS.
On your Phone:
Settings -> More... (under Wireless and Networks) -> Tethering and Portable Hotspot ->Bluetooth tethering.
Connect your prime and phone using Bluetooth.
On your Prime:
Settings -> Bluetooth -> Settings button beside your phone's name -> Internet Access
Then if it works the text "Use for internet Access" will switch to "Connected to devices for Internet"
Bluetooth tethering is super slow, there are some apps were you can tether your wifi connection while connected to another wifi network.
Can't think of the name of the top of my head, maybe someone else knows..
Bluetooth tethering worked with my phone so thank you. It does seem to be a lot slower but this was a bandaid for my prime so at least it works. Slow speed is better than nothing. Cost cutter It would be nice if I could find that app your talking about. Was it on the market?
Is it possible to have multiple bluetooth connections without fracturing thoroughput? I.e. run Tablet Talk at the same time.
You might also try a USB wifi stick if you have the dock or adapter.

Hello everyone,
I have bought a Transformer Prime last summer and it's an awesome tablet until now but it has a flaw as everyone knows with its WiFi. I can get no reception at all if I am at a distance from the router and sometimes this is bad.
My HTC Desire though never loses signal and with its 3g connectivity it is great. So I sometimes share my Data connection to my prime and surf the internet but now I have a question and it seems I cannot answer it online.
Is there a way I can share the WIFI connection OVER WIFI ??? If I open Wifi Hotspot the connection is lost. As I see it, there can only be a mode at once, either client or as a hotspot.
Is there a way to make your phone both ? In other worlds can I connect to a wifi connection and share it at the same time ?
Thank you
No, you can't, I think because there's only one antenna.
You can use a range extender or a router with this function, but it's surely more expensive.
You need a wireless repeater or range extender. It's not that expensive.
Buy Two routers that support ddwrt or tomato. They are pretty cheap now unless you want a Simultaneous Dual-Band Wireless-N router.
This is my set up.
Belkin Play N600 HD Wireless Dual-Band N+ Router - $30 from 1salesaday.
Flashed Tomato 1.28 firmware
Wireless 1 : Wifi - G 2.4Ghz
Wireless 2: Wifi - N 5Ghz
I have another old Asus RT-N12 on 2nd floor.
I think I paid $30 from newegg long time ago.
Flashed ddwrt and set it up as repeater. It basically connects to Belkin Wifi -G and broadcast wifi-G under another SSID
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Universal_Wireless_Repeater
Wireless 3 : Wifi - G 2.4Ghz
This might work but it's still a wired connection.
Disconnect your phone from mobile data, connect to your wifi router, plug in the USB from your tablet to your phone, enable USB tethering on your phone.
This way your phone is acting like an access point for your tablet. I've used this method on old desktops that can't connect to wireless routers but it might also work when an Android tablet is receiving the signal.
Connect your phone to wifi, share your connection with your tablet via bluetooth.

+1 this is what I do sometimes, although Bluetooth has bad latency and is limited to about 1mbit/sec

How can I share it with bluetooth ? I have an HTC Desire that uses Oxygen Rom....In settings I only find USB Tethering and WiFi Hotspot...Or do i need another app ?
Thank you all for the information
edit: I managed to do this with FoxFi on my phone and PDANET on the tablet over bluetooth.... Thank you all

Sv: Can wifi repeater resolve room wifi ?
Yes,it will help. I have one, but not same model and it increased a lot my wifi range. I can have my Prime connected to my house Internet with full bars anywhere I am inside the house. It is a very cheap solution as I got mine for something like $65.

Hey guys,
I just purchased the tablet z and I am very happy with it. Although I find wifi speeds very very slow!! Sometimes I feel my 4g speeds is faster. Is anyone else experiencing this? I've got a fibre broadband connection so its definitely not my WiFi. Anyways I have other devices connected to my WiFi at home and they are all faster
Any tips or solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
Have read in many forums of setting router to use 5Ghz if it supports it, and a fixed channel (ch9 is often mentioned) as opposed to "auto" settings... Obviously everything you want to use on network will have to be compatible...
