Hi all,
A while ago I my launcher began restarting itself very frequently. I thought it was the app (ADWLauncher EX) so I switched to GO Launcher and it still happened. So I guessed something was corrupted in the OS and I upgraded from 2.2 to 2.3.3. Still restarting frequently. Going back to the newest version of ADW Launcher didn't help either. Today I switched to SPB Shell 3D and guess what? It happens more than ever!
There is no force close message, but when I press the home button I have to wait for the launcher to start up again (several times per hour).
Something in my phone doesn't like launchers. Everything was fine until a couple of months ago when this problem suddenly appeared.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions?
Specs:
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S Captivate (I896)
OS: 2.3.3 (Samsung stock)
Carrier: Rogers (Canada)
No app killer running
Thanks in advance,

This is due to alot of ram being used and the OS is closing it out. A custom rom sets the launcher at a harder to level.
It is because your phone has less ram available on that time. If you are loading a heavy Ram software, it will automatically kill those apps so it will have more ram to load those heavy stuff. It is usual.

Thanks for the replies. Everything was fine until a couple of months ago so I must have installed a memory-hog app at some point.
How can I tell which app is using all the RAM?
Thanks in advance,
Barry

Hi,
I've got a problem with Launcher Pro - it restarts everytime I return to it from an app.
I tried getting rid of a few background apps to decrease the used memory and tinkered with the memory settings of Launcher Pro - all to no help
Anyone got an idea what might be the problem here?
Froyd 1.2.2 w/ shipped kernel
try uninstalling pro launcher and reinstalling that worked for me in the past
I updated to 7.6.0, and up till now, no fcs!

I'm using the same FV 1.2.2 Rom and I must say that the same thing has been happening to my Hero. In fact, since installing FV 1.2.2, I have been getting so many FC's from Launcher Pro and music tracks keep stopping in mid stream.
I also find that the phone just switches itself off randomly.
Almost returned to VR12.0 because I had NO trouble with it but saw an update to Launcher Pro (I bought the 'Plus' version) and just installed it, so lets hold thumbs.
so i have had my phone for 11 days now and it's been a very good phone (coming from a blackberry, iphone 3g, now this) but today I have noticed some real peoblems. Besides going threw 3 sim cards in less then 2 weeks but my phone has been freezing up alot today about 5 time and the only way I could get it back working was to take the battery out Any ideas?
During freezing I was playing angry birds, surfing the web, going threw android market, running speed test. I am getting "force close" alot also when getting on the XDA app(during loading latest topics) Thanks for any input!

Looks like you have to do some trouble shooting. When the FCs started have you installed any application recently that may cause that like a task killer or a launcher app like Launcher pro, ADW EX, Go launcher? If not there are so many bad apps in the market that can cause force closes. I would factory wipe your phone. Of course all your settings and customizations are gone then; so be careful what you have to save before doing that. I would try the phone for some hours without any app from the market. If you still get force closes it is most likely the phone. If everything is ok...start to install all your apps but little by little so that you can pin point the bad app.
I have launcher pro. I will remove it and see what happens

Launcher Pro probably isn't your problem as most of the people I know with atrix's use it.
Hello, I'd like to ask if anyone found any issues with the following apps as I did:
- WidgetLocker Lockscreen
- Zombie Tsunami
Zombie Tsunami hangs and crashes after a few seconds of running it, and it only happens to my S3. My friends and colleagues who are also on the S3 can run their app just fine, and we're all on the same version of the app. I've tried reinstalling, but no luck.
With regards to WidgetLocker, I can't add widgets to it. This was an issue with the app for the past few months or so, but even after yesterday's update I still can't add any. That said, the app may still just be broken.
In any case, I'm wondering whether it's my phone that's the problem. I'm running stock rooted JB 4.1.2, XXEME2. Thanks.
Factory reset
I have recently started have a problem when "waking up" my Galaxy S4, rooted, with Android 5.0.1. Here is what happens:
Press the "wake up" key (power or home)
Lock screen appears and quickly disappear
Last screen used (home screen, app. etc.) may flash
A blank home screen wallpaper appears (no icons) for a short period of time (about 2 seconds)
Last screen used appears again for a short time. (about 2 seconds)
Lock screen finally appears and the device can be unlocked
This started happening within the last two to three weeks. I have tried uninstalling of freezing applications like Facebook and others that might wake up when the phone does and grab focus. Same with apps, like weather apps that have items in the notification area. I have uninstalled and re-installed Nova launcher. I've killed applications. All to no avail. I have run traces with 3C Toolbox and the only thing that appears to be implicated is "System UI" - but I have made no changes to the OS since going to 5.0.1 (just stock, rooted) some time ago.
So … I'm baffled and I would welcome assistance from anyone who is seeing the same thing or anyone that might have a solution.
Thank you.

I guess that this is stock rom.
One thing samsungs touchwiz is full of bloat apps, too much stuff which uses memory, take a ram and spend cpu cycles, that will burn up your device (less performance a d battery overtime)
Mine sugestion is to flash for ehample Cyanogen mod, and you will see the difference

Thank you for your suggestion, and I have wanted to do that, but I didn't think there was a version of Cyanogen Lollipop for the Verizon S4 (SCH-I545). Can you point me to it?

Solution
Thanks to all for reviewing this post. Just to let you know, I have found the problem and solution. First I restarted in "Safe Mode" and confirmed that the problem is not in the operating system. Using the "ES Task Manager" application I killed applications. It was strange to me that "Indrix Traffic" was running and I hadn't started it. I killed it and tried power off/power on. Bingo! I uninstalled Indrix Traffic and it has been fine since then. I like Indrix so will consider re-installing it, but I was very happy to find the solution.

In fact, I think that only restarting in Safe Mode is enough to solve the problem. I had same problems started some weeks ago and couldn't find a cure till now. Tried to do what you did and (of course, I didn't have Indrix) I just sleep and wake-up the phone, seeing that in safe mode all was OK. After restarting also, restart normally and all was ok also. So just going to Safe mode once fix the problem, no need to uninstall nothing.
Can somebody explain that?
While searching the web today on my SM-T860 it suddenly crashed and when it tried to reboot it only got as far as the Samsung logo. The power button alone did not do anything. The tablet restarted by pressing all three buttons together. This has never happened with any other Android device for 'no reason'. Has anyone else experienced this?
Same happened to my last night. I was trying to download a jpeg file that wouldn't open and it crashed after setting it using another way to download it. It was stuck in reboot loop without response from the buttons.
I've not experienced any issues. I'm still running Pie OneUi (v1.5) and the SK1 build.
Might be a good idea to post what firmware you're both running to see if one of the newer versions has introduced a bug - Right now, you're not going to gather any useful information except that it's not just your device that has crashed.
My new one did that right out of the box and had to be returned. It would never get past the Samsung logo, could not be turned off with the power button, and would not go into recovery mode. The exchanged unit worked just fine.
Maybe it's the latest update or some kind of bug though and it only works when using the chrome then downloading at this site a wallpaper. You'll be getting a broken jpeg file and after opening it that's where the problem started.

This happened to me 3 times now, almost sent the tablet back to Samsung. It usually happens with I set up a new Wallpaper using a 3rd party launcher (home replacement). Stayed away from messing with 3rd party launchers and it's been working great for me. Scary.
me too still running Android 9 with OneUI 1.5. No crash ever happened yet.
I'm rooted with Android 9, UI 1.5. I had an almost plain red background on my tab (attached?). I had two crashes in abouut 1 week and have had maybe a total of 6.
I have now gone back to the stock launcher and Samsung default wallpaper just today. I wonder if that will make a difference like someone suggested here?

Bloody hell, it crashed again using stock launcher, not sure if hardware or software issue...
Well, it crashed again and now I have updated to Android 10 with Odin. I did not flash TWRP or root the Tab, bootloader still unlocked and using Nova, lets see what happens......
