Wakeup to lock screen delay S4 Android 5.0.1 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have recently started have a problem when "waking up" my Galaxy S4, rooted, with Android 5.0.1. Here is what happens:
Press the "wake up" key (power or home)
Lock screen appears and quickly disappear
Last screen used (home screen, app. etc.) may flash
A blank home screen wallpaper appears (no icons) for a short period of time (about 2 seconds)
Last screen used appears again for a short time. (about 2 seconds)
Lock screen finally appears and the device can be unlocked
This started happening within the last two to three weeks. I have tried uninstalling of freezing applications like Facebook and others that might wake up when the phone does and grab focus. Same with apps, like weather apps that have items in the notification area. I have uninstalled and re-installed Nova launcher. I've killed applications. All to no avail. I have run traces with 3C Toolbox and the only thing that appears to be implicated is "System UI" - but I have made no changes to the OS since going to 5.0.1 (just stock, rooted) some time ago.
So … I'm baffled and I would welcome assistance from anyone who is seeing the same thing or anyone that might have a solution.
Thank you.

I guess that this is stock rom.
One thing samsungs touchwiz is full of bloat apps, too much stuff which uses memory, take a ram and spend cpu cycles, that will burn up your device (less performance a d battery overtime)
Mine sugestion is to flash for ehample Cyanogen mod, and you will see the difference

Thank you for your suggestion, and I have wanted to do that, but I didn't think there was a version of Cyanogen Lollipop for the Verizon S4 (SCH-I545). Can you point me to it?

Solution
Thanks to all for reviewing this post. Just to let you know, I have found the problem and solution. First I restarted in "Safe Mode" and confirmed that the problem is not in the operating system. Using the "ES Task Manager" application I killed applications. It was strange to me that "Indrix Traffic" was running and I hadn't started it. I killed it and tried power off/power on. Bingo! I uninstalled Indrix Traffic and it has been fine since then. I like Indrix so will consider re-installing it, but I was very happy to find the solution.

In fact, I think that only restarting in Safe Mode is enough to solve the problem. I had same problems started some weeks ago and couldn't find a cure till now. Tried to do what you did and (of course, I didn't have Indrix) I just sleep and wake-up the phone, seeing that in safe mode all was OK. After restarting also, restart normally and all was ok also. So just going to Safe mode once fix the problem, no need to uninstall nothing.
Can somebody explain that?

Launcher Issue

Has anybody else had the problem where the launcher stalls/restarts upon pressing the home button from within an app, resulting in the spinning loading wheel? I noticed it on stock 4.0.4 and venom 2.0, but when I went to venom 1.0 (based of of 4.0.3 firmware) the problem completely stopped.

i had this happen a few times. noticed it but didnt really think too much of it.
Just picked one up for my son. *Every* time he hits the home button, he gets the spinning circle "loading" for quite some time (3-7 seconds) before the home screen displays. I installed Launcher Pro on it, and that seems much more responsive. Is this an issue that I should be concerned about? We've only had the phone for a couple of days, and I can still send it back for a replacement and/or exchange for another model.
He's having another issue with apps starting, though. Several apps (mostly games) will "launch loop" it'll start to launch, show its 1st & 2nd splash screens, then go back to the 1st. Lather, rinse, repeat. (Angry Birds, in particular). Forgive me if this is a thread-jack, I'll post it as a new issue if preferred.
Thanks,

Sounds like an excessive amount of undesirable behavior. You could try a factory reset or take take it back, if you can reproduce the weird stuff predictably and show the Verizon people. Mine was doing the home button = loading thing quite a bit, and the factory reset may have helped a little but it didn't go away entirely.
OP- Have you tried flashing the newest Viper ROM? It looks like you'll need to flash the kernel also since you are coming from 1.0. I am on 2.1.1 and I had to flash the kernel also, haven't had the loading issue yet.
Thanks, Spyder..
My search skills have been failing me lately. How do I do a factory reset? I know that on my Dinc OG, volume up while power on got me in, but that doesn't seem to be working here. The phone is completely stock - no root, no bootloader unlock, no nuttin'.
Thanks again!

It's under the storage setting options at the bottom you can do it in the stock recovery also but no need for all that

Thanks, guys. I remembered seeing it as I was running through the menus, but couldn't for the life of me remember where. Maybe with my brain this fuzzy, I shouldn't be messing with it right now...
UPDATE: Thanks guys, the factory reset seems to have worked, at least for now. I'm busy reinstalling all his apps, but there's NO loading pop-up, and Angry Birds has launched just fine. He's had the phone since Friday, and the loading was an issue on occasion at first, and seemed to have gotten worse, but the load-looping seems to have been there from the start, and now seems to be resolved.
Again, much appreciated!!

[Q] Issues with LBE Privacy Guard

Is anyone using this on their VZW Note 2 and having any issues?
I installed it and my phone immediately went into a boot loop. Luckily it was taking long enough that on a reboot, I could hold the icon on the home screen and get it uninstalled before it looped too many times (thank you Nova Launcher).
Curious to see if it might be a quirk with my phone or if anyone else has seen this.

The App is still not compatible with JellyBean. There is a Mandarin version but no translated English version yet. Here is a thread about it. the second thread is to find an alternate. It looks like it is becoming a security suite

Cool. Guess I'll try that or just wait till they make it compatible. Really like this app though.

[Q] Samsung TouchWiz home keeps getting killed (not crashing)

I have an international Samsung Galaxy S3 from Telcel in Mexico. As of lately, I've been seeing the TouchWiz home's process stopping a lot: when I press the Home button, it takes about 5 seconds for the currently running app to close, then the home screen shows up and TouchWiz begins its startup for about 10 seconds.
Up until a few months ago I noticed this usually happened when I had a large, heavy app open, like Google Chrome or Waze -- meaning that the TouchWiz home was automatically killed by Android. However, as of lately it's been happening about half the times I press the Home button. Since I purchased this phone to run my 190 installed apps without any trouble, I would like to know if it could be possible to somehow prevent this from happening, as in something that prevents Android from killing TouchWiz or that forces it to always remain running.
Update: I just tried setting my memory minimums with Autokiller to a ridiculously low value (12 MB for hidden, 15 MB for content providers, 18 MB for empty apps). It didn't work, Android keeps killing my TouchWiz home.
is s-voice stopped in it's settings? i.e., open via home key should be unchecked.
About an hour ago I disabled S Voice on home button double press. So far it seems good, though I'd like to wait one more day to declare it solved.
Consider using greenify, keeps ram clean of unused apps. This way android is less likely to kill touchwiz.

it doesn't get solved totally. it happens randomly though not frequently due to heavy ram usages and many reasons. closing background processes through built in task manager or any 3rd party apps might help you. :good:
Indeed it happened today when I loaded like 30 tabs on Opera Mobile Classic. That's fine though, it's reasonable that Android's autokill would rather kill TouchWiz instead of Opera, and at least it happens sporadically and due to a good reason instead of randomly and all the goddamn time. I'll still wait a bit before declaring this solved.
hit thanks if i help you.

[ANNOYING] Galaxy S3 - Screen takes a long time to turn on!

Hi,
My Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 32GB Unlocked, is having a rather annoying problem.
When I press the home or power button to turn the screen on, it takes about 2-3 seconds for the screen to actually light-up so I can see my lockscreen.
I have modified the device (software side), but it did the same when it was 100% stock before I hacked it up.
MODIFICATIONS:
TWRP Recovery
CyanogenMod 11 - M12 (did the same on M11 AND on stock)
Rooted
I can upload a video if you guys want me to.
Any ideas?
It's normal, get used to it.

Apart from that, the problem is hardware side, it's the method how Exynos CPU's work, so yes, you'd get used to it.

Or maybe too many background apps. Mine jumps right up and start running. There is another one, the same.
Quit any RAM managers or "game boosters" if you are using any.

The only apps I have installed are a few games, Super SU, Root Browser and WhatsApp.
I am running CyanogenMod 11, but it did the same when it was 100% stock. I also completely wiped and reflashed my phone to no avail.
My RAM usage is just about half of the total amount. I will never install any RAM managers or task killers. They seem to cause a lot of problems.

Crashed

While searching the web today on my SM-T860 it suddenly crashed and when it tried to reboot it only got as far as the Samsung logo. The power button alone did not do anything. The tablet restarted by pressing all three buttons together. This has never happened with any other Android device for 'no reason'. Has anyone else experienced this?
Same happened to my last night. I was trying to download a jpeg file that wouldn't open and it crashed after setting it using another way to download it. It was stuck in reboot loop without response from the buttons.
I've not experienced any issues. I'm still running Pie OneUi (v1.5) and the SK1 build.
Might be a good idea to post what firmware you're both running to see if one of the newer versions has introduced a bug - Right now, you're not going to gather any useful information except that it's not just your device that has crashed.
My new one did that right out of the box and had to be returned. It would never get past the Samsung logo, could not be turned off with the power button, and would not go into recovery mode. The exchanged unit worked just fine.
Maybe it's the latest update or some kind of bug though and it only works when using the chrome then downloading at this site a wallpaper. You'll be getting a broken jpeg file and after opening it that's where the problem started.

This happened to me 3 times now, almost sent the tablet back to Samsung. It usually happens with I set up a new Wallpaper using a 3rd party launcher (home replacement). Stayed away from messing with 3rd party launchers and it's been working great for me. Scary.
me too still running Android 9 with OneUI 1.5. No crash ever happened yet.
I'm rooted with Android 9, UI 1.5. I had an almost plain red background on my tab (attached?). I had two crashes in abouut 1 week and have had maybe a total of 6.
I have now gone back to the stock launcher and Samsung default wallpaper just today. I wonder if that will make a difference like someone suggested here?

Bloody hell, it crashed again using stock launcher, not sure if hardware or software issue...
Well, it crashed again and now I have updated to Android 10 with Odin. I did not flash TWRP or root the Tab, bootloader still unlocked and using Nova, lets see what happens......
