For the past week or so I have noticed my S2 getting slower, lower signal, freezing more and other things. I am running stock rooted.
Earlier this week I had no signal and 3 people next to me all three on AT&T had full bars. I used to have the same amount of bars as others on AT&T. When I do have full bars my data is a lot slower than it was when I first got the phone.
My phone has also been crashing and freezing a lot. A few days ago I would have to reset my phone about every 30 minutes when listing to music on both Amazon MP3 and the stock music app. Both would freeze, my screen would go black and I could not do anything.
Over the past two weeks or so I have had to reset my phone several times because the touch buttons stopped working.
I also have had a new voice mail notification for over 2 weeks but I do not have a new one.
Right now if I plug my S2 into my computer nothing happens, no charge, no nothing. When it used to work I never had an option for mass storage/kies, is this normal?
I'm sure I have had other glitches but that's all I can think of right now.
That my friend, is why you shouldn't drop your phone. It's hard on em...
Lol JK..
Have tried a fresh flash of return to stock?

I had some (but not all) of those issues on my captivate when my sim card was bad. If a flash to stock doesn't help go to an att store and swap Sims, next stop warranty replacent.

Yep warranty is the route i would go
Do I need to unroot for a warranty replacement or will they not care?
I think the consensus is, they won't notice anything other than the water indicators, or physical damage. But, with it only taking a moment to do its worth the effort in the off chance they check and charge you full retail for the phone.

Well, I guess I will try a reflash of stock first.
Just an hour ago my phone keeps thinking it is charging in a dock. The plug in noise plays, the battery meter changes to charging and my clock app opens. After like 5 seconds it realizes it is not in a dock.

Any debris stuck in the charge port? Sounds like warranty replacement is going to be your route. When you combine all those issues, its hard to see it any other solution.

Yep, starting to sound similar to myself and several others here who had USB port hardware failures. Warranty replacement.

I'm just going to get a warranty replacement. Now the touch screen is barley working. Why is everything going wrong all of the sudden? Perfect phone for like 3 months then boom everything goes bad.
Yep
This definitely sounds like the USB port gone funky.
Mine would randomly wake itself up. Trigger driving mode and v-lingo by itself. Think the the PC cable was plugging itself in an out.
Hard crash while sleeping which required the very long power button press to wake back up.
Initially they wanted me to try a new battery. That didn't work so now I have a 2nd battery and a new GS2.
Check my thread in the Q&A section.
I returned to stock. Decremented the flash count. And did a complete wipe. That was enough to stop the crashes but not the random USB wakes.

What are the chances I will have 2.3.6 on my replacement?
EDIT: Ok there has to be something more than just a USB jack problem. I just unlocked my phone and the screen was upside down and full brightness then froze. Had to pull the battery and reboot.
Just woke up late to find that my phone can not charge and was using its last bit of battery power to put it self in a endless boot loop. Turns on, battery low notification, turns off, turns on, battery low notification, turns off, and so on. Im assuming there is no way to back up my apps and run root at this point? haha
My automatic Titanium backup apparently saved to the phone and not SD card. How can I get it off the phone if the phone can't boot?
Buy an external battery charger or get the phone into usb download mode and leave it there for an hour or 2 to charge. (with it connected to your pc)

The phone I received at the Support Center had 2.3.4.
On the drive home from the store, 2.3.6 put itself onto the brand new phone.
Personally, I'd AVOID 2.3.4 until the BlueTooth Keyboard issue is resolved.
That is unless you'll never need BlueTooth HID.
I can also say for sure that 2.3.6 (edit was 2.3.4) makes ROM swaps and rooting trickier in general.
My 2 cents.

Do you mean to say to avoid 2.3.6?
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk
Sorry yes. I would avoid 2.3.6.
I'd go so far as to say, freeze / disable the OTA and stay on 2.3.4 until the consensus determines that the waters are safe again. With the inclusion of killing my bluetooth keyboard, I did not notice an gains in my normal usage.
I have felt more issues on 2.3.6, than I had on 2.3.4.
2.3.4 seemed easier to root. ROM's seemed easier to flash, etc.
Now, I did pony up for the physical jig, the flash counter was never a concern of mine.
Mobile Odin appears to be a very mice addition to our tool list.
I wish I understood the program more intimately. Perhaps I've missed a usage guide along the way. Ulitimately I used it to load CWM. After that, its wasj ust ClockWorkMod to load another ROM.
Replacement just arrived. Time to root and titanium backup. Hopefully AT&T doesn't catch the root on my old phone.
Also, my Dad's S2 is ready for the 2.3.6 update and keeps telling him to update. He does not want me too root his phone and freeze the update, is there another way to stop it?
Related
This started earlier in the week. I think I loaded the Free Monopoly, Contract killer and Text Plus in the morning when it started. I'm thinking this was Tuesday or Wednesday morning after Christmas.
At the Time I immediately killed and uninstalled all three of the recent app additions. This did not appear to resolve the issue.
Symptoms
Screen would not remain off for more than a few minutes without turning itself back on again. Full screen wakes.
Occasionally and without warning the phone would completely turn itself off, requiring the very long power button press to turn on again (was a full power-down).
Since this has started I decided to upgrade to the latest unamed rom.
This does not appear to have helped anything, although the frequency may have been reduced. I don't think this is related to the ROM since the issue survived the factory reset / wipe / rom change.
Questions
Are there any internal logs that may help to point me in the right direction?
If so, where / how can I view them?
I'm seeing a RILJ dialer something under Partial wakelocks in BBS.
I see this as [p]_RILJ under Kernal wakelocks as well. Any Idea what this is?
I admit, I was getting a bit silly with the quantity of Apps I had loaded and still running well at the time. Amazed the phone was still going very strong with no issues at all. I'm trimming this back on the new rom.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Random Illumination Wakes and sleep crashes.
Still trying to nail this down.
Additional observations.
Timing appears to be random.
When I say the screen wakes up, I'm mean illuminating.
The wakes appear almost as often as the power off freeze. What I mean is the quantity of complete power off's is similar to the screen wakes.
It's very possible that the same event may be causing both the screen wake and the hard starts. Neither issue occured prior to this the starting of both events.
I have occasionally seen the "Driving Mode" steering wheel icon pop-up, while unplugged. I've not connected this phone to any kind driving interface as of yet, so this is a surpriseds.
Today I had additional issues with extremely heavy battery drain in a short period of time. I had incorrectly added 2650mA under battery capacity beneath Calibration tab of "Battery Monitor Widget Pro".
Still looking for help finding and viewing any error logs on the device.
Does anyone know of some basic error log files on the device?
Again, all help is greatly appreciated.
Under Recent unamed ROM but I do not believe the ROM is the issue.

These random screen wakes, particularly with the car mode activations, are what I was seeing when my usb port on the device failed. there are several threads in the general and QA forums regarding usb failures, you might want to dig around in there to see if other behavior is similar. I think one poster mentioned cleaning out the USB port with alcohol and a small paint brush. I had tried doing the same with canned air, but that did not help me. I ended up with a warranty replacement device.

I think you may be onto something.
Since the event I am also having issues connecting up to my Win7 Pc.
On the morning of the event, I remember a brief weirdness to the charging indication. I think it said it was charging when it wasn't or vice versa.
So now the question becomes.
What do I need to do before an exchange?
Purchased from Best Buy on US Launch day without extended warranty.
Do I still have a warranty?
Can I go to the AT&T store in Sacramento?
I think you may be onto something.

Your phone has a 1 year hardware warranty. Talk to Best Buy, and force them to give you a replacement. I did that with AT&T, not putting it on the phone insurance, but the phone's warranty that came with it, for free.
Backup your apps using a tool like ROM Toolbox from the market (it's my favorite). When you restore your phone, all apps that AREN'T sideloaded will come back with the last Google Sync you made, so sync now. If you're sure, 100% that it's hardware and not software, make a backup via CWM and ignore all previous instructions, but if you're like me, you'll want a fresh restart with the ability to axe all the apps you don't use on a clean ROM.
When backing up all non-sideloaded apps, Google does it for you, use a backup program from the market to ONLY backup your sideloaded apps.
HUGE ADDENDUM:
READ THIS. Alright, before taking it back to Best Buy, flash Entropy's "Back To Stock" ROM and kernel. If you don't, you're done. Warranty voided. If they are intelligent and check the flashcounter, and see you tripped it, but you're on a stock ROM, you can talk your way outta it. Try thinking of something before you go in. The excuse I will use if ever needed is I was clueless about why my phone was ****ing up, so my friend who said he could fix it took my phone for a day and temporarily fixed it, and it worked alright for a couple days before the issue came back. So you can claim ignorance IF NEEDED, but most of the time they don't check. Just be sure to have an answer for if they do.

I do have a jig and I do not have the Exclamation Icon.
However my boot animation is no longer stock and I have not been able to read the flash counter. The Power-off, Hold volumes and plug USB thing is not working for me.
To date, I have not caught anything in software to cause this.
Getting myself ready, Thanks a million.

Shot back to this ROM
Kernel + cache + rooted UCKK6 system package: http://www.multiupload.com/NYL3XT51Y0
Feels like olden times.....Naked in front of the Gym class.
Beyond Best Buys 30 Days so had to go to the AT&T Service center.
They grilled me, checked, wiped, reflashed, yada-yada-yada.
Gave me the could be an app shpeel, did you use a car charger questions etc.
Long story short....
They want to try a new battery 1st.
So, news years eve overnight, maybe by Monday.
I admit this could be a possibility because I have had the battery lose a large amount of capacity in a short amount of time one the order of Full to Dead in 2-3 hours. This has occurred to me on maybe three or four occasions since launch day. Phone got warm to hot at the same time. This usually included a hard kill power off. Nice big gap / drop in battery stats.
Is there any way the phone would get a charging indication yet not charge?
Like if the USB port got wonked or crossed with something?
Additional Weirdness:
I have had the phone freeze up on me, picture turn weird as it gradually whitened to full white screen only.
No response from the keys or screen with the exception of a long power button press to recover. This occurred a few times since the original event (maybe 3) with the last one happening while plugging it back in for some juice for the return today.
Keeping this up to date in case others run across the same funkyness.

It ain't the battery man. The symptoms you described fit perfectly with a fried micro usb port.
If you haven't set the flashcounter off, and your phone has the AT&T boot logo, then you're good to go as far as exchanging it goes. DO IT UNDER WARRANTY AND NOT INSURANCE. This is the **** quality of the usb connecter, not user caused.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
I doubt it too, since the original event involved the AM unplugging from the charger. I always check the Next Amazon app, 1st thing.
I can honestly say that:
The phone has absolutely never been dropped.
The USB cable nor port has never been stressed, tweaked nor twisted.
Never used the phone with the cable attached.
Neither the phone nor the Taurus gunmetal case have a single scratch.
The phone has never been close to water, save for the obligatory post shower, AM, moist towel screen wipe (ok.... too much info).
I think I had 137 apps on this thing until the 1st event last week. In those original two months I've had maybe 5 force closes or other events. The force is definitely strong in this one!
I hope they forget the "new" battery when the time comes for the full swap?
As always, thanks for everyones help. I'll post this through beyond conclusion for the rest of us.
Definitely the USB port is screwed. I'm on my third phone cuz of this issue. First guy at best buy said it was probably because I wasn't using stock launcher. Whatever. Second replacement was easier, just a young girl who never even looked at my phone, and just gave me a new one. I did go to a different best buy second time to avoid possibly getting another phone from a bad batch. I've posted on other threads on this issue about the fact that this problem might be caused by the lack of a cover over the USB port. Maybe i'm wrong, but it seems to easy for junk to get in there. If you can't flash back to stock via computer, you can try mobile Odin, however I ended up soft bricking my phone trying to run the stock Odin one click via drop box through mobile Odin. Don't know if file didn't completely DL through drop box, but I couldn't fix soft brick since I couldn't connect phone to comp using the USB port. Long story short, my advice, flash stock while you still can, and keep it that way cuz the problem most likely won't go away.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
Additional info:
I performed a factory data reset (from the settings screen) prior to re-loading the unbrick/return to stock ROM. Also wiped all three memory areas prior to the rom.
Last night the Driving mode Icon and V-Lingo kept popping back up as if I were connected to a car adapter. I have no use for either as I have no car adapter yet (was at home). No cable was attached at the time and the phone was sleeping. This occurred a half dozen times or so.
I also randomly receive the USB connected icon despite having nothing connected to the phone. Says MTP-Initialization.
Odin 3 worked yesterday without any issue. Droid explorer also appears to work but Kies has refused to connect since the event, even with the New years update. The Win7 pc randomly recognizes the phone. Sometimes it's ok, but mostly it does not show up at all with the pc saying "USB device not recognized...".
With USB Debugging turned on, Kies says:
"Reconnect the device in Samsung Kies (PC Studio) mode.Current mode not supported by Kies."
I switched USB debugging off 1st thing this morning and it looks like Kies USB is working ok now.
Kies Air works like a champ.
Still think the USB Port is dorked. Probably the USB controller chip as I don't think I have any physical looseness. I really wish USB connectors were longer and deeper with screwed attachments to the motherboard in addition to the soldering.
Correct me if I am wrong here, but I thought that the "Driving / V-Lingo Mode" is Hardware triggered and it is not possible to trigger this mode with any software. At least that is the impression I got by reading the car cable connection cable discussions.
More fuel for the bad USB port fire?
Since the multiple wipes and return to stock, I do not think I've had an event from sleeping to hard crash / reboot required.
Still having wake-ups and spurious driving mode activation's both plugged in and unplugged. This may or may not be accompanied by the V-Lingo, terms prompt.
Prior to going back when the replacement battery fails to improve things....
Can I kill / Delete everything on the phones internal SD memory?
Not thinking,.. I still had the Titanium Backup directory along with Clockwork Mod etc. still on the phone when I brought the phone to the service center. Had they checked the phone directory, I could have lost warranty, etc.
Any other directories I should look for?
Just Realized I had not stated my Hardware Level.
Model: SAMSUNG-SGH-I777
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband Version: I777UCKK6
Kernel: 2.6.35.7
Build No. GINGERBREAD.UCKK6
Still getting spurious wakes with the USB port thinking:
It's connected to a PC.
It's connected to the car
or V-Lingo launches thinking I'm about to take a trip.
All of these occur with nothing connected at all, and typically the phone is sleeping. Still have not had a repeat Hard crash since the wipes and return to stock.
Do we have enough of a known hardware history here to know / avoid certain builds?
No. Not much effort has been put into figuring the faulty USB port out. Entropy and I even hashed it out in Q&A, both of us thinking it might have been the software. Truth is, you'll probably find more info in the international SGS II community than here, as more were sold, and our SGH I777 was discontinued only a month or two after being brought to the market.
Because it hasn't been reported on much, no one has thought to start observing the hardware for faults. You should consider doing so - I can tell you some information on my phone model later, after I remove the battery and such. Maybe shoot GTX or Entropy a PM to ask them for tips on identifying different hardware models and state why you're interested. As I said, I'll post my info on my new replacement, and observe it to see if the same problem occurs as it did in the last one.

Here's a link to the thread I started when mine went tango uniform:

I mentioned at one point about looking at device serial numbers to attempt to track bad hardware, but I'm not sure if that info is safe to post online when not coupled with device imei. I would think it is safe, but not sure.
Unfortunately I don't know if I can track down the info on my defective phone now, since it has been gone for several weeks.
Also: I was under the impression that the i777 had in fact NOT been discontinued, only not stocked in COR stores in LTE markets. I'd be interested in documentation on the discontinuation if you can provide it...

Wow, your thread has quite a few similarities.
With the exception of the ROM selections, the device responses appear to mimic my own dead on. I was on "update-unnamed-v1.0.4-full" when the issue reared its head. Jumped to v2.0.1 to see if it helped, but again, I seriously doubt this issue is ROM related.
I'm still waiting for the "overnight-ed" battery.
I expect it will arrive tomorrow. With any luck I can grab it from home at lunch and charge it at the office. Put an effort into trying it at least.
That pushes my eventual return out till Wednesday evening / Thursday morning. I'll be sure to get the serial number data from it before it goes back.
Would it be insecure of me to post the old serial number data after the exchange?
I'm wondering if charging device, cable or PC could have had something to do with the failure. Pretty sure the cable was stock, but the plug may have been a logitech. This arrangement had been used nightly since launch date, so I doubt it.
Electronic chips can do some funny things. I'm fairly certain the port itself is still firmly attached.
As always, thanks for everybody's help.

Same issue from a lend out phone at JB Hifi
Having the same issue only the phone is a spare lend out phone from JB Hifi while my SGS2 i9100T, which I purchased about a week ago brand new, is in for a screen assessment (bad blue tint) just so I can get a refund. I powered up the lend out phone no problems, worked for a while then stopped working, won't power up or anything. Download, recovery, usb jig, battery out 5 mins, battery charged seperately in charger, phone is dead.
Shame on you JB Hifi Canberra!

Wish I had a fix for you Unfortunately, given it's a loan phone, you're a bit limited so far as flashing something else goes (I wouldn't risk it, put it that way).

It could be a problem with a faulty SD card - Remove it and try and switch on.
It could be a problem with the screen - If any of the key-lights come on, then that is likely the problem.
It could be a problem with a very flat battery - I had this problem with an old HTC. The solution was to remove the battery, plug in the phone to the charger (not USB to computer), leave it for a couple of minutes, plug in the battery and leave for a couple of hours. Finally try and power it on.

Turned out that the "loan phone" they gave me was a returned faulty phone from a previous customer. They gave it to me simply to shut me up!!! I came back the next morning and confronted them and they gave me a motorola defy loan phone????!!!!! I swear they will bend over backwards to avoid having to refund a phone. He asked another sales person why it was returned and was told that the phone was randomly powering down!!!!!! I asked them what happened regarding the previous customer and the store person said JB lost that claim and had to give in to the customers request(whatever that was). That gives me evidence that a refund at JB may exist?
Yeah ? That's disgraceful And Australian retailers honestly wonder why Australian consumers avoid buying from them at every possible opportunity. There's one more reason right there.
**** em. If a phone starts playing up badly within a week like that, the retailer should replace it no questions asked. At the end of the day they're going to be reimbursed by Samsung, them doing the right thing like that just saves you the grief of having to go thru hoops with Samsung.
And given they couldn't/wouldn't do that with you in the first instance, I'd demand a "decent" lend phone i.e a brand new SGS2 (which they should have given you in the first place). If they refuse to play ball, make a scene in front of other customers. Get management involved. Threaten them with consumer affairs, etc.

i got the screen to work for a second when i booted into download mode and it prompted to confirm this is what i wanted to do, but otherwsie the screen seems dead. when i power it on, nothing happenson the screen.
did i somehow like turn my brightness to 0? or like turn off the display?

I plugged my phone in the car charger earlier and noted I had 49% battery left. I drove an hour and when I took the phone off the charger it was turned off. I'm not rooted or anything. This is my first Android phone. Would Android be considered less stable than ios?(which is what I've used for years)

Mine did the same! But it only happened once for me

That same problems happens to me when i unplug it or even just wake it up from sleep. It doesnt do it too often like it did when i first got it but im sure it will be fixed with a software update. All you gotta do is restart the phone hold down the power and down button ( on the volume rocker)
Just happened again. Plugged in car charger and it powered down. WTF is this?

I used to have a samsung captivate that did the same thing, generally it is a thing you just have to deal with! It sucks, I know but sorry!
Galaxy S3
kindle fire running cw9
iPod touch 4 6.0.1 jailbroke
I turned it back on, kept driving, and then it turned off again. This is ridiculous. It never did this before.

I've had mine for three weeks and done all kinds of hackerization to it and have never seen this issue. Defective device, swap it out.

I think the problem may be with the app HD Widgets. I installed it last night and the problem started today. According to one review I read, it was causing some guy to have random reboots. The developer responded that it is a bug in Android OS, BUT they released a fix in today's update anyway. Hopefully it is fixed now.

I've had it happen twice to me. I got the feeling it was a software conflict type issue.

I think it is hd widget too. I had that on my nexus 7 and it randomly shut off. I deleted it and it hasn't happened again.

I won't pretend to know what the actual problem is but I'm assuming it's software related, but this thing does strange things when connected to a car charger.
Same thing happened to me twice while it was sitting in my pocket.
Pulled it out and it was off. It would not turn back on unless I held the down volume button and power button. My phone is completely stock and I do not have HD widgets.
Twice for me. I'm rooted and unlocked.

I'm on The Base .7.1 and i've had my phone reboot on it's own a few times (on .5 and .7 it did this as well). it doesn't seem to matter what I'm doing...i can be taking a phone call or answering a text, it can be sitting in my pocket or playing chess.
the only thing that is constant is that AFTER the reboot, some application or other has updated itself via Google Play. perhaps there is some conflict occurring when application updates are presented to the Google Play app? could just be coincidence, but it has self-rebooted many times now and every time it comes back up there is a newly applied update to some installed application.
Had a Samsung Captivate that did that, called "sleep death" and was frequent. ATT swapped it out saying there was a bad batch and it never happened again.
My LGOG did it once the other night; well it did a full reboot by itself. If it becomes an issue I'll take it up w/ ATT again.
Had it happen twice in the past 2 days just in my pocket. Starting to get a bit frustrated with this phone.
Had this happen to me at least twice. Funny thing is the phone died in the same general geographic area each time.
Both times I had over 65 or 75% battery left and I was driving a few hundred miles across areas with bad cell reception. on the way back from my trip I actually chanced to look at the phone because I half expected it to be off due to having experienced the unintended power down before. Phone was NOT plugged into a charger. In the past, driving through these areas would put certain phones into power saving mode where cell function shuts down or phone. I think it's related to driving without reception or just no reception.
Normally I can leave this phone sitting and it stays on and wakes up without a fight.
Called AT&T, they are trying to run me through the whole hard reset/phone swap process.
Wanting something a bit stronger, I got LG's number. They said I was the first person to report the issue.
Both companies suggested turning the device off and charging to 100%, although they were both general suggestions (still, I hadn't tried that). The LG tech actually suggested that I take the battery out and... Well I didn't let that go any further.
LG said I could send my device to them instead of AT&T, if I wanted. They don't presend phones so you'll be SOL for "5-7 days" but I feel better that they would actually look at it instead of just throwing it in a "refurb" pile when the screen turns on.
Anyway, call them! Press 1 for English, 1 for Mobiles, I got an answer in 3 seconds. At least help put this on their radar. 800-793-8896.
of those of us who are experiencing random reboots...

Hey XDA!
I'm having an issue with my Galaxy S2 I9100. Basically the problem started a while ago when I dropped it and the screen shattered. I wasn't willing to get the screen replaced so I bought a replacement screen off of eBay and replaced it myself. At first it seemed to be in complete working order and everything was going great. However, over time I got an issue of the phone turning off and me having to restart it. It would come at the most random times too, I would be going about my business and the phone just randomly turned off. The problem progressed and got worse and worse and the shut downs would be more frequent. I remedied the problem by keeping the phone plugged into the A/C adapter and it wouldn't shut down while it was charging. It got worse however, and I could barely turn on the phone without it completely shutting down after a few seconds, and even when it was charging it would still turn off. So basically my question is how can I fix this? Is it a hardware problem and something that I shouldn't try to fix because its not worth it? I tried even resetting the phone to factory settings and everything I had in my knowledge to fix it but nothing would work. Would it be just worth it to sell it as spares? Thanks for helping me out!
That sound like the battery is dying, not the device.
Get a genuine samsubg battery and try it out.

Allright, the battery seems to have expanded a bit as well I should note, so that may be causing the problem. I have a friend with the same phone so I'll try his battery to see if it makes a difference.
Swap it & share the outcome with us.

Battery expansion is a sure sign that the battery needs replacing, and the other symptoms you describe are common to a failed battery too........
If the battery has expanded, that is an indication of a build up of gasses within the cell.....the battery is now pressurised....it could physically fail at any time....best to take it out and throw it away before it leaks fluid all over the inside of your phone. Further charging will only serve to increase the risk of failure.

Oh god I feel so stupid now lol. Yeah I tried it with another battery and the phone works completely fine nothing wrong with it. I guess I'm gonna order a replacement battery off of eBay tonight and sell my phone once it arrives. Thanks so much guys! :good:
Just for future reference however, how is the battery expansion caused and what are some ways to prevent it? Thanks again.
'Old age'. You can't. When the battery begins to expand & feel 'squishy', it's time for a new one.
Anyone have anything to report yet?
Not a major issue yet!
I got a bad pixel, the I am waiting on to return for. No root, rom, or lollipop..... other than all that, so far so good.

Seems a little slow with cellular data at times.
Just random force reboots. I'm sure it's all because of the bloatware and hopefully Lollipop will fix it.
Some times mms message get stuck at unable to download, have to reboot to resolve
Not a single issue, forced reboot, glitch, or lag since day one for me.
Few problems
Stamina mode causing texts to send late or freeze, SMS and MMS.
On stock messaging notification mark as read button doesn't respond, must be tapped twice.
With Hangouts dialer installed and u choose to call from Maps or other apps the default choice doesn't stick, it asks which dialer every time over and over, had to uninstall hangouts dialer very annoying that your choice isn't saved.
Battery takes forever to charge, from 0-100 it took 3 1/2 to 4 hours. That's horrible.
1 freeze where the screen stayed black and could not reboot, had to remove Sim card to fix.
Slow on data at times, not as good signal as Samsung or Motorola.
On YouTube no option for 1080p, 720p is highest, Z2 had 1080 option. If you disagree and before you comment try these out yourself and tell me if you're having the same problems.
I'm a little disappointed in the charging rate as well. I had read a handful of spec sheets that listed this as having something similar to quick charge. Having had the droid turbo and Note 4 I loved this setup. I know I didn't have the same feature verbatim but it did have some kind of fast charge feature mentioned. I thought it might be due to not having the correct cord similar issue with the one M8 but, a msg pops up at 90% on my wifes note 4 charger telling me its incompatible with that charger.

If it freezes again just push the small button in the SIM card area, just bellow the SIM card, will reboot.
When in navigation GPS Icon clogs notification area...Why Verizon why? All other variants put it next to 4g signal and not as a notification. Verizon sure knows how to mess up a good phone, there's no compatibility to Sony PC companion either...Verizon's doing...
Having an issue with a boot loop since Verizon update
I got the update from Verizon, it threw my phone into a boot loop. I let it run for like a half hour with no luck. During my entire ordeal, it would usually only make it to the Sony wave screen. It would make it to the Verizon screen on occasion, but would always loop back to the beginning. I would get two vibrations followed by a red notification light. I figured out the button combination for recovery mode. I tried to boot into Safe Mode. It once again went into a boot loop. I put it back into recovery mode and did a factory reset. It did the reset and went directly into a boot loop again. I ended up doing three factory resets in a row to see if it was an issue with the factory reset process. After three resets and a half hour boot loop, it did fully boot up. I went through the entire setup process, emails, wifi, bt, widgets, apps. During that process, it did a force reboot and went back into a boot loop. I went through the entire process listed above again. Safe Mode and three Factory Resets. I have once again gone through the setup process once again with no force reboot...yet. This could happen at any point any this is getting pretty aggravating. Any suggestions?
Bad unit
I think I had bad hardware on mine. I was experienceing randon screen freezes, that forced reboot. Got it replaced and new one is flawless so far.
Urgent: Stuck
Looks like I'm currently experiencing a problem. I was playing Asphalt 8, and as I was exiting the game, the phone froze. I hold the power button, and it just rings my text message ringtone. I hold the camera shutter, it plays the camera sound, but same screen. I call it, it will play my ringtone but I can't answer it.
With a day's worth of battery life, I can't just wait for it to die. What do I do??
EDIT: So what I had to do with a last resort is access my phone with Google Android Device Manager and erase my phone and factory reset. I hope to never experience this again. If only this was a Samsung, removing the battery and putting it back is the easiest hard reset to do. :\
I believe that there is a button inside the sim compartment that simulates a battery pull.

If you would have hit the reset button you probably wouldn't be complaining right now. Learn you device before comparing it to Samsung crap.

Ha, hilarious. We both know what our phones are capable of, but I've never ever knew there was such a handy device.
Ah well, you live and you learn.

Yeah that's my only gripe with this phone. I have no issues. I came from a nexus 5 on ATT. Didn't get ATT in my new house. Glad I made the jump. I charge this phone with my old nexus wireless charger and the thing takes forever to charge.
You're complaining about a limitation of qi charging, not this phone. Compare the output limits of a qi charger and the power block to your phone. If you want the phone to charge faster, it will always be faster with a wire than wireless.

Trust me I knew that already. My nexus 5 did the same thing. I just like the wireless charger in my room. Just easier to grab when you grab the phone in mid sleep. Lol
I do agree with the convenience of qi charging. I just didn't want someone to think that qi would do rapid charging of some sort.
