[Q] Is the dock supposed to be charging the Tablet? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I just connected my Tablet to the dock and it is charging the tablet from the dock. It is not connected to any power source (the charger) so is this normal?

Yes, that is the point. You empty tablet's battery, you dock it, leave it, and than you can undock half-full tablet

By design. It would be a waste to have the tablet run out of charge with charge left in the dock because this would prevent you from disconnecting them. You want the dock to empty first leaving maximum charge in the tablet in case you want to ditch the dock.

[Q] battery packpack

Is it possible to make the transformer keyboard dock into an external battery pack for my htc desire?

I think maybe he means using it as a charger for his HTC desire.
It is "possible", however you will need some way to modify the dock so that it activates power when the pad is not docked but the usb cable is connected. Because as far as I know the USB device won't be active unless they keyboard is docked. Good luck.
Make cable
That is actually one smart idea. Unfortunately it will require you to make a special cable that hooks into the dock/keyboard where the tablet is inserted, that is the connector for electricity to the battery in the tablet. Seeing that you are in Taiwan I'm sure you can convince a manufacturer to make a cable like that, I think there might actually be a market for that, albeit kind of specific and limited.
How about the Transformer USB adapter that plugs into the dock port. here:

then plug a SUB cable from your phone to the USB adapter. I don't know that It would work but just an idea.
I tried to use the dock to charge my cellphone while I was in Hong Kong. There is one major obstacle to overcome. The usb ports on the dock will only provide a charge when the tablet is docked and awake. The second the screen turns off, it stops providing a charge. What I did was set the transformer to never sleep (never turn off screen) and plugged my phone up while I slept. Drained my battery in my Transformer, but charged my cellphone, which was more important.

(Q) when does docking station start charging the tablet

as title says, does anyone know when does docking station start charging the tablet? cause ive noticed that even when my tablet is at like 75% while keyboard is at 90% its not charging the tablet
A little searching would tell you that your tablet won't begin charging until it's reached 70%.
ahhh kk, mmm guess ill have to test this then
If your cable is plugged into your dock and the tablet connect to the dock, the tablet will charge first, once the tablet is fully charged the dock then charges, ive also noticed, if my tablet is on low power and the dock is charged, the dock charges the tablet moving its charge to the tablet, COOL!!!
I wonder if dock charging tab is an OK thing in terms of not shortening batery life in future ... does anyone have any info on this?

Dock USB Power

As you may or may not know, the USB port on the dock does not put out constant power.
If the Prime is attached to the dock, and the screen shuts off, so does the power to the USB.
If the Prime is not docked, the USB gives out no power.
I wifi tether my phone to my Prime 60-90 minutes every day, and I need to charge my phone while tethered because of the crazy battery drain. I'd like to charge my phone from the docks USB while I tether to keep it all self contained. I use my tablet undocked while tethering, so I can't charge my phone. I also don't want to have to use the Prime docked and make sure the screen doesn't shut off, just to charge my phone.
I haven't heard of anyone accessing the docks firmware.
Is there any way to change this?

The dock probably doesn't have an editable firmware

Charging the dock question

I just got a dock and had a question about charging it. Do I charge it when it's connected to the Prime? My Prime is at 70% and the dock is at 10%.
I personally charge both at a time however if im playing a game on the tablet or something and my dock is getting low i'll charge the dock on its own and put my prime on it when im done what im doing.
After hearing all the problems people are having with the dock connection on the prime i think its best not to stress it out by putting the USB cable to it unless i need to.
So it's not bad charging them together if the Prime still has a decent charge left?
It's not "bad". It will just simply charge your prime to 100% then begin to charge your dock

TF201 dock doesn't charge

So I have this issue where my dock is unable to charge. When I plug in my tablet on its own, it charges just fine (though the little light to indicate as such does not seem to work). When I plug the dock in on its own, it doesn't charge, and the little indicator light does not shine, either. When the tablet is connected to the dock and I plug it in, the tablet charges, but the dock does not. I am fairly certain it is not the dock because I have bought two different docks and the problem was present both times (first dock was refurbished, second one is brand new). Seeing this problem twice is extremely frustrating and I don't know what's wrong. Any help is much appreciated!

Never heard of that one but applying some logic:
1. The dock should charge if the power cable is plugged in to it even without the tablet connected (i.e. the dock can charge by itself). Hooking it up this way eliminates the tablet as the source of the problem since it isn't hooked up. So the tablet is not the problem
2. Therefore the problem has to be either the dock, the cable, or the charger.
3. You already tried using a different dock (the second one being brand new) with the same result, probably eliminating the dock as the problem (as you already indicated).
4. That leaves the charger or the cable. Do you have another cable you can swap in?
I have Exactly the same problem.. My cable charges the tablet perfect but not the dock.
I plug the cable charging the dock overnight and nothing, cero charge. But if I leave charging the tablet it charges perfectly.
Now. I also notice that when I connect the tablet to the dock it says " change to Asus keyboard for better consistency " How do i chage this?
