[Q] Slow sd read - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

after I've installed the Spartan Rom 1.4. I've noticed a slower read then write from SD card. I've used the sd boost and set it to 2048 but no change whatsoever. any tweak I've missed?
using custom kernel and Spartan Rom 1.4. also on the v6 script on an Xperia active.

Yes i felt this too when i installed CM7 and Hybrom v6 once for testing
If you are facing this problem then you should get "Rom Tool Box Pro" go in performance tab -> SD Boost and set its value to either 1024 or 2048 kb,I used 1024 KB and my problem was solved,Tick apply on boot and click apply
Reboot after you change value
and yes do a full memory card using antivirus software like quick heal
I advice to be on stock Rom,its the best Firmware as its provided by Manufacturer and they knew it better what your device really need to be fed
Enjoy ...

[KERNEL][GSM] xDKernel - Stock with tweaks [OC][CWM][v2]

This kernel is totally stock with the overclock tweak.

[v2]Added ClockworkMod Recovery from DooMLord's sources.
[v1]Changed version string to _xD
[v1]Added 2GHz CPU Overclock
Why did I make this kernel?
Because when I was on DooMLord's kernel, battery drain was worse than usual, and I didn't really like the splash screen much either, all I wanted was stock with overclock.
Will CPU governors be added? Maybe - depending on battery drain, if I add something, and it drains the battery, I will have to remove it.
To apply, first you need to use fastboot to flash the boot.img:
To flash the kernel execute the command:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then unplug your phone, boot into recovery, to do this turn on your phone and when the blue LED on the power switch lights up keep pressing the back button.
After this, flash the WiFi module (you need to have it on SDCard first), install zip from sdcard then select modules.zip

Hi!
Aside from the bootscreen,
1. How is this any different from DooM's Kernel with regards to battery issues you were referring to?
2. Is there any other tweak that DooM does to his kernel to support your claim for battery drains?
3. What tweak did you do for you to have a separate Wifi Module to be flashed?
4. Is the CWM source you got the latest one? Does the sd-ext mounting applies too?
thanks and regards!

1. In doom's kernel he has added things such as tiny RCU, I have added none of this.
2. Sort of answered your question in 1
3. Changing kernel string name requires flashing new WiFi modules.
4. I use Doom's latest recovery.
This is based on stock .42 sources so is for 2.3.4

Try changing Min CPU speed to the lowest setting, this is what I have done and battery seems okay.
I used to get 2% gone every five minutes on my HTC Wildfire, so 2% decrease each hour is okay and seems reasonable to me.
i aint complaining im allright with this mate just saying but im curious to why my last precent was 2 hours long hmmm

are you sure? if this is stock kernel and only doomlords kernel has support for ext 2/3/4 then this will prevent ext? or this for the internal memory?
UPDATE: EXT not working on this kernel and therefore i cant use it
according to link2sd no init script could be created and therefore the apps2ext script can not be added to startup
hello!
just flashed it and everything works ok...
2GHz works as well on my rig, but I nailed it @1.9 (I guess I want my hardware to last longer... )
I will come back with my feedback
Link2sd works and all my programs are right there. @fma965 before I flashed I had an ext3 part linked on stock kernel, not on doom, and worked fine... doomskernel draines my battery for no reason (with no overclock, just installed) and that's why I stuck on stock until 2nite. I guess play's kernel natively knows how to mount ext FS
ps: lov that you kept the original boot screen
thx

SO WHY wasn't link2sd working for me? it error'd i am using ext4 though so ....
please fix - although i am now on .58 kernel (recently released in hongkong and on wotanserver) so this wont work for me now anyway
dunno mate.. I'm still on .42 - the one with lots of chineeese **** at start (but not anymore)
link2sd worked from market with no tricks... and it is free.. did my partitions with paragon.. i don't use anything else.. (app2sd hack or smth... no; just link2sd).
only once it failed to mount on a reboot... but then worked everysingle time...
I couldn't find any .58 for flashtool (to keep my data)... but that's already out of topic..
now enjoying videos that got out of sync before. thanks faisaldante !
if baterry will also be ok, I'll be so much gratefull.... will come back to tell

[Q] Noob help - Rooted desire keeps freezing.!

Morning guys - i'm a sort of noob (go easy.!) that needs help with my HTC desire. I took plunge and decided to try rooting & applying custom ROM, but now have problems with the screen freezing completely at any point, then on restart the phone boots into the home launcher but screen does not respond or will not wake.
So far:
Rooted with unrevoked
HBOOT flashed to Cm7r2
Latest version of clockworkmod recovery via app
Aurora 4.1 (all dalvik caches wiped at correct points).
V6 supercharger applied on setting 5 (balanced).
Tried with kernel built in ROM (0.7) & gingercakes 0.9cfs no2way havs.
SD card partitioned with GParted (fat32 primary, 2gb primary ext4).
I've had the ROM working fine, the only other thing i can place it to is swapping the SD card, which i've changed from 4gb class to, to a samsung 16gb class 6. Does anyone think that this error could be anyway caused by the fact the card readers i've used (tried 2 different readers) both have had trouble recognising the 16gb card?? (Gparted still recognised it however)
Is it possible to be a hardware issue? Please note recovery works perfectly - wiping caches, reinstalling zip files, backups etc.....only problem is now this freezing of home launcher and no response.
Any help be greatly appreciated, give me a nudge if i haven't given enough detail.
Regards, Nick.!
Additional:- Tried unsupercharging & rebooting - no difference.
Only other thing i can think that i've done prior to the fault is attempting to install busybox for V6 supercharger - which failed every time and affected my root access on the phone. I've found that the Aurora ROM has busybox installed already. However, is it possible me trying that install has somehow affected the rooting of the phone?
So many questions, sorry guys!
Bump.....would ADAO file manager (which isn't on google market I notice) affect anything on ext4 perhaps? That was one app that i downloaded from net.
Have you tried reverting your busybox to the default version? Also, are you overclocking and or overclocking? Going to high or to low with CPU speed can cause problems like that. It has also been said that partitioning an SD card can damage them, which may be an issue you have now. You could try formatting the SD card to its default state and run like that for a while. I ran a 16gb SD card in a Droid Eris for months and it never caused a problem like that. Of course, I didn't have a partition set up on it.
Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk
I've literally left the settings for speed in daemon controller alone, although i'm still learning and not sure if they are default overclocked or not?
Possibility with the SD card, i'll give it a try for sure, that'd mean i'd have to revert to an alternate ROM would it, as Aurora specifies an ext4 partition?
Thanks again though, it's a start at least
Do you set profiles in SET CPU?
Accidentally sent from my Google Nexus S using XDA Premium
Excuse noobie brain here, where will i find those CPU settings?
If so, fully wipe and install again. And what rom are you using currently that causes freeze?
Accidentally sent from my Google Nexus S using XDA Premium
Aurora V4.1 ROM i'm using. Don't think it's the ROM itself as i have had it stable for week or so, before swapping SD card from 4gb to 16gb.
I'm thinking this may be the root cause as i've just tried a complete fresh partition with Gparted & fresh install of literally just the ROM itself and on first boot it froze again. Rebooted and now seems to be stable with nothing reloaded back on it but we'll wait and see. If it freezes again i'll try my 4gb card. Didn't want to revert back to that as its only class 2.
[Q] Noob help - Rooted desire keeps freezing.! Update...!
UPDATED - Still getting same problems - have now tried a different SD card & alternative ROM (Cool3d v5).
Is it possible it could be heat related fault? The more i use the phone the more readily it happens - from the occasional freeze (okay after reboot) to complete freeze and no response on every reboot.
Does the CPU therefore have a cut out or could be freezing based on the settings that are initially loaded through daemon controller? What are safe settings for the min/max values?
Only other thing i've noticed is once fault starts to occur - clearing dalvik cache in recovery is quite unresponsive - menu holds before allowing me to clear.
Got to get to the bottom of this - don't want to revert back to original, or throw my phone in the river!!
Save clock is 1ghz. No over clock is the safest.
Do your phone wear case? If yes, it may be the caused of heat.
I'm sure the rom caused you the freeze. You can try to change a more stabler rom, eg aosp

Bit more progress - as my phone literally would freeze on loading home launcher, i connected it to pc and mounted via recovery - and deleted everything i could see for V6 SUPERCHARGER - and hey presto, very slowly, but phone booted up and is now working again.
I see the devs of V6 say about removing hardtokill if any lags occur - i think it's this portion of the script affecting my bravo.
SO, i'm going to run it totally without V6, and may try to just run the memory portion, but the instructions to disable hardtokill are a little unclear to me, could you guys tell me in simple terms how to acheive??
Thanks again for all your responses, a great help
V6 now off and all fresh re-installed with cpu max turned down also, and set to ondemand gov, will see how we go
[Q] Noob help - Rooted desire keeps freezing.! PT3.!
Still no joy with this issue guys - pulling my hair out now - after a few hours use (usually overnight) phone just freezes, then freezes on reboot, before getting worse and now will not pass alpharev's boot screen.
Installing fresh gets me into home launcher, but becomes unresponsive and freezes again.
I've tried different ROM's, different SD's, basic clean install, all without any luck. I'm thinking now it is more a hardware issue with the phone?

Has your device went through any physical damage (around the time the problem started)?
No physical damage apart from the battery cover being pulled off more than once(!) and a lot of obscenities being flung it's way, lol! But no, not dropped or damaged at all.
I've used the phone now all afternoon, longer than normally, with the same details on same hboot, but left some of the sense widgets off the home launcher, and it hasn't locked up once.

Phone is extremely slow

Hi all,
My phone has been performing very slow since the past 2-3 months,it behaves like ancient symbian phone from 2003.Phone is rooted and boot loader is unlocked.I have tried installing custom rom but the problem still persists.I have only 400 mb space in card and about 100mb in phone memory.Applications installed are 60-70.
Install CPUspy and look haw is processor in a pressure first. And try of course some task killer.

3. Flash another kernel.
get no frills cpu app from market and check your min/max frequency and governor which is maybe set to conservative and that could be the reason of the slowlines, if it is, change it to smartass v2 and rise the min/max frequencis a bit, and you will feel the difference

Satan Recommended ports/mods Part3: Build.prop tweaks/supercharg/less lag/ UPDATE 1

Since I keep getting msgs from people asking me how I have optimized my Xperia S for less lag and such, I thought I would make a thread teaching others all I know. First a little background info.
I have used a HTC Hero for 3 years before I got this phone, so I know a few things about optimizing and getting the most out of old hardware. This means that I am quite versed in memory management, deleting unneeded apks and proper overclocking for maximum effect and battery life. I hope to install my knowledge upon others so we can stop getting noob threads like "I have less than 1gb of ram" or "ICS lags so I am going back to gingerbread, you suck Sony!".
Before we start, if you have used any of the older kernels with old CWM versions, those versions of CWM can bork your data or system. This leads to root issues, apps still showing after clearing, unable to mount partitions in CWM and any other number of issues. To fix this i recommend flashing a stock Sony ICS firmware, then fastbooting the latest version of Advanced Stock Kernel. This will give you a nice clean slate to work with. Also you can make a backup of stock firmware to roll back to if you have problems.
Now off to the races.
Build.prop tweaks
there are plenty of build prop tweaks out there, but here are the ones i use. I will continue to update this list as I try new stuff
davlik.vm.execution-mode=int:jit
dalvik.vm.heapsize=110m
ro.max.fling_velocity=150000
ro.min.fling_velocity=80000
ro.semc.batt.capacity=1750
ro.telephony.call_ring.delay=0
view.scroll_friction=0.01

Memory Management/Free Ram - Many many people complaining about free RAM just don't understand how it works. In any efficient modern OS (Windows 7, ICS) free ram is wasted ram. I theory you should be using your free space to preload resources you might possibly be needing or using them to run a variety of apps and such. The only time where you would really need a large amount of free RAM would be when you want to play a game/ use an app which requires a larger amount of memory than is normally required. Sometimes Android will have a problem freeing up this required space which can lead to lag/freezing or even a reboot. If you don't play a ton of games, then don't worry about having a ton of free RAM. Secondly, more lag is created by the OS needing to resart an app or service (ie Home launcher) than if it needs to kill an app to free RAM. This is why you get Home redraws which lag for a split second, because the OS has killed off the home and it is restarting it. So less free RAM generally means less lag.
PS. Android takes up space for the system and this space is not shown on the ram usage screen. This means that if you have a device that says 1gb of RAM, the free RAM may show only 600mb. Don't freak out, this is normal all devices have it though it varies depending on skinned versions of android and which android version it is using (ie ICS uses more ram than previous versions).
How to fix Android Memory Management - Android memory management has made massive steps forward from how terrible it used to be, but it is still not optimal to say the least. We can help fix this by running a script by our not so friendly XDA member Zepplinrox.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276
Go to this link and read everything that you can comprehend before reading my explanation. This can be tricky and can force bootloops so make sure you back up with Nandroid.
Step Zero - Get script manager off the market. Run as root
Step One - Download the kit and the latest Supercharger Script
Step Two - Run the kit, generally on the ROMS i have tried at least, you dont need to install a new busybox or root version so skip those.
Step Three - Run the auto mode in the script or Download the automatic patcher which patches your smali files and pushes over the new services jar required for locking the home in memory. (alternatively you can do it the hard way with the smali patcher script but I dont recommend it)
Step Four - Run the script and read through things. It should make sense but ask me if you need help.
Step Five - Clean and Reboot. Sometimes it can freeze on first boot, hold vol up and power to restart. This latest script is still in testing so you may have issues but it is certainly better than the original setup.
I love the Sh1t out of supercharging and have used it for years.
Supercharging is really easy on KA17 as the services.jar is already ready to go. Just run the script which fixes oom memory settings and you are done. Dont forget to clean and reboot.
Follow-up- Run a flush engine option in the script which will then create a quick launch script in V6 supercharger directory. Put this on a schedule to run every few hours and you wont have to worry about rebooting your phone as much. Run it as superuser.
Want even less lag? - Delete any unneeded apk files either with a root explorer or Titanium Backup. This way you wont have apps you dont use fighting for memory and cpu. I delete powersaver and the exchange client as I dont use either. Other roms may have much more.
Kernel - Your kernel and kernel settings will make a huge difference in the feel of the device. I recommend XSX v6 (doesnt have crappy CWM). Set it to 1876-30 hotplug and try things out. Not every chip is the same so they all wont run great. My Hero hated the max frequencies, but my Xperia S will take all the way up to 1900 just fine. Choose a scheduler, I use deadline, but CFQ or noop are good too.
Thanks for the helpful info

Hmm, the windows patcher works good for me. Try the ICS center in the latest version of the script. I use KA rom and have no problems. If you need to I can post an edited services.jar file, but try and see if you can get it to work yourself first.
When I try to run the script it says missing essential tables, what does that mean? Running it without root works until, it asks for root
EDIT: If it is about the starter kit, I have successfully used it

Its probably the stock .45 version. Stock roms can be notoriously difficult to supercharge. I use KA12 and havent had any problems beyond a couple root problems caused by the XSX version with the bad ramdisk.

Enable swap on CM10 / PACman ROMs

Unsupported. I do not use swap anymore. Info attached for historical reasons only.
@shardul Is the low ram problem in PAC18 because of the kernel ??
will this script work only on cm10 based roms or on all roms(gingerbread stock, cm9 and ICS stock?)...bcoz if it does...this script is much better then swap to cache as it will utilize the waste empty space on system partition instead of occupying cache space.
if it works only on cm10...then can you plz create a similar script for all roms?
i flashed it on my xperia mini running cm10. but when i typed free in terminal emulator i got swap 0 0 0!! any solution??
what is the maximum value of swap ram i can set? don't know how big the systempartition is.. or is in the amount of internal memory which can be found in settings>storage?
Hi Shardul...i have cleaned up system partition and have 210mb free...but i fear if the frequent trade over on system partition may degrade the nand memory...plz clarify it as you also have implemented a 50mb system swap in your suave kernel...plz tell me if it is safe.
