Enable swap on CM10 / PACman ROMs - Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Pro

Unsupported. I do not use swap anymore. Info attached for historical reasons only.

@shardul Is the low ram problem in PAC18 because of the kernel ??

will this script work only on cm10 based roms or on all roms(gingerbread stock, cm9 and ICS stock?)...bcoz if it does...this script is much better then swap to cache as it will utilize the waste empty space on system partition instead of occupying cache space.
if it works only on cm10...then can you plz create a similar script for all roms?

i flashed it on my xperia mini running cm10. but when i typed free in terminal emulator i got swap 0 0 0!! any solution??

what is the maximum value of swap ram i can set? don't know how big the systempartition is.. or is in the amount of internal memory which can be found in settings>storage?

Hi Shardul...i have cleaned up system partition and have 210mb free...but i fear if the frequent trade over on system partition may degrade the nand memory...plz clarify it as you also have implemented a 50mb system swap in your suave kernel...plz tell me if it is safe.

Help with some issues I don't understand

Hei guys, I'm new to this, barely managed to get adb working for the 1st time.
I kinda have 2 or 3 questions that I couldn't figure out entirely by my own.
1st - What's dalvik-cahce ? what does it do? what gets erased if I wipe it and what do I have to gain if I move it to the sd card?
2nd - How exactly does A2SD work? I'm currently using Link2SD and I don't know how it works and what exactly does that "linked" mean.... Or why should I use A2SD in the first place and not just use App2SD (which actually moves everything it's able to) from the market.
3rd Why does my phone crash? I tried noejins, mik's and andy's roms and they all crashed sooner or later, I got this black screen of death with some white writing on it for 1 second and the phone turned off. Is it because I'm overclocking to 122/787? That's the only common thing I could find - and - it didn't crash before I started overclocking. I think they call it "kernel panic" or something like that.
Thanks in advance.
1. Java bytecode compiler cache
2. No data lost, it is just cache. Will get recreated as needed or on reboot.
3. Link is a symbolic link pointing to another location. Google it.

some of the phones(lg-p500) cant be overclocked above 768 OC'ed >768 = Kernel Panic and uneven shutdowns like i face after overclocking above 768.
a2sd is different from app2sd....we cannot move dalvik cache and widgets to memory card using app2sd...using a2sd you can create a partition of the memory card where these things can be stored as if it is being stored in the phone memory....it saves you some space in the phone memory....
Kernel Panic is the UNIX equivalent of what you've been seeing all your life as a Windows user, the Blue Screen of Death.
When your operating system encounters an error it cannot recover from, it dumps all the information about it in a log file and reboots. The error is usually called 'fatal'.
See it this way, it's the computer version of jumping off a cliff, realizing that you're going to die and then having your sweetest memories flash in front of your eyes Only in this case the OS comes back to life.

Click to collapse
Yes i felt this too when i installed CM7 and Hybrom v6 once for testing
If you are facing this problem then you should get "Rom Tool Box Pro" go in performance tab -> SD Boost and set its value to either 1024 or 2048 kb,I used 1024 KB and my problem was solved,Tick apply on boot and click apply
Reboot after you change value
and yes do a full memory card using antivirus software like quick heal
I advice to be on stock Rom,its the best Firmware as its provided by Manufacturer and they knew it better what your device really need to be fed
Enjoy ...

15mb of internal memory missing

Hi.
I installed some games from the Market today, and I noticed that quite a lot of internal memory dissapeared - from 35mb to 15mb. I unistalled all the games I've installed (there was about five of them), but now I have only 20mb of free internal storage. I have no idea where the missing 15 megabytes are - and it's quite a lot as Galaxy Ace has about 180mb of internal storage. Could you please help me? I tried cleaning the cache memory with 1TapCleaner and turning the phone on/off, but it didn't help. I'm running Android 2.3.3 without any mods.
Thanks in advance,
Draggy
any widgets or apps running background?
I think you should check the sd card as some games make their folders and stuff do just delete those folders

May The Force Be With You
It seems that my problem just solved itself... When I wanted to clear the cache memory today, the internal memory was about 34mb again. It's weird, I have no idea how the missing memory came back, but I'm happy it did. Thanks guys for replying.
The problem here lies when you download apps from the market. The phone caches the apk to a folder in you root "/cache/download (or downloaded)" when you are downloading an app from the market. What happened there is that the apk of the installed app wasn't cleared from "/cache/download" so if your rooted your best bet would be to go to the said folder and delete any apk there.
Get back to me if I helped.

I checked the cache folder with Yaffs Explorer and it was empty. Maybe that's because my phone is not rooted.
You need to root your phone. Or you could just factory reset, but who does that? Haha

I was actually thinking about a factory reset, but I took it as a last chance to fix my problem. So glad I didn't actually have to do it...
Let me know if you succeed

Yeah, I posted yesterday that the memory just came back by itself.
Haha didn't notice

Argh, my problem still exists. I don't know what's wrong, everything was fine a few days ago. I just downloaded a few apps and checked system data, it's 30mb more than it should be. It's obviously taken up by the cache left after installing the applications. I know the system will delete it in a few hours, but why do I need to wait that long? Is there anything I could do to make Android delete files left after installing the apps straight away, as it was before?
Sometimes even if you move apps to the sd card the Dalvk-cache of the file is still in Internal memory. So your best bet would be to root, partition sd card with CWM to a 500mb partition then download S2E then check the application data and dalvik cache options. Then reboot. That's what I did and now I have more than 100mB left in my internal.

It's weird, everything was great a few days ago... I don't know what went wrong. Is there really nothing to do to fix it? I don't really want to root my phone at this stage, but it seems this is the only way to have a fully functional smartphone.
u need to root it in order to move the caches to sd.
U use link2sd ?
Sent from my GT-S5830 using Tapatalk
I use S2E its really good. Just install the app, (make sure you have a partition made by CWM) then check all boxes except cache/download. Then reeboot. The reboot will take longer since its moving all dalvk to sd_ext. But after first reboot, the next and following boots will be normal.
Press thanks if I helped.

Yeah, it seems that the only way to solve this problem is to root my phone... Well, I'll try to live with it for now and if nothing improves, I'll root it. Thanks all for help.
No prob bro

[Q] How to increase ROM System

Hello,
I noticed after upgrading to ICS the available ROM System decreased from 180 MB to 51 MB (see attachment).
I wonder if there is any way to improve it, knowing that my device doesn't appear to suffer lot from that. But in case there is a solution, I will try.
Thanks
I think it's possible increasing system partition but not now. Because partition table can be changed but requires compatible bootloader which no exist yet. You can delete system apps, ringtones and unused fonts.
Sorry for my english
Edit:
I have VK ICS rom and installed S-Voice (~100MB). I have 54,3MB free on system.

[Request] Port kernel/some features of it

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1817548
i was jst checking and found this kernel, don't know if u guys are familiar with CosmicDan but my friend has a Play and he loves his kernels, anyhow, a couple of features i loved about this is the multiboot , ICS and JB Support, "which is almost here with MESA by anonymous but i guess he got it to work without markers?" and repartitioning unused data
"609MB data partition space
Cache is reduced to 8MB and system reduced to 280MB, giving a total size of 639MB for data. The ROM must be smaller than 280MB for this to work obviously (see "tested" section below). The cache is only 8MB so the kernel automatically links /cache/dalvik-cache to /data/dalvik-cache (simulates MIUI behavior)."
so ya, could kernel devs around here get a hold of this ?
