Just flash a custom ROM or AOSP Crespo ROM. If your ROM is the one that you got with your phone then it should have no trouble updating. I don't know when Gingerbread checks for updates but I remember when I first got my phone it updated pretty much straight away.
Regardless, flashing to a stock or custom ROM would probably be your best bet as, from what I've heard, Google will be pushing OTA updates to the Nexus S for ICS soon anyway.

Try pushing it. Set the date for a year down the line and leave the phone for an hour.

In my phone also i was not getting any update .
The phone was bought it from USA , which is a factory unlocked T Mobile Nexus S and the same is using in India, through Vodafone.
What i done was, changed my SIM to the T-Mobile which came along with the pack and immediately i got a system up-gradation message. Now enjoying ICS.

Looking to root and install CWM so I can install a different modem.
It's a factory unlocked phone and it's just had the latest 4.04 update, if I follow the instructions in the below thread, will I still get the Samsung rom updates?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
I've another thread running in q&a about very slow internet on 3g on a white S2, compared to a black S2 running a different modem - checking speed and signal on both phones show them to be very similar, but the white phone takes much longer to load web pages.
No you won't. But why would you want them, you could flash whatever rom you want when. You could update every day if you want

Thanks for your answer, maybe I'll root and unroot then.
I've spent the last 3-4 years flashing probably dozens of roms to improve all manner of phones, the S2 is the 1st phone I've had that I'm happy with the standard roms and samsung seem to be pretty swift at getting updates out.

I think you're the first person to say that. But before you unroot I would recommend you try Rootbox, be it ICS or Jelly Bean.. they are both really good

So this morning the Easter bunny left me a present... My AT&T LGOG says software update available. Does anyone know if the bunny dropped off Jellybeans or just another egg?
I was trying to get a screenshot of the useless message, but the update tried to install and the phone rebooted. Then the firmware update screen reported a failure. After reboot my phone still works on ICS. I'm going to take a backup now and be safe as long as the update doesn't update recovery/bootloader...
Turns out my screenshot worked after all.

It's just the E97011c update people got back in December ...
What are the changes?
Got the same update notification but when I tried to install it, gave me a error message because I'm rooted. Was hoping it will be jellybean.
-Sans143
It isn't I woke up and installed it hoping it would be JB, turns out it is a minor update to 11c that was handed out to a lot of people in December.

Yes, I updated mine over my home WiFi
Can confirm OTA update fails if rooted and unlocked, even from stock ROM.

Was just wondering that. My E970 is rooted on the stock ROM. Doesn't seem like the update does anything useful.

were you rooted? If so, did you lose root or anything else for that matter?
Darn
Darn, I was thinking it would have been quite funny if AT&T released a candy named update on a holiday associated with said candy...
Yep, I am still on 10o so this is just the step to 11c.

Yes. Can you re-root it?
I'm on stock & rooted. Not unlocked.
Update notification went off this morning; read some of this thread; told it to let me know again in 8hrs.
Just went off again, I said ok, whatever, told it to update. It rebooted, & now it's just sitting there at the white, "rethink possible" screen.
Key combo reboot actually got it into the "software update" screen, but that then error'd at 1% complete. Error was something like, "01X03fed." It disappeared too quickly while I was typing this. Rebooted again, fully this time, and a, "Installation interrupted" warning is showing.
Hopefully the update notification will be gone, too...
I have had the AT&T HTC One for about 4 months now and it has never found a system update. I now know that the Kit Kat update is available, but again my phone tells me there is no update available and that it is up to date when I know it is not. I live in the US and I know others have gotten the update so I am not sure if something is wrong with the device or what...I am still on Android version 4.1.2 and HTC Sense version 5.0.
I have checked for the update while on Wi-Fi and still noting it says it is up to date. Is it possible I have just yet to receive it or is there something else I should try. or a way to get the upgrade manually?
Thanks
PS: sorry if I posted in the wrong section

Try setting your clock a few months ahead. That has worked for some.
Gave that as hot and still nothing. My phone will occasionally start searching for an update but it will do it for hours and never find anything...not sure if its the phone or the update. I have read there were glitches. And I have read that some people have had it available one day and it was gone the next.could it have been removed to work out bugs? Or do I need a new SIM maybe? Seems like no update works.

OTA worked fine for me and did nothing but checked for it.
My ota won't do anything. Says it cannot find an update. I'm tempted to return the phone to AT&T and see what's up

No not really
It may be easier to get s-off with your current 4.1.2 setup but if your not interested in being unlocked and rooted you can just take the Signed RUU followed by the OTA.
The signed RUU is a windows app ..you can get it here
http://dl3.htc.com/application/RUU_...13_10.38j.1157.04_release_334235_signed_2.exe
Or you could just go to the store and get a new SIM.
My One (got it from Best Buy in the fall) wasn't updating, no matter what I tried (factory reset, changing the date, re-locking my bootloader). I read on another forum about someone getting a new SIM. When I went to the AT&T store this morning, I told them that I called Tech Support and they told me to come in and get a new SIM. They switched it out, no problem. The funny thing was, the guy remarked that my SIM (from Best Buy) looked a little different. Sure enough, I could tell it was colored a little different.
I get home and the OTA started downloading the second I connected to my WiFi (battery has to be over 50% - mine was around 90% due to just coming off car charger).
I'd go the new SIM route first, just to save yourself the hassle of reloading/reinstalling everything on your phone.

So I recently bought an unlocked AT&T HTC one M7 still running 4.3.
I know that 4.4.2 is out with sense 5.5 and I have been unable to do this update OTA.
I've research forums and read that I could possibly use something called RUU(ROM Update Utility) to flash the 4.4.2 update onto my phone and need to confirm if this is possible.
Also, my phone is NON rooted and I also need to know if I'm still able to use RUU without rooting my phone?
If you care about rooting and installing custom roms I wouldn't update to 4.4.2 yet. You can s-off yet on the 1.56 hboot and install custom roms on the HTC one international subforum. If you don't then you can install the update thru your phone. Also another thing to mention is you can flashed the stock 4.4.2 Rom if you unlocked bootloader and install custom recovery

Do not update
I have recently got an update OTA with my AT&T HTC One, which got it to 4.4.2 with HTC Sense 5 but whatever you do do not update your phone, yet. After I got this update, my phone got bricked because of this. I have issued the Repair with HTC which all they need to do is replace the mainboard, but do not get this update if it's available yet until HTC fixes there HTC Sense, as HTC Sense was also the main reason for my phone bricking its self. Just a heads up it's only as 60% chance of this happening to all users with the AT&T Model

Did AT&T pull the update then? I've been wondering why my AT&T HTC One hasn't received this update yet and have been looking in to installing it myself. Maybe I'll wait.
I had that problem too a while back. Try contacting AT&T through chat (or calling them) and tell them that you need the update pushed to your phone. They will give you a code to put into your dialer that will tell the server that you need the update pushed to you.
Hope this helps!

I already tried that and claimed that they didn't have the ability to do that. No idea why. I tried doing a check in with Google and I even tried clearing the Google services framework. Which I know I'm not supposed to do but tried it anyway. I'm new here and I am having a tough time finding a simple walkthrough on getting the OTA update installed manually.

How did you fix this??? I am having the issue now??
my phone is on I605VRUEMJ9.. Is there another update being sent? Verizon has tried twice and failed both times. I thought this was the latest update from Verizon. I'm running Jet_Rom v3.0
I'm on jett as well and seeing the same thing. Its a good thing, you don't want the update if you are on a custm rom. There are threads about how to stop the update.
