47.22meg update - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

My s-off, rooted gingerbread flyer is asking for me to install a 47.22 meg update
And dangers to my device, s-off, revolutionary root and CWM?
Way to small to be honeycomb?

If you try to install the update, it will either fail or freeze on the bootscreen. At least, that is what happened with past OTA's on the Flyer. You don't want to install OTA's if you are rooted.
If you're rooted and want HC, just use globatron's method.

though so
so how do we get the update?

Yep to small
Download it and transfer it from the sd card. Some one could make a flashable zip.

I'm looking at the LeeDroid and coolexe ROM's
I have never ever done anything like that before
the Flyer came as it is
I have zero confidence in if I decide to go ahead with one of those roms or not.
you know where some collage courses "assume you have working knowledge of" ?
I'm about 10 courses behind every one else here.

Do you mean how hard todo it or if the ROM is good?
Easiness: On a scale of 1/10, maybe 2. Follow the guide at revolutionary.io.
ROMs: I've tried both. Remember, coolexe's is a Honeycomb ROM, you must follow globatrons easy honeycomb guide. LeeDroid's Gingerbread ROM is very good.

[Q] Rooting new Gingerbread leaked ROMS

Sorry for the n00b question. I have rooted and ROM'ed quite a few times, but I haven't messed with my new Thunderbolt much. I tried a few of the roms, but I wasn't really happy with any of them, so I reverted back to stock. Anyway, I want to give the new 2.11.605.0 Gingerbread ROM leak a try, but I haven't been really following these leaks much.
I know how to root and how to load the ROM, but is there a way to root these Gingerbread leaks? Is there an easy way to revert back to stock so I can get the real release when it goes OTA? If anyone has any links they could send me, that'd be great.
Thanks, appreciate it ahead of time!

There are only a few stock nonrooted ruus out there. If u know how to flash a rom, then just go to the development section n poke around til u see a rom u like. There's also a few threads on how to revert to stock if/when needed. Football n DroidTh3ory just released the new 2.11 w a few version (rooted/deodexed/debloated etc)
Ah, yes. Been fiddling around since I posted this. Saw the new Revolutionary rooting method too, which is nice. Just saw they posted all those new versions. This is what I need. Thanks for the reply!
fairly new to the rooting process myself, the eris was my first android and rooted that running cyanogen, but it crapped out on me because i had an issue with the trackball. at any rate...
i've rooted my tb and have been having more and more force close issues, sometimes causing me to miss an alarm in the morning. no fun. i'd like to run the latest 2.11 ruu deodexed so i can theme it, i know i like to tweak with the appearance. currently just running stock sense with a root, no other mods, but i am curious if i flash 2.11, which radio(s) should i have? i've seen screen shots where it appears a person has 2 radios, i've seen posts with links to 2-in-1 radios for the lte/cdma networks and i've seen posts where ppl say to mix and match.
basically, i'd like to run something stable, fast and smooth without having to set extra alarm clocks! initially i rooted so i'd be able to take advantage of wireless tethering, but i'd like to do a bit more with it. could someone please advise??

I think I'm correct in saying that if it says "RUU" its an .exe file so it can be added without rooting. I have the 211 RUU and it installed without rooting. You cn use the Revolutionary method for s-off and it also roots your phone if you want to. However, I think there is no way of going back to s-on once you use revolutionary method.

[Q] [View] - Noob Question - Rooting

I’ve been on this forum for a few weeks now and seen many posts on rooting/s-off etc, and I am confused over the options. (thanks to Globatron and others for their hard work). I was hoping that someone could give me the right reference.
I have the stock View with GB and the OTA update has been staring at me for some time now. I don’t (yet) want to upgrade To HC but I do want to do things like backups, remove Sprint bloatware etc. I understand that I have to root the device to do this. Can anyone point me to the steps necessary to root my stock View? Do I just run the prerequisite steps in Globatrons thread? Which steps specifically?
If I do this, and later decide to update to the OTA HC update, will that brick the View? Do I have to use one of the custom ROMs (and approaches) documented here?
Also, if someone here does a custom ICS ROM for the View, could we go from GB direct, or would we have to go GB > HC > ICS?
Thx for your help.
From Stock GB you have to perform all the steps in the Globaltron thread that take you from GB to S-OFF HC.
Yes you can revert back to stock GB , that process is also in his thread. You would have to revert to do the official OTA update, however there is no functional difference in the official OTA and the Globaltron OTA, other than root and S-OFF.
ICS , no one knows for sure since its months away , but its built on top of HC , so very unlikely you would revert to GB to do a custom ICS ROM.
Thx. However, I don't want to go to HC. I just want to get GB rooted / s-off. At what point in Globatron's steps do I stop? (just want to make sure I don't do one extra step that leads into HC and then restart into soft bricked mode).
This is what you want - no more, no less: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194709
Follow the instructions and you will have GB, root and S-OFF
don't forget to thank globatron...!
Sent from my HTC Flyer P510e using xda premium
You could also go to http://revolutionary.io and follow the instructions there. If you were looking for more options (but Globatron's the man in this territory).

DJ, just take it one step at a time. Make sure you check for your Hboot version before starting. Should be the 09 something. That's what mine was.
Globatron made an excellent step by step guide. It is pretty much automated and definitely way easier than it looks. Read through the steps a few times before doing it. Then when you actually get it done, you'll think to yourself "Wow, that was easy!"

Best Way to Root EVO View

Just ordered one today and want to be prepared when it arrives. Looked through the dev section but wanted to get opinions from some people here.
It says it will be shipping with Gingerbread. What is the best way to root with Gingerbread? Would it be this link?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194709
In the end I would like to have Honeycomb running on my device rooted. Can I just run it like that and flash a honeycomb Rom? I saw a thread with people having to flash back to Gingerbread to get the official Honeycomb Rom. What would be the point or advantage to this? I am definitely not new to rooting and like to be there when the device first rolls out so I am there from the start but I am juming into this device pretty late to the party so there seems like a few different options to go with.
Appreciate any help with an overview and best direction to go. I am sure others who purchased the device today would find this useful as well.....
Thanks in advance guys...Looking forward to hanging with the view folks. Seems like a cool crowd!
That would be the best way.
If you want to go to Honeycomb and retain the root/S-OFF (google that if you dont know) then you must follow this guide to go to Honeycomb:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1409306
If you want stock Honeycomb with NO ROOT you should NOT ROOT Gingerbread and just check for over the air updates.

Want s-off and honeycomb. Is there no rooted stock honeycomb ROM to flash in cwm after rooting in gingerbread? Also is the latest hboot that devices are shipping with the ones that can be rooted?

OK follow that guide.
You can't just flash a HC ROM over Gingerbread, because the hboot versions are different. Once you have followed that guide, you can flash and Honeycomb ROM.
Also I don't thing that HTC updated the View's hboot. You can check by rebooting while holding the volume done key and you will see hboot version.

Cool, thanks...that pretty much answered my question why you couldn't just flash a honeycomb ROM over a rooted gingerbread ROM.

Gingerbread to ICS (CDMA)

Long story short… I have been very busy for the last 6 months and not been keeping up with all the changes for the CDMA EVO 3D. I am not really sure the best way to get from here to there. I am not a noob and don’t really need my hand held or a dummy’s guide (I have been messing with Android since the HTC Hero and rooted lots of phones and pads). There has been just to many new ways to root and leaked roms…etc. It would be nice to skip all the BS and get caught up with what most people are currently doing.
My current config…
H-Boot: 1.40 s-off via Revolutionary Method
Recovery: TWRP v2.1.1
Rom: ViperRom Redline v2.5 RC2
Would it be better to just RUU back to stock Gingerbread then upgrade to ICS and re-root or is better way to get to ICS with root???? I am not trying save anything on my phone. I am a big fan of wiping and super wiping multiple times before loading a new rom. Also is there any benefit to H-Boot 1.5 or higher?
If this has already be asked can you point me to the correct thread.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If I'm reading right, just search the development forums for an ics rom, flash it and you're good to go. NEVER TAKE OTA
Sent from my EVO 3DMA with a little "Common Sense"
Tl;dr.
Just kidding. I'm running the latest ics rooted Roms on hboot 1.4 revolutionary s-off. I ran freeza's firmware update without the new hboot. This lets me run everything except the new kernel (which most new Roms don't use). If you insist on the new kernel, you can upgrade the hboot too, but you lose the ability to flash aosp and GB Roms.
So, in short, you just need to pick a rooted ics Rom and go. I like zr3dx, Meanrom, homebrew, or common ground.
I also recommend you change to 4ext recovery. It's really nice.

Thanks that was exactly what I needed and I was getting tired of reading all the posts about the VM fiasco, and sticking a wire in the SD card…etc.
You are right it was “Tl;dr” but I also hate threads that go on forever because you don’t have enough info to answer the question.

after downgrading from ICS to GB, my free ram become low from free 380mb on ICS to 222 on GB

Been away for a while could use some help

Well... After an issue with the digitizer in my phone I had to finally have it recently replaced. I had recently loaded the ICS OTA and actually for the most part liked it alot. I have rooted and done some roms with my 3d when it was Hboot 1.4 with Rev S off and root method. But my phone is currently Hboot 1.5 after replacing it. I havent loaded it to the OTA for ICS. But im trying to decide what I want to do. Id like to root and S off if I can and find a Rom/OTA that works great with the best performance and options with reduced bloat. ICS is pretty cool that I used, but seemed like some bugs with it to. Any suggestions of help on getting me there and in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Ive done some searches here and there on the forum. But really after taking time out for a medical issue I havent been in the loop til now. Thanks ahead of time for any help and suggestions you can push my way.

Here's what I would do in your situation:
1. Do HTC unlock and flash 4EXT recovery
2. Backup current ROM so you have a nandroid of GB stock
3. Root GB stock ROM and do JuopunutBear (wire trick) with GB version to gain S-OFF
4. Flash 2.89 RUU.exe to get solid Sprint ICS base (firmware and software)
5. Flash Jbear Sprint ICS (1.58.5858) or engineering (ENG) bootloader
6. Flash 4EXT recovery (via fastboot flash recovery.img)
7. Backup current ROM so you have a nandroid of ICS stock
8. Flash whatever ROM's you want to try and check them out
If all the ROM's you are interested in are ICS Sense, then the JB Sprint ICS bootloader is fine, but if you want to flash and run GB and AOSP ROM's the ENG bootloader is a better choice, but it won't run the 2.89 stock kernel.
That's one opinion.

Thanks Ramjet. What are you using or have you used? Is ICS the latest? Any other good stuff out there?
If anyone else has suggestions or preferences Id love to hear them.

The Sprint ICS 2.89.651.2 release with Sense 3.6 is the latest official build, but there have been several CM10 based ROM's released using the AOSP 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean) base, and some Sense 4.0 and 4.1 ROM's that run on the E3D.
My favorites are still MeanROM ICS 2.6 and SOS M 2.6.1 which use the same base. Here's a post I wrote back in May that enumerates the fixes mikeyxda had done to the VM leak base at that time and most of those fixes and enhancements were transferred to the Sprint ICS 2.89 based version, with some new ones added. SOS M is de-Sensed and offers a lot of customization built-in and via the Aroma installer with a minimal amount of effort. Both ROM's are fully functional and have good reliability, performance and battery life.
I've tested a lot of interesting ROM's with some unique features including Paranoid Devil with a tablet configuration option and Charmander with Sense 4, but they both have some stuff not working, including 3D and WiMax/4G. If you don't need those features you might also want to try some of the AOSP ROM's (CM9, CM10 and MIUI) since they are very light and clean, and a lot of the current development activity seems to be with those ROM's. If you want a full ICS Sense 3.6 based ROM with a lot of mods integrated, Cool ICS is worth a look too.
ramjet73
Thanks Ramjet. Im gonna check out the MeanRom ICS, SOS and Cool ICS. In past ive liked a sense based rom but Im open to other stuff. My main thing is wanting as few as issues or non working things as possible. Even the OTA of ICS has to muc issues. But the in general feel and look was good.
Thanks for the input and direction. I may hit you up on some advice if thats cool? Thanks again.
Just use the search function to find all the info on the stuff above Ramjet? or is there a good central location that might have links for everything?

Ok So I got it unlocked. and installed the APK of the 4EXXT recovery. But its giving me some issues saying I need S-off before I can use it? I assume its a program that runs on the Phone not a recovery like ive been used to with the boot loader? If its a flash that flashes the boot loader i seem to be having issues finding it. How do I need to go about rooting? Is root the same as S off? Its been a while since doing all this kinda stuff and just getting back into it. Thanks for any direction you can give me.

This post by mpgrimm2 (part of his overall guide) covers flashing a custom recovery (like 4EXT) and superuser from the PC command prompt via fastboot. Those are the two steps required for rooting, after you have HTC unlocked.
Once you've done that you can move on to gaining S-OFF with either the JuopunutBear (wire trick) or Hboot downgrade method, which is setting the security off for the NAND memory of your phone, and allows you to flash more stuff and not have to use the fastboot command to do it.
It's probably time to move on to the Q&A forum since this has changed from an advice thread into a help thread.
