Just curious if any roms or anything are being developed for the DX2. I have an upgrade available and the $50 off loyalty user discount, and I'm debating between this, the iPhone, or the Charge(Really don't want to pay 250 for a phone but MEH)...
Being as I have a D1 now, and am getting an Asus Transformer on Monday, I really don't need a Android phone so I'm leaning to the iPhone. The DX2 keeps drawing me back with its Tegra 2 >_>

As soon as we have an SBF development will start. Will the previous bootstrap method work if it is modified for our phone? Maybe.
P3Droid confirmed TBH has plans for development of the X2 and D3 a few hours ago.
He also said they don't have a X2 yet, so no real time frame was given.

Man, I love those guys. They never let us down.
someone with a clue could just go ahead and try Edgan's 2nd init:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109287
if someone dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p[1 to 17] of=/sdcard/dx2-blk0p[1 to 17] i can poke around, see if your init.rc has changed, etc. *.prop files and /proc/mounts or output of /bin/df -h would help. gitbrew.org would probably give you space to host.
can y'all root with gingerbreak? please don't try the above 'dd' command unless you know what you are doing. you'll need root anyway...
pretty sure your device is much like atrix but cdma, less ram, smaller emmc, no webtop or front facing camera. otherwise, a lot of atrix tricks might work for you, but we don't have a huge number of devs working on our phone either =(
Yes u can root with gingerbreak
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
It looks like they're labled 1-18 on the x2, I'll take a look after I get back from the gym.
Is there an atrix init.rc I could run a diff on?
1-18 is just like ours, but we have /webtop on p13, what do you have there? (p18 is our /sdcard and so would not be needed in a dump, nor would p16, our /data)
otherwise similar to: http://a-trix.net/wiki/index.php/Partitions ?
i've extracted atrix CG56 (boot.img) ramdisk and init.rc, attached to this post, please share your init.rc, *.prop, or just full system dump if you can.
whether Edgan's 2nd init hack will work (breaking in at mount_ext3.sh) depends on your particular init.rc and /system. also, we do not yet have a GUI bootmenu for atrix 2nd init. tenfar ported our CWM but i think others are getting the recovery built more or less direct from his git so you could port that somewhat easily.
if there is a translation of build.prop IDs to sbf filenames for your phone someone should detail that so the .sbf file can be pulled. (might be also depend on /default.prop from ramdisk) surely this is known by someone. otherwise a VZ employee should be kindly encouraged to leak it so you can dev safely!

Not sure I can build an sbf name from that. Do you also have a default.prop?
I'm a little busy and this guy may also be able to figure out the rsd secure site for you:
http://modmymobile.com/forums/659-motorola-atrix-4g-general/562049-atrix-firmwares-superthread.html
AFAIK all Motorolas are hosted the same (US releases?) but filenames differ...
Good news is that init.rc looks similar enough that Edgan's 2nd init trick would probably work without almost any changes... Will diff more thoroughly later..

Well, if this means anything, the atrix already has a sbf, and a recovery. So hopefully the devs can do something with it for the dx2. I know p3droid is out, but all in all, I don't think it really matters. There's gonna be other devs working on this phone once everything gets figured out, its gonna be bad ass. It just takes time

Would it be possible to take the ota that has been downloaded and add our own framework that would be odexed and have it install some cracks?
We have the ota and why not take that and take out the firmware inside and replace with our own methods. Since we already have the framework hacked to unlock the hotspot feature we should be able to replace it via update then.
Just a thought. I'm not sure if it would work but we can try

Yeah, but we can't sign it? Or better yet, you can open a zip and push it in without breaking it. I've done that with classes.dex to hack the hotspot in framework.jar and no problems
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Even if you had all the same files and just rearranged what order they appeared it would still break the MD5sum, There is a very very small change that modifying a file would produce a collision between the signed copy and the modified copy

Ok.... Just wish we could manipulate their ota...
What if we didn't rearange. Like if we hacked the framework.jar and kept that the same but just swapped out theirs for ours keeping all else intact. WiFi tether is a huge plus right now until full root comes

So do I, I haven't done any cooking or development myself. But I am almost done a physics and comp sci major and took a class on cryptography (the only reason I know how MD5 works) so I can follow along with some of the stuff.
I took the OTA myself, which people say is terrible, but the 2.3.3 will be rooted easy enough. It always is. I have faith in the devs.

You mentioned you're familiar with MD5s, do you think you may be able to figure out a way to modify something without affecting the MD5? I'm sure it has to have some weaknesses being how small it is compared to the size of the file
No Root Needed

If im understanding the article I just read on 2nd init, its pointless to run this unless you have a rom to install or are building a rom that uses it. This mod doesn't currently do anything for basic users and there is no need to have it currently. This mod is for serious developers only, am I right naven? I mean what's the point of hijacking the init if you have nothing to overwrite the boot process with? This is a very important mod , don't get me wrong and im very thankful for it.

Pretty much. That's why I didn't bother posting a long post about it. If you know how to use this, you can do pretty much anything shy of flashing a kernel or recovery.

Honestly, I think that guy was just a sham, no offense, but I tried to contact him so that I could fork his code and assist in getting Cyanogen, but he never contacted me back, and the code on his github hasn't even been touched for like two months.
So, we have 2nd init, but no one is doing anything with it. Sure wish I knew more about how to move CM7 to our device. I have some free time but no knowledge.
Also, I haven't noticed this 2nd-init being discussed on other forums. Shouldn't you post it in as many places aa possible to gather more interest? Just a thought.

Please don't ever say that no one is doing anything with this. I am. CM7 is what I'm trying to do and with a dedicated version for the x2 (which my current version is a port of the ATRIX), I might be able to do something. The ONLY thing keeping me from continuing with CM7 is the new init script for it. Right now, I'm stuck though until kernel.org is back up and running.
I'm wondering, with 2nd init, would it be possible to boot into tenfars recovery without having to plug your phone in? If so, how hard would it be to implement?

Even if you have no coding experience at all, you can help. Testing is the easiest way to help. There are millions of lines of code and ways to set up these phones. Testing is the most important part of the development process. Without testers bugs will roam free. There are two separate major test categories, kernels and roms. Then minor testing such as mods/themes/etc. Kernels are the brains of the phone. Roms is the body. Both need to be tested and both need to be improved. When you test please do more than just quadrant. Make specific repeatable comments that will help some one fix the issue. Thanks and happy testing

Hell I will even let you remote control my computer. Just don't go into the folder that says mmmm lol
No need. I actually know how to install a 64 bit operating system. Lol. Im slowly working on it. Its not a bootloader problem. Motorolas official engineering phones with real unlocked factory bootloaders dont have 4g. So obviously we gotta look elsewhere. Its possibly recovery related or some form of security check. Once we find exactly what it we can fix it. The best way is to dd everything. Like dd / lol. Once with stock, then after unlock only then recovey change. Once all three is pulled. Someone needs to run a diff, or physically cross check everything, eek. Once the culprit is found we will squash it. so obviously you can see this will be time consuming. Way more time then I ever get. I would have to take a vacation just to get that kind of time. I can do the squashing after the fact but atm im stuck trying to blindly fix it

Okay this is to everyone wanting to help. Find me cool patches. Remember your looking for arm no neon stuff the kernel is 2.6.32.9(kinda). I might update to .50 if I can ever find those patches. Most stuff I can manually patch and do, but 2.6.32.* patches are huge and I need .patch's to do that. If you find kernels from other phones with cool stuff please make sure they actually post source. A bfs 400+ patch for 2.6.32.9 would be awesome, so would proper autogroups. Post findings here.

Think we could just pull the files off a ROM that has HDMI mirroring and put them in CM7? Or would we have to change stuff in the files?

Motodev.com has motorola specific api, including hdmi. Are these specific to blur or only kernel? I know the original Droid x had an app called real hdmi and another called xternaldisplay which added TV out on a device that didn't support it.
Maybe we can make a similar app using their API?
edit: cool my response took forever to type. Someone already suggested something similar

Unfortunately, the Moto HDMI files are blur infested POS's. What would have to happen is the HDMI files will need to be pulled from Moto's repo and then reworked. Starting with the api might be a good start, however, you now need to figure out the drivers.. That is a PITA.
Ciao!
Got something for you IDMA... let me get you a link.
EDIT FOR THE LINK!
Nebtop Universal HDMI
I think you may wanna start there, or at least check it out.
I think the application will work for our device; however, I don't have an HDMI cable or experience with it to try and test out.

Unfortunately for this to work it would appear we would need webtop working on the x2, a project that was abandoned several months ago due to the x2's limited memory. For those curious, you can read through the thread here.
Just try it please.
No hate intended.
Edit: I just saw that WebTop was required, but I wanna see if you at least get the HDMI output.

In theory, No, its a Driver that has to be built into the ROM, that will "tick" if it is activated. By 'built into a ROM' I mean: In the System area of the device. Maybe even a fstab like file could be the problem, while the driver is built into the Kernel. I'm still looking into it, but no way to test

Tried it, nada. Loads some files but no mirroring.

Found this in build prop I'm still new to editing stuff. Is this any help to any one?
Could you point a generic hdmi app with this to the port?
ro.hdmi.mirror.enable=false
ro.hdmi.default.app=
hw.overlay.path.config=
