Just ordered my prime...INTO THE FEUD! - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

SO regardless of all the problems everyone is posting on the forums I have decided to jump into the feud and get one for my own! Here's to hoping that I receive a problem free or almost problem free one!
Is there any advice you guys have for me to effectively screen for problems?
So far I know to perform the following:
Wifi speed/range test
Touch screen digitizer test
GPS (probably doesn't work but hey why not)
Light bleed?
Creaks?
Screen lifting?
Anything else that I missed? Thanks for the help.

You left me speechless this is classic..........

I was really hoping someone would reply with something I might have missed or any other words of advice. As a consumer that is excited about a product we often overlook any issues when we open the box because we're so excited to use our new product. I just want to make sure I get a perfect or close to perfect prime if that is not too much to ask. Thank you.

PROBLEMS? I LUV PROBLEMS!

Dead pixel. Crazy the amount of prime i heard with dead pixel.

Probably one of the biggest things you need to check, "Serial Number Unknown"
Unless, of course, you want to be stuck on the stock firmware with No ICS, and not be able to root.
Go to SETTINGS, then click on STATUS. If it says "Serial Number Unknown" then you are screwed.

And I get flamed lol

Thanks for the input you guys. I was in no way trying to troll anyone but after reading through this forum how can anyone not fear? I will make sure to keep an eye out for dead pixels and the unknown serial bug. Thanks again.

Just got my Prime from J&R
See my post in the J&R pre-order thread. Pasting content below. Sooooo excited about receiving my Prime. It's beautiful and free of any physical problems you described. Software issues and GPS flakiness I can deal with. My 10 year old son's having fun with the Shadowgun Game - It looks so freaking amazing. He's my game tester. Prime users who get a physical defect free prime will just be too thrilled. My sympathies with the few who report the physical defects. Software will keep on improving. Going to root over the weekend after reading up some more.

Loving it. And all's well. No known issues, like scratches on aluminum back, back light bleeds, stuck picsels, dings and dents on edges etc. GPS works fine with Wifi. Did not try it without yet. Took the ICS upgrade and at 4.03 now. Everything works fine and looks snappy. Loading all my movies and music first. Added my 16 GB MicroSD PNY Class 10 card. It does jut out a bit, but no biggie. I had asked JR to bump up my shipping to overnight shipping a couple of days earlier when I was inquiring about when I would get the prime. They said it could be anytime in January, but obliged me by bumping up my shipping. It shipped yesterday and I got it today itself at 11:00 am - So I got it overnight as promised. My dock is still pending with JR.com. Ordered 32 GB Champagne on 12/2/11 - received today 1/12/12. Yeah!!!. So excited. Movies look fantastic with just MP4. Going to try MKV next.

Prime Review

Never posted here and perhaps this post isn't necessary but felt compelled. I preordered from Amazon on 11/22 and was salivating for a month until the GPS issues started to be reported. The salivating turned to apprehension. On 1/3 I received the Prime and it is indeed gorgeous. Sadly I'm suffering the same problems as most. No need to beat a dead horse. The GPS issue I can stomach since I have a bluetooth Garmin that works fine with the Prime. However the poor GPS performance is extremely disappointing. Simply transferring files from my laptop to the Prime over wi-fi was much slower that transferring between other devices in my home. In fact so far I'd say it's unusable in that regard. I should add that I'm sitting less than 3 feet from my router when transferring.
Perhaps my expectations were too high but with the keyboard my plan was that this device would replace my laptop for all but the most rigorous tasks. That's not going to happen and now I'm not even sure I'm going to order the keyboard.
BTW BT is weak as well. If all of these issues are indeed due to the aluminum case it's just unbelievable to me that a company could screw up this bad. I'm hopeful that someone comes up with something even if it's just providing instruction on how/where to take a drill to the darn thing. But my expectations aren probably too high on this front too.
In short unless someone has disposable income I'd advise they steer clear and wait for a better offering. I'll likely keep mine until something better appears then I'll be putting it on Ebay.
That's not review, you are beating the dead horse....

Well I guess you're right. A mod can remove and my feelings won't get hurt.
I guess I just wanted to get my shots in on that horse.
ride the dead horse.
a drill won't fix it. you need to point the screen at the router.
the entire foundation of the tablet is built into the aluminum case. everything is screwed into it.
the antennas are on either side of the front-facing camera. want better reception, point the tablet screen in the direction of your router or BT tether
How to Bluetooth tether?
>How to Bluetooth tether?
Put phone in one can and tablet in the other (use bigger can for tablet)

Screen Issue

I have this weird problem on my Galaxy Tab. It seems like water is under the screen and I cannot get it out. I have put rice on it and left it in a box to see if it goes away but don't think it did anything. Now I have no idea how water got in there and believe it never even was dropped it water at all. Although other people do use the tablet and sometimes little kids. Any idea how to get rid of it

It's a long stretch, however you could try placing it in a sealable bag with some silica gel.
Otherwise, you're looking at dismantling the tab to check for internal damage.
I had this issue and ended up sending it in for repairs. They replaced the tab so I presume it is not easily fixed. Sorry
I've saw posts saying that putting the Tab in a fridge for a while would help with this problem - but even if that usually does work, I don't think it would work with a slick that big.
Best bet would be to send it in for repairs (you have warranty right?) - they'll most probably replace the tab with one that has a newer screen, where these defects supposedly don't happen (or happen very rarely).
I was hoping I wouldn't have to send it in. I don't believe I have the receipt anymore, would they care? I believe almost every company would ask for a receipt for warranty repairs but this tablet hasn't even been out for a whole year yet so I hope they will let me send it in. Also my tablet is rooted, should I unroot it, and if I had to unroot it what would be the easiest way?
I feel your pain. I only had mine fore a few days before it got sent away for a few weeks.
Yeah unroot it. And keep all your reciepts!
ha! there used to be 20-30 threads around here about this; sadly we have no forum moderation so I don't even blame people if they can't find it by searching. It's not water; caused by pressure on the back of the LCD. Search these forums for "newton's rings." This was a problem for a large percentage of the first run of the GT10.1. Most of us sent them in to Samsung and had them repaired. They know about the problem and won't question you at all. Like I said, search the forums for newton's rings and you'll find hundreds of answers.
My suggestion is to send it in to samsung (search to figure out how people did it). It doesn't affect the use of the tab, but it will affect resale value... It only took them about 2 weeks from the day I put it in the mail to the day I got it back. And yes: make a nandroid backup and then unroot and go back to stock before you send it in. When you get it back, it's as simple as installing CWM and then just flash the nandroid. (you can search for answers to how to do that, however. Or look in the dev section).
It's not water. Here's the really long discussion thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130230
I sent mine back to Verizon (I have the LTE 4G version) and got a replacement.

Got mine back from RMA today...

So far so good. I actually turned on my bluetooth radio and my wifi speeds were the same. First time I've seen this happen on multiple tablets. I also switched from the gray to the other color champagne. I actually like this lighter color better, but it will be in a case anyway. So far so good. No bleed, no dead pixels. I don't care about the GPS, but I ran that GPS test software anyway. Inside I connected to 8 birds in about 10 seconds or less. That is also something I never had. By the way, this is a C2 serial. The only thing I was told by Asus was this tablet was specifically tested and used prior to me getting it. I can tell it was, a couple small finger prints and a charged battery. So far so good, I hope it lasts!

Do you have a bluetooth speaker, or something to pair it to and transfer data while trying your speedtests?
Mine will be going in for this in the near future and I want to know that it does actually work on some units.
I can turn on bluetooth, and even pair it without really any change in wifi performance. As soon as you transmit to a speaker though it plummets to 400k or less.
Thats awesome. Got mine back last Friday still cant use wifi and bloothooth together and no GPS. C10 was shipped.
Got my tested one back from them and it had major dust and dead pixels from them... They didn't remove that plastic cover when they tested...
Gps worked good indoors on par with my EVO 3d
WiFi was decent
I don't use Bluetooth
But I am returning for a refund both tablet and dock to asus gonna get me a snapdragon tablet instead or maybe a ps vita idk yet maybe just an ultrabook
To much to choose from....
Idk if a tablet is really needed for me... A new phone would do it... Sprint needs to hurry up and release something!

Lol I remember you going crazy for this tablet before release. Too bad they returned you a bad unit. But hey, now you know tablets aren't right for you yet.
I'm glad I didn't jump on the evo3d (after loving the evo 4g)...I ended up waiting and getting the sgs2e4gt and couldn't be happier. So if you REALLY need a new phone, maybe get that one lol

my rma status finally changed to repairing after a month. I did call them the day before. Maybe they figured they should start working on it.

I sent them a nasty email complaining about the "waiting to Repair" status and in 3 hours they had a new serial number ready to ship...should be here tomorrow, within 48 hours of my email being sent, so complaining seems to motivate them.
I had a BCOK but they are sending me a C2O, hopefully it works well.

My Prime GPS in a moving car *Pics inside*

Ok for starters i don't really care if my Prime's GPS works or not or even came with one. I have my smart phone for that. But i understand there are some people out there that are upset because it was shipped with a GPS in the specs and it should work.& not have to put tinfoil or be in some sort of force field or perfect condition to work. I just picked up "another" Prime today, i got the Prime fever lol. Anyway here is two pictures one of me driving at around 45mph and another while i was filling up for gas at a stand still. Both off wifi obviously. I only tested this once so far and it is cloudy and raining today. So i figured this would be a great time to test being its not "sunny and clear" skys Now sorry for the blurry pics its very hard to take a picture with a 5.3" Galaxy Note phone while holding a Prime & hanging onto the wheel lol. Let alone not safe
I dunno if these results are considered good or acceptable compared to other devices. But this is what i got on 1 test run, on a rainy day mind you. That is for the GPS guru's to figure out from my pictures. And in reality i just wanted to have some fun testing.
Also... I am on 9.4.2.14 FW & 9.13 GPS
Here is a picture of me while i was at a stand still filling at the gas station

How come the speed window says 0?
72' accuracy while driving is crap, but at least you had a lock.
Let's not let this thread drift from the fix issue.
I just received my new asus prime today, 30 minutes before heading to airport. Needless to say it is dead, so I'll report back to see of quality conrtrol has improved , on the appropriate thread.

Did a friend make this offer or was it some random stranger? I wouldn't take that deal if it's a stranger, because he could have broken something or know about some hidden flaw.
If it's someone you trust, I would say go for it, UNLESS you get bad wifi reception. For me, when I use my prime in a place with ~2 bars of wifi on my cell phone, that means either NO wifi at all or maybe just barely a connection. And yeah, the GPS is bad, although you should contact ASUS and get the free GPS kit if that matters to you.
So why would I trade, then? Prime has a slightly larger battery, the keyboard dock (if you buy that) also has a slightly large battery, the screen is slightly better quality and definitely brighter (but check for dead pixels/light bleed before trading), and I like the slim form factor. Some things come down to preference but in general the prime is the better tablet, excluding the reception issues.
Hope that helps
it is from a stranger off craigslist. i don't think i'll do it now then since i didn't know the prime had big wifi problems. i'm also pretty happy with the tf300. the only pros the prime has for me would be that the prime is lighter and thinner, but not by much. thank's for your anser. =]
i went from a Prime to a Samsung galaxy tab 2 7", sucked, went to the 300 and noticed the screen was poorer than the Prime and the battery was way weaker. So I returned my 300 and bought another Prime, which eats the 300 for lunch. The 300 was just too flimsy for me besides the poorer screen and weaker battery.
I was considering swapping out my prime for a 300 only cause of the GPS issue but figured screw it really only use the GPS on my phone anyway

I have my prime on Craigslist right now trying 2 trade for a tf300. The only reason im trading is cause it is having trouble unlocking the bootloader it is in 100% perfect condition with box and receipt with the dock. I had a problem with where the sd card went in and sent it to ASUS they fixed it but sent it back fully reset and all my stuff gone. So when i decided i was going to unlock it and then i noticed the sd card didnt go in all the way in so befor i unlocked it i had asus fix it. It only 5 weeks old. Anyways im getting alot of calls for the trade but the only way i will trade is if someone has 32gb , dock keyboard, and the boxes they came in like new condition. My prime is like new and i spent over 700$ on it from bestbuy
