Stop Posting Nonsense/Trash - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I am a frequent user on the XDA Forums, but I have had just about enough of this pointless banter. Honestly, I see posts of complaint after complaint, where most of them are the same exact thing. GPS doesn't work, my wifi signal is poor, my wifi and bluetooth don't work simultaneously. The past two weeks has been filled with repeats and nonsense. If you don't want it just ****ing return it and don't whine here. Get a ****ing iPad or a Galaxy Tab 10.1 for all I care. Just stop filling this forum with garbage and go be productive. When you have a question post it in the correct area, which is not the general forums for the Transformer Prime. It is located in the Q&A area. It appears to be that most of you imbeciles are so idiotic that you don't know what Q&A means. Well, let me inform you about it means. It simply means Questions and Answers, which is blatantly obvious.
The only notable issue in my mind is the one that includes and unknown serial key/ID. This is important since the people suffering from this are the ones who can't receive updates. Not being able to receive updates will prevent them from ICS and future software/hardware updates which may fix the other current issues and others that may arise in the future. Having said this, I have noticed multiple threads about this issue and I would like us to use only one from now.
[WIP] Fixing Unknown Serial - this should be the only place where this issue is discussed upon.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1441913
For those who haven't even purchased the tablet or received it shouldn't be complaining about issues. Why do I say this? Well, it's because you may be lucky as I am and not have issues that haunt the other people who have it. For those who canceled their pre-orders please leave this forum alone, because all you do is make what a mess that already exists more messy and chaotic
I think the reason why the moderator of this forum is busy doing something else is that because he/she might be getting so irritated in merging, deleting and changing the location of posts. I know I would be, as it would literally be never ending, he/she may be up all night cleaning up what should be not have been even started. It should in space, just debris floating at zero g, in free fall, beginning to burn up in Earth's atmosphere.
I hope this message gets around to some of you, but for those who it doesn't I hope you break your Transformer Prime and can't get a RMA/Repacment/Refund, due to it being your own ignorance that lead to it breaking.
P.S. Sorry if my grammar is somewhat poor, because I just wrote this using the thumb keyboard on my TP. Why? 'Cause it is a great device no matter what trolls and dicks have to say.

Sticky plz

I didn't even get my Prime yet and I feel irritated by stupid posts.
In a nutshell: if you don't like it, return it and piss off.

Some of these posters have been trashing the Prime on other forums since before the Prime ever hit anyone's hands. +1 from me for getting tired of the regular complainers. I don't discount some have issues, but I do suspect some may be trolling to discredit a legit iPad threat, the Prime.

Keeping Gingerbread. What's the big deal about Honeycomb anyhow?

A few days ago was excited to see the Honeycomb update roll out. Running a rooted best buy flyer. The early reports of installing Honeycomb were not appealing. For some of us finding out the exact procedure (after rooting) is still a mystery. There is no clear cut procedure to update.
Other than some minor security enhancements and a tad more speed, what's the big deal to upgrade anyhow?
The newness of HC will eventually wear off and what are you left with? There are posts about apps not working, formatting issues, sluggishness, loss of menu buttons, system crashes, browser crashes, game installation issues, loss of connectivity, gps not locking...etc, WOW!!!
This is not a motivator to upgrade. I'm sure there are embarrassed and pissed of users who were sorry they upgraded.
I'm going to wait until this things are ironed out and some smart dev stops whining about "too many people are pm'ing them for help." Being a dev has it's responsibilities. Telling users to stop asking for help in an open forum is frigging disgraceful. Forums are for helping people not telling people to shut up. We are all volunteers trying to help each other. Get a reality check.
It's going to be a while until most of the apps in the Android market fully support Honeycomb on tablets. For now Gingerbread works fine, headache-free.

First off, you need to do some damn research as to why Honeycomb is great for tablets. Gingerbread was built for phones, Honeycomb was built for tablets. It makes the most out of your screen space so you can multitask and use larger format interfaces.
Second... WOW.
Congratulations on being the most ignorant petulant child of a poster to ever step into XDA. These developers do what they do out of their own personal interest and creativity. They have NO responsibility to support, update or even RELEASE material to this website. If people like you pulled their head out of their ass long enough to thoroughly read the entire set of instructions and also had a high enough level of reading comprehension to understand said instructions, they wouldn't be getting bombarded with the stupidest PM's for **** like "hai ur rom borke my tablet, i dint wipe data cuz i wunted to save my angry berds game". Calling the developers whiny for not wanting to deal with that? Good lord you're dumb. YOU need to get a reality check before you get banned. I sincerely hope you hard brick your tablet in the near future and no dev responds to your cry for help.

This is the one and only post I will make on this topic.
I never asked people not to ask for help, I told them to do it in the forums where others could learn from the answers. I make no apologies whatsoever for that position.
Continuously dealing with PMs makes it impossible to deal with the underlying issue for the benefit of the whole community. It's pretty selfish to consider oneself entitled to individual support to the detriment of everyone else. In as far as is possible I have tried to answer every single question asked in every thread I have posted, I'm sure there have been a few missed but the number is small. When people have done that and are still stuck I have provided additional support via teamviewer.
In addition to the honeycomb upgrade released at that time for the Flyer I was working on the S-OFF upgrade for the Evo view, a device which I don't even own and for which I had to start form scratch by first patching the honeycomb hboot. This is a device who's users are pretty much all located in a timezone which meant working through the night for me to support them.
I gave up the vast majority of my Christmas/New Year vacation to these two things and then providing support for them. Yes, there is a responsibility on developers to support their work however that responsibility is primarily to the community, not to any one individual. I have more than discharged any developer responsibilities for work I have provided, had I answered all the PMs I received in that time neither of these two items would yet be resolved.
Is ICS not being developed for this tablet? Honeycomb is old news already.

Keep the flames coming . I'm entitled to my opinion in a public forum. Yes, there are some ignorant requests from people, but there is a polite way of handling things? Moderator's can't ban because they don't agree with somebody's post. Have been involved with XDA since 2008. There are hundreds of forums on a multitude of handsets with millions of posts. All the hard work and long hours are greatly appreciated. This doesn't mean I'm going to sheepishly sit on the sidelines and kiss ass and NOT VOICE AN OPINION. This is a tablet. This is the flyer forum. There are many developers (myself included). I'm not in high school and probably more experienced in the real world than some of these college kids hoping I'll brick my device. It's a $300 tablet that is fun to play with. It's a grain of sand on the beach compared to my other toys. If it bricks will throw it away and get another one.
Was happy to see a honeycomb update. Before you tar and feather the mailman, understand this thread is not about bad mouthing a dev who contributes a lot to the XDA community. It's about respectful communication.
The cons outweigh any benefit to move to honeycomb at the moment IMO.
BTW, this isn't the Soviet Union.

There really wouldn't be much of an issue if what you said was respectful. But there was absolutely nothing respectful about what you said:

Well you know some people just should just not be allowed to own guns or high tech equipment. But even for those people that have marginal grasp of proper operation of such devices, it would still be OK as long as they only hurt themselves and not those that try to help them. This thread was obviously started by someone that doesn't know how to keep from hurting others and it belongs on the dumpster.
Pretty sad that the OP feels justified to come on here and "speak his opinion" by insulting globatron and call him a whiner. I've been on XDA through 3 different devices over 4 years, and I honestly think he is the most helpful and generous with his time I have seen of any developer or user on all of XDA. He answers just about every question asked of him, and then some. Many developers don't even come close to taking the time to do that. And they shouldn't have to, anyway. Whoever said that just because you are a developer, you have to become everyone's personal unpaid tech support person?
As globatron already indicated, he didn't say he wouldn't help anyone. He just posted some steps to try if you have issues, before bombarding him with PMs. He will still help, and I have seen him help numerous people by opening up a team viewersession, and getting it done through all hours of the night. Is there any forum in the entire internet where a total stranger will give you such help? Not just for smartphones/tablets, but for ANYTHING?
I also don't see the point in coming on here and pigeon-holing your critics as being high-schoolers, and bragging about how you are so rich that you don't care of you brick your Flyer.
No clear cut procedure to update to HC? About 5or 10 minutes of browsing and reading and you would have found that globatron's guide is the way to go. And he was kind enough to spoon feed you the link. All you have to do is download the file and run the .exe. How much easier could it be?
I haven't experienced any system or browser crashes on HC. I'm also puzzled about some people's comments on sluggishness. HC is very snappy for me. Everything seems as responsive as GB. Which is impressive, considering HC is heavier on eye candy and animations. As far as game/app compatibility, it depends on what apps you use. I haven't experienced any compatibility issues. All the core non-game apps I use run exactly as they do on GB. I don't play a huge number of games, but the ones I do play work fine. I know there are some games out there that have issues (Gameloft in particular?). But if the ones you use are compatible, it doesn't matter.
HC is a completely different OS experience from GB, designed for tablet screens rather then a small phone screen. The launcher and menus are all laid out taking advantage of the increased screen real estate. Not sure if its important to you, but the pen integration is hugely increased, and works on many apps, not just Notes and PDFs.
GB was a perfectly functional OS. But it was really just an incremental update of Froyo. HC feels much more refined. While using the Flyer with GB made it feel like just a really big smartphone, HC actually makes it feel like something a step above that. If you don't like the update, its not that hard to roll it back to GB.
Firstly - respect and kudos to the devs and experts that help those of us who are less informed about android and the flyer.
But, I do share something of the OPs sentiment.
The HC upgrade is a pros and cons thing; with the loss of function keys and some reported incompatibilities and some users reporting a slow down.
It is a balance of pros and cons.
The HC upgrade is a step into the unknown and there is no easy downgrade path (which maintains your warranty if you get into difficulty). So it is a plunge... and I too have not yet taken it.

To be honest guys, this thread could have been helpful for people who are still decided whether they should upgrade to HC or not. Or at least a good thread for discussion. I personally enjoy reading people's opinion regarding this topic as I'm currently attempting to enjoy HC.

Anyone noticed what kind of damage you are doing to the Prime?

Hey guys,
I really need to rant a little bit now.
This thread is for everyone creating all those "kill ASUS on facebook/twitter/blog sites" threads.
I really understand your angryness about the initial issues with the Prime, but has anyone of you guys ever thought about that you are doing huge damage to both ASUS and yourself with those hate campaigns?
Best example: "Lets spread information about minor software problems all over the web and its major blog sites"
This is ridicioulus guys... Seriously, ASUS really can't fix for example the serialnumber issue within 3 days...
They need to find out what's wrong first. After that they need to fix the problem. After fixing the testing follows.
All this needs time. And spreading rather unprofessional information all around the web won't speed this up at all.
But now to the main part of my rant: the damage being done to us, the owners of the Prime.
Do you guys really think you are doing anything good with those social attacks?
In fact you are driving many people away from the Prime for reasons which are seriously non-issues.
Lets re-think about the issues and ASUS reactions:
GPS issue: ASUS confirmed, that this might be a hardware problem,
it seems they are starting a bonus program for the ones not happy with the GPS (either 6 more months of warranty or a full refund)
This is actually really embarassing for them, but I couldn't think of any better method to solve this issue
(we are talking about realistic methods here, giving you a free TF700 is not realistic)
The Wifi issue: Well actually we do not know much about this.
ASUS told us it's not a hardware issue, rather an issue of specific batches with wrong firmware. We will see in the future what they can do here
The Wifi/BT issue: As several members found out this is a real non-issue. Speed drops appear across all devices and platforms when using BT and Wifi together. Nothing really to complain about here
Random lockups and reboots and unknown serial number issue: ASUS is aware of these problems, already got fixes and is testing these fixes right now.
Nobody else tests fixes with real customers in a public forum. Thats' great!
Now lets talk about that damage I am always talking about:
Here the facts:
Reporting minor software issue (GPS and Wifi aside here) definitely leads to a smaller customer base for the Prime
Major news sites falsely reported the serial number problem as a hardware problem, leading to confused users which do not want to buy this tablet
Smaller userbases always lead to less support, both from the company and also from our own developers.
Less company support means that we will get less often and lower quality updates for our Prime. The device will be abandonned much faster than devices with large customer bases
Less dev support means less innovating new features from our side, less custom ROMs, less custom kernels, in fact the smaller the userbase the faster the Prime development will go dead
Think of the HTC HD2: the ultimate development phone. Its rather big userbase lead to incredible development. They have everything on that phone: Win 6.x, WP 7, Android 2.x and 4.x, real Linux... Smaller userbases ultimately lead to worse device development
I guess it's already too late, the damage being done by you and the major blog sites is irreparable.
Non tech-focused customers who read Engadget won't get a Prime now.
But these non-tech focused guys are the imporatn part of a customer base.
We tech guys here are always a very minor part of a device's customer base.
Ah and by the way: If you buy a product directly after launch, you have to expect those kind of problems.
I haven't seen any product launch in the last years which had not initial problems and issues. No matter if tablet or phones, HTC or Samsung...
ASUS is always one of the first (the first?) major companies, providing support on xda-developers. That is nothing usual for big companies like ASUS.
Give them credit for this move.
I hope someone actually read that text...
I completely agree, thanks for this post. However the problem is it are mostly people who haven't even bought the Prime are *****ing the most.
I couldn't agree more, *****ing about the problem isn't gonna get anything solved. If you have problems try to help, that way things can get fixed more quickly and then everyone (or at least most) can be happy.
read it and agree, there are issues but the support from Asus on this forums is great.
Srsly? Do you have like Stockholm-Syndrome?
Asus threw an unfinishied product on the market.
They can't fix the SN issue in 3 days? Well, I didn't have such issues with my 4 other android devices. Maybe the should have been testing it.
Of course it is embarassing for Asus, but this is clearly not our fault. We fulfilled our part with odering and paying for a tablet. Rest is up to them.
While I agree that a free TF700 or such things would be impossible, the GPS problem is clearly a sign there has be no/not enough testing.
All the problems you are stating would have been showing due to Asus product testing, again. This is completely THEIR fault and they have to deal with it now.
You think we need to stop reporting errors to make the prime look better and they can sell more?
Dude, seriously. Do you buy a brand new car and when you have issues, you just shut up so the store can sell some more?
I'd really love to love my Prime, but with all those obvious mistakes Asus made, I can't.
The problem with what you are doing is: If you support Asus now, other companies will see it's ok to sell faulty products, and the next generation of tablets could have big issues as well.
You need to say what's wrong for anybody to hear. Or would you like to buy a product and then find out later that it's full of bugs? But nobody tould you because it wouldn't be nice for the company?
Do you think Asus will decrease support if less people are bying it?
Again, this wouldn't be nice, but it's completely in the hands of Asus.
It's a big company and they shouldn't have trouble emplyoing a few guys for support. If not, the save money on the wrong thing. Don't make (Non-)Buyers responsible for this.
No matter what other companies do, bringing an untested product to the market is not acceptable and that is the feedback Asus is getting now.
And no, you don't have to expect those "kind of problems".
When I buy a 600€-Tablet, I expect a full working one, and not in 3 months but NOW. I didn't have problems with my Optimus 2x or Iconia A500.
It's a big difference wether the company is fixing issues or improves the quality with updates.
And another point on Asus working with the community: It's nice they are on XDA, but... I remember there was...is... a locked and encrypted bootloader?
Yeah, right. Asus completely locked the Prime and only promised to make an unlock tool after giant social network ****storms.
Is this "working" with the community? Why didn't they look at HTC and provided an unlock tool from the beginning? Asus is only giving in because they are afraid of more bad attention. And that seems to be the only way for the community to be heard.
Just my 2c.

I think peoples persistence on forums have forced ASUS to look harder at the problem but never the less they are doing something and its a real credit to them that Gary Key is active on our forums now. I think in this modern age ASUS have took a brave step and one that they should be praised for.
We are all upset about the problems but we need to give ASUS fair time to address them. We have all had a rant but now its time to work with ASUS and give them as much information as possible, this is the only way we all get what we want, loyal happy customers and a fantastic product with new and exciting products on the horizon.
Cut them a bit of slack.
Dear Diamondback,
Damage to ASUS with those hate campaigns? I am sorry, but I am not going to speak well of a company that releases devices with as many problems that I have paid for. If I end up buying a broken device, I will be disappointed. They did not let these devices through proper quality control and we are suffering from it.
Serial number issue should have never happened. WiFi issue should have never happened. GPS should have never happened. These problems can be caught in quality control, but they didn't because they rushed the device to the market before holidays and did not test it long enough beforehand.
Yes, a lot of new devices have tech problems. Difference being that while I have been part of many tech launches as an early adopter in the past, I have never seen a launch that has this many critical problems and this amount of returned devices. Even I had to return a device because the keyboard just did not work and I've never had to do it before in my life.
As for damage to 'us', your points are irrelevant. Social media attacks are important, because they make ASUS more aware of these situations and react quicker. Let's be honest here, ASUS PR has been horrible throughout the Transformer Prime launch. It is only thanks to their customer support and engineers in this forum that we get some information out of ASUS.
I will not 'lie' and say that TF201 is a great device. It is really really good, but if you want to be sure and want a better all-round device then I will suggest people to get an iPad 2 and I will not tell my friends that this device does not have flaws just because this will increase ASUS sales and public image.
These social media attacks are important because ASUS will hopefully try to do better in the future, because a company cannot survive many of these clusterfraks in a row.
If ASUS will 'abandon the device' quicker because people are critical about it, then so be it. It will only make it clear to me not to buy ASUS products in the future, since it is exactly when there are problems, where support is needed. Not providing this will lose them even more customers in the future.
And trust me when I say this, Transformer Prime will never be a popular device in a way iPad, Galaxy Tab or Kindle Fire are popular. It will sell more than the original Transformer, but it will be very little known outside tech circles. Most of my friends don't even know that there is such a thing as TF101, let alone TF201.
How can ASUS change that? Not disappointing early adopters. It is the most crucial thing about products release, since early adopters are the most passionate customers. At the moment though many of us are with flawed screens, weak WiFi, non-existent GPS, devices without serial numbers and countless of other issues that will really hold us back from speaking well about the product we have paid a lot of money for.
ASUS can really change all that by letting devices actually go through quality control and testing. Many of the problems with Prime were detected in just the first days of use by us or the reviewers. ASUS can spare to delay the release by a week to provide additional testing for a fixed amount of devices.
Will they do it in the future? Who knows, unlikely. This device was rushed to the market to get as much sales as possible, ASUS did not care about us, the customers, they cared about their sales.
And this is why we have every right to be critical of ASUS. I hope they will do better in the future.

You both are not getting my point. Instead of going to the media you should report your errors to ASUS.
No matter how incompetent their customer support is on the phone, the errors will reach the developers anyway.
Nobody told you to praise the Prime. I just said that overpainting the issue won't help anyone. Not even you.
ASUS will fix the software problems. And the GPS issue got kinda resolved too. If you are not happy with it, return it.
I am pretty sure there will be other countries than UK and Taiwan with this move.
And yes you can't fix software errors in that scale in 3 days. Just deal with it. That's how software development works.
Oh and I hope that "Dead Diamondback" was a typo.... Otherwise, get off here troll
You haven't mentioned the dock issues lots of us are getting. My dock keyboard only works about 20% of the time I connect it. There is at least 30 or 40 users on here with the same issue, and about double that on the transformerforums site. This may not be a lot but I'm sure a lot of US owners don't own the dock where as is Europe you have to buy it as standard. ASUS support haven't been overly helpful - wait for the ICS upgrade and try a wipe - done that and it still doesn't work - no further update from ASUS. I'm having to send my tablet and dock back and hope the next one works fine - any issues with the new one and I'll be getting a refund.

GDI read the ****ing OP's first post. He did not ask you to kiss Asus' feet. He did not ask you to say false POSITIVE things about the Prime. He did not tell you to disregard Asus' mistakes. He simply asked you to vent your frustration and give your CONSTRUCTIVE feedback to the appropriate recipient: ASUS.
BTW you have my thanks OP.

Hm, seems I missed that. My german dock works perfectly. What's the issue exactly?
But still, ASUS is a big company, they can't just find, fix, test, and make an announcement in 3 days...
It reminds me of the launch of the HTC Desire HD, Back then it seemed as though the first couple of batches that made it into customers hands had not been properly tested and manufacturing QC was absolutely terrible.
GPS issues were rife, cases didn't fit together properly, screens were loose with dust underneath them. Then of course there was the screen bleed, stuck pixels and countless other problems.
I remember it well as I was one of the first people on this forum to receive my DHD and I spent countless hours sitting watching IRC channels for root to be achieved.
Now then after that short history lesson, here is the point of my story. There was a lot of complaining about these issues here on the forum, but what most people did was either accept the fact that this was an early batch and realised that as an early adopter these things are to be expected, or they sent them back. End of story.
There was no smeer campaign, nothing. Just people being adult about the situation and that's that.
Thanks for listening.

Same here, I think I got one of the first good batches
Nobody started a big ****storm back then and everything is fine today. The Desire HD is still a very good device and it was one of the top sold devices from HTC.
HTC sorted out all problems.
Agree
I actually agree with everything you said diamondback.
I personally love my prime, but i have a couple of issues here and there. Nothing that wont get fixed in the long run. I have a moan here and there, But i still show my support to a brilliant device.
And another thing i have never seen is a compnay actually showing their dedication to fixing the problems like asus. For god sake people they actually have a rep on here talking to people and providing inside information that actually could help. And again in garys posts people are attacking them there.
I really those people who are attacking asus shoulld either:
1. Suck it up and shut up and wait for a fix
2. Sell there device or take it back for a refund and shut up about it.
I know its not the best path, but you have to give a company some time for actually fix these issues. It doesnt happen over night, they ar'nt robots!
Rant over

its funny because i have a DHD, i got one of the bad batches and still using it this day. Although HTC's repair team didnt do anything when i sent it back in. 3 days before my warrenty ran out. But that was a GPS issue for me. And im not really that bothered about it to be fair.
I personally love my phone, ive modded it so many times now ive lost count.
Just remember...Man with hand in pocket feel cocky all day
But aren't we pushing for double-standards here?
Because it would be a ****storm all around if Apple releases a product that has even a single critical flaw. Such as iPhone 4 antennagate. People pay a lot for Apple for quality, they don't expect such problems and Apple has very, very few issues like that with their product launches.
On the other hand we have ASUS who releases a product that has GPS that cannot be used, has weak WiFi range (+ broken WiFi on early US units), weak quality control on screen, keyboard and software issues with crashes and inability to update. Transformer Prime has more early adoption issues than iPhone's and iPad's have had in total.
Apple has set the standard, so when we end up paying a lot of money and face this many problems, being publicly critical about it makes sense. Sure you could say that ASUS is small compared to Apple, but if they want to compete with Apple they simply have to do better. If they release a device that is as flawed, it is not just bad for customers, but Android in general. I remember giving excuses to people who used my HTC Desire back in the day that had a multitouch screen that was not multitouch and it was obvious that it is a lesser device. I will feel just as bad when someone tries to use GPS on my Prime and is confused that it doesn't work and so on, because they -expect- the device to function.
Pat on the back and 'better next time' just doesn't cut it, since many of us will be using the device for more than a year. This is not a startup world, ASUS has been in the business for years, they are ambitious with their claims of having created the best tablet, if they cannot live up to it, they deserve the criticism.
They are a big boy and will hopefully do better next time. Market demands it. Otherwise someone else will simply create better devices and wins over the customers that ASUS has. ASUS is unique in that it offers an innovative keyboard dock with Prime, if it becomes popular then competition will increase and I'll gladly jump ship to manufacturer that has a better history with product launches.
Thank you OP for IMHO a needed and well thought out post.
I completely agree with OP post. People that are unsatisfied can easily return device and move on. But no, instead they love to hang around a nag like women with each other. I can tell most polls made here in thisbsection was made to make the Prime look bad. But guess what, it backfired. Most, if not all polls here show in favor of the Prime in a positive light. Don't believe me, just take a look. Of all the people that voted in them, its always 77-85% or more people that are happy with devices, or defect free or etc...
Although the smear campaigns might hurt a little, the ball is already rolling. Even the negative people not going to be able to stop developement. We already have a good number of developers doing alot of great things without bootloader unlocked yet. We have other major developers just waiting to hit the ground running once unlocking tool is available. Its almost surreal sometimes reading the issues some people have. As from 12/22 my device has worked great everyday and have really been enjoying it. Its really sad how some people try to nitpick every single little thing.
If you are unsatisfied with device, do like moderator Jerdog said. Which was get rid of device then, whine somewhere else, AND GO AWAY! Developers not going to want to hear your sob stories. Just imagine once custom roms start being made. Are those same people going to whine all the time after an early build is built n has some issues to be fixed?
Another thing also, some people are plain stupid. They smear n attack Asus for the Prime yet they talk of getting the new A-700. Dumb move. This new device hasn't even been proven tl be better then the Prime and won't be out for 4-5 months at the earliest. People just assume its better because it has a plastic strip across the back. Nothing can be assumed. This hasn't been thouroughly tested or reviewed by major tech sites to say its better. Which a mini test of sorts showed it wasn't, as far as wireless goes. To me. Asus is a great company because I received a great product. If people are to stupid to just return device instead of crying up here online, then that's on them. As they clearly have seen the people that love their devices way outnumber those who don't. sand ususally its the same people always complaining. That's why I've stopped trying to combat them in the threads really. I just report the post or thread, if its unreasonable. This has been working as several complaining threads already have been shut down. Even moderator tired of all the whining.
Just carry your a$$ somewhere else if you don't like your device. Plain n simple!

I've had NONE of the issues you mentioned. The only thing I can't confirm that works 100% is the GPS since I did not buy this tablet to use as a primary GPS unit! I have a phone that does that and is more PORTABLE since it fits in my pants pocket. Last I tried using the GPS, it locked on my exact location in less than a minute. But really, I didn't really care, I only tested it because of all the damn *****ing on this forum.
So yes, I am a proud owner of a Prime with a "functioning" GPS, STANDARD wifi range, a VIVID screen, operational keyboard dock, no software issues, and updated with ICS.
First, OP, this isn’t just about Asus. What you’re saying in your post is that to protect the image and viability of a product (any product), people should suck up what they’re handed and deal with problems quietly in a way that benefits the manufacturer. That way, the product’s image will be protected. That’s great for current owners looking to reinforce their purchase and to grow the user base, but what about people that haven’t yet purchased the product? Hide defects and issues from them so they can figure it out themselves? If Acer hoses the A700 launch, would you give the same advice to their board? This goes against the principles of XDA.
Back to the Prime. Many of the issues discussed here caused people to say the Prime wasn’t right for them and either returned them or passed. Would you deprive them of that knowledge beforehand to further your personal agenda? Did you sign the “unlock the bootloader” petition? If so, then you’re being somewhat hypocritical.
Manufacturers need to be held accountable for their decisions. In Asus’ case, the choice of a metal back cover, claiming “GPS” when there wasn’t, racing the Prime to market with inadequate testing, and the random QC issues were all self-inflicted. Following your guidance, if this was kept quiet and didn’t impact sales, what incentive would they have going forward to sweat the details and deliver high quality products starting with unit number one?
Any “damage done to the Prime” was done in meeting rooms in Taiwan long before anyone here had a Prime in their hands. And h/w and s/w aside, hopefully Asus learned from this that customers aren’t sheep and willing to accept what they’re given and in the future will provide more frequent, accurate, and consistent communication before and after they launch a product. It’s terrific that after the damage was done Gary Key’s been proactive in cleaning up the mess and Asus offered a six-month warranty extension. Let’s give them an “A” for that. They get an “F” for how they managed the launch, communication, some of their design choices, and initial QC. So, at best, they’ve earned a “C.” If they’re a learning organization, let’s see what they do with the TF700. If it’s a repeat of the Prime, then God help them. And if the TF700 is everything the Prime should have been, that’s what’s going to cause the problems you outlined to happen, not the *****ing.
My friends that bought (and returned) Prime’s are pissed. Anyone trying to get one before the holidays went through flaming hoops and invested a lot of time and energy that they won’t get back via a “refund.” They’ll never purchase an Asus product again and are telling everyone they know about their experience. So even if everyone on XDA follows your advice, the damage will continue long after the postings stop. And it should because that’s what keeps manufacturers in check.

Cornerstone on the prime yet?

Been using the TF101 since it first came out. Been using cornerstone on CM9 for a couple weeks as my daily driver. Stable as hell despite what people are saying about it. Hasn't crashed once on me. Wifi connects super fast going from network to network. Apps working just fine.
Been wanting to upgrade to the prime. Now that I've tasted cornerstone, I can't imagine ever going back to normal android.
Please don't kill me. I've been searching around but can't seem to find any info for my question.
Has any dev put cornerstone on a rom for the prime yet? This is a deal breaker for me. I won't get a prime until I know for sure I can get cornerstone on it.
Been asked 124567889 times.... Why opening a new thread for those kind of demands?
And if you didn't found an answer, why not considering that... there is no answer?
Better ask to cm9 devs, but the golden rule is NO ETA ASKING!

You have some serious reading comprehension issue here. At no point did I even hint at asking for an ETA or demand for cornerstone. Having been a dev myself...
I did a search. Couldn't find it. This is a question forum. Thought I'd ask since I haven't been keeping up with prime stuff. A simple no would have been fine. No need to demonstrate your lack of English comprehension skills.
All I'm asking if anyone has put cornerstone into a rom for the prime yet. If no, then fine. They can take their time. If it will never come to be, then so be it. Again, no need to show us how terrible you are at the English language. Capice?

Wow, just wow.
Your response reminds me of those responses I get from tech support personnel that are sitting in India. They just give you canned responses and after a while you start getting a feeling they're reading a script instead of talking to you.
As I've said before. I've been using cornerstone on the TF101 for over 2 weeks now. No crash at all. No compatibility issue. Very stable. Wifi connects super fast. Amazing battery life.
My question was specifically pertaining to the TF201. And then you tried to make a come back with a quote about cornerstone in a general sense among android devices.
If you're going to make a come back, try to do better than that.
I don't care if you're from france. Try to brush up on your English comprehension before you start giving smart-ass answers.
But in short, I get it. The answer is no, there's no cornerstone on the TF201 yet. I may never ever see it on the TF201. And that's fine. The TF101 serves my purpose for now.
Added by edit.
I have a friend from France. He makes fun of my Asian accent terrible driving skills and I make fun of his barely understandable French accent. But we're very close. You and I are not that close yet.

OPT - Often Posted Threads.... Sigh read this first please

Ok after a dozen of the same posts, complaints, observations posted over the last little while hopefully people will read this and stop posting new (read useless) threads.
HALP! my browser / launcher / whatever isnt as fast as my phone!
Yes, different devices, different reactions. The same way two different cars may react differently the stock browser on the prime and on your nexus s, htc, samsung, etc. will react differently.
It is no secret that the stock browser and stock launcher can be laggy at times. If you dont like it try a different launcher and different browser.
To do a proper comparison between two different devices you should load the same launcher and same browser on both devices. Please stop and think before posting "my phone is faster than this %$#@ prime" threads, do proper tests, know that we know the launcher and browser are slow, and use one of the suggested solutions.
OMFG! Da prime is discontinued!
At least three threads i have been in TODAY have people speculating the prime is discontinued. "An asus employee told me, my store stopped recieving stock, my local store has them on clearance"
As of this date there has been no official word from Asus reguarding the status of the prime. Please do not post threads about this unless there is something official, or you have proof.
Actually, know what? please just dont post these kinds of threads. Speculation never got anyone anywhere.
WTF! My GPS / / Wifi works / doesnt work
Ok, we pretty much all know at this point the wifi and gps are crap on the prime. Some people have better than others, some people find weird solutions.
Im personally convinced there are several plecibo fixes (you THINK they work because you WANT them to work). There is yet to be found a fix that works for everyone, aside from having wires hanging out of the prime. Lots of threads about this, read the "opened my prime" thread (all 100+ pages of it) lots of good info.
I WANT ROOT, WHY CANT I HAS ROOT! .21 issues...
Ok, seriously? Few things i gotta clear up...
Just because its easy to root ONE android device does not mean its easy to root ALL android devices. Also consider we HAD root before .21 which was a pretty good effort from the devs. Asus patched the hole used to root, now we need to find another way. Complaining will not get us root faster. Yes, we all know you want to root your prime, just give devs time to figure it out.
CAN I HAS UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER AND KEEP MY WARRENTY TOO?
No. just no.
The reason its easier with samsung devices is because samsung does not lock their bootloaders and actually gives us the tools to flash new kernls / roms to our phones. Asus does not do this, in fact they try to make it hard on us. The only way to unlock at this point is to send your serial to asus, they do some fun math with it, and send you an unlock code. Deal with it, use the unlock asus gave us or dont unlock at all.
HOW DOES I GET GPS DONGLE?
The GPS dongle was prematurely leaked. It will be officially announced when its ready, not a moment before.
Basically, when its ready you can register your serial nubmer with asus, they will send you a GPS attachment (fixes to the dock connector on the prime), should be available in the next week or so, stay tuned. VIP.asus.com, should be announced April 16 (ish), expect a month to have it ship once they have your info. Should be free for every prime owner.
OH LOOK! SHINY PRIME SUCKS/ROCKS COMPARED TO ______
For serious? Because there are not enough comparison threads already (use the search, its what its there for) you had to make another? If we want comparisons we can easially search youtube, there are literally dozens of em. Sure its nice to know how this device stacks up against another but there has got to be a thread you can post in already, no need to make another one. (Also, warning, you may get banned, just sayin)
Thanks for taking the time to read this, may your future posts be constructive and benefit the community!
You might want to add the stupid comparison threads although those have all been b& recently.

I find this to be a useless thread. Can we get it deleted too?

It wouldn't be so bad if there was one of each of them but as soon as one pops up 15 more pop up. For a certain period of time I only went into the dev section because it was a huge flame war about prime vs iPad...

Thanks this eliminated 1/2 the threads on xda haha

I'm confused, my gps sucks, wifi stinks, I want my gps dongle, my Prime is laggy compared to my HTC Aria and my Prime kicks the new iPads ass.
Should I go ahead and make separate posts for each problem?
Oh ya, here's my home screen.
Thanks for the thread .
There should be like an Android quiz before you are able to post (newbs can still register and read) new questions.
Kinda like a Sgt's exam for cops or something similar.
Something not too hard but will require some sort of experience and/or common sense with regards to Android devices.
Updated to include comparison threads.
Lol Nefariouss sorry you think its useless, i was hoping that people might read this thread and know not to post the same types of threads we see pretty much on a daily basis here. If you do not tire of the same quesitons being asked or the same statments being posted every day you are much more patient than I, and I commend you. Well done!
scataldo721 ya, sad isnt it? however it would be a much better place donchya think?
theandies: Lol, thanks for the chuckle.
admartian: I agree, however then we wouldnt have half the posts on the forum, there would be a lot less spamming and flaming, people might treat each other with respect, use the search button, and post relitive topics!..... we cant have that now can we

Haha, thanks for the laugh! that would be funny stuff.
Dam.. people just need to read more..
I don't think I ever created a thread and Ive learned so much from xda.. just from reading and searching.

[project] (updated120619) setup and testing EEEpadTF201 wip (input appreciated)

OP) updated 120619.Post 5) updated 120617. Any help you can contribute is highly welcome. I will keep you updated while working on it and give access for everyone "as is".
1v02.0) Premiss:
1.1.v01.0) Intent of this thread:
- to create a common basis and "reckognized" guideline for a standardised
Code:
setup from scratch of the Asus TF201 for everybody. So user utilising this thread as a tool either (hopefully) enjoy their device afterwards and never come back here, or they are able to compare results and actions of their tf201 on referencing ground and nail its presumable weak spot
- to develop some testing scenarios and simple test environments for home, on the road and wherever for reproducable results.
- with the aim to make experience vary less and gain substantial test-results throughout the community
- to give every member of XDA the possibility to contribute scientific information to the highly qualified and overworked Asus staff
- to laugh about your jokes and be happy when I go to bed a little later than my beloved ones
- there could be other useful or nice sideeffects out of the initial blast and future on topic fussing as some intelligent members already have proven in this thread.
1.2.v01.0) Backgroundinformation
Due to the preliminary confusion caused by my intuitive and snappy approach and some second thoughts I acknowledge my noobness and apologize to everybody psychologicaly involved in it. I wanted to make this going quickly but then I am not a very quick thinker, I guess. So you see my dilemma. I see we are already on track and comments until today made me wonder if I should get rid or change my FAQ and posts archive. I figure my system limits it naturally.
The thread might get reorganised during times as I try to keep up with you guys who cannot resist posting. Great it probably will be easier than I thought.
But since also my days end regularly I just hope the hype ends. Any good findings and pinpointing bull, that's cool gals and will lead eventually to something usable.
Remind you: the quicker you post, the more I fall behind and struggle with ideas and facts. So I'd rather have you pm me.
But I surely do appreciate your criticism, corrections of facts or corrections of my hillbilly english or any comment. I want this a real fun tool as I plan to spend some time with it. Obviously there will be a lot of noobness and room for misunderstandings and -interpretions. I am looking forward to the discussion and every single post. Since I am used to fall behind.
- My (If) call for help or feedback will be on top of this post.
- The elementary information starts in post #2
- Hot spot is post #3
- Threadhistory in post #4
- My (If) feedback on your feedback is in post #5.
- My status is in post #6
1.3.v02.1) Note:
As people seem to be shy and feel uncomfortable when explicitly asked to pm and not to post I apologise and hope many replies will put that guide together quickly. Personally I still prefer pms especially if you want me to fled off, I have stolen your ideas or you don't like the color of my hair: Please, pm me. If you don't like my language, well I am no native but trying to be substantial and open for accurate corrections. I leave post #6 which shows my preferences, as a booby-trap for trolls and whinners. Of course you can post in my thread but only on topic Read post #6 and be warned. Any comment on post #6 exposes itself and saves me a lot of time. Let's see if this works how I figured it out vaguely.
P.S.
And you know all this stuff about reliabilty. Devices vary, so no guarantee yours doesn't blow up. If it breaks, sorry it happens. Mine's still alive and as quick as it can run on the presumably wrong stock code. Let me cite antutu which scores around 13200 points on 1.28. Around 1500 Points more than the previous build. By no means I will say this is the only way of checking, testing and setting up your tf201 or that I am always right. But I am convinced if you let me put my hand on the flamed devices I would fix most of the so called software-flaws and bugs people are experiencing. Software is x'n'o's and works potentionally forever if it works. It will do the same on any similar sister hardware. If you change or add something within this software or add another software, there will be hundreds of ways the original software can brake. Unfortunately only a few to get back to normal.
So read my contribution to the thread: If you are stuck with your problem: Go for that pinhole next to the microsd-card. It works wonders. Turn off the device by pushing the pin for 30 seconds and then wait for the boot. Do a reboot, maybe two and you hopefully be better. To be sure: start from scratch following this thread when it's here. Everything mentioned in my posts is based on my personal experience with the tf201 and other devices, the huge amount of information in xda or elsewhere and input from real cracks and specialists which hopefully join in.
Maybe I ridicule myself, so be it. I give it a go and guess that's fine with the mods too since this will be a joyride for them too!
2) Prerequisits:
- Electricity
- Transformer Prime TF201, stock rom
- Asus ac-connector
- Asus usb-cable
3) Setup (draft):
Whenever you start playing with a new tf201 and a new softwarerelease or rom:
Let the device start up, and first of all make sure you do a reset. By pushing a pin into the pinhole next to the microsd-card slot for 30 seconds you will get rid of old os-intern data debunked all over your device without loosing any of your downloaded progs or added data.
- After this you get a clean start and all os specific values and parameters are deleted. The clean os now is freshly pushing required data to the different services and applications in the appropriate manner it requires it.
- Now make sure you let your device reboot twice and start every loaded application once to set it up as requested.
- Reboot one more time. The tf201 is now ready to work/ play/ cuddle.
(This is how it should be. Experience varys as tf201 do).

Update 120618
1) Premiss:
After just having jumped on the android train and coming from constructing buildings I see that our forum is missing some solid ground.
So I figure I'll have to start working on it. [Update]To keep the information compact I have posted several posts in a row. The thread might get reorganised in time.[/Update]
Anyone who is interested in something hopefully useful can subscribe to this thread and send me a pm to let me know that they did, I would appreciate such info.
If I get no pms I won't know someone cares and I will just go my pace (which I will do anyway).

FIRST POST! W00T!!
Sorry, couldn't resist
My understanding was this is a forum i.e. somewhere where people discussed things. How does it work if someone disagrees with what you say? PM you and you will take it under consideration?
What you are trying to achieve may be useful. However, if you want to keep it limited to your input only why don't you start a blog and post a link?

I agree with the "First Poster" First you come in and insult the forum saying it is "missing solid ground", then grab a bunch of space to "go at your own pace"?
You created a thread for your "Todo" list? And started it up without contributing anything to the forum, and tell us we can't post to the thread, that it's a soapbox for you and only you? Seriously, why DON'T you start a blog on the Transformer Prime (to go with the 800 others out there) and DON'T post a link. I could understand if you had some great info to put up, and wanted to add to it later, but this is plain useless. Now please delete my post.
There is LOTS of information regarding "Setup and Testing" of TF101, going back over 6 months. Did you try seraching the forum, or is it you are not interested in what anyone else has to say, but rather just what YOU plan to post... later... when you get around to it - (the suspense is killing people everywhere.) in a General Info Forum... where you have yet to post anything remotely useful...
hmmm.

i've seen various threads being deleted because they were placeholders for stuff that's upcoming/under construction which is against the xda policy .....
So yes , i agree, gogo DiamondBack
i will give OP, benefit of doubt. in good spirit, Lets checkout what he wants to share...
but why create a thread when your not ready with material to share... ? you can create a thread tomorrow/day after/whenever ur ready with some substance.

While I like your idea, two things that you should know/correct:
-You dont need to hold the soft reset pinole for 30 seconds, once it's push it does the same thing.
-Pushing the pinhole resets the way Prime, however, this fresh boot will only last for a short period of time. So, any apps that were giving you isses before, will give you the SMAME issue again. This has been discussed already and proven. The I/O schedule is also not fixed by simply pushing the pinhole, it's just "started over"
You should copy confirmed working info from throughout the avaialble threads if you are trying to help people, tht will be more benificial for "new owners. The Prime's main issue seems to stem from the I/O scheduler, plus a few incompatible apps, so people observe which apps causes issues and remove them. Also, the next update "should" fix the I/O issue by giving priority to the foreground running applictions.
The Pin-hole in our Primes doesn't get rid of any OS Data, it is just a way to reset the Prime in a hardware-fashion since we cant remove the battery. If the OS completely freezed a software reset wont work, and since we have no way of remove the battery a solution had to be implemented
The Cold Boot option in the boot menu is pretty much just like turning the Prime off and then turning it on again. So far I'm not ware of a way to clear all caches with a Stock Prime.
If you are unsure, turn off the Prime, and measure the time it takes to boot when using pin hole option, cold boot option and normal. If any cache would be deleted it would take twice the time, since it would be building all the Dalvik/Cache files again. As far as I know, it always takes the same time to boot up, doesnt matter which option you choose.

I am one who always tries to respect the rules on xda, but the number of useless threads in the transformer prime section is starting to make finding useful information nearly impossible and giving me this terrible urge to start flaming people! I'm still resisting the urge so I will not be flaming here, nor sending you a pm but will pm the mods to try to get a reduction in this sort of rubbish posting....
Thanks for your wonderful tip here, i had really never realised I needed those three things together at the same time, but I don't think I'll be clicking the thanks button just yet....

So can someone explain me what the hell this thread is?
It's a placeholder for upcoming information of unknown nature?
And then you say that you don't want any posts here... But why? This is a forum, so it's made to discuss stuff. You might got the idea from the Asus sticky I made, but that had a good reason and I really don't see such a reason here.
Can someone please enlighten me if I miss something substantial?

the responses in this thread makes me laugh. maybe this thread was made to lighten things up since it has taken a comedic approach. Even Diamondback is stumped.
