I have had to restore my APNs with a app from the android market after any rom flash. Ill be able to make calls text only thing is no mobile data with G.C.I. out here in Alaska. I tried a few of these ICS roms and I try to use the APN backup and restore app but the message it gives is that android 4.0 does not allow for APNs to be deleted or restored.

A dev tried making me a flashable zip using my APN.xml but it didn't work

Apn Fix?

Hey guys, could not really find what I was looking for
After you are running a rom, and obviously need to get mms working, what is the proper steps to running a apn fix? I see in the aloysius post someone posted the apn from Ivans, and was curious how to run it on the rom already in progress?
Thanks
There's a program called "apn backup and restore" that will let you restore the correct apn file.
Just download the apn file from that thread to your sd card, install that app, and restore the correct file.

This update was intended for my ZenEXP-Eris build, but it should work on most, if not all ROMs here as well.
Do a nandroid backup before installing in case it doesn't work, then flash through recovery: LINK
thanks guys..works great!
I have been using this app for a while now and never had an issue restoring after a restore. I am using the Fresh 2.1.1 Rom and flashed Ivan's 1.0 Rom and sucessfuly backed up the apn when I restored and try to restore the Apn I keept getting an error code 8 can't write to a read only database. I haven't done anything different from the norm. Anyone have an idea or know who I should be contacting?

Are you not able to send or receive mms messages? I am also running fresh 2.1.1 and I thought I could send/receive them.
I can send but I don't get them Either I was trying to do the APN flash to fix it. Our Rom isn't verizon based so the network acts funny on text messages. The work around was to flash Ivan's rom after you make a nandroid backup of your Fresh Rom install then dl APN Backup & Restore and then back up the APN of Ivan's rom to the SD card. And then restore the Fresh 2.1.1 and dl the APN app again but restore the .xml from the SD card to fix the mode of connection to start recieving mms/sms and voicemail alerts. If you hadn't changed the prl if it would help you this is the time to do it,Download the Alltel_Verizon Hybrid.prl file, enter ##778 in the dialer hold call for a few seconds let go then choose edit mode and for password 6 zeros. Select prl, then update prl, the keyboard shows up first but just hit the back button onec and you will see the prl you downloaded to the root of the SD card and then choose and say ok, then hit menu and commit changes. After a short bit a message stating the phone needs to reboot and vola! you have add your phone to the extra Alltel towers in your area. AFTER DOING THIS DO NOT *228 and let the automated PRL service run, this will remove the Alltel Hybrid PRL and you will have to redo the Ivan flash method. Most roms are not developed with the epsk.apk(think thats the name) which is invoked with the ##778 send. This is optional because for some it is a hit or miss of a fix. For some it clears up areas that they may have not gotten signal and reduces it in already covered areas.
Realize this is a long answer to your simple question but just wanted to clear up for others that may not know.

[Q] APN Backup/Restore on ICS

Why does every new android release have to take away freedom and feel less and less 'open'?
In any case, I just flashed the experimental CM9 and I was greeted with an inability to restore my APNs from my usual app (APN Backup & Restore from Ritesh Sahu) because apps are no longer allowed to modify APN files on 4.0.
I would like to know what the simplest way to backup and restore my APNs is in this situation. Is there some simple way to create a flashable ZIP or something similar to restore them with?
I usually don't backup and restore my APNs just hit reset to default and they are restored ....... i believe you've tried that if not give it a shot
Yeah I've tried that, I need to backup and restore because I'm on a relatively small Canadian carrier (sasktel).

If you have a Nandroid backup you could restore that, then write down your APN and save it some where.

Exactly Aaron. Why people don't write these things down before they go messing around with things is beyond me

Well I have only one APN in the settings and I did copy it, works fine and gets data. But when I back up using that app it says it backs up 2000 something APNs and my carrier on my phone actually shows up upon restore, unlike now when it's just 6 digits.

I would also like to restore my APN's instead of always typing them in when changing Roms.
How can I create a script, overwrite a sys-file or elselike to prevent me from reytyping apn's, when they aren't implemtented in let's say a custom rom ?
me too any ideas please
Correct CSC for your network is all that should be required .
Copy and paste to new custom roms .

You can use HiApn on market to restore your apn that you backed up from another rom.
However for it to work on ICS you need to make it a system app. You can do so in TiBu options.
Works for me no problem.
The app can also set some automatic ones based on your carrier which worked for me but looked a little different than the ones on my other phones.

A simple App to backup and restore APNs (Settings to connect to the internet with the mobile connection). The backup is stored in the /sdcard/APNBackupRestore folder.
NOTE: Starting with Android 4.0/ICS, 3rd Party apps don't have access to write APN settings, hence this app no longer works for restoring APN backups. Some users have reported that it can be used on ICS if its set to run as a System app (using Titanium for example)

Help a noob

So I'm new with the galaxy s2 I had a Xperia play and it was more simple but with this device I had some questions so if you can help me I will appreciate that
I had my games sd data in my external sd card but I don't want to move all the files to the phone to play them, so how I access the game with the sd data in the external sd card?
What does lpm and lpg means?
How do I flash a new Rom and kernel? Only with cwm right?
I'm from Costa Rica if I use a Rom that uses another apn settings how can I use the mobile data of my country?
I have a backup with titanium backup of all the apps that I had on my xplay is there a way of restore all those apps to this new phone?
What is the function of the flash counter? What would happen if it gets very high number?
Thanks for your support

well i dunno the answers to all the questions..but here they go..
flashing ron and kernel can be done through cwm..i find it the easiest way..another way is using odin
flash counter will only be increased if u use odin..it is not affected by CWM
LPG,lpm etc. are just different samsung stock rom versions like xwlp7,xwlpd etc.
u can easily choose your apn settings as they were in the rom u have installed...i have had no problems with apn settings in samsung based custom roms..dunno about the aosp/aokp roms..However, if u a flash a rom without wipe..your settings should be as it is..the only difference you could have is that your modem might change and you might get low speeds with 2g/3g etc.. But in that case, you can flash your original modem version
about titanium backup..just copy the files in the titanium bakup folder and restore them..But i am not so sure whether it will work for different devices..you can easily find it out by doing a google search
Thanks

Yes, you can. The APN settings are retrieved from your SIM, if not, you can ask them from your carrier.

The flash counter was introduced by Samsung in this device to monitor whether you had rooted your device or not, and whether you had flashed stuff or not. You already should know rooting voids the warranty of your device, each time you flash (except for flashing a stock Samsung ROM), via Odin only though, your flash counter is raised by one. There is no limit up to which it goes. This is how Samsung monitors it. However, since they say nothing is impossible, there IS a way to reset that counter, and a simple app called Triangle Away has been developed by Chainfire to reset it, along with removing the yellow triangle that comes up while booting the phone after flashing anything via Odin.

[Q] Forgot to Back Up Before Installing Custom Rom

Hi to everyone
Yesterday i have installed a custom rom for the first time(pacman rom)But before installing i forgot to backup applications.
Now files belong the applications still exist and occupy space.Since I will install most of those applications already, is there any easy way to reinstall them automatically?Or which files should i delete to get rid of those unnecessery files?
First thing you need is efs Bk up. Have you done this? Titanium Bk up for backing up apps is best app out there. What files are you taking about. Screen shot would help. If its app files when you re add apps it shouldn't make double copys of the files so makes me think there not app files. Screen shot pls

Use SD maid app to delete unnecessary files (corpses)
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
If the OS version for your custom rom is different to the stock firmware you were on (gb, ics, jb) you need to get rid of those (data) files anyway. If you use them with apps in a different os version it *could* cause instability and app force closures......
Sent from my rooted, de bloated, stock JB powered S2 via PhilZ kernel and XDA developers app
First I will try SD maid, if it doesn't work I will delete them one by one
Just delete and reinstall the apps you want. Sorry about time of reply
Just flash a rom wipe/nuke script via recovery.
Did you Bk up your efs folder? Pacman doesn't auto Bk it up. Use hc ktool to do this. Worry about this folder alot. Lose this and you will have lots of problems. Like no calls texs or data.
Issue
i just installed a rom and forgot to back up the stock rom completly and i want to go back. how would i do this? My phone is the samsung galaxy s3 thru straight talk (sprint towers)
You'd post in the correct forum for starters. This is I9100/SGS2 Q&A.
SD maid and clean master are necessities for all phones IMO..

How to Backup EFS for SCH-I605?

Before messing around any more and getting myself in trouble I thought it would be good to backup the EFS.
The only thing is I only see references on backing it up for the N7000/7001. Will the EFS Pro Backup or Samsung EFS Backup programs work for the Verizon version?
Thanks

Sorry, probably should have given you more information.
Anyways I'm new to the Note 2 and bought a used one that was already updated to 4.3 and therefore can't install TWRP onto it.
I did already get it rooted and figured out how to get into the hidden menus. So before messing with those, which from reading the settings in the hidden menus are stored in the EFS. So I wanted to make a backup in case as from what I am reading that EFS is where everything specific to your IMEI and such is stored, so you really don't want to mess it up.

Ah..ok well my suggestion to you is don't mess with them.. There is safe strap option now available..not sure if he has got restoring options working in TWRP but you might want to pop in on that thread and see..therfore you'll be able to back up and if you do change something you won't have to re flash via odin

Ya, mainly I just wanted the ability to turn on or off 4G service. If I am up in the mountains and know I won't have 4G service then I can turn it off to save battery life.
I did find the option under CDMA->COMMON->Band Pref->CDMA Only. To bad I have to restart to set it though as my previous phone the Droid RAZR Maxx could change it on the fly.
I did find one other good setting and that is to turn off WIFI sleep. I wondered why it kept disconnecting from my WIFI if I left it off for awhile. I use llama to turn off my pattern lock when connected to my home WIFI and I was wondering why it kept re-enabling on me at home. I truly hate that it is defaulted on most WIFI cards, even on a PC it generally is defaulted to be able to sleep.
Figured it out myself, but in case anyone else has my same situation of having a locked bootloader with 4.3 OTA with root access and want to backup all the important data, including EFS/RADIO/TOMBSTONES/ETC.
Then use the Tool EFS Professional from this thread: CLICK ME
I had to update my BusyBox to 1.22.1 as I tried both 1.20.2 and 1.21.1 (this was installed when root access was done). In the older versions it was failing at creating the archive at the end after copying the data.
