Ice Cream Sandwich and Honeycomb?
Honeycomb..I don't know if it'll work with ICS
You should add that to the OP because you know you'll get a million people saying it doesn't work. Just trying to save you some pain.
Lol okay I will..thanks
Are we not all on ICS by now? Who is still on HC? Maybe someone who just bought. And if they are, the moment they get ICS, this root is toast. This seems a little late to the party? SO.. people that use this in HC, if any, as soon as it is done get the app Voodoo OTA Root Keeper and backup and keep your root before you go to ICS IF you have time because as soon as someone opens their new tablet the ICS update will be waiting... so work fast.
I would change the title of this thread to include HC reference

I believe that right now most of Europe still has not received the update and are running HC. A friend of mine bought one from MediaMarkt in Nurnberg, Germany and say there are no updates available. So this tool is still completely viable.

Root will not allow you to keep HC. There is no way to keep HC. For those in Europe when ICS comes.... its coming & you will have to accept it so.... we have no unlocked bootloader.
BUT this is why I mention the Voodoo app as unless you use that this root will not stick when ICS comes so then they will just have to do an ICS root method.
This is why I think the title needs revamping.

Sure it will... I don't know why you would rather be on Honey Comb than Ice Cream Sandwich, but hey if that your preference then all you have to do is root & freeze the OTA update checker with TiBackup (don't know the exact name of the process off hand).

Yes you got me there. I didn't consider freezing the OTA update as who the hell would want to **** block future updates even if ICS has some glitches. And I assumed the poster meant "save HC" as in via flashing it as a ROM as opposed to freezing the update.

Hey umm just wanted to ask. Does any one know if anybody is working on a 2.3.4 root app?
I wouldn't recommend any app to root your phone. The root tutorial has all the info, and more, that you'll need right now.

I haven't seen anything about anyone developing and app((I assume u mean similar to gingerbreak)) for the root process.
There is a great new tutorial for rooting made by moon shadow if u need any info
I was hoping someone would be able to create a one click app also but haven't seen anyone doin it yet
Ya that's exactly the app I was thinking about. My computer is to slow so I was wondering if anyone was working on a app
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
It doesn't take s fast Computer. I have used a 10yr old computer running an early XP system and it only took like 15mins to root it
Ya I think I'm gonna try it out again. But it would be cool to have a one click app though
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
Was there a specific spot in process that seemed to hang for u or not work?
Might be able to work around it somehow.
And I agree. Something like gingerbreak would be awesome.
Tho u should be able to go to froyo and use gingerbreak.
then use root explorer and do the maintain rootexplorer across updates method.
There is a thread I did on how to do it in Dev forum. It came from p3droid over at rootzwiki.
I think my computer is fast enough, and it is nearly 4 years old (I built it in South Korea for $1,500, valued over $6,000 in the US).

All joking aside, Pete's root tools should not require much at all.
I was wondering if u would ever post a pic of it lol I remember u talking about it before. Nice setup man. U r pretty proud of it ain't ya lol. Looks sweet.
I am pretty proud of it until I walk into PC direct every now and then lol. I feel like I am due for an overhaul...
Also, you would think I would learn how to dev for Android being that I have a nice setup... but no, lol. I am contemplating starting when I get out of school for winter break though. I need a new hobby since I shutdown/sold all my websites, and cut ties with Wayne over at WJD Designs last year(Long story, we go way back to HS).
Petes one click root is just a standalone executable file so it shouldn't take too much computing power to handle it.
You just plug your phone in, open petes one click and click run. Hell you could even do it on a computer lab or library computer if it allowed flash drive access.

Within 2 hours of me having my dx2 I had already sbf'd to 2.3.4 and used petes one click root. It is very simple, I believe there are directions somewhere around here, I do agree though a one click root app would be nice, or is someone working on a pre rooted version of 2.3.4? I just came from the DX world and they have a rooted version of one of their last updates, not 100% sure if it's possible with the DX2 but hey something to consider. I am really contemplating starting to develop stuff for the dx2 but am currently busy with wedding stuff, buying a house, school, and finishing a motor swap in a friends camaro lol I like to stay busy apparently.

I'm sure your setup is awesome, I have no doubt about that however, at least going on the information in the post and the image, most of that $6,000 was spent on monitors and not the PC.
In addition, the monitor's have very little to do with the speed of your PC, so it's not really relevant to the topic of using Pete's One Click rooting app. Kudos to the setup though, not that I want to take away from it; I simply want to be sure to clear the air with that so that a newbie looking for advice does not see the image and think they need a datacenter style operation just to perform a simple task on their phone.
Pete's One Click rooting tool is very simple. Follow the instructions in the below guide and you'll be rooted in no time.

I really want to do the root, I just get nervous since it's my only phone. As far as how it would look, I'll post some pictures when I get home from work tonight. All I really have are some wallpapers/random pics and the Windows version of the Toonami font.

If you just want root there is very little if any risk. Simply download hasoon2000's toolkit and let it do all the work. It's a great tool it takes all the guess work out of unlocking the true potential of your phone.
I might just do that this week on a day off. What benefits would I be looking at? Once I get another phone on the side, I'll be more than ready to overclock and really push this thing. I just really want to learn more about what I can truly push Android to do. (Going to buy Raspberry Pi and/or ODROID-X soon too)

Are you looking for a Sense skin or a full out theme? If it is a Sense Skin you do not need root to apply it. Do you have the latest release of ICS with Sense 3.6?
If you do want a whole theme, and root let me know which ROM you decide on because I have to theme according to the ROM.

As of now, I have ICS 4.0.3, and Sense 3.6...I have never actually rooted a phone though, so 1. I don't know how, and 2. As much as I do want to root...it makes me a little nervous using my only phone as my guinea pig since I have no experience. What is the easiest/most stable root for the Amaze if I just want to optimize/delete T-Mobile bloatware/have full customization options?
Sorry for all of the questions...I just want to make sure I do this right.

2. Flash a custom recovery

2 last questions before I do the root I suppose:
1. Best way to backup in case something happens to go awry?
2. Best ROMs for the Amaze 4G...I prefer a balance between performance/longevity because I usually have to use my phone quite a bit throughout the day but I still want to be able to handle the higher-end games and such (Modern Combat 3, N.O.V.A. 3, etc.)
~By the way, thanks so much for the extra help. I really am trying to learn all of this as fast as I can.~

Well if you want to keep the standard T-mobile ROM and just remove bloat you can do that after rooting. That's what I did with my husband's phone because he didn't like any of the custom ROMs I put on there LOL. The rooting is really simple and just involves plugging your phone into your computer via USB and letting the tool do the rest.
If you do choose to go and flash another ROM there are multiple backup apps in the Google play store that are free. I like mybackup Root. It re-installs all your games and their data, so if you beat certain levels etc. it leaves all that info.
If you are looking to stay with sense and flash a new ROM I would say go with either one of the Energy ROMs they are really stable and all the bloatware is removed for you. There's two different ones in the development section depending on which theme you like better. I am currently running Jellybean Fusion on mine, but that ROM has sense completely removed. It is all really up to what you prefer. That's what I love about Android
You can also do a general backup of your current setup/rom, data, etc using the custom recovery you'll be installing.
Well...here is where I am now. I unlocked the bootloader via Hasoon2000's toolkit. But, when I try to flash recovery via the toolkit, it takes me to the command prompt and hangs at <waiting for device>...I have tried this around 10 times now and it has the same result...what do I do? Yeah, tried that. Multiple times. I have tried re-doing the whole process start-to-finish, still nothing. Is there another way to root?
If I recall correctly when I rooted last time around I had a similar problem, so I moved the folders and toolkit to my C drive directory instead of being in the subfolder and it worked.
Check out this post
I'll try that this evening when I get home from work then. The toolkit comes with 2 recovery options...4ext or TWRP...which one do I use?

Remember, if you are rooted NEVER ACCEPT AN OTA UPDATE AS YOU RUN THE RISK OF LOSING ROOT!
I'm guessing it has a new kernel as well, right? 1.22.651.1 source will be released in 4 weeks now. Heh.
Thanks for sharing this!
EDIT: This is what Mikey had to say about it...
mikeyxda said:
Yeah, looks like Sense 4.1 is rolling out. FWIW, I looked at the Sense 4.1 changes and it's nothing to get too excited about. We've already fixed a lot of stuff that Sense 4.1 fixes. For example, they claim better multitasking but I looked at the changes and you know what they did? They put in one bandaid that elevates the stock browser's OOM priority so it doesn't get killed as often and they put in a timer so the system could tell how "stale" a process is: killing older ones (that haven't been touched for a while) first. Kinda short sighted on the browser though, because it only fixes the kill problem for the stock browser. If you use Chrome, ICS Browser, Boat, Opera, or any of the others, no gain. I've already made some adjustments to elevate important tasks like SuperUser, Google Framework, etc. so they don't killed. Will be interesting to see how the two (my modded stuff and Sense 4.1) compare. They say Sense 4.1 has less bloat. We'll see. So far, what I've seen by looking under the hood of Sense 4.1 looks like nothing but a few strategically placed bandaids.

Yes, there is a new kernel as well as new radio. Should also hope that means they adjusted our phones to improve LTE as they did with the Nexus and S3. As mentioned other quick changes are we are now on Android 4.0.4 and Sense 4.1. Not sure if the quicksettings menu was really actually a part of stock Sense 4.1 as I never found concrete evidence stating it was but we didn't get it. We do obviously have the ability to remap the recent apps button and they finally added YouTube to the app associations menu so if you click on a YouTube link it opens the app and not the browser. I'm hoping EAS for hotmail is fixed as well but I will have to wait and see.

I told people that they would go back to the Evo 3D days (in the video), where you couldn't flash a kernel in recovery, and I was right!
Do NOT apply updates, if you enjoy root. And if you're here on XDA, you're probably enjoying root access, or trying to!

I hope this fixes my wi-fi issues currently running stock with goodies. So my understanding to update radios if you are htc dev unlocked is to relock and run an ruu? How long before a new version of the ruu gets posted? Wouldn't this risk breaking the currently working root methods? I don't need detailed instructions just the best steps in order to update to the latest radios.

A new HBoot? Seriously? I can't even do what I want to because I'm on 1.15 already. Now I'm scared to take this update that I really badly want.
But, I guess a brighter point to this situation is that HTC and Sprint are moving along pretty quickly with pushing out updates. Not sure if this means we'll get JB soon, but I would imagine shortly after the One X gets it, we'll be getting it as well. This kinda caught me off guard.
are the radios worth it? what do they do new?
Yet again, I apologize if my issue has already been covered in another thread, but here goes anyway.....
Is there any way to disable to bottom notification-tray or turn it into a separate icon/installed app? The reason I ask, is because it's a constant nuisance the number of times I've inadvertently clicked and opened it whilst in the middle of doing something else, like playing a game or whatever. This can be most annoying if I end up unmounting one of my external SD cards in error or whatever and have to reboot my tablet. I'm sure I'm not the only one this has been an issue for, but I would guess that if there is a solution to this issue, it may be an app that would require ROOT access, but I may be wrong (that happens from time to time <g>).
Any advice or directions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Can't see any dot there......so maybe it isn't on ICS, worse luck. You know I'd upgrade to Jellybean if only I could get my head together enough to figure out making nvflash backups, and unfortunately, I haven't done that yet. Half the problem is I'm a lazy sod, and having to re-root my Prime after upgrading to Jellybean is another PITA......u know the old saying, if it aint broke......
Any other app you can think of that would work on ICS?
On another note, flump, me old mucker, what are you views on GO Launcher EX? Me, I find it to be less of a memory/resource hog than the stock ICS launcher and is much faster to load, 'not responding' MUCH less.

Any other app you can think of that would work on ICS?
On another note, flump, me old mucker, what are you views on GO Launcher EX? Me, I find it to be less of a memory/resource hog than the stock ICS launcher and is much faster to load, 'not responding' MUCH less.

It has to be enabled in Asus customized settings first.

Nvflash is a 5 minute job. After doing that you do not need to go about installing jellybean and then root etc. You just install Hairybean 2.31 which will bring you up to Android 4.2.2 with root included.
To be honest mate these replies take me far longer than you just doing it so if you want me to talk you thru nvflash and installing the latest Hairybean I would rather do that for you over Gtalk than keep answering. lol
Let me know.

Ok buddy, appreciated, all that you said. I guess I'm just a little nervous about this whole nvflash thing in case I screw it up (I'm not the only one, trust me)
To be perfectly honest and frank, I was thinking of waiting until the official release of JB 4.3 (in October, as far as I know) before updating. What do you think?
I just tried installing GTalk, but it was detected as a virus and wouldn't install......WTF?!?!?!?
A special thanks for the pictorial guidance.....I'll check it out a bit later.
YES! It worked! Cheers bro.

There will not be anymore updates from Asus for the Prime. Jellybean 4.1.1 was the last one.
Hairybean 2.31 (4.2.2) is based off the TF300 rom which they are still updating and has nearly identical hardware to us.
I was not talking about an app for gtalk. You just go to google mail on your PC and then add a person to the chat part in the bottom left.

Don't ask me why and it's not in my usual nature, but this whole nvflash process scares the b'Jesus out of me lol
Both Android Police and UberGizmo are reporting that the latest Sprint update for their One max, which brings wifi calling, will also be bringing Sense 6.
If so that's pretty amazing turnaround, though I don't see any updates on HTC's update page.
Is anybody on Sprint seeing an OTA with Sense 6?
Will be very eager if any Sprint users can check on this.

That's the news. Apparently LlabTooFeR posted a screenshot of the update on Twitter a few minutes ago:

That's great, crazy fast. With Verizon's track record I'm sure it won't be that fast for the rest of us, but I guess one can hope.

I'm sure they'll have it by the end of summer, haha.
But, I'm sure the developers can muster up a pretty stable ROM to hold everyone else over. I have the One, not the Max on Sprint. I'm thinking if they got the update today, I won't be very far behind. I read that tweet and now I'm pasted to XDA, haha.

Confirmation. Just checked on my sprint one max and bammo. Now I have to find a stock recovery image.
Edit: anyone know where to get a copy of the stock image. Really don't want to have to ruu. I'm on rooted stock right now.

Not flashable. Fastboot flash the recovery img inside

I'll post system and boot here when I get them, unless someone beats me to it

Just Posted the OTA in the dev section also.
I'd be really interested to know what the Sense 6 update has brought in terms of the camera? Specifically, does the camera now have manual focus like the M8 on Sense 6?

Yeah dude, update your OP with a system dump.. I've posted in other sections here how to "DD" the boot.img to the SD and then upload it, for the system just "adb pull /system/" and then zip it up and upload it here for us would be very very much appreciated!!! Flyhalf wants to get it ready for Verizon users..... Thanks bro
WTF? I have the International Unlocked version, shouldn't I have received the update before carrier subsidised phones?
Not necessarily, remember Sprint was going to release the Android 4.4.3 update to their Nexus 5 a few weeks ago but pulled it due to some issues.. That means the Sprint Nexus 5 would have had it before the GSM Unlocked Google Nexus 5.. lol.... Crazy how things have been transpiring hehe

Sorry about that, I didn't mean to sound butt-hurt about it. I was just under the impression that the unlocked international versions were always the first to receive updates according to their diagram that they released a month or 2 ago.
Okay finally after updating I flashed the hotspot fix and installed supersu through twrp and now when i unlock my phone I get "this app is not compatable with your phone" I can't do anything other than go through my notifications... It says unauthorized device above the message... This is really odd...

Not to sound like I don't care about your issue, but could you make a backup and upload it despite it being wonky?
I would try a factory reset first(wipe data).
If not, ok. But Flyhalf and I would be most grateful.
Thanks! Or anyone who could do so would be awesome! :good::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::good:

I would but my upload speeds are really bad. Plus I need to get my phone working asap.
EDIT: It was fine till i flashed the hotspot fix and it wanted me to root. Now I have wiped all but system and it still goes right to unauthorized device this app is not compatabile with your device... Starting to panic a bit... Really don't feel like Ruuing again tonight... Might have to. So a warning this may not be rootable right now... Or I'm a retard...

Flash stock recovery and do a factory reset.
That should resolve any issues...
Just a suggestion, wish I had this phone.
Would have a rooted rom up by now.
I personally just want the dump for dna, m7, t6, and m8 ports...
