So I think the centre column of my touchscreen is not working. I have tried touch test and it does seem to break over one particular column. It is the same physical space whether landscape or portrait.
Is this likely? Could it be software/apps rather than hardware? Anyone else have this problem?
Am I going to have to return it? :-(

So there's a (what I thought was a dead spot) sensitive spot near the top of my screen. It's about an inch tall and spans the whole screen wide. If you press normal to hard it'll do a instant single click. But I found out if you touch it really lightly it'll function like normal.
Now the weird part is it stays w/ the rotation. If you turn it upside down or sideways the bar always effects the same icons and widgets in its path so I don't believe its a hardware problem.
Anyone else have this problem?
i'm assuming you're using a 101 as this seems to be a normal defect of the device. there is a fix where you have to dig inside your archos to get rid of the flex or you can just make a habit of lightly touching it. it's a pain trying to drag widgets on the screen b/c of this.
you can try to recalibrate the screen to see if it may help any.
Yea on a 101 and the recalibrate doesn't help. What is this fix your talking about?

The fix that madsquabbles is referring to can be found here:

(You will have to copy and paste the link. I don't have enough posts to enter a URL. )
I have also read that it may go away with time and multiple recalibrations, or that it may be caused by a "rogue" application and/or widget that has issues with the device.

Try that one.
I had some rotation problems where rotation of the screen was not working at all so I restored to an old backup with ROM Manager. Was still having problems so I restored the stock firmware from sammobile and am now running running 3.2 Kernel 2.6.36.3
So I am running stock and I go into Horizontal calibration and the ball is stuck to the right and center and not moving. I calibrate and now the ball is in the middle and when I tilt forwards and backwards the ball moves but side to side nothing happens. Now I can rotate the device upside down and it will rotate but if I put it on its side nothing happens.
Is this a hardware issue? Is there anything else I can try to fix it? Any more info I can provide that would be helpful?
usually recalibrate solve this problem..
maybe hardware issue..warranty?
I've changed screen on my Flyer. Repair parts were from working tablet with dead battery controller. So I simply replace donor's mainboard with mine. Now I've got this kind of problem: middle part of screen (where upper row of letters is situated in portrait mode) handles my touch like multitouch of near area. For example, I press Backspace, and screen shows touch of Backspace and 0. Other parts of screen works fine. I've made calibration reset, hard reset but nothing gone. Please help me to find solution. Any help would be appreciated
Hi,
my Atrix is behaving strange lately, but i just don't want to let go my old lady... so anyone has any idea re. root-cause of the problem?
situation
i got aware that the touchscreen had stopped working for a particular row, next to the volume control buttons. for me, it's been clear: hardware failure.
i wanted to see the symptoms in detail, hence installed a diagnostic app to check the touchscreen and identify the "dead zone" properly.
SCREENSHOT #1
but
when playing around, in the endeavor to paint all my screen blue, swiftly swiping my finger across the touchscreen. after a while, the phone's reactions became sluggish, and the home/back buttons would not bring me back to my home screen. so i switched the dialogs off and on again (power button). and the home/back buttons returned to work fine.
BUT
to my utmost surprise, the touchscreen problem had gone!! no more dead areas in the touchscreen!
SCREENSHOT #2
only after a while, the problem returns and the very same row is dead again regarding touch inputs.
Amazing! and this is fully reproducible! it's necessary for the app to react sluggishly (which is only randomly achieved), and the home/back buttons to stop working, to temporarily 'heal' the touchscreen.
So it's not a hardware, but software problem?
what's your opinion?
BTW, I am running a rooted stock release, european version, atrix 4g.
cheers
chris
There are no screenshots in your post.
Also, there are plenty enough threads about this, was yet another one really necessary?
Problem Cause - Solution Approaches
OK, sorry. What's the solution: 1 - 2 - 3 below?
1) Sounds reasonable - bad contact in a connector:
Emerging Hardware Issue: Touch Screen Dead Zones
2) This does not help a lot. Seems only for custom ROMs:
touchscreen is off only at the bottom of the screen
3) That's not very helpful - there's no description what the idea behind this mod is.

4) Do what most of us have done, which is replace digitizer or replace device completely
Hi does anyone have a touch freeze issue if a wide touch is given to the screen.
I have this issue. I play pubg mobile with 4 fingers claw setup and whenever my fingers touch a wide surface area the touch just freezes. It is really annoying. I am not sure if its a problem with my display or if it is a software issue. Does anyone else have this issue??
Just test this- In any webpage in chrome try to scroll up and down by swiping with the whole of your index finger and see if the touch freezes or not.
Please check it and give an answer. I want to know whether its an issue with my device or a software issue.
