Portrait-to-landscape problems - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't know wheter this is accelerometer or gyroscope, but I have problems with moving from portrait to landscape, vice versa. It goes to landscape abnormaly fast, but when I take it up and want it to use in portrait mode, It doesn't want to move, I have to touch the screen and shake phone a bit and then it would change... I accidently entered calibration gyroscope and tamper in there, how to fix that? Help
I place it on the table in the portrait mode, and after like 5 seconds it changes to landscape. Lol

Yes, I did that, again, still the same.

Download a diagnostics app such as Sensor List (vector rotation sensor) or Z-DeviceTest and check that your X-Y-Z axis are actually changing in "real time". If they are, more than likely a ROM issue and not hardware. Edit: In that case, backup, factory reset. If rooted, same, but also wipe cache and dalvil in recovey before flashing ROM in Recovery or Odin.

I recalibrated like 10 times, cleared cache, and now it's ok. I don't know what was wrong.

I have the same problem with LBP, LBH ICS leaks.
When I played Modern Combat3, the kyroscope always get wrong way.

First do the "Reset Calibration" then do your own calibration is how I did it.

That's for the HTC Keyboard ONLY. THat has no effect on anything else.
And no, there is no way (or need) to calibrate the screen.
The dialog says for the tool says "Calibrate your screen for a better touch experience".
While I did not design the phone or interface, I don't know 100% either way and luckily, it can't hurt.
*If you did code the interface and know for sure, thank you. ;-)
Thanks

I wish there was a way to calibrate the touch screen. Anyone else having issues where you press the top thread of SMS and it goes to the 4th one down and then it locks the screen like it's touching there so I can't press anything else? No back button, home button. Only thing that works is locking it then unlocking but sometimes you have to do that 3 to 4 times before it will stop "touching" that same spot. I haven't hard reset yet but if that doesn't work I'm going to have them replace it.
That happened to me a lot with the original evo, not as bad with this one, but it has been off a few times

Are you daft? It calibrates the G-sensor, as in the sensor that reads the G forces the phone is being exposed to.

Nevermind only an option on my rom

Nope I have the option as well. The feature is offered on most stock based roms I believe.

It sounds like your digitizer (touchscreen interface) may be going out. Try to calibrate in the keyboard settings and then calibrate the "g" (accelerometer) sensor. If you're still having issues with p,0 put your phone in landscape mode where the home button is on top and confirm that area of the screen by pressing the comma or space bar. Good luck.

You might also try a Gingerbread Rom as I've noticed the accuracy to sometimes be off on ics Roms, especially near the screen edges. Or, maybe try a different keyboard.

[Q] Screen in Camera app often very dark

Hi
my woman got the Galaxy S2 and has a problem with the camera app. The app shows a very dark screen like a maximum power saving mode. The rest of the apps are Ok. It can help then if I turn off the automatic brightness of the screen and the energy saving settings and turn them on again. But after a couple of days you have to the same again. So she is a bit p...ed about that. Does anybody of you have an idea how to get it stable bright?
BR MArtin
'my woman'...lol.
Anyway if you go into the camera app settings, scroll to the bottom and click 'reset'. Maybe your exposure settings or contrast etc were changed somehow. If that doesn't work...might be something up with the camera, or even some rubbish on the lens. You could just take it back and get a new one..
Never had problems with that, but all I can think of is that the illumination-sensor next to the front-face cam is dirty?
(less light coming tru makes everything darker?)

With the settings in the picture everything is ok. The picture taken with the camera are ok. Also the Sensor is ok as it is working fine everywhere else. Any other ideas?

And yes it's my wifes phone I have a HTC Sensation

Strange. Was it like that when she bought it? Just take it back and exchange it for a new one...

666fff .. Why take it back to the store immediately?
Anyways... So I you have the app (camera) open.. Do the bars (with the icons in it) also seem dark or do they look (normal)bright?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Yes everything is dark must be some problems with the energy settings or whatever
BR MArtin
Let me eliminate some causes:
- you've unchecked 'automatic screen brightness'?
(@settings)
- you've tried maximizing brightness manually?
- you've rebooted throughout the process? (giving the phone the chance to apply it's settings, sometimes all it needs is a reboot)
Let me know.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Basically I tried evrything you said with unchacking and Checking the automatically settings and also the additional Energysaving settings it gets back fine for some days but then it changes back to the dark setting unless i check and uncheck the boxes again. So it seems not to be a stable sollution. So I search now for a sollution that the camera app always runs with maximal display brightness
I've tried about everything then.
I ran some tests on my own SGS2 but I can't emulate the dark bars.
Not even by holding my finger over the light-sensor.
But I guess it's like this and I DO NOT know a fix for it: seems like the phone is learning that you don't use the camera much. So if you do. It will automatically go into power saving mode since the priority for battery-use is for system instead of cam (due to low-use)
So the only last thing I could think of, is that you've enabled automatic power saving?
Uncheck it and take Juice Defender as your 'battery saver' fixed alot of issues with brightness going up and down for me(very annoying) never goes up and down for me anymore!.
I hope this is of good help.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Ok will try that with Juice Defender.
BR MArtin
I have write me a task with Tasker witch put me max sensor light and auto rotation on when I open the cam. after closing it revers to the normal state! ,-)
I think I had the same problem as you.
In the camer app > Settings > Outdoor Visibility > ON
(it unfortunately resets everytime I exit the app)
Hope it helps
I tried with the Outdoor visibility but this seems to change the colors of the screen and not the brightness.
You are right, that does not work. I was at work when I tried this and it seemed to make the screen brighter, but outside in the sun light it does not make any difference. So I have the same problem as you lol
It's not his screen or image. It's the gray bars on the sides that he means.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
I tried the following thing and it's work :
1. Uncheck auto brightness
2. Make the brightness 100 %
3.Check again auto brightness.
On my phone when i made this the brightness on the camera is 100% and is not depending from auto brightness.
this totally worked! seems like within the camera app, there is no auto-adjusting of brightness and it always defaults to what the last brightness setting was set, regardless of auto-brightness status (checked/unchecked).

Auto Rotation problem

Hello guys. My new S2 has a problem. When i activate Auto rotation it only works in landscape mode, but when i try to put it in portrait it doesn't work, no matter what position i rotate my phone in. I think the problem is the accelerometer sensor. How can i fix it?

The first thing for me to try is always a factory reset, wipe cache, dalvik and do full reset. 9 times out of ten this has fixed issues for me.
If it doesn't work then you can go into test mode on your phone and test the accelerometer. Open dial pad and dial *#0*#
That'll give you some idea if it's the accelerometer

You both have to provide your ROM details.
Anyways, if you guys are running CM9, CM10 or any AOKP based Roms, then the instructions below should solve your problems:
1. Goto settings - Display
2. Under ROTATION, enable every option you find there.
All should be well if you the simple instructions.
If you have any more questions, do let me know

I'm on AOKP JB 4.2.2 MR1- Build 5 with my GT-i9100. When I try auto rotate after a reboot it works. 10 minutes later it won't work anymore but after some time it might work again and after that it's stuck in one position again. Calibrating my device doesn't help and I can't find anything else in settings that could help. Thanks in advance.
Bump, sorry if this is annoying but I want to respond in main AOKP channel, can't do it as I'm a ''junior'' member. I just need my answer

Just to mention, in Camera mode, it is flipping normally from Landscape to Portrait and contrary.
my camera can`t stop rotating even with rotation and motion turned off.. i snap a picture holding the phone straight(portrait) and the pictures come randomly...one is upside down , the other is sideways. And i have the same problem with different roms? now i`m with alliance rom 7.3 and before that i was with chamelion rom

An easy fix for me on rotation issue
Hey i had the same issue as well, and i followed some of the other instructions in trying to wipe my cache and factory reset to fix the isse, nothing happened my sensors were still off when i tested it and i could put it to landscape, but i could not get it back to portrait. and i also tried some other suggestions as well. Finally i decided i was going to live with it until i found this app call (auto rotate widget) by jason hull, i would post a link but i just registered.
Some how this app fixed my phone and all i did was install it, i never touched any of the settings and now my sensors are back to normal and the phone is rotating perfect now.

Solved auto Rotation problem of S2 (I9100)

This may be a old solution. But for few days I was very worried with my phone's auto rotation problem.
My phone go into landscape and doesnt come back to potrait mode. In games of gyro it just started behaving wierd. So I started crawling various forums for the solution and many people still dont have the solution.
So here it is.
If your phones rotation is working partly then it may not have a hardware problem it just not calibrated properly.
And that calibration can only be done in gingerbread which I realised after solving my problem.
So I have flashed neat rom 2.3.5 with full wipe(data+caches+system+preload)which u will get in sticky thread.
Thanks a lot sale for the rom.
After flashing go to settings then display then horizontal calibration.
Place your S2 on a flat surface and tap on calibrate.
And magic is done now you can see your rotation and gyro problems are gone.
Now you can flash any JB rom with full wipe.
You will not face those problems again.
If you are still facing than dont bang your head to the wall just take it to the service center.
Enjoy......

Auto rotate problems

My phone won't change into portrait mode and the camera orientation is messed up as well please help!!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Not condescending... bit auto rotate is ON right?
If so:
Sounds like a kernel oddity.
Reflash the kernel, or entire Rom if you'd like, and see if that helps.
If after you do that it's still isn't right, pick a new rom entirely.
After that if it's still messed up... it's likely hardware and the accelerometer is giving you the finger.
