Solved auto Rotation problem of S2 (I9100) - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This may be a old solution. But for few days I was very worried with my phone's auto rotation problem.
My phone go into landscape and doesnt come back to potrait mode. In games of gyro it just started behaving wierd. So I started crawling various forums for the solution and many people still dont have the solution.
So here it is.
If your phones rotation is working partly then it may not have a hardware problem it just not calibrated properly.
And that calibration can only be done in gingerbread which I realised after solving my problem.
So I have flashed neat rom 2.3.5 with full wipe(data+caches+system+preload)which u will get in sticky thread.
Thanks a lot sale for the rom.
After flashing go to settings then display then horizontal calibration.
Place your S2 on a flat surface and tap on calibrate.
And magic is done now you can see your rotation and gyro problems are gone.
Now you can flash any JB rom with full wipe.
You will not face those problems again.
If you are still facing than dont bang your head to the wall just take it to the service center.
Enjoy......

Compass quit working

My compass and GPS have always worked with the different ROMs and kernels I've tried. I was running MIUIWiz and I think the compass has worked since I flashed it but now my compass has quit working. It'll show on the screen but will not spin to show direction. I tried all the settings with no luck. I flashed ComRom with OTB kernel thinking it was maybe something with that but still no luck. We do alot of hiking and I would love for the compass to work. The GPS works great just no compass. Any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks
An interesting thing is that I also lost auto-rotation of the screen. Even if auto-rotate is on it still won't rotate on any screen with any app. I've been using Go Launcher but tried others and still won't work. I don't know if compass sensors and sensors that activate auto rotate if related but neither work. Any suggestions?
They are different sensors.
Try downloading GPS Status and calibrating your compass (under the tools menu). If that doesn't work, try downloading a metal detector app and see if you get any response. If you're getting no reading at all, then it may be a hardware failure. If the reading is there but off, it may be a calibration issue.
A temporary revert to stock EB01 fixed this issue for me, see:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038519
If you're having rotate problems, with adb or root explorer, delete m3c_sensor.cfg I think from /data/system and then toggle auto rotate. That should fix your problems.

[Q] screen wont rotate

ok here is the problem my screen wont rotate did a soft and hard reset and all only time it switches view are when i'am in the andriod market ,netflix and so forth ,but at the home screen everything is the long way now it cool when iam reading my book or my comic books and i think i can deal with it but i do like it when its the other way too any help with this problem would be great
Did you check settings, screen and auto rotate?
Or did you lock your screen with a setting in one of the launchers?
And how did you get your market and Netflix to rotate? Mine doesn't.

You need to be a bit more informative about the problem brother. Things like what model do you have( wifi only, 4G...) are you running a stock unrooted Tab or are you rooted and running a custom rom, if so which rom and are you using the stock launcher or a 3rd party one??? It'll help us to figure out what's going on.
Now after rereading your post a few times this is what I'm understanding. When you say "long ways" I'm assuming you mean portrait... right? That would mean that your Tab is stuck in portrait (longer from top to bottom and shorter from side to side) and the only time it jumps to landscape is when you go to Apps that are written to automatically switch to landscape when opened, like the Market and Netflix. You also say that you've done a soft rest (meaning completely powered off your Tab) and did a hard rest (meaning you did a factory rest) am I right so far???
If I'm on the right track with what I've posted above and this is assuming that your running a stock unrooted Tab and the stock TW launcher you could very well have a bad accelerometer. That's the sensor in side of our Tabs that tell it how your holding it. If you did a factory rest (hardrest) then that should have reset your Tab it exactly how it was when you took it out of the box. And auto rotation would be set on by default.
Go to settings> screen> and make sure you have "auto rotate screen" checked.
Hit us back with some more info so we can try and help out a bit more.

Hey SouthPhilly...
I noticed this thread suddenly stopped.
I am having the exact same issue, and have done a reset to factory on my device and the screen still does not rotate unless forced to by an app.
Just wondering if you were going to launch in to a possible solution.
thanks.

Auto Rotation problem

Hello guys. My new S2 has a problem. When i activate Auto rotation it only works in landscape mode, but when i try to put it in portrait it doesn't work, no matter what position i rotate my phone in. I think the problem is the accelerometer sensor. How can i fix it?

The first thing for me to try is always a factory reset, wipe cache, dalvik and do full reset. 9 times out of ten this has fixed issues for me.
If it doesn't work then you can go into test mode on your phone and test the accelerometer. Open dial pad and dial *#0*#
That'll give you some idea if it's the accelerometer

You both have to provide your ROM details.
Anyways, if you guys are running CM9, CM10 or any AOKP based Roms, then the instructions below should solve your problems:
1. Goto settings - Display
2. Under ROTATION, enable every option you find there.
All should be well if you the simple instructions.
If you have any more questions, do let me know

I'm on AOKP JB 4.2.2 MR1- Build 5 with my GT-i9100. When I try auto rotate after a reboot it works. 10 minutes later it won't work anymore but after some time it might work again and after that it's stuck in one position again. Calibrating my device doesn't help and I can't find anything else in settings that could help. Thanks in advance.
Bump, sorry if this is annoying but I want to respond in main AOKP channel, can't do it as I'm a ''junior'' member. I just need my answer

And i have the same problem with different roms? now i`m with alliance rom 7.3 and before that i was with chamelion rom

An easy fix for me on rotation issue
Hey i had the same issue as well, and i followed some of the other instructions in trying to wipe my cache and factory reset to fix the isse, nothing happened my sensors were still off when i tested it and i could put it to landscape, but i could not get it back to portrait. and i also tried some other suggestions as well. Finally i decided i was going to live with it until i found this app call (auto rotate widget) by jason hull, i would post a link but i just registered.
Some how this app fixed my phone and all i did was install it, i never touched any of the settings and now my sensors are back to normal and the phone is rotating perfect now.

[Q] Is there a fix for a broken proximity sensor in CM 10.1?

Is there a workaround or fix to the proximity sensor issue when using CyanogenMod 10.1? It doesn't matter which dialer I use, my screen goes blank and I can't get it back on to use the keypad or hang up.
Thanks in advance.

If you are using a screen protector, there is a known issue regarding placement. If the protector cutout is too close to the sensor, it will interfere with the proper operation of the sensor and blank out the screen too easily.
I ran into a similar issue, turns out the tinting on the screen for the sensors had gotten dirty inside and I had to disassemble my phone and clean the sensor Windows. However if you don't like the idea of disassembling your phone, the HTC rezound proximity calibrator app on Google play might be helpful to you. I would try the app first before doing something more extreme.

I don't have a screen protector. This solved it for me. Many thanks.
That said, the settings I'm using are a little weird. I have the Low set to 81, and it doesn't seem to matter what the High is set to (currently 100).
This fix works

this totally worked to fixed this same issue I have had. I used to have to go outside on a sunny day for my screen to come on while making a phone call. Once I used this app I was able to get it to come on in a dark room with hardly any light. I may at some point open her up and actually clean the inside of the sensor cover, but for now this worked like a charm.
Thanks for the tip.
One item to note, if you do decide to open your phone and clean the sensor windows, don't clean too aggressively or you will remove the tint from the backside of the glass. Just a tip.
I'm glad you guys have gotten your sensors working again.
I just had this problem today. Previously I never had issues with prox sensor, but just a couple days ago I did a complete wipe (data, cache, dalvik, system and internal SD card) and installed RC1 with a fresh install. The app mentioned above DID fix my issue however I know its a ghetto fix. Before running the app, the proximity sensor would work normally in good light, but not in low light. After running the app it works even in dark light which is great. However, I know its a weird fix. I can actually see the red proximity sensor during calls, when I couldn't previously. I'm glad I got it working, but I know there is something wrong still, and it's definitely ROM related as opposed to hardware because just 2 days earlier it worked fine before the clean install. Hmm..

[Q] Flickering Multicolored Lines

For the past week or so my phone has had flickering multicolored lines flash across the homescreen(s)/lockscreen when I turn the display back on. Sometimes it will also happen if I'm sitting on the homescreen with the display already on.
Here is my Rom history as the problem began:
Was on supernexus (Android 4.2.2 I believe) - issue was not present
Flashed Unofficial Slim build 6 (wiped cache/dalvik/factory reset before install)- started having the issue
Flashed Unofficial Slim build 6.2 (wiped cache/dalvik)- issue still present
Flashed AOCP 5.7 yesterday (wiped cache/dalvik/factory reset and formatted internal SD)- thought issue was gone, but it started happening again today.
I tried taking screenshots but the issue disappears as soon as I press the volume+power button to take the screenshot. This only seems to happen when I'm on the homescreen/lockscreen, I dont think it has happened while in any other apps.
I'm wondering if this might be an issue with the specific version of the Nova launcher, as I believe that is the common denominator between these Roms (isn't AOCPs launcher based on CM's nova?). I just installed go launcher and the problem seems to be gone (for now).
Has anyone else seen something like this? I apologize if this has been discussed somewhere, I spent several hours searching Google and XDA before posting. I can post a picture later when I have access to another camera phone.
Same issue here
I have the same issue at the lock screen. Prevalent on all JB roms I have tried, carbon, revolt & slim bean.
I'm currently using Carbon nightly. I have not seen a fix for this yet. I have heard it might be an issue with the processor waking up from sleep.
After installing Go Launcher Ex opening it a couple times and then going back to using the Aspire launcher that came with AOCP, I haven't had this issue again all afternoon. Didn't have it at all yesterday though, so it might come back.
I played around with all the brightness settings but it didn't seem to do anything. Do you happen to have any pictures of the effect you are getting? I'll try and post a picture of mine tonight if it happens again. Thanks!
About 3 hours ago, I changed some GPU & lock screen settings and the issue has not reappeared.
I will post back either later tonight or tomorrow morning with some info.
I haven't taken any photos of the problem yet. By the way, do you usually experience the issue on lock screen coming from a screen off state?
ditto on this. I have Cyanogenmod 10.1 installed and I get these lines intermittently.
Try turning off CRT animations and disable hw overlays.

Have the same issue going on had freezing and resolved that now I'm stuck on these lines multiple diff ROMs I am running cm10 I see people saying he overlays can someone provide a little more info on what that is and where to find it? Attaching screen shots of these multi color lines we speak of
Nvm can do it with the browser will edit this later and add them with a pc

Go to settings, developer options scroll half way down and you will find it. You will have to disable it every time you reboot or you can use two paid apps from the market. These apps are tasker and secure setting they are both worth every cent.

Just enabled "Disabled HW overlay" and "Force GPU rendering". Like some of the users suggested, I found about the possible solution from this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhhPPke_Nbw
(go to 1:40)
I usually get the flickering with the lock screen (I use WidgetLocker Lockscreen). I was having some flickering this morning and checking both of those options seemed to immediately cut out the flickering.
I ran across it(the flickering lines) on one of the 4.2.2 roms, can't remember exactly which one but what I ended up having to do was disable one of the tweak apps it came with and install Trickster Mod only. Worked for me, no more flickering or rebooting, not sure what the cause may have been but have had no other issues after that for I believe it was 2 weeks
Please elaborate

Scroll down to my post there. If you still need help, just let me know.
Trickster mod I believe is mainly for Rom's that have Kernels that can be OC'd or Under Clocked. Kind of the same as Android Tweaker or SetCPU but is a little smoother for me IMO.
