Dual Boot CM9 Alpha13 and CM7? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running the latest CM7 weekly build (December 10th) on my Atrix, but I would like to play around with the CM9 Alpha every now and then. The ICS alpha doesn't support the camera yet which is the biggest deal breaker. Is it possible for my to dual boot the two so that I can use CM7 when I need the camera or more stability? If so, how might I go about doing this?

Not for the Atrix, unfortunately. Someone did get it working on other phones, but they came across problems on the Atrix.

Backups and restores. Only option.

Alright thanks. I guess I'll just stick with CM7 until CM9 is ready to be my daily driver.

Most stable rom?

Hi all,
My cousins atrix has started playing up (keyboard crashes, browser force closes etc) and ive advised that he change roms. Ive been looking though this forum for the past hour or so and am surprised to see so many roms - you guys have so much choice! (Ive got an optimus black and weve got maybe about 4 roms which is nothing compared to you guys!)
Anyway my cousin is a bit of a noob so I dont want to install a rom that will cause problems. Which rom should I install on his atrix please?
Thanks
The most recent releases of CM7, including CM7.2 RC1 and the most current nightly releases, have been pretty stable for me. I couldn't tell you about the non-CM7 ROMs (i.e. the ones based on the stock Atrix ROM) as I haven't used one for quite a while. There are several so-called CM9 ROMs out (based on ICS), but IMHO they aren't stable enough if you rely heavily on your phone, though they are getting there.

Im using joker's cm9. Its actually stable enough to be used as a daily driver. Yes the rom is in beta so there are bugs like video recording/playback, multitouch and small probs here and there due to missing ics drivers.

Wouldn't really consider that stable. Stable to me means everything works. Nottachtrix for stock look, and CM7 for AOSP

I agree - If your cousin doesn't need the fingerprint reader or webtop go with CM7 for now till the devs get the issues worked out on CM9.
Another vote for CM7. Its absolutely rock solid, and the weekly builds have fingerprint scanner support. CM9 is pretty good, but as has been mentioned its missing a few features and does have a few bugs that prevent some from being able to use it as a daily driver.
CM7 RC1 is where it's at now, no issues whatsoever for me.
Anyone know what is the progress of webtop on CM7 or 9?
Instead of CM7, I'd reccomend Neutrino. Install GO Launcher EX, ICS theme for the launcher and system and you've got yourself the best GB ROM with ICS-look.

Useless things such as TTS, VPN and Languages have been removed to make the ROM smaller. You just gotta flash a few more tiny .zip's...
Neutrino is better than CM7 at the base level. I reccomend you flash Neutrino GT+ version and under/overclock the CPU according to your needs.

+1 ╰☆╮Neutrino ROM V2.6╰☆╮ ....it is the best for battery and performance in my view....if you need the blur (webtop)... all three of Nottach roms are great although he supports only NottachTrix4G....
+1 for CM7.
I'd recommend you CM7 with faux kernel.

For a first time custom rom flash I'd go with Nottachtrix, very stable and Aroma Installer makes it very easy to customize to your liking.

I flash ROMs like crazy and I have to say Neutrino is by far the greatest rom! So what if you have to flash a few zips....thats how he made such an amazing rom...He stripped it down to the basics and you add the stuff that you want. I use the GT version but underclock to 1.00GHz most of the time...Saves battery but if I need the power, its available to me. 2.7 is out now....it has a wifi bug on the GT and GT+ versions though. You have to reflash faux's kernal to fix. Otherwise just use EE version. Its plenty fast enough without overclock.

Try jokersax's CM9 ROM. Its pretty stable and in beta. The thing is if you are going to install an ICS rom, you need to do it now before Sprint releases the 2.3.5 maintenance update which locks the bootloader.

All our ics roms are based off jokers so try any of em. If I had to pick oit of stability, id say go with cm9 or cna.
Miui has been the most stable ics rom for me. I don't really care for the iphonish stock launcher, so I use one of the ics launchers instead. Looks just like cm9. AOKPCB is also good and has great battery life.

Where is CM9? I don't see the Photon as a supported device on the cyanogenmod website. Is the camera working? That's kind of a deal-breaker for me as I use it quite a bit with Evernote in recording receipts and quick pics with my kids.
I have it on my TouchPad and love it, but of course no camera there. Just wondering if that has changed with Photon.
Many thanks.

Camera works...might still be some rotation issues but it works. Overall a very functional/stable ICS rom. As far as I know it has been submitted to the CM team to be added as a supported device.
Any of the ICS ROMs are a good bet. CM9 or CNA are very stable. AOKP and AOKPCB are cool, too. There is also MIUI. I have tried all of them. Main issues are video isn't working without a third party app like camera 360 and tge web browser will close if you rotate the screen. These probably won't be corrected until some official ICS libs and/or drivers are released. Over all they are very good ROMs, very stable, lots of nice features, too.
One thing you need to be aware of. In order to flash any ICS ROM you have to be on an unlocked bootloader. Unlocking Borks 4G, if that matters that is the only real drawback.
My MoPho's in the kitchen sink!!
I was surprised to see how stable the ICS roms are. After reading the threads up until now, I was worried for a headache but I installed AOKP and have only about 5 bugs with it and they are definitely annoying but I have been using my phone daily for a few days without any major problems.

Stable ROM for Photon GSM

Hi, I am using Photon for my GSM. I have unlocked my phone and right now using MIUI ROM.
Can anyone suggest me which is the best available stable ROM for my photon with very less issues. Please help.
peetr's 2.3.5 Hybrid. It offer's the most in advantages vs stability. The current version has very few bugs and is extremely stable. It may not be "cool" but then again neither was Imperium.
1. Can we ange the status bar to be like MIUI ?
2. Do the softkey light works fine ?
3. Can i able con to sync facebook contacts and displays their photos and details in contacts with native apps without using Hexsync or something ?
Please give a reply .
ic4 roms not stable as u think
i tried 3 diffrent rom parinoid aokp and cm9 none were stable my phone wold randomly reboot when not being used , net flix dosent work issues with the kick stand mode i thought they all lacked the attension to detail since motorola makes things a lil harder soposidly
I second the choice of peetr's 2.3.5 rom. It works great and has been virtually bug free. I've tried stock, Imperium, paranoid, cm9, and cm7 also and the only one I can get data on aside from peetr's is cm7. I'm trying out simplemobile on my photon to see how t-mobiles network is.
Back to Stock
I unlocked my Photon to work with the AT&T and then decided to try some different roms. I think I want to go back to stock rom but keep unlock, how can I do that?

How is that rom going so far?
Did you used some fix or something?
peetr_'s 2.3.5 Hybrid is the best.
but for the adventurous people; cm10 alpha is getting along well with gsm network. better than cm9 alpha.
all CM9 have bugs
as i tried different CM9 ROM, all of them had major bugs, unless if you are considering camcorder not major part of the phone, even the alpha CM10 have the same bug and more.
for me i had to wait until an official release from Motorola
I think cm10 beta by jokersax with gapps v3 is better even though in the beta stage smooth and fast with small issues like white screen in camera application(but mind you jelly bean camera takes awesome photos even with the white screen) camcorder issues and themes not able to apply

CM7.2 vs. CM9 -- Your thoughts?

I've been using CM9 for 4-5 weeks now, and I like it. It's nearly perfect, but the rotation and camera bugs aren't exactly deal breakers for me, though I would like to have full use of my phone. CM9 just got an update, but CM7.2 is updated almost daily, and I suppose everything works due to the Gingerbread drivers being available. Plus, Gingerbread uses fewer resources. It's not overclocked, but I imagine in running at 1GHz it gets better battery life.
So just wondering what the Photon/Electrify users think, and a poll for nice statistics.
I was using cm9 as my daily for many months. When the newness wore off I started experimenting with other roms including cm7. And I must stay, after using cm7, cm9 seems to feel very sloppy and forced. This is no fault of joker, just the current tools he is given. Cm7 is absolutely a dream and is leaps and bounds more customizable than cm9 in its current iteration. You'll find that everything works without flaw and that battery is much better. All in all, if you need to be on the bleeding edge, run cm9. If you want full functionality and everything to just work, run cm7.

Thanks for the input. That's all very helpful. I love the hell outta ICS/CM9 and I have it set up nice, but I'm going on vacation in a couple months, and, while I'd like to show off ICS, stability and fluidity will be more important, as well as battery life.
And no, I don't wanna knock Joker either, he does great work, I'm just not sure if I'm a bleeding edge kind of guy. Part of me is (the whole geek thing) but another part of me wants something that just works. I'll get something that's risky and cool (Paranoid Android in tablet mode, for example) and then I'll go back to something safe. Actually using Paranoid Android in phone mode right now. I like the centered (yes, iPhone-like) clock.
I like CM9 but the camera stuff is a deal breaker for me. I've used the CM7/2.3.5 hybrid from peetr. It's smooth, fast, battery-sipping, and wonderful. I love the 1080p video camera. I tried overclocking it (you can do that with CM7 roms, by the way), but I didn't really notice a difference in speed, and it seems just a bit unstable. I think the biggest difference people notice in speed with overclocking, other than benchmarks, is the fact that they don't have a bunch of apps and settings slowing their phone down when they first load a new ROM, so of course it seems faster than what they were just working with.

Jellybean will be less stable than cm9 and hellaless stable than cm7 for a while. Try to remember that it's taken joker months of hard work to make cm9 this stable on a gingerbread kernel and components from other devices. Jellybean is exciting, but it's a generally small update that is meant to fix bugs and introduce a couple new apps. The problems we have with cm9 (lack of libs, kernel) will still exist.

I'm pretty sure Butter will require working drivers to work properly, so as excited as I am to see a JB port to our Photons, I doubt it'll be nearly as smooth as it seems until we get proper drivers =/.
I'm currently on CM 7.2 and loving it, but will move over to CM9 once we get some leaked drivers/kernel from Motorola. Joker does some great work, and it's impressive to see how much is working on ICS without those bits from Moto.
I agree. I am using Cm7 because it is stable. I really like Cm7 but am ready to move back to a more stable CM9.

[Q] Codename Android MoPho Browser bug help?

Im using Codename android 2.0.0

maybe its a kernel problem?(kernel version 2.6.32.58-MB855-CM9-g5bd1732)
ive been searching all day to a fix for this
This is an issue with every CM9 based rom. I've had some success with Firefox Beta. I keep multiple past versions on my SD card because each rom I flash seems to work differently with each browser. Jokersax did just release a version of his unofficial cm9 build that has a rotation fix if you'd like to try that:
