[Q] Want to Upgrade from froyo to gingerbread or ICS - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
This is my first post in this forum. Apology for my bad English. My brother send me Verizon Fascinate from USA to Bangladesh.
Verizon Fascinate SCH-I500;
Hardware version I500.04;
Firmware version 2.2.1;
Baseband version S:i500.04 V.ED01;
Kernel version 2.6.32.9
Build number SCH-I500.ED01
Before my brother send to me he discontinued with Verizon. Now I'm going to take service with my local CDMA operator.
My question is can I upgrade non Verizon Firmware 2.3.x? or ICS
If I then how?

Section:2
*How to flash a EH03/EH09/EI20 gingerbread rom such as PWGB by CCampos, TSM Resurrection, or Superclean3 by Nitsuj17
Step 1: Download files from steps 1&2 in section:1 froyo guide(if you have not already).
Step 2: Download Atlas 2.2 pit file to pc:
http://www.multiupload.com/0H6IJQ27QM
Step 3: Download PowerWashed 2.3.4 eh09 rom package by Ccompos to your pc.
http://www.mediafire.com/?c37loxth85zn2ti
* You can also substitute Powerwashed for the stock eh03 rom and have the latest eh03 radio before upgrading to TSM Res. or Superclean3
http://www.multiupload.com/4LC6JFCSFD
Step 4: power off phone and pull battery.
Step 5: open odin on your computer.
Step 6: plug in factory usb cable and hold the volume down button. Yellow
triangle should appear saying "download mode".
Step 7: click on PDA in odin and find the PowerWashed eh09.tar(rom) or eh03 STOCK rom you downloaded to your computer in step 3.
Step 8: click on PIT in Odin and select the atlas 2.2 pit you downladed to pc in step 2.(make sure repartition is checked)
Step 9: click start and wait 5min, box in left hand corner of odin will say PASS, then click reset.
Step 10: unplug usb cable, put battery back in and boot phone.
I think this the process of Froyo to GB am I Right?
Now my question is should I follow Step 10 or till Step 20??

[Q] Newbie - help wit firmware SGS2 latest

Hi all,
I am aware that there are some other posts about newbie and firmware questions, but I guess since I upgraded to the latest firmware - hope it is okay to ask the question.
I have recently upgrade the Android to 2.3.4 XXKG6 - but now when I connect to Kies it says that the firmware is not upgrade-able. did I do something wrong?
What is the most stable, useable, efficient firmware available?
my phone is :
Model:GT-I9100
Android Version 2.3.4
BaseBand: I9100xxKG6
Kernel : 2.6.35.7-I9100KG6-CL425236
Build Number: GINGERBREAD .XXKG6
It will be much appreciated if I someone can point me to the right direction on how to do the installation and where I can get the files.
Thanks again
i think its saying not upgradeable as thats the latest software isnt it? i believe it is so it is simply saying there isnt any further update CURRENTLY
xxkg5 was the official firmware that is upgradeable with kies.
xxkg6 is a custom that is cooked here at xda.
Cooked firmware does not work with kies as it is not recognized that is why you have to use either odin or cwm.
There is a warning at the beginning of the xxkg6 thread that tells you that kies will not work after installation.
Kies will pretty much never upgrade you from an odin flashed firmware, most of the time it will not recognise it as a valid version due to mixing and matching files.
Though, by the time you are odin flashing you will have gotten fed up by how slow firmware updates come anyway
But yes, KG6 is the current "best" stock firmware available.
Thank you guys.
This is a steep learning curve for me at the moment so bare with me
So, currently I have the latest Custom Firmware, is this correct?
Another questions:
* when I use the ODIN to flash the firmware to KG6 the option of "repartition" is not ticked. Do I need to re-flash it again and "ticked" the repartition option?
is there any difference with the "Repartition" option ticked and NOT ticked?
Thanks again
Sometimes a flash may carry a file called a pit file.If so the re-partition box will be automatically checked otherwise never under any circumstances should you check that box if you are not using a pit file.If it is needed the instructions will let you know otherwise never. If you are on XXKG6 and all works fine there is no need to do anything else unless you want to flash a ROM or something. That's up to you.
Sorry to be a big pain here but I am wondering if it is possible to down grade / RESTORE to the original firmware I had? (incase I want to)
it was
Android version is 2.3.3
build number is z2KG2
kernel is 2.6.35.7-I9100
I should have asked this before I did anything else.
thanks again

I did the stock firmware as stated in the :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
What I did was downloaded the ZSKG2 firmware and using ODIN I flash the firmware. Is this way to do it to go back to official GingerBread 2.3.3?
I didn't do any Root processes.
Do I have to do the Kernel flash as stated in the tutorial? :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
My understanding is that I do not need to do the Kernel unless I want to do Root. am I correct?
*** Reason for trying to go back from 2.3.4 XXKG6 is because my WIFI signal does not look as strong as the 2.3.3 (let me know if this is incorrect)
Thanks
kernal flash is to bring to stock that mean it removes the root only.
firmwares do not change gingerbread versions from 2.3.3. to 2.3.4 or 2.3.4 to 2.3.3..
you need an offical carrier branded version that does a wipe of your phone.

Hi all,
I have restart My modem and and my Phone but my WIFI is not improving at all, I am just wondering if any one can help on how to put it back to my original firmware
Thanks
Your phone has gone into whats called a boot-loop.To get out of it enter into recovery mode (menu-volume up-power button) wipe cache, wipe cache repartion, factory reset and reboot system. If that doesnt work enter in download mode and repeat the full flash following word for word the instructions and repeat if needed the recovery wipe.
use this to wipe your device and return it 2.3.3, then upgrade back to xkg2.
XWKF1
This package has: PDA:XWKF1| PHONE: XXKE7| CSC:XEUKD1.
This will wipe your device so do a backup!
Download: http://www.multiupload.com/9OTQ8C6O5D
XWKF1 Stock Kernel: Use the ZSKF1 kernel, it's the same kernel.
THANK YOU ALL!!!
I got out of the boot loop using : recovery mode (menu-volume up-power button) wipe cache, wipe cache repartion, factory reset and reboot system
Thanks Cooza for the info. I got to 2.3.3 now
Now that I am back to starting point again. I would like to hear from you guys of the plus and minus of upgarding (which I should have asked in the first place)... I am learning the hard way...
Thank you for your generosity and patient explaining to me.
Thanks
Regards

Darky - Litening - help - newbie

Hi all,
Firstly I am a complete newbie so any step by step guide , pointer to the correct link or direction is so much appreciated.
My situation is:
I have SGS2 with:
Model Number: GT-I9100
Android Version : 2.3.3
Baseband Version: I9100xxKG1
Kernel 2.6..35.7-I9100ZSKG2-CL361136
Build number : GingerBread ZSKG2
1. I want to try either Litening Rom 6.1 or Darky ROM.
* Is this the correct Link to follow?
Darky: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1159920
Litening : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274
** Do I need to root the phone before installing the Litening ROM? or can I go ahead with my current spec and flash it with Litening ROM via ODIN?
2. I want to preserve my Current state of my Device before flashing with Darky or Litening.
* Is it possible to back up everything so I can return it to the way it is for Warranty purposes?
* or is it not possible to put back when we installed Darky or Litening?
3. Which one do you recommend Darky or Litening? - which one is less bug at this stage?
I am hoping that by flashing with the custom rom, it will make the device
- faster more efficient
- still able to get good GPS signal (or better)
- Good Wifi reception (or better)
- Good battery life (or better than now)
Please let me know if this is a false hope?
Thanks guys - sorry for the very basic questions.
Regards,
You should really have posted this in Q&A, it will get your question answered much quicker (and it will be in the right place as this thread has nothing to do with Android Development)
I think that litening is better , so all you need is download the rom extract de .tar file and put in PDA and flash via odin and your done, and u keep all u hav before litening dont need wipes

Thank you for the reply.
Will the Litening root my device?
If I want to keep my current device rom, kernel, etc... as a backup (for warranty purposes), Will this be possible?
If possible, which apps do I need to use and is there any tutorial for this process?
Thank you so much for the reply
Flash Litening with Odin (via PC). The process will root your device.
It's easy. There are guides in this forum.
If you need to go back to stock, download and flash original firmware. You can get it in this forum.
You may wanna buy/build a jig for resetting the custom binary counter as well, in case you need to send the phone to repair.

I found this link here:

is this the one I need to follow?
Do I need to install CWM separately?
can I directly flash directly from :
Model Number: GT-I9100
Android Version : 2.3.3
Baseband Version: I9100xxKG1
Kernel 2.6..35.7-I9100ZSKG2-CL361136

to Litening ROM 6.1??

ICS on Virgin / Bell Canadian S2?

Hello all,
Please be patient with me. I have some experience with the Galaxy tab and various custom firmwares on it - but I have not flashed new firmware yet on my brand new S2.
Now, since the official EU ICS is out, I would like to flash my S2.
Several people have done it, but the instructions are somewhat cryptic.
Could please someone post step by step instructions about how to do this?
Including: what files to use, what modem to use and also how to get this rooted?
Thank you in advance for the kindness of someone who has done this!
What's ROM you want have on your phone, stock or custom?

you read this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
it was pretty easy

[Q] Unroot S2 and install official ICS

I have a problem with my S2 phone.
Last week the official ICS was available in Norway, and I wanted to check it out.
But when I download it, it stops installing at 11%.
I have downloaded and installed the firmware for my phone, but still didn't work.
Anyone have had any similar problems with the new update?
Downloaded firmware from here

Hello arni3, maybe you chose the wrong firmware or did something wrong on the way.
Are you still able to enter download mode ?
If Yes, follow this tutorial on how to Unroot/unbrick your Galaxy S2 to ICS.
Link : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gixh_q6B_bU
If No, your phone is bricked. I suggest you bring it to Samsung.

Hello, thanks for your answer.
I have been watching that video now and it tells me to download ICS stock ROM. Is the stock ROM different from phone to phone or is it the same which one I get? I live in Norway, Europe.
Thanks!
1: if your phone says i9100 under battery, go get another rom i say la2/la4 and flash again using odin.
2: read again where to put the file.
3: if u got i9100G ur flashing wrong firmware. u need to fix that issue now.
all this if u can get download mode

Arni I live in Norway too and i think is that firmware that is maybe wrong ! How did u manage to unpack it anyway ? Tried 7zip and on my mac unzip, that archive has errors. odin refuses to accept it after md5 check. so something must be wrong there ...
downloaded it like 5 times. impossible to unpack with 7unzip in windows, only in mac it unzips but ..the rest is dead
