Hello all,
Please be patient with me. I have some experience with the Galaxy tab and various custom firmwares on it - but I have not flashed new firmware yet on my brand new S2.
Now, since the official EU ICS is out, I would like to flash my S2.
Several people have done it, but the instructions are somewhat cryptic.
Could please someone post step by step instructions about how to do this?
Including: what files to use, what modem to use and also how to get this rooted?
Thank you in advance for the kindness of someone who has done this!
What's ROM you want have on your phone, stock or custom?

But some widgets look a bit off (for example the widget where i can switch wifi etc. on/off). Is that how it should be?

K so I spent hours and hours on end and can;t figure this out what so ever. I am ready to throw my phone at the wall and even my laptop.
So what the problem is.
I have a Galaxy S2 GT-i9100m and I have no idea what kernel I have and I now have the yellow triangle, but I can get into download mode.
So what do I need? I want this dam phone back to original stock firmware. Like brand new. No CF no Root. I have looked at the threads and all the dam links are dead and everything links back to them.
I have no idea what to do. Please help. Its a bell galaxy S2 GT-i9100m but its unlocked and its on rogers now...technicaly.
please help asap! thnx
Search Sammobile.com for stock firmware & follow whatever instructions they have for flashing firmware downloaded from their site.
Already been there and they dont have a stock firmware for the gs2 for US or Canada. Everything is jamaican and mexico etc.

Multiupload = broken. Has been for ages now :-|
Edit to add - OP, I have a 'solution' for you. It won't give you the original firmware which came with your phone. But if you find/download the PC version of Checkfus (search for it on here/Google), this will enable you to download the latest firmware available for your phone model/carrier/country you'd normally get from Kies.
I just checked Checkfus, it tells me the latest firmware for your model/carrier/country is: I9100MUGKG2/I9100MBMCKG2/I9100MUGKG2/I9100MUGKG2, which may well be the original firmware given it says it was released on 13/7/2011.

exactly all those links are dead. I would of done that myself if it was that easy.
So I got the proper download and loaded it with odin and so far it looked good, but now I got the bootoop. Followed the instructions up above in the forum and trying it again and soo far so good. we will see what happens.
But if I am correct I just uploaded to the phone the .tar file, what about the .pit, .css files that need to be uploaded too??
To the best of my knowledge everything is in the tarball with stuff downloaded via Checkfus. Like the firmwares Intra used to have in his thread.

Bootloop after doing flash?
Go into recovery mode, factory reset & clear cache... Fixed.
As for pit files, you shouldn't EVER be using them on the SGS2. (this is the case for my unbranded international GT-I9100 anyway)

Hi there,
Am on a Nexus S, but just got my son an S2 thats got Ginger Bread. The base band of the phone is I9100XXKI4. Can some one please tell me:
a) if an official update to ICS is available?
b) if yes, how do I get it?
c) if no, which is the easiest and safest way to root the phone to have an ICS ROM? Have read a little and the thing is that some write ups makes me fear the odin. Is there some other way? Is the odin route safe? Is the root retained?
Thanks
Yes Odin is safe
Yes official ics is out, but it's not like what you have it's like what he already has.
You have to flash cm9 to get pure ics look and feel.
Read how to use Odin, cwm and cfroot. those three things will get you there.

odin is your only way to root your mobile without proplems , just read the instructions carfully and all will be fine
these are the official updates, but they dont have Arabic
Samsung ICS Official Rom's
How to flash.
- Open ODIN.
- Select CODE / MODEM / CSC.
- Put phone in download mode. (HOME - VOLUMN DOWN - LOCK)
- Connect phone with cable. Push start (Wait till phone reboot on Android start screen!)
for a custom rom i insist you use (include full arabic) d4-rom or hydrog3n
if you want to use a custom you must first get cwm
to do this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1103399
this is where you can download it plus the guide to install it
- Unzip the attached CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.zip
- (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
- Start ODIN
- Click the PDA button, and select CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.tar
- Put your phone in download mode
- (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
- Make sure repartition is NOT checked
- Click the START button
- Wait for the phone to reboot

Hey Guys,
Thanks for all those replies Will read how to use Odin, cwm and cfroot.
Am based in Kuwait, but will not be needing Arabic, so I guess I get more options I guess
I have a friend who wants to upgrade his SII phone from Stock GB to Stock ICS (India Version).
Am pretty familiar with some basic stuff of download mode and Odin and other tools.
Would really appreciate if someone can provide me the link for latest stock ICS in India and the steps.
Please correct me on the steps
1. Download the ROM and save it on the PC.
2. Open PC Odin and direct the downloaded file to PDA
3. Put the SII in Download mode and then connect it to the PC
4. Wait for the Yellow color on the first block and then hit Next.
5. N'joy ICS
Please let me know if am missing something.
I know of some eMMC bug on Note which i presently use. Do we have similar issue here too.
Please give me some info so i can help my friend.
Thanks in advance

well that procedure is correct.
but would suggest u to dwnld a latest 4.0.3 firmaware instead of 4.0.4 ones and see, since they do not have this emmc bug for sure
The emmc bug is present only in ICS 4.0.4. Anything lower than that version is safe.
Also, its better to perform a factory reset from the recovery after flashing the firmware to prevent the phone from bootlooping. Good luck

Nope, u have to use Odin and load the file(s) u extract from the downloaded zip into it.
Then u must connect phone to PC and flash this.
But I recomment to read a bit more on XDA and at least search for it, before u start flashing.

.....what a quick response..... thanks
What option should I choose?
Bootloader
PDA
Phone (I guess)
CSC
Or something else?
Cheers
If it's a single file, PDA. As previously advised, Guides have everything you need to know. We're not going to regurgitate every little detail because it's been done thousands of times before.

That's what I meant with - u should read a bit before.
But just a quick guide:
If u have only one file in this zip, just load it into PDA > connect phone (download moda) > flash.
If u have 3 or more in it, u have to load pda into PDA, phone into PHONE and csc into CSC > connect phone (download mode) > flash.
For a more infos please read first!!
A full guide u find for example here
Much success

Thanks, it is not problem in regurgitating every little detail, the problem is in finding the right solution.
For example, if I knew that I will delete original kernel from samsung, I would not root my samsung, but you learn as you go.
Internet is getting bigger and finding the right info is the hardest part.
thanks for the link.

If you're flashing a Samsung rom then you'll obviously have Samsung kernel after flash.
If you want another kernel then flash it afterwards via ODIN.
Hi all
I've had a custom root and rom on my s2
I've since reset and odined a new rom into it that didn't seem to work (boot looped) so I installed what I thought was a stock one vod uk)
Anyway, this hasn't worked as it now gets stuck booting on the s2 screen
Not sure what to do... my root (0yellow triangle) has disappeared so I can't install a custom rom and I don't know the csc (or whatever it It is) as I'm guessing the stock rom I put on was not exactly the same as the one that came on it originally?
Bit confused how I get it back now
Thanks

To help you out more information is needed - exact phone type, what was your previous ROM, what ROM you flashed, etc..
Can you go to Download Mode? (home + power + volume down)
If you can, download the right ROM and flash it with Odin.

Still unclear what is your phone model. Is it I9100, I9100G or even HD LTE?
According to this you must choose a proper ROM for your device. If it`s wrong you will get soft brick.

Hi
It's gt i9100
Can you point me in the direction of a rom that will work? Do I need to find a way of clearing the cache as well or should a simple reinstall fix it?
Thank you
Go to sammobile and get a stock rom from there......fill in the 4 boxes to pinpoint which ones you can try.Avoid the 4.0.4 one lol.
Then read tutorial about using odin properly on here.
