GSM has been unlocked on sprint branded Photon 4g! - Motorola Photon 4G

Special thanks to Miniassasin23 for doing the testing. I don't have a sim card to test with, and when i test my stuff it often results in my devices being inoperable for long periods of time, and they normally aren't spares either. Utter chaos....

That is the correspondence, post the pictures in a reply to this thread if you want Miniassasin I'd like to see them. Once again thanks, and I'll send you what should be a much more stable kernel that I built last night as soon as you give me an e-mail.
What does this mean now? For anyone who has been wanting to jump ship with their photon, it means you should soon be able to. An alpha release will be posted as soon as I pump a build out that I feel is stable enough (and works well enough) to responsibly distribute. I did a build last night that is untested currently, so if it tests well, the alpha release could be available within 24-48 hours on these boards.
The recommended release will be more for the devs then for the users as it will basically be a demonstration that the GSM code has been isolated and is portable, mine will be the latest stock kernel with GSM unlocked, but I intend to release it with a patch for devs to use to add that functionality to any of their non-stock kernels.

Do you have any proof other then a forum post?
This looks like pure troll.

I can test ..I have an att sim card not activated and I'm on cm7.let me know
I also have a T-Mobile sim card not activated

just release what you have put together so the rest of the devs can collaborate and work together.. many can/will test this and help you debug it.

yes, maybe we'll get some of our lost members back like kennypow3rs to return.

if there are no builds, code, source, or SOMETHING posted up for us to test before morning, I'm reporting this as trolololol.

while i havent seen his work firsthand, i can vouch that hes posted around on the forums asking about kernel source, and been in the irc channel talking to me about stuff.....
but i do agree that the release thread shoulda been in dev section while this... shoulda been general

Well here's a photo I think

i am willing to test i have both tmobile and at&t activated sim cards

Congrats on this, I have official sprint documents stating the radio is blocking us carriers. So once this is out that is great. Also we need some github love on this so I can spread that code to every project.

Awesome news, but do try to release source as soon as possible, I'm sure Joker and other devs here wouldn't mind helping out or at least taking a look.

So you need to be on CM7 or CM9 to get this working???
I' friggin confused.

You should really take another one and blip or blur your IMEI tho bro. You don't want that falling into the wrong hands if you know what I mean. User or network administrator alike...

Good to know. Now I can get out of Sprint contact, and keep my MoPho.
With HSPA+, I won't even care about Wimax being unlocked as it's just as fast.
So does this flash the radios or something that needs to be implemented into every ROM?

If it will really work. Ussd codes and other gsm services, i`ll go back to photon stock rom, it the best i think

Man I hope this is the real deal

[Q] asop or stock gb

anyone working on a stock gb or asop rom for this device?
I use go launcher and it is a lot better than the samsung touchwiz default launcher. the other samsung touchwiz items do not bother me
That actually has nothing to do with what the thread was created for.
Give it time, people will start to develop for this phone as time passes
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA
I doubt anyone will bother with AOSP GB, most people seem to be waiting to do ICS roms, which is what this device should have come with anyway.
Most will be waiting to dev ics? That's honestly the most bs answer I've ever received on this site in my life. That's like saying they are going to develop yellow snow in hell but waiting for it to snow....

Assume what you will, but if I were a developer and I had any inkling that an OS update was on the horizon for the phone I'm using, I'd probably opt to not develop for an OS that will be obsolete, since it's likely that no one would even use the ROM once ICS is out.
In other words, if I were a developer, I'd wait for ICS too.

Am i wrong in saying that lol
Rom devs need source code to work from.
Alot of what you see going on right now is piddly because without source code, not much can be done (based on my limited understanding of how this all works).
Not to discount the one or two roms out there now, its a good start but Samsung needs to give up the goods.

I honestly wish someone would put out a cm7 version for our notes to gives us something better than stock at least until ics comes out, not saying that saurom and tpc aren't nice and trust me I'm pretty happy with saurom rom in my note, but coming from my htc hd2 that had dozens of roms to choose from , and coming from cm9 before I got my note , kinda leaves me hoping for just a bit more rom developing that we have at the moment, if I didnt work 50+ hours a week and had kids to take care of I would take a crack at my own rom but just don't have the time for that level of development.

Listing of ICS based ROMS CDMA/GSM

ICS has not been officially released, but please read this topic
1. Yes, ICS was announced for Evo 3D GSM and Evo 3D CDMA.
2. No, it was not released yet.
3. Stop asking HTC when they release it. Nobody knows.
4. Stop blaming HTC, Sprint and any other provider. It's not their fault. They have a lot of phones. Everybody wants ICS. It's called project management. Everything is set according to a project timeline.
5. Meanwhile, you can try some ICS here:

Again: stop posting your emails from HTC. We know that ICS will come. Nobody knows when it will come.
Romania??? Your English is better than most Americans who post on here. LOL! Good job on the thread. I've resigned myself to the same fact...it'll drop when it drops and no amount of emails or posts are going to change a thing. They know we're waiting. Hell, the Galaxy Nexus has been advertised for months on Sprint's website and still hasn't dropped. It is what it is...
OP Your a Douche bag!
The reason for delay is a complete marketing strategy. they want you to pay attention to their HTC One. (Do the math: more sale for htc and more contracts for sprint).
Persoanlly I am not going to upgrade to the HTC One, if they drop ICS for the Evo3D. It is not that a big move from Evo 3D to One.

Well I guess it is the latter...
Everyone is looking forward to getting an ics update. Some sit tightly... waiting, enjoying the cream of GB roms; some start unuseful threads like this here...
Only reason for me to write this post is obviously to gain some thanks from the opposite camp and to say my part about this ics-hype-mess that keeps piling on theese days at ridiculous rate . Again..one way or another, imho this thread is same junk as any other "Ics will come in shortly!!!" thread. Howg

With respect, you could make that video in 'almost' ANY country. It's easier in America as there are a LOT more people to pick from. And let's not forget that America came from pretty much every country anyway.
Now, back on topic, I agree with the OP. I also notice a lot of the slagging off is coming from really low posters, likely with nothing much to contribute, but lots to take. Think before you post if you want to be part of the community. If you are actively abusive, the community breaks down, and you have LESS to gain. Be polite, and contribute.... you will have MORE to gain.
This threads needs to be stickied... and all the posts below the OP's deleted.

In fact, I'm about to post one right now!
The Evo 3D section of XDA has to be the worst of the worst.
Perhaps it would help to get a dedicated ICS info thread like in the O2X section?
And please stop with the personal attacks, you only detract from yourselves.

How is the development? Might trade for my HTC One X.

Right now the HTC one x development is pretty slow, and while I do have a great ROM I always love getting new devices and flashing new ROMs. I love having a lot of ROMs to cater to my flash addiction. Is this phones development going to last awhile? I know there will be a new note that will come up soon, and I don't want to be left behind. Has anybody don't this switch? Or has anybody played with body devices and can give some pros and cons? Thanks!

We are just getting our feet wet on the note.
And the note 2 will bring ported content back for us also, including the X....
I'm staying here.....g
The development on the note is fantastic (JellyBean is 99% bug-free with h0tw1r3's CM10 kang and we have CM9, MIUI, Paranoid Android, AOKP and many other ROMs actively under development.

Greg hit the mark with his reply, the note is a unique beast externally but all of Samsungs high end lte line of phones are fundamentally the same internally. This bodes well for an extended development cycle.
One quick question about the HTC One X. Samsung has been pretty good with source code releases, what is the current experience with HTC? Do you find them forth coming with source code and drivers. If that has been the case, what other factor(s) do you think could account for the HTCs One X lackluster rom development?
The hardware your phone carries is high end, impressive specs; I would have thought developers were all over it.

We waited about 2 months to finally get a source code released. During this time period all members of the HOX community were sending ATT emails and constantly bombing their facebook mostly for the fact that our Bootloader was locked, and HTC stated they will provide official Bootloader unlocks on every phone they will release. Well HTC still hasn't kept up their promise and for new comers it's very hard to join the dev community because with the recent update there is no bootloader or root exploit. With the recent source code release I would like to think that development would be booming but I'm completely wrong. The code we got released wasn't even a full source code, but instead half. And to make matters worse it's already outdated, because the source that was released was 4.0.3 and we are on 4.0.4 now. The only bugs that we have been able to fix with the source code is Multi-touch on AOKP roms (thank god it really borked gaming on this device :good: ) We have one kernel that is released but it's not able to be used on a lot of ROM's because it's set on the old base, but everybody is on 4.0.4 now. The dev's are really working hard on making this phone the best they can, but HTC is making it very very difficult. The international version has a lot of dev support because of how powerful this phone can be. But I guess ATT is behind keeping back the updated source and an official BL unlock which makes me mad
The phone itself though is great. The screen is spectacular and I'd even go as far to say it's the best I've seen on a mobile device. The processor is very quick, and when I did have it overclocked to 2.1 ghz it reacted very well and I still got excellent battery life. My average battery life right now is about 3 hours of screen on time. I'm on CM9 ATM because it's the best vanilla experience we have. Hopefully that answers all your questions guys!

Could the reson HTC is reluctant to release the source code for T-Mobile a result of our phones being able to work on AT&Twith full 4G? I mean I don't know anything about the source code and how it all works but in my mind I am thinking there is something in the code that if found and exploited , would allow our phones to run on AT&T whithout thier sim cards.

This device can already run on their network with full hspa+ without that, just that AT&T doesn't have a 42mbps network so the speeds aren't as impressive, if this device had lte, then that would be another story.

I personally never saw any feature or capability difference across the various provider stock roms and I'm yet to hear any user complain about losing features after switching to TMO based roms, so I don't get why we specifically need Tmo source when we have the source for all the other providers, does tmo get the missing drivers that we still seem to be missing? They didn't last source release, so my hope is somewhat feign on us getting it this time, though I am keeping my fingers crossed.

We know. HTC released it for other carriers. That is the point of this thread.
the other 4.0 source codes for sensation and one series as well were released too (t-mobile of course). is that any help for our amaze?
And there is something strange.. I think all new sources are identical as their links are all the same link.. And if there is any difference between them, it must be between the telus one and the others. I'll download and look for any difference.
sorry shoulda posted this to its own thread someone pointed out the source in the 'new approach to get htc to listen' the other day...
what i said over there:
they all appear to have the same file name and come from the same folder on the web server, yet they have different version numbers displayed on the page.. is this some trickery of the web server serving up the files from a temp location or are they actually all the exact same file..
ran comp at command prompt on two of them and they appear to be the same.. thats.. odd isn't it?

Because it was not fully developed yet. I sent @invisiblek a VK810 to get CM12 going on this device and he/we were trying to work out some of the remaining issues before posting it. Life got too busy for me so had very little time to work on the vk810. @invisiblek basically got this going himself. Hoping to have radio issue resolved next time I get a chance to play on this.

I'm not trying to start anything here. I kind of assumed everyone knew that the CM12.1 repos were InvisibleK's. Forked from NGVincent's github, which was forked from upstream CM11 V500 official. I'm not trying to take credit for anyone else's work. I'm just trying to get the ROM into people's hands. That's how open source works. you write something, you release it. But the average user (yes, even here on XDA) does not use Linux, much less knows how to build a ROM. It's not like i'm trying to take credit for anyone else's work
Thanks goes out to everyone else who worked on this, PaperWastage, CyanogenMod Team, TheRodeWarrior, DrGravy, etc. and anyone else I've missed.

I'm sorry if I misunderstood, but with the amount of work InvisibleK does for CM, I assumed he was part of CM Team. I'm sorry if this is not the case.
As we are all aware, GPS and 4G do not work due to some issues with the RIL. I've looked into it. NGVincent looked into it. InivisibleK looked into it. nobody has it working because the modem is a proprietary blob that no other CM supported device uses (except for the Droid Maxx HD, but it uses the CDMA side so still not of much use to us). To be completely honest, I doubt it's ever going to get fixed until some other pure LTE device that uses the msm8960 gets a GooglePlay Edition. either that, or someone with a whole lot more free time and talent than any of us have sits down and reverse engineers the RIL from the stock ROM. Probably not gonna happen...
The fact of the matter is, that while having working data would be nice (and certainly the last major hurdle to get over before official CM status can be achieved), it's hardly a deal breaker. To be honest, on my tablet I could care less. I only ever use it in places I have WiFi anyway (work/home). We've been using a 4G-less CM11 ROM for at least as long as I've been developing for this tablet, and nobody seemed to have any complaints about it. Only positive things to say.
and for the record, it's come to my attention that semi-nightly builds are available here at http://www.invisiblek.org/roms/cm-12.1/vk810/
