It's not clear to me why some people had a successful webOS 3.0.5 update with Android installed, others didn't. And some people even had stock Touchpads which have problems now after the update? Wow!
If I'm on 3.0.4 with XRON 2.9 installed; what is it I have to do in order to successfully update without having to wipe everything and start anew?
I've read this thread two or three times, plus this other thread, which seems to be ONLY for people who had a failed update, and I'm not entirely sure.
Can someone help with a 1,2,3 kind of scenario?
Thanks!
Well, it seems so far(that I have noticed) that the update will fail if you are using moboot 0.3.3 or 0.3.4. Follow this, and all should be good.
1.) Make a nandroid backup of your android in CWM
2.) Make a backup of webOS(Launcher>Settings>Backup
3.) Make sure you have moboot 0.3.5
4.) Click System Updates in webOS and let it download.
5.) Once finished, try to install.
6.A) Based on my observations, it should install fine.
6.B) If for some reason it doesn't work, that's ok, because you have backed up everything. Follow standard procedure for removing android, and getting webOS back to stock, and install everything(moboot, cwm, android). Then once everything is back, restore your backups.

FWIW, I did the update yesterday without any major issues.
Prior to the update I had CM7 A3.5 installed and WebOS 3.04. My moboot was still on 0.3.3 as I had never updated it since my initial Android install.
I did the update in WebOS and let it do its thing for a while. When I rebooted the only difference was the bootloader was gone and it would just boot straight into WebOS 3.0.5.
I reinstalled Moboot (0.3.5 this time) and then booted back up into Android and all was fine. I hadn't backed anything up and I hadn't lost anything.
Of course, as always, YMMV.
I was on moboot 0.33 and webos 3.02 and the ota update locked into a boot loop.
Just had to doctor and re-acme CWM, CM7.1 and moboot before restoring my nandroid backup.

Thanks guys; I just rebooted to see the menu, and indeed I have the lastest MoBoot (0.3.5). So I am going to back everything up and do this tomorrow.
Thanks for taking the confusion away. I love XDA, but let's be honest, there is so much information, so many threads with thousands of posts, that the whole thing becomes impossible to digest.
Too much information is sometimes worse than having not enough information!

Good luck bud. Just be sure to back up both as I stated just in case the install doesn't work.

not to add more confusion to this, but I upgraded without any trouble and I later found out I'm on moboot 3.3. once the upgrade was done I shut off the tp and when I restarted it went straight into moboot. So I'm not sure the moboot version is the critical factor here.
As long as you backup both webos and android I think you should be fine. Although I might ask if you still use webos enough to bother. I didn't see a whole lot new but I didn't spent much time on it.
I failed twice updating, restored palm kernels removed all preware patches and success. Moboot 3.0.4, xron 2.9 were untouched.

Well I backed-up everything and did the update. It seems to have worked.
I did get a couple of random reboots, but I got those before. Not sure if the reboots are due to the update or not.

okay, so i tried to install CM7 test build 8 onto my phone. the install got up till checking BML/MTD and then failed. i was already on test build 7.
anyhows, clockwork said the rom failed to install and then rebooted. now the phone is stuck in a loop of booting into clockwork and then aborting an install.
i would normally have just started up ODIN and flashed down to stock DJ05 or EB01 and then do the lovely root process; but alas i sent my PC into HP today for repair and stuck using a Macbook for a week or two. (no one else in my family uses PC anymore; iPad and Mac family now...sigh)
does anyone know of a way to fix this? i'd like to avoid going back to my old droid 1 (so laggy).
Dude.. this goes in either the thread for that rom or the Q&A section. You might get quicker responses when posting correctly.
Good luck.
Sry, thanks for the help though

I know it sounds odd but pull the battery and then do the three finger salute. I know we aren't supposed to but trying to wipe through there and then install has helped a couple of us with this problem on miui. I did it and when it finally installed right I rebooted into recovery the proper way and wiped. Worked like a charm.
Hope this helps, brother.

I Agree with Tim. Three finger method and reflash CM7 Build number 7 (after wiping of course) Then try build 8 again. You will lose settings and data. Hopefully you backed up beforehand but if you're stuck in a bootloop it's a moot point. Hope this helps.

have done this twice. after install number 7 restart and reboot recovery and you will see your back to the orange cwm and good to go with number 8 install. wipe delvik
Quickest way back is to use the EB01 install package that is linked in the stickied thread about returning to to a TW ROM after running. Apparently the two ROMs Linked (Eclair and Froyo) have the right bootloader to work with the PIT file. Anyway that's what it says in the thread.
Flash EB01 (with atlas PIT). Flash a 3.x CWM and then try the CM7 procedure. No need for OTA updates or voodoo and/or lag fix, root, etc. Just plain ol stock EB01. This worked for me last night. I have not used the phone a lot since then but so far its been working OK.
He can't do that without odin brother..

try using virtualbox and install xp. it'd be your best bet. not sure if you'll run into driver issues, should work fine. if you need an XP install let me know, i have an iso on my server that needs 0 activation and should get you by.
you can try a linux live cd and then heimdall
I couldnt post this there, so im posting it here
I've flashed 2 other versions of this rom successfully in the past. The only difference is this time is factory reset it first. Then attempted to flash the rom. the Rom gave me an error, and thats when the bootlooping started.
I tried factory resetting, deleting cache, leaving battery out for 30 seconds.
Im stuck at the Moto screen
SO, what do i do? is there any pertinent information im leaving out?

You could also try plugging the phone into a wall when its off to see if you can get into BSR and either restore a backup or try to flash again.

It IS a bit of a process to go thorough. Part of the price to pay if you're gonna modify, I guess. If the suggestion above about trying the BSR program (Bootstrap Recovery program, also called "System Recovery" in app drawer) doesn't work for you, then SBF to stock, which should get you back live, then flash P3 rooted Gingerbread, then Eclipse. That will work. All the links with instructions and downloads have been graciously provided here by our Moderator, The Clown.
As you already know, Eclipse has loaded fairly easily in the past, and wiping data is the recommended procedure. While not absolutly necessary, it has helped others resolve problems they had after loading Eclipse in the past, so I wouldn't be afraid to do it. It's hard for anyone to say for sure why this happened to you this time. The process is a bit touchy, reqireing you to follow the instructions exactly - including, for example, plugging in the phone to a wall charger while using the System Recovery program. Perhaps you inadvertently left out some step along the way.
I dont THINK i did, but hey, i wouldnt doubt it.
Anywho, just for an update, im now pre-rooted GB, waiting for nitro to update the eclipse rom.

Since the "Buttery Biscuit" rom is still in development, which is better, Classicnerd_SE or Classicnerd_ICS_Buttah? I am currently running SE and it is quite amazing! I'm. Just looking for some input while I anxiously await the official release. Thanks guys!
And if you haven't checked out classicnerd yet, DO IT!!
Flashed Buttah earlier. Superuser works correctly now. Seems smoother than SE. CPUtuner works correctly on buttah as well.
Thanks for the reply! It took a great deal of work, but I finally got SE to work for me last night. It seems that I have the Buttah zip installed as well because when moboot comes up I have an option to boot Classicnerd and an option to boot ICS, but no matter which one I choose, my "about phone" screen always shows SE. Its weird in my opinion, but it works and that's all I care about.

The correct entry is Classicnerd. I don't think running from the ICS entry will cause you any problems but you may want to clean it out so future updates have the space they need on the /boot partition.
I am on SE, and it is quite smooth. I probably won't upgrade until the KY edition drops.

I agree, you definitely need to form your own opinions, but sometimes I like to know what others think as well.
I've been following both the XRON and classicnerd threads pretty much since they started...
The "SE" build was a preview originally put together for a closed test team, and came before the "Buttah" version which was offered in the open (although still alpha status, even though they put it into a "beta" directory).
They're both made by the same team from the same sources. Buttah should be more polished (and from what everyone is saying in the dev thread, it sounds phenomenal already).
I'm waiting 'til it comes out of alpha before I switch away from 2.9.1, but I'm definitely drooling over what I've read.
I have tried all four classic nerd ics versions and buttah is the first one that has my touch pad charging quickly and battery life is very good.

oh man you're missing out! ics buttah is sooo silky smooth and pretty much stable (minus the major problem all ics roms have). the major difference between SE and buttah is the charger fix. my TP now charges when I use it while it's plugged in. before it would keep on running down
if you do decide to update from SE to buttah remember to wipe data, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik cache several times before flashing on. also i would run the remove moboot entries just to be sure

Sweet Buttah!
I flashed Buttah about an hour ago. This is really, really nice and smooth. Amazing for an alpha software version.
A few things not working on my tablet:
Headphone audio
Dolphin HD browser crashes when trying to play Flash video
That's it so far.
If you are moving from a cm from there is no need for acme uninstall just do factory reset and wipe cache. Do this at least 3 times (just to be safe) and then flash the from and gapps from clockwork mod.

I was finally able to get Buttah to install last night via CWM by downloading the .zip straight to the touch pad instead of transferring from my PC. In the spirit of the Xron roms, I decided to try installing it as an "overlay" to the SE rom and so far I haven't had any issues. I had to reflash the gapps, but I was expecting that. Now in my Moboot I only have an option for Classicnerd and no ICS option.

Hi everyone. My first official thread on here...althought I have been lurking for quite some time. Here is my issue.
I've done the 3 mods in the development forum to increase 3g data speeds. The two edits worked well but when I went in and replaced my lib_motoril.so file, now all of a sudden my phone is stuck at the boot logo/android recovery. I can get into BSR but after about 10 seconds of being in trying to navigate to my cm7 zip, it just reboots to the android recovery. I'm trying to avoid a complete wipe so I tried renamed my cm7 to update.zip and tried running that from android recovery but it won't let it run. ANY help is appreciated. If I must, I will wipe data but as I said, I am trying to avoid that. Thanks!

IMHO CM7 needs nothing but a user....
I would back-up all your stuff, Titanium Backup is great... then SBF back to 2.3.4
There is nothing better then a clean slate, plus it only takes under an hour to SBF,root, install BSR, flash cm7...etc
Did you make a NANDdroid back up before you flashed these custom scripts/mods? That is usually the biggest mistake anyone can make...If you did great, now see if you can restore to that point
Hope the best for ya, hope ya Nandroided before flashing, and if anything just sbf

But my speeds were testing before it crashed (with mods 1 and 3 of the thread) and they were still 4x what they were before at full strength. I will admit, after the fresh install, they were even a little higher but the speeds hang out right around 2.5 Mpbs down and 1 Mbps up. Actual downloads, a 12 megabyte file took 10 seconds to download. So still, not too shabby. I'm going to download the 90mb CM7 zip and see how long it takes....

It's so easy. In Airplane mode del the 2 files in the throttle folder. Then change perms of the throttle folder to r-x------. Reboot. Undo AP mode.
Regarding dragonzkiller's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1912280 on [ROM][ALPHA][JB]CyanogenMod 10 Alpha 3 for the Droid X2. I've rooted two devices, the OG Droid and my X2 so I'm not unfamiliar with the process but some of the items I need to get CM 10 on my X2 I'm not sure where to find. In the article it's said I need the following:
-Install the BSR (patched if on an AOSP based ROM, unpatched if on BLUR)
-Reboot into the BSR
-NANDROID
Where can I find BSR and NANDROID? I have Rom Manager and Titanium Backup Pro on my X2 currently. Rom Manager never reboots into recovery for me for some reason and TB Pro does but I don't see an option to select NANDROID.
Any help would be really appreciated! I'm tried of running 2.3.5 all this time.
Dont use ROM manager for that kind of stuff. Best not to use it at all with the Droid X2 actually. The BSR IS the recovery for the X2. It can be found in the CM7 thread. And a nandroid is just a backup of your ROM that you make yourself within the recovery. Its not a file provided. Its a good idea to backup your ROM before installing stuff. That way you can restore it if things go wrong.

Good to know on Rom Manager, never has worked right.
I'll go look in the CM7 thread for the BSR, now that you say what it is I might actually have that somewhere after reading when it initially became available.
So if TB Pro can get me into recovery what else do so I can do a nandroid backup? I don't see an option to do that?

You are probably booting into the stock recovery, which doesnt have that option. You need to install the custom recovery (BSR) to do that.

Yes, get it from the CM7 thread. Just install it like you would install an app from your SD card. Its the same thing. Use a file browser app and navigate to the apk file then tap it. It will walk you through the rest. Once you have it installed you will have the app in your app drawer called system recovery or something like that. Open it and follow the directions to get into BSR. You have to have your phone plugged into an outlet though. Even though it says plug your phone into nothing. If your are on CM10, you need a file called hijack.zip and will have to place that in a certain location before using BSR. Check out the CM10 thread. The last few posts were talking about that. And the file was posted on the last page. I hope I'm not forgetting anything.

And the file was posted on the last page. I hope I'm not forgetting anything.

I'm sorry to ask more questions but I'm finally ready to update and I'm getting an error. First thing I'm wondering is this is one of those things where I have to be on 2.3.4? I'm on 2.3.5.
The error is:
assert failed: run_program("/tmp/check_kernel") == 0
E:Error in /sdcard/cm10.zip
(Status 7)
Are you running CM on your X2? Why is there so little available for the X2?

I had a feeling you'd say that. Well, know what I need to do now.
Thanks again for all the assistance on this! I should be on my way now.

Well I'm here again asking/begging for assistance. I've been trying all afternoon to get back to 2.3.4 without no luck. Each time I use the CW7 recovery to apply the older ROM it just sits on installing. I'm at a loss, I've even factory reset the thing.

Got to 2.3.4 finally but trying CM10 or the new AOKP build 6 I keep getting messages about signature verification failed. I feel like I'm so close! If I could just get past this latest error.
you flash SBFs with rsd lite
or use ezSBF
if on stock 2.3.4, install bsr/system recovery not cm7 bsr
once rom is installed use cm7 bsr
watch tomsgt's videos

I should have wrote back last night but it got late, I think I ended up at the same result as you posted. That's again, I think I finally got a handle on this.
Hey there me again. It's there an equivalent of the CM7 bsr for CM10?
use cm7 bsr

I tried that, never seems to boot into it. I get it installed and says it was successful but when I hit boot into recovery it just goes to the Motorola screen and freezes.
normally even using reg bar on stock
I connect charger after phone has shut down

Wish I could say I wasn't plugging in as well but I am. So basically it should be working for me but it's not.
