[Q] Question on items needed to change to CM 10 - Motorola Droid X2

Regarding dragonzkiller's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1912280 on [ROM][ALPHA][JB]CyanogenMod 10 Alpha 3 for the Droid X2. I've rooted two devices, the OG Droid and my X2 so I'm not unfamiliar with the process but some of the items I need to get CM 10 on my X2 I'm not sure where to find. In the article it's said I need the following:
-Install the BSR (patched if on an AOSP based ROM, unpatched if on BLUR)
-Reboot into the BSR
-NANDROID
Where can I find BSR and NANDROID? I have Rom Manager and Titanium Backup Pro on my X2 currently. Rom Manager never reboots into recovery for me for some reason and TB Pro does but I don't see an option to select NANDROID.
Any help would be really appreciated! I'm tried of running 2.3.5 all this time.

Dont use ROM manager for that kind of stuff. Best not to use it at all with the Droid X2 actually. The BSR IS the recovery for the X2. It can be found in the CM7 thread. And a nandroid is just a backup of your ROM that you make yourself within the recovery. Its not a file provided. Its a good idea to backup your ROM before installing stuff. That way you can restore it if things go wrong.

Thank you for the reply jsgraphicart.
Good to know on Rom Manager, never has worked right.
I'll go look in the CM7 thread for the BSR, now that you say what it is I might actually have that somewhere after reading when it initially became available.
So if TB Pro can get me into recovery what else do so I can do a nandroid backup? I don't see an option to do that?

You are probably booting into the stock recovery, which doesnt have that option. You need to install the custom recovery (BSR) to do that.

And I get the BSR from the CM 7 thread correct? Once I have that file how do I get that installed and does it wipe my phone before I get a chance to save it as is?
Thank you for your patience and help by the way!

Yes, get it from the CM7 thread. Just install it like you would install an app from your SD card. Its the same thing. Use a file browser app and navigate to the apk file then tap it. It will walk you through the rest. Once you have it installed you will have the app in your app drawer called system recovery or something like that. Open it and follow the directions to get into BSR. You have to have your phone plugged into an outlet though. Even though it says plug your phone into nothing. If your are on CM10, you need a file called hijack.zip and will have to place that in a certain location before using BSR. Check out the CM10 thread. The last few posts were talking about that. And the file was posted on the last page. I hope I'm not forgetting anything.

I'm sorry to ask more questions but I'm finally ready to update and I'm getting an error. First thing I'm wondering is this is one of those things where I have to be on 2.3.4? I'm on 2.3.5.
The error is:
assert failed: run_program("/tmp/check_kernel") == 0
E:Error in /sdcard/cm10.zip
(Status 7)
Are you running CM on your X2? Why is there so little available for the X2?

Well I'm here again asking/begging for assistance. I've been trying all afternoon to get back to 2.3.4 without no luck. Each time I use the CW7 recovery to apply the older ROM it just sits on installing. I'm at a loss, I've even factory reset the thing.

Got to 2.3.4 finally but trying CM10 or the new AOKP build 6 I keep getting messages about signature verification failed. I feel like I'm so close! If I could just get past this latest error.

you flash SBFs with rsd lite
or use ezSBF
if on stock 2.3.4, install bsr/system recovery not cm7 bsr
once rom is installed use cm7 bsr

I should have wrote back last night but it got late, I think I ended up at the same result as you posted. That's again, I think I finally got a handle on this.

Hey there me again. It's there an equivalent of the CM7 bsr for CM10?

use cm7 bsr

I tried that, never seems to boot into it. I get it installed and says it was successful but when I hit boot into recovery it just goes to the Motorola screen and freezes.

Wish I could say I wasn't plugging in as well but I am. So basically it should be working for me but it's not.

Problems with Rom Manager after rooting 2.3.4

I uped my X2 2.3.4 SBF and that seemed to go OK. Then I did the one-step rooting by Pete'sMotorolaRootTools and that was successful. Then I ran the MOTODX2_bootstrap_signed and that seemed to go OK. Then I ran Rom Manager (it did ask for root, I clicked yes) and clicked "Flash Clockworkmod Recovery" and it downloaded OK. I rebooted the phone. I then went back in to Rom Manager and tried to do a backup of current rom, I entered the name and then it rebooted, but did not do the backup, it just came back up to the phone like a normal reboot. Then I powered off and back on and held down the down volume, I went to Android recovery, but it was not Clockwork, just the default I guess. Also "Flash Alternate Recovery" is greyed out. I have the paid version of Rom Manager. Any ideas?
Rom Manager doesn't work for our phone...use the recovery flashing app found in the development forum. Pretty sure it's in the thread about SBF'ing to Froyo and then updating to GB
ROM manager doesn't support the x2 yet AFAIK
[sent from my blurless DX2]
Well that sucks. There is even a link to a Droid X2 version for clockworkmod on his site!? recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.5-daytona.zip, but that didn't work either.
Well I retried the MOTODX2_bootstrap_signed and that worked the 2nd time around for some reason. So now I'm able to boot in to a recovery menu that gives me Backup & Restore and other options, so I guess that good enough.
Just sucks that I paid for Rom Manager when I had it on my Incredible, hopefully it wont take to long until it's ready for the X2.
Omg... This has been cleared up like 10 times........ He is testing with this.. Rusts why it shows up. Yes it works but you need koush's signature... He just cant get the bootstrap to be better than the one we currently have..

Funny, I remember telling Wayne of WJD yesterday how easy Google was to use because he wondered how within seconds of him tweeting about a new launcher, I had already found the preview video, lol.
I wonder how many times this forum has announced it, to include its very own thread lol

R u just searching for the SBF file so u that you can update?
...if thats the case (?), check the Development section, there is a Reference post that has all the appropriate files
reason
i want the update.zip to sit on my internal storage incase i screw up my fone too hard and need a quick way back
Well, if you screw up your phone that bad you probably won't be able to get into recovery, so you'd have to sbf from your computer. There is no update.zip, its an sbf file.

There is no .zip for the legit 2.3.4, you HAVE to perform the sbf.
thank you for the comfirmation, i thought my google fu was strong. i guess that somethings that has to be leaked?
I could ul mine when I get home. How do I do it? Which web hoster? I have never posted a large file.
I think you can get P3droids zip, right? Or is that 2.3.3?
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
even if we do have a 2.3.4 zip, doesnt the sbf still have to be done to update the kernel? other wise your just installing a 2.3.4 rom on top of 2.3.3 kernel. I could also be wrong about that.
When you UD-ota you are on 233. All the new stuff is in the update.zip that can be flashed from stock recovery.

I believe this is correct
I remember seeing in stock recovery an option for install update.zip
Idont know if this will work the same way as an sbf would, if u happen to mess something up and.need to get back. Could be worth a shot but it might also be dangerous so proceed with caution. Has anyone ever tried to do that instead of sbfing before?
Now im just curious, why is the the update 6 times smaller than the sbf. just a question, thank you for the zip, might be usefull, i was switching roms earlier and got stuck in boot up, but could acsess stock recovery, alas by then it was too late for me t find and put the zip internal. got a back up plan now!!!
I am probably wrong but I would think that its because the update.zip doesn't have the system partition and files like the sbf does. This is why I don't think it will work the same way.
FYI next time you are in a bootloop try just pulling battery and put it back in. Then plug ur phone into the wall. This brings u to the bootstrap and u can restore a nandroid or try a data wipe from there or cache/dalvik wipe. Then again I believe if a wipe was done prior to that it would have wiped recovery app settings being installed. But u may get lucky and still be able to get into it.
I have restored nandroid many times when stuck in bootloop by doing this.

Bootstrap recovery?

Ok rite to it I have the old cwr that came out along time ago for the x2, my question is, should I install or need to install the bsr the one signed for the x2 I know the one I have is originally for the atrix, but do I need to install this one or am I fine with the cwr I have now?.I'm thinking of flashing the new molten, I'm rooted, supercharged on 2.3.4.thanks in advanced......
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
You need both. The ReRecovery is just a flash (zip) version of the exact same cwr. You need the original to flash the new one. They work together. So while wiping data from cwr you can flash it before reboot and renew what you just wiped away. Read the 2nd post of my thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20985756&postcount=2
edit
Once rebooted you can install bootstrap again if you like. They are compatible with each other.
But you will find it will still work even though its gone. Just plug in and power off. The flashed ver runs from /preinstall and will stay untill another data wipe. Then YOU GET TO FLASH IT AGAIN!
Ok thanks I appreciate the info

Lol true
it is still the same bootstrap tho
Now we are able to get into it after a ROM flash or data wipe by flashing your creation.
I just can't believe it took this long for someone to create that . Good job
Now I can't wait to see if that can be baked into a ROM zip so that upon flashing a ROM, the last thing it does is install what u made so it's all just one easy step for everyone. For us forgetful types they are so used to just flashing and hitting reboot lol
Forgetting what?

To flash the BSR installer before pressing reboot.
If it was built into the ROM zip then no one would forget and we would have BSR available after every flash

I should bE sleeping lol

Where in the process are you getting these errors? There are multiple steps to installing ICS that this could occur. What ROM are you running right now? If stock, is it 2.1 or 2.2? Do you have CWR installed? Is it installed with Update.zip or through ROM Manager? Did you flash CM7 before ICS?
Simply putting that you got this error is not enough information for us to diagnose and help.
Edit::: also please don't spam the other posts with "Good" or "Great to hear that" to get your post count up like was done in Themes and Apps section. There are many threads to that you can post in to get the count up legitimately.

That is the problem. Go to my guide in the General or in my sign and follow it.

You must install CyanogenMod 7 before install a ICS rom.

this is what i did, when helping my friend boot it up,
you have to make sure your rooted
then install ClockWorkMod recovery onto the phone,
then install CM7 after it boots back to recovery
then wipe data and cache
then install ics passion wait for it to boot all the way back to recovery for the last time
install the clean up patch and the phone will work perfect
i had the same problem, thats what i had to do make sure it worked perfect

what if you didn't let let it settle for 20 minutes? I didn't most of thing seems alright, except that the dial keys seem to be sticky if I hold it a hair too long, like when you try to do quick dial, the key will stay selected and you can't dial other numbers until it unstick.
I'm using Passion 13, not sure if I have kiss 2.2.
A question for everyone: can't Passion 13 or ICS for Vibrant in general let you assign phone number for quick dial? You have to use direct dial widget?

Usually a boot into recovery, fix permission and wipe cache and dalvik cache will clear this up. But sometimes it is just a bad download too.

It is always a good idea to let the phone go through a "settling" period after you flash it. There are RAM tweaks to finish, media scanning and a host of other things that need to be completed as you just installed a completely new operating system on your phone. Especially don't log into Market or Titanium and start restoring as this can cause problems long term. What is 20 mins compared to problems and hassles for the next few days/weeks.
If you don't know if you have Kiss 2.2 on your phone, then you don't have it b/c you have to flash it. See HERE

Don't use rom manager or anything for the x. You have to install our specific one. Here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318083
Also once you have installed cm7 make sure to installed the patched bsr or you will run in to issues.

Yea I dont think we can use Rom Manager until the X2 has some some sort of workaround to unlock the bootloader. You'll always just flash stuff through the bootsrtap recovery apps, just make sure you follow the directions as to which one you are to use for the specifc rom.

Um you're asking for trouble, its only a matter of time. DZK even says used the patch BSR, its required.
Strange I've had the same experience. I'm on pa Rom and can't for the life of me get the cm7 bootstrap to work at all. I have had to use the original recovery also. I have had some strange issues that no-one else is reporting so I'm wondering if has to do with that. Anyone know what problems using the original would cause? I was thinking if it booted into recovery.....it was recovery.......but maybe I'm wrong.
