[Q] Buttah.zip vs classic nerd SE.zip - TouchPad General

Since the "Buttery Biscuit" rom is still in development, which is better, Classicnerd_SE or Classicnerd_ICS_Buttah? I am currently running SE and it is quite amazing! I'm. Just looking for some input while I anxiously await the official release. Thanks guys!
And if you haven't checked out classicnerd yet, DO IT!!

Flashed Buttah earlier. Superuser works correctly now. Seems smoother than SE. CPUtuner works correctly on buttah as well.

Thanks for the reply! It took a great deal of work, but I finally got SE to work for me last night. It seems that I have the Buttah zip installed as well because when moboot comes up I have an option to boot Classicnerd and an option to boot ICS, but no matter which one I choose, my "about phone" screen always shows SE. Its weird in my opinion, but it works and that's all I care about.

Where do I find these roms? There is no link anywhere

The correct entry is Classicnerd. I don't think running from the ICS entry will cause you any problems but you may want to clean it out so future updates have the space they need on the /boot partition.

I am on SE, and it is quite smooth. I probably won't upgrade until the KY edition drops.

Dude never believe what other says abt any rom..flash urself....as it might be good for u but not for others...as not everyone use all the features in Android....

I agree, you definitely need to form your own opinions, but sometimes I like to know what others think as well.

I've been following both the XRON and classicnerd threads pretty much since they started...
The "SE" build was a preview originally put together for a closed test team, and came before the "Buttah" version which was offered in the open (although still alpha status, even though they put it into a "beta" directory).
They're both made by the same team from the same sources. Buttah should be more polished (and from what everyone is saying in the dev thread, it sounds phenomenal already).
I'm waiting 'til it comes out of alpha before I switch away from 2.9.1, but I'm definitely drooling over what I've read.

I have tried all four classic nerd ics versions and buttah is the first one that has my touch pad charging quickly and battery life is very good.

oh man you're missing out! ics buttah is sooo silky smooth and pretty much stable (minus the major problem all ics roms have). the major difference between SE and buttah is the charger fix. my TP now charges when I use it while it's plugged in. before it would keep on running down
if you do decide to update from SE to buttah remember to wipe data, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik cache several times before flashing on. also i would run the remove moboot entries just to be sure

Sweet Buttah!
I flashed Buttah about an hour ago. This is really, really nice and smooth. Amazing for an alpha software version.
A few things not working on my tablet:
Headphone audio
Dolphin HD browser crashes when trying to play Flash video
That's it so far.

If you are moving from a cm from there is no need for acme uninstall just do factory reset and wipe cache. Do this at least 3 times (just to be safe) and then flash the from and gapps from clockwork mod.

I was finally able to get Buttah to install last night via CWM by downloading the .zip straight to the touch pad instead of transferring from my PC. In the spirit of the Xron roms, I decided to try installing it as an "overlay" to the SE rom and so far I haven't had any issues. I had to reflash the gapps, but I was expecting that. Now in my Moboot I only have an option for Classicnerd and no ICS option.

Not sure about the update anymore

It's not clear to me why some people had a successful webOS 3.0.5 update with Android installed, others didn't. And some people even had stock Touchpads which have problems now after the update? Wow!
If I'm on 3.0.4 with XRON 2.9 installed; what is it I have to do in order to successfully update without having to wipe everything and start anew?
I've read this thread two or three times, plus this other thread, which seems to be ONLY for people who had a failed update, and I'm not entirely sure.
Can someone help with a 1,2,3 kind of scenario?
Thanks!
Well, it seems so far(that I have noticed) that the update will fail if you are using moboot 0.3.3 or 0.3.4. Follow this, and all should be good.
1.) Make a nandroid backup of your android in CWM
2.) Make a backup of webOS(Launcher>Settings>Backup
3.) Make sure you have moboot 0.3.5
4.) Click System Updates in webOS and let it download.
5.) Once finished, try to install.
6.A) Based on my observations, it should install fine.
6.B) If for some reason it doesn't work, that's ok, because you have backed up everything. Follow standard procedure for removing android, and getting webOS back to stock, and install everything(moboot, cwm, android). Then once everything is back, restore your backups.

FWIW, I did the update yesterday without any major issues.
Prior to the update I had CM7 A3.5 installed and WebOS 3.04. My moboot was still on 0.3.3 as I had never updated it since my initial Android install.
I did the update in WebOS and let it do its thing for a while. When I rebooted the only difference was the bootloader was gone and it would just boot straight into WebOS 3.0.5.
I reinstalled Moboot (0.3.5 this time) and then booted back up into Android and all was fine. I hadn't backed anything up and I hadn't lost anything.
Of course, as always, YMMV.
I was on moboot 0.33 and webos 3.02 and the ota update locked into a boot loop.
Just had to doctor and re-acme CWM, CM7.1 and moboot before restoring my nandroid backup.

Thanks guys; I just rebooted to see the menu, and indeed I have the lastest MoBoot (0.3.5). So I am going to back everything up and do this tomorrow.
Thanks for taking the confusion away. I love XDA, but let's be honest, there is so much information, so many threads with thousands of posts, that the whole thing becomes impossible to digest.
Too much information is sometimes worse than having not enough information!

Good luck bud. Just be sure to back up both as I stated just in case the install doesn't work.
Sent from my Legendary 2.2 infused device.
not to add more confusion to this, but I upgraded without any trouble and I later found out I'm on moboot 3.3. once the upgrade was done I shut off the tp and when I restarted it went straight into moboot. So I'm not sure the moboot version is the critical factor here.
As long as you backup both webos and android I think you should be fine. Although I might ask if you still use webos enough to bother. I didn't see a whole lot new but I didn't spent much time on it.
I failed twice updating, restored palm kernels removed all preware patches and success. Moboot 3.0.4, xron 2.9 were untouched.

Edit 2: I removed twrp uimage from boot and all worked fine ics is fantastic, hope to get fully working one soon
Installed fine for me, like rohan32 says barely anything works but damn is it smooth. Really looking forward to CM9 now.
not a bad download it seems not to work with CM I removed CM and added moboot with recovery but uimage is invalid file size...
I had CM installed as well. I just wiped data in CWM and then flashed the Evervolv zip.

I managed to get it booting on mine, there's no wifi, no wallpapers, no screen rotation, it's very basic. However it worked.
How to:
Copy zip to your touchpad.
Boot into recovery
Backup your current ROM
Install ZIP
Full wipe of userdata/cache
Full wipe of dalvik cache in CWM advanced options.
Reboot
Enjoy
Could someone that's flashed it please share, what works and what doesn't?

No wifi.
no wallpaper, pic live wallpaper.
No market.
No file manager to at least install some apk I have on the touchpad.
Very smooth.
ICS is going to be great on it.
Finally a nice resolution, I hated how gingerbread looked on it, no matter how many launchers and tweaks, icons, ui and text never looked right.
ICS is looking awesome on it.

Question on flashing/rooting/etc

Hi All,
I'm new to flashing Android and have a couple questions to make sure I'm doing things right. My goal is to get Flapjaxx's ICS ROM for the 717 Note installed.
Here's the instructions from his OP and my questions in line:
Instructions:
1. Download to sdcard - I assume by SD card this means the MicroSD and not the base storage of the device? And the copy should be in the root of the MicroSD (or the base device if that is the right place?)
2. Reboot to recovery - Got this.
3. Wipe data/factory reset ONLY *ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED COMING FROM ANY OTHER ROM* - Unclear here. Does this mean that if my device is stock I DO or DON"T need to do a data/factory reset? Or that I do always and especially if coming from another rom? Ie do it always (and if so how, using the stock device command for reset/wipe?.
4. Flash Rom - How? I have mobile odin, found out it doesn't support on the 717 yet. I DO have the device rooted. Is there a tool I should put on the device OR will the device auto-flash the ROM after placed in the device and rebooted after wipe? What's the process? I've looked around but haven't found a guide that seems clear (trying to be safe here with my process).
5. Reboot and Enjoy
6. *Bug reports not necessary in this thread* This ROM ships As-Is
7. No this will not do anything to your bootloader.
Thanks in advance
Yea because it clears data that could cause problems with the new software. Always do a factory wipe in cwm and clear cache partition and dalvik cache too
You flash the rom with cwm which can be found in the dev section here. Before ya flash anything I'd do some research here because there are threads with very detailed instructions on the flashing process. If ya run into any snags just post back here and I'll try to help ya best I can

CJ, thanks for the reply. That definitely helps. I was able to finally find the thread I should have found first (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1586223) that explains the process. I guess I just need to be more patient and search harder
If I have questions I'll definitely post. CWM was the missing link in my process. I think I should be good to knock it out now. Wish me luck!
I flashed my GS2 to the early ICS leak and it really improved the experience on the phone, I can't wait to do the same on the Note!
You must have cwm or twrp recovery. Once you've flashed either one, make a backup of your existing ROM (custom or stock does not matter). Always wipe data/factory reset in recovery. Then select install zip and flash away. Follow the directions carefully no matter which ROM you're flashing. Mobile Odin is useless at this point. You will use Odin on your PC to flash a custom recovery. Once that's done you will most likely never use Odin again. Read up on how to install your custom recovery, boot into recovery, flash ROMs and mods...etc., etc.
Edit: SD card can be internal or external. Your choice.

So many choices! If it wasn't such a hassle rebuilding (desktop/app data/etc) I'd try a few builds
I am thinking of giving Apex a serious go. I've been doing a lot of playing around with the phone (how can one resist!) to push the envelope a bit and am finding that freeing up additional ram is something I need to work on. For example I've tried using ES File Explorer to playback mkv videos via Moboplayer. It works... for a bit... until the app crashes. My assumption is it's an available memory issue (but I could be wrong) as I hover at around 80-100mb free.
Anyway now you are motivating me. I might just have to do an Adwlauncher backup, kill it and setup Apex and see how it goes
Oh, and Tasker is fun as hell. Love automating the phone. How does anyone survive iOS....

Touch screen glitch?

Hello
first off let me say thanks in advance to anyone who can help me shed some light on this matter.
im trying to follow forum rules (i have used them before) and used the search function. so if i missed it im sorry. but here is as much info as i can give.
so i have a Tmobile samsung galaxy s vibrant. great phone love it. it had eclair on it. i used samsung kies to update it to froyo 2.2. that was the most i knew you could update a phone. until i found out you can do more. so i instantly wanted to flash to a the best ROM i could find info and was directed to the jelly bean Rom. i initially wanted to try the helly bean ROM (not sure if there is a difference) but im new to this and went with the rom i could find the most info on. found this guy on youtube. since i can post out side links yet. he calls him self "DJ eddie one" who was also recommended by the team passion forum. again im new to this so bare with me. so i tried to go through the process. I'm sure you all know that you cant just go from froyo to another rom. so i had to go back to stock. i re flashed the phone back to eclair via Odin by the same guy in his "return vibrant back to stock" video no problem. back everything up and made it back to stock. touch screen has response and i can unlock the phone and use it like normal. here is the deal now. after i went through the whole process of flashing it and going from ICS to slim bean and then to jelly bean. the home screen comes up and says "swipe here" or "touch here" or "start" or what ever. the screen does not respond. the volume buttons raise the volume and the power button turns the screen off and if i hold the power power button i get the "airplane mode"/"power off" options but cannot select anything. i thought i had done something wrong so i did the process over again. 3 times. even stopped at each rom change just to check it out as i processed through the process. no change. flash back to Eclair stock. and it works fine.
please help. i hate elcair. im sick of it. i want my free mobile hot spot back so i can listen to NPR news ap on my ipod touch in my car cuz i dont have a radio. and froyo blows too. if you're wondering why i can afford a snazzy phone and ipod touch but not a car stereo its because i drive an RX7. Cheers please help! i sure hope its something stupid (almost always is with me) i tend to over think things. plus i work on PCs and MACs for a living. i setup freaking networks for Allah sake. its frustrating to get stuck on a some phone software. AAAAHHHHHAAA.. *end rant*
thanks again.
hysterically yours

Go to the Helly Bean thread in the developers forum. Go to page one and it should have a link to the addon package.
I had a glitch like yours one time where the touch screen acted like it was unplugged (for lack of better way to describe it). I popped battery out and rebooted and it was fine.

and how would i do that? i mean what would cause the screen not to work? i was fine when eclair was on it and fine when foryo was on it. i go through the process of flashing it to ICS Passion then to Slim Bean and then to Jelly Bean and the screen just stops? i even stopped at eat Flash cuz i wanted to see what they looked like before made it to jelly bean. and each one the screen did work. i was thinking some sort of kernel file handles that or driver? correct me if im wrong.

and i cant seem to find that status 7 error thread you mentioned.
also one question. can i add the addon to the phones sd without having to flash back to stock?
Also thanks for your help. i may try this as well. i just want to get this thing working.

That is the link for the addon package. Choose the one for Helly Bean. Its up to you whether its the regular or inverted. Should be able to just flash away.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30237539
The second link is for the install method I used. It may be overkill, but its the only way that would work for me, and it gave me a good clean install. It looks like a lot but it really doesnt take long..
I'm sorry guys bare with me. while i try to grasp this. im currently running the recovery software CWM-based recovery V6.0.1.1
since i cant get the ROM to work the screen can i mount the phone to USB drive from that recovery? or do i need to Odin back to stock and start over? so that i can mount back the USB and transfer the files i need.

Well, that link is wrong, that is for the captivate, not the vibrant. Make sure that you are in the vibrant development section before flashing a rom. Here is the vibrant hellybean link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1811241

Thank you for clearing up that link for me.
In that thread stated are the files i need to flash the phone. in there is this link (http://rootaxbox.no-ip.org/derteufel/Helly_Bean/) which i have been to before. i guess i got confused as to what files i needed from the link because there are a few directories in there with lots of other files and i wasnt sure which i needed. Example; in that link if i click on kernel link it takes me to the next directory with numbers. ( i assume these are versions) then if i click on 113 it takes me to another dir of files. i can only assume i want the one that is lableled "Devil3_1.1.3_HB_vibrant_CFS_BLN_VC_20120807.zip"
im just confused as to what files i do need and what i dont need. im sorry to be such a pest.

thanks toast;
whats the difference of the inverted as apposed to the regular? if i try one can i go back to try the other?
in reference to your second link;
i can flash back to sock with odin no problem.
the rest of the items needed on the list though
Gingerbread bootloader installed
-Bionix V fishman ROM (2.2 with Bali kernel, any 2.2 ROM may do.. YMMV)
-latest CM9 nightly (ICS)
-latest Helly Bean All In One and Add-on package.
i can get this from the same link?
The rest of the items you'll need to search for. GB boot loaders has a whole sticky devoted to it, how to do it, etc.
You can find the bionix ROM and CM9 nighty (ICS) in the android development forum (hit your back button once and you should see the development forum)
You'll be fine, just download everything you need, follow instructions, and you'll be set.
I've never used inverted apps, I assume it changes the look of them.

Alright toast,
just verify with me that i found the right stuff here so i don't go on some wild goose chase.
Bionix V fishman ROM (2.2 with Bali kernel, any 2.2 ROM may do.. YMMV)
fond here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1441976
latest CM9 nightly (ICS)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1575170
the Helly bean and add on package was post already
this one i think http://rootaxbox.no-ip.org/derteufel/Helly_Bean/addons/
Yep.. with the Bionix ROM, I download and flashed the package via CWM, I didn't use the Odin image. Either way should work fine. Your last link is directly to the add-on package, here is the link to the ROM http://rootaxbox.no-ip.org/derteufel/Helly_Bean/rom/
I would download and use the 8/13 build of Helly Bean. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.
Just don't forget to flash to GB bootloader. You may have done that already, if not read about and follow the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117990
Have fun!
The inverted gapps change white to black and black to white, for example in gmail the screen will be black and red with white writing.
There are two benefits from this
1. They look cool IMO.
2. It uses less battery, white screens draw more current.
sent from my magic box to yours
Rotary, just received your pm. Seems like your still in the same boat. Touch screen not working.
Can you confirm your status now? It appeared that your touch screen will work while on eclair, but on no other ROM. Is that still your current situation?
Hey toast just looking over the thread, don't know if he still needs it but the hellybean zip he posted is a kernel zip not the ROM.

Update on this thread:
Last night via GTalk Rotary_Bunta and I:
1) Odined to stock, booted up checked touch screen. Worked good.
2) Flashed Bionix V, booted, touch screen working good.
3) Flashed GB bootloader, reboot checked touch screen.. working good.
4) Flashed CM9 Nightly... touch screen not working.
5) decided to proceed to see if phone just hated the ICS ROM, and flashed Helly Bean. Flashed x2, installed add-ons and touch screen doesn't work. Boots up and cannot slide ring to unlock screen.

Flash CM7 and then tell me results of that.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app
Update: He flashed CM7 = no touch screen response.
Tried different kernels. Power button won't even wake screen. Flash back to 2.1 or 2.2 and all is well. Touch screen and buttons work just fine.
Flashed Glitch kernel w/ cm7 to see if there were any changes at all, made no difference.

[ROM]{Alpha}(JB) Cyanogen Mod 10 MX2 Alpha-3 updated 1/12/2013

Thanks to DragonzKiller for his work on...
CYANOGEN MOD 10Credit to dzk for the inital write up here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1912280
Check out the original write up for a list of all the features
Whats working:
WIFI (if the patch works)
Bluetooth
3G
Calling
GPS
Google Now
Audio
Camera (see known issues)
Maps
sdcard mapping are as follows the internal sd card /storage/sdcard0 and the external sdcard /storage/sdcard1
Taken from original post
New to Alpha 3:
New cyanogenmod updates/features added in.
use the regular bootstraprecovery not the cm patched one make sure to install it everytime you wish to use it.
Known issues list from the original post
Recovery: Fixed in Alpha 2!
Stability: While not exactly an issue as CM10 is INCREDIBLY more stable than CM9, that doesn't mean that it's 100% yet. As of now, I've only had the broswer crash twice and the notification drawer flicker once. Your milage will vary.
Camera: At it's current state, the camera (not camcorder) will work. HOWEVER, the preview for the camera in the main camera app does not at the moment. It only shows a white rectangle. If you point at something and press the button, it should take a photo. Other camera apps show the display, but update it very slowly causing an ANR. Again, your milage may vary. ** Fixed in Alpha 2 (except camcorder) ***
Some ICS/JB Apps Will Crash: This is noticable on Chrome for example. This is because our drivers don't have Exteral OES Textures. Basically that means when the apps want to draw using them (such as with Chrome's tab preview) the app will crash. This is the same problem on CM9/ICS. There is nothing we can do.
Data usage: Just don't ask me. I might get to it again one day. We'll see.
Apps on SD Card: Do not persist on reboot, expect fix in Alpha 3?
How to install:
Again credit to DzK
This can be installed over CM7/CM9 or BLUR but you MUST wipe data and cache. SBF if coming from Alpha 1.

You would flash the rom that ive patched and the gapps link goes to the same place as dzks mine just has a different url format. and if youve had issues with sbfing id wait till alpha 2 before flashing cause as far a i know the same problems that happen with the dx2 are happening on the mx2 with alpha 1 though i havent confirmed it. dzk has gotten a recovery working for alpha 2. id upload that one but it wasnt posted at the time of writing the guide.

no problem i exist to help. even if i dont know much development or have time to do it myself. and yah i think i shot myself in the foot with alpha 1 gonna see if i can fix the internal and external sdcard maping issue. thats the only thing thats keeping me from deciding if this is gonna be my daily driver or not, that and the fact that i might have to sbf to flash anything else.

thanks for the update that just confirms what ive found. ive remaped the /mnt/sdcard and /mnt/sdcard-ext paths on mine allows easier viewing of the sdcards but doesnt enable app access. must have something somewhere else that would fix that till alpha 2 is posted but no such luck so far.

Lrs121 are you working on a patched mx2 version or do I need to try to remove the kernel check and repackage. No rush, nor am I begging, just asking cause I can't do it till later. Also I've yet to go to cspur and see if they'll fix my 3g so when I nandroid back to stock I'll do it then.

Already done and uploaded check the links i did a quick and dirty op update ill fix it later
Thanks so much and a side note on my 3g saga I'm trying to get in touch with a buddy of mine who is a tech at cspur to see what he knows about the carrier files. I feel as though I should be able to pull them from a nand seeing as 754boy was able to sbf with ntelos and nand back to stock and get cspur back. There has to be a way, but that way may require an unlocked bootloader in order to flash a radio. Thoughts?

Can't believe I have jelly bean on my MX2. Just booted for the first time. Hoping for the best
Edit: After initial flash and google account setup, my wifi will not turn on even though I flashed the wifi patch. Will try to reboot and flash again once all of my apps are restored.
Edit 2: Installed recovery, flashed the wifi patch and then rebooted. Phone is stuck at the Motorola M logo. Looks like I will be starting over again.
Edit 3: Flashed CM10, gapps, wiped data/cache, flashed wifi patch and rebooted. Stuck again at the Motorola M logo. Rebooted into BSR. Wiped data/cache, flashed CM10, gapps, wiped data/cache again, flashed wifi patch and rebooted. Everything seems to be working now, even wifi. Strange........
The WiFi gave me no trouble and its faster or at least seems to be more stable is probably the best way to say it.

not really if you can find the files there a motorola tool that connects with your phone running through a standard usb connection. Motorola phone tools i think its called. i havent touched some of that stuff since the original razr (non-smart phone version) came out so i dont know. i was talking with a tech at Inland (my carrier) and he said something of the name of the tool he was using i just cant remember right now.

sometimes it takes what i call the 3-triple-wipe to get things going.
nandroid
wipe the 3 (factory,data/cache, dalvic)
flash rom
flash gapps
flash wifi mod
wipe the 3
flash ra recovery(not valid with cm10&something to put between wipes)
wipe the 3 again for good measure
If that doesnt work for me i nandroid back to stock and go from there, sometimes i even go so far as to sbf twice to make sure nothings left from the previous roms.
If you ever get anywhere with this please let me know! All that's missing are the carrier files for your phone. I sbf with ntelos then nand back to my stock rom. No data and said I was roaming all the time. Bought it in and they just flashed the carrier files and everything worked as normal again.
Let me know again if you get anywhere with this and if you need or want any help just let me know and I'll try my best to help!
