Again thanks to xda. Flashed a new 2.3.7 ROM in x10 mini. Here are the steps from scratch.
Check the update, kernel and firmware version before proceeding.
The whole procedure involves
1. Rooting (with Busybox installing)
2. Installing the recovery
3. Unlocking the bootloader (this tutorial is for only unlocked, first hand, SEMC certificate devices)
4. Flashing a new kernel
5. Flashing the ROM and google apps
6.
Before proceeding backup the contacts, messages, notes etc. (Titanium backup can be used after rooting)
I. Rooting
1. Download the Superoneclick from here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=485088&d=1294607042 Unzip the contents into required folder.
2. Enable the option to install from unknown sources in phone
3. Enable usb debugging in the phone
1.
di. It is desirable to have sony ericsson update service installed and the phone recognized (with necessary drivers installed)
5 .run the superoneclick.exe
6. insert the cable and select charging in phone
7. select root
yes it is done. Reboot your phone. Go to the apps menu and confirm a app called super user is installed.
Then go to the market and install following 3 apps
1. busybox
2. root explorer (for later use)
3. astro file manager (if needed)
II. Installing the Recovery
1. Download the necessary files from here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=616283&stc=1&d=1307259517
2. Unzip the files and copy the bin and xbin folders in system folder to sdcard of phone
3. Open the root explorer and mount as r/w instead of r/o
4. Then move the contents of bin folder to /system/ bin folder in phone and xbin to xbin (only contents, not folder)
5. Change permission of all the files, by ticking all the boxes.
That is it. You have now clock work mod recovery. This can be confirmed by using astrofile manager to see if there is respective files moved. Or power off the phone and switch it on again, when the logo of sony ericsson comes keep pressing and releasing the back switch of phone. If everything have gone correctly till now you will enter the recovery mode.
III. Unlocking the bootloader (for installing a custom kernel)
1. download the flashtool from (0.5.3 -I used) here. http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/
2. before advancing further download the required ROM (for me miniCM7 from http://minicm.googlecode.com/files/MiniCM7-2.1.6.zip )and google apps from http://cmw.22aaf3.com/gapps/gapps-gb-20110613-signed.zip and copy both to the root of sdcard
3. open the install location of flashtool and install the ggsetup-2.2.0.11.exe file inside and install Gordon's Gate found in /drivers folder
4. then restart the computer, open the task manager and kill any process named adb.exe
5. donot open flashtool after this till needed.
6. Download the s1tool to confirm the unlock certificate of phone from http://db.tt/OrOQO33 and unlocking tools from here http://db.tt/0zUMR5S4
7. Unzip the s1 tool to the designated folder and run the s1.exe. Switch off the phone. Select the Do Job button and wait.
8. Connect the phone in flash mode (switched off and back button pressed)
9. proceed further only if the screen shows semc simlock certificate
10. unplug the phone, switch it phone, connect to the computer
11. run msm7227_semc.cmd in the directory you unzipped the unlocking files to and press any key to start the unlocking process.
12. If everything goes correctly the log will show press any key at the end.
Now you have unlocked the bootloader we can proceed to kernel flashing
IV. Flashing the kernel and ROM
1. download the require kernel.ftf from auther's site (for me the kernel suiting my ROM was nAa kernal from http://minicm.googlecode.com/files/E10_nAa-08_2.6.29.6-nAa-08.ftf
2. copy this to the /firmware folder in flashtool install folder
3. run the flashtool and select flash, then flashmode
4. select the desired kernel
5. switch off the phone and connect in flash mode when pop up requests
6. disconnect phone when the tool says so
7. switch on the phone and enter the recovery mode when kernel logo comes by repeatedly pressing and releasing the back switch
8. in the recovery mode, do a backup from backup and restore option (up and down by volume keys and select by middle switch)
9. do a factory wipe data
10. then flash the ROM zip by selecting the option install zip from sdcard option followed by gapps zip flashing
11. finish this and take reboot (long)
Enjoy the new experience.

yeah..sure there are many. But I couldnt find a single thread giving out all in one. I had to search and stray around a lot. So thought it would be better like this.
Actually it was not for my phone, was helping out on my friend's. Mine is a poor little x10mini pro with orginal kernal and Mini CM ROM.
About bricking, I tasted it on my ideos tablet and took the trouble to bring it alive. So knows the scaring part a bit..
thanks any way for the wishes

Thank you for this good guide. It's simple but effective specially for non Android pro like me. I remember the first time I rooted my x10mini took me 2 days, the second 2 hours, this time 2 minutes.. no joke.
The strange thing was that a new version of SuperOneClick2.3.3 didn't work. It gave error when starting before I begin to root. The version supplied here worked!
Concerning Recovery/Unlock/FashRom, I'm interested but paranoid plus not very clear about their advantages. Thank you again.

hi there,
i'm having problems, can you help me please?
I couldn't install cwm recovery you posted, so instead i used CWMInstaller-Windows-v4-dl.zip, and it worked fine with my rooted u20i mini pro. I flashed kernel you gave us, and now i can't enter cwm recovery. When i turn on the phone, kernel logo appears, i start pressing back button, but nothing happens, the screen just goes black... Any idea what i did wrong?
Tnx!
Apologies for my reply being late.
The cwm installer you used is specifically for pro. I think you have to start again

Hi xperia masters
I was told a nandroid backup is the best thing to do before attempting any funky stuff with my phone. Ive had to, i think the term is flash, my phone twice alteady cause i made it "unresponsive". My question is: how do i make a nandroid backup? My goal is to change the stock boot animation to a cool custom animation i found here on XDA. Ive also done a bit of reading and saw things like rebooting in recovery mode. Im a total noob.
I have got:
SE XPERIA X10i, 2.1
Rooted with superoneclick, as z4root didnt work on latest SE upgrade
And i asume stock roms, cause i havent changed roms before
I have downloaded Rom Manager (clockworksmod) from the market,
but my phone model is not listed.
Please can anybody advise on my first coarse of action.
Im in xda developers room on palringo aswell, if tht makes comms easier
Thank you in advance
Download flash tool. Use it to install xrecovery. Nandroid is just the backup you make with recovery.

First of all, plug in your phone and enable usb debugging
Then open up the flashtool and make sure you run as administrator.
After the thing launches, press allow root perm, it would send an SU request onto your phone.
Then go onto the advance tab, you would see an option saying 'install xRecovery', press that and the flashtool would start pushing those files onto your phone.
Ok so ive downloaded flashtool_0.2.9.1 , on my pc.
I unpacked the downloaded file, opened the X10FlashTool application.
Only the first tab "flash" is in blue, all other tabs greyed out, cant click it.
Log message: 25/049/2011 11:45:36 - INFO -<- This level is successfully initialized.
In advanced all options are greyed out aswell, no action can be taken there.
What am i doing wrong????

Hi Y'all Thanks in advance for useful advice.
Yesterday I attempted to root my Xperia Ray with this method:
androidflip.com/unlock-xperia-phones-bootloader-without-losing-drm-data-track-id-working/
Unfortunately I ended up with just the sony ericsson boot screen coming up then going off and coming up again and so on. I think I've just about cleared the phone of everything.
any help mucho appreciated.
Have you tried using SEUS (Sony Ericsson update service) to flash the original firmware back on it?
Sent from my ST18i using xda premium
You could start with trying to just reflash the firmware with flashtool.
- How to use flashtool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928343
- Firmware: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316070
Btw, If you only want to root (you were trying to unlock the bootloader), use this after the firmware is restored: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1320350
Thank you i'll try this later...
3.Install Recovery, Busybox, custom kernels
4.Clean your Rom (remove /system/apps apps of your choice) (Be careful, unless you really know what you do, do not modify the default list. This can make your phone stuck at the SE Logo)
I didn't do 3. but I've cetrtainly done 4.. I do not have anything installed so there's nothing to "catch" any new ROM's.
Is my line of reasoning correct? If so surely there must be some way around this and one of you stars must know.

Really clear instructions and downloads. Thanks, but it says:
INFO - Device connected with USB debugging off
INFO - For 2011 devices line, make sure you are not in MTP Mode
INFO - Device deconnected
As the phone turns on and off again in repetition.
Where next?

this thing happens when u try to root the phone or when u have flashed the new firmware?
if is after u flashed is because you unfortunately you must wipe user data
It happened after I rooted the phonem and trying to flash software.
I am not concerned about user data, though thanks for your concern.
What am I doing wrong and how do I fix it?

That's one of the reasons why I felt limited when it comes to customizing the Ray.
I honestly wouldn't go for MIUI either because it's more Apple than Android.
With the release of ICS imminent, cyanogen will be focusing on making their version of it. I wonder what will happen to current cyanogen release. Will it be ever completed?
Hi all, i recently scoured these forums searching for the most simple way to achieve recovery on the Xperia S. Of course to no avail to a newbie like myself. My device is rooted and with ICS, with an unlocked bootloader. I initially tried to achieve CWM by using the application on the market (Prior to obtaining root but with unlocked bootloader & ICS). I recently tried to achieve CWM using the CWM - Xperia on the market and success it worked! Simply click the "Reboot into recovery mode" within the application and it will install CWM into the system partition so you can use recovery! I am unsure whether this has been posted recently but i avoided posting it elsewhere due to restrictions and the like, i hope this hasn't been discovered yet and im not just being ignorant to the forum i literally could not find any news of this elsewhere!
If needs be, i will make a guide on how to achieve this including the rooting and flashing steps i took.

CWM is some kind like the Bios from your pc...except does not have the same functions
it`s a recovery, where you can backup your rom and restore if something goes wrong with your phone!
with it you can install some custom ROM`s
you can clear cache...dalvik cache....and a lot more to do!
but really the mos usefull function of it is the backup-restore and the flash of different modules rom`s and kernels!
it`s better to have cwn just in case

install Sony PC Comanion first
second check the usb debugging box from {}developer options
then just plug your phone into the usb
after that double click on install.bat
i am on unlocked bootloader
i don`t know if it works with locked bootloader
it should work
another way to install CWM is to flash a kernel wich already have CWM on it!
to do that you must install fastboot driver an connect your phone in fastboot mode to your pc(with the phone shut off pres and keep volume up key and plug into USB untill the blue led is on)
than go to the extracted folder(in the attachment) and pres and hold shift key + right click
select from menu open command window here
in the cmd window type " fastboot flash boot kernel.elf" without the comma`s
it will install the Xperia SSpedd OC @ 1,67 MHZ and you will get CWM olso on your device!
After installing that to enter CWM pres volume up when booting the phone while the blue led and light stripe is on!
this is olso for unlocked bootloader,i don`t know if it works for locked bootloader since my phone is with unlocked bootloader from the day 1!
Again simply installing this APK from the market seems to be less daunting.

Since i see many people having problems with installing cm9 on neo v, i've decided to help them
If you're a noob, have a look at this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1409269
If you're not a noob, proceed with the steps confirming that you have performed the steps
PLEASE FOLLOW THE STEPS CAREFULLY
THE REFERENCE LINKS GIVEN ARE ONLY MEANT FOR READING AND INFORMATION PLEASE DONT FOLLOW THEIR INSTRUCTIONS TO DO SOMETHING TO YOUR PHONE.
Step 1: PREPARE YOUR COMPUTER
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Khrxo0-NieM
it will explain a lot please watch it, download links are below
thanks for the video....
Downloads:
1)Android SDK- http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
2)ADB Drivers- http://www.mediafire.com/?6u1zl54w3jnvvax (just open the .cat files(x86/x64) and the drivers will be installed )
3)After watching the video, download (http://www.mediafire.com/?4qoenin9cjn7s7i) fastboot and place(copy paste) the 3 files in your android sdk directory>platform-tools(for me its C:\androidSDK\platform-tools)
if platform tools is not present, please follow the video again you have to instll "tools" package in SDK.
4)Flashtool- http://androxyde.github.com/ -go to the installation tab and download it (130 mb)
Step 2: ROOT THE PHONE
If you have no idea about rooting, have a look at this http://droidlessons.com/what-is-rooting-on-android-the-advantages-and-disadvantages/
How to know that you are rooted-lookout for "superuser" app in app drawer, if found, you have rooted your phone.
if you are on official ICS 4.0.3 ,
1)[ requirements ]
a)stock ICS firmware 4.1.A.0.562 for your device
b)ADB drivers installed (if u are not sure, then install http://icxperia.com/doomlord/Flashtool-drivers.exe)
c)the tool http://bit.ly/ert_xperia_2011_ics_1
2)[ READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY! ]
This script will:
root ur device using "andorid emulator" trick
install Busybox (1.18.4)
install SU files (ICS specific)
do some checks for free space, tmp directory (will remove Google Maps if required)
Before u begin:
make sure u have installed adb drivers for ur device
enable "USB DEBUGGING" - from (Menu\Settings\Developer Options\Development)
enable "UNKNOWN SOURCES" - from (Menu\Settings\Security)
[OPTIONAL] increase screen timeout to 10 minutes
connect USB cable to PHONE and then connect to PC
skip "PC Companion Software" prompt on device
3)[ WARNING ]
make sure that no other adb server is running in background (e.g.: Flashtool, PCC, SEUS) and disable any antivirus
4)[ how to install? ]
Connect your phone in MSC (mass storage mode) mode(SD card can be viewed on PC)
make sure that you are on stock ICS firmware 4.0.3
download the files
extract ALL the files in the zip
now just double click on "runme.bat"
sit back read the on screen instructions
the device will reboot a couple of times
when the script finishes it will say "ALL DONE"
enjoy!
If you're on Official ICS 4.0.4 ,
1)Make sure that you have flashtool installed and that you're on official ICS 4.0.4
2)You'll have to flash baseband of 4.0.3
a)Download the 4.0.3 baseband - http://www.mediafire.com/?gwe739kn5mcx56t and place the .ftf file in C:\Flashtool\firmwares
b)connect phone inMSC (mass storage mode) mode

h)press ok and follow the steps
i)phone will boot once flashed(may take longer to boot, dont panic)
j)voilla!! now you're on 4.0.3
3)Now scroll up and follow the same steps for 4.0.3
4)runme.bat will root the phone
5)Enjoy the rooted phone!!!!
My thanks to doomlord and madfysh
IMPORTANT !!!!!!
ONCE ROOTED,
Download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup&hl=en and backup all your apps(on SD card)
Step 3(next step) of this post will reset(factory reset) your phone.
BACKUP ALL YOUR CONTACTS AND CALENDER ON GOOGLE
BACKUP ALL YOUR MESSAGES AND IMPORTANT STUFF !!
MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR SD CARD ON PC FOR SAFETY (THIS WILL BE DONE AFTER ALL BACKUPS ARE DONE I.E. LAST BACKUP)
Step 3: UNLOCK BOOTLOADER
If you have no idea about this, read this
Why exactly is this a big deal? For the general population, this doesn’t matter. However, for the modding community, locked bootloaders are simply a pain. When the bootloader is locked, certain portions of the device are unable to be customized such as recoveries or kernels. A lot of the time, when rooting a device, the first step requires the bootloader to be unlocked or bypassed. So, depending on the device in question and the will of the developer, creative Android hacking has allowed some devices with locked bootloaders to run custom ROMs. Generally, these devices aren’t as stable as they could be if the device was able to be completely customized from the ground up.
1) http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ and follow the steps carefully ( skip step 13, we've already done that )
IF YOU GET STUCK ON STEP 14,DO THIS
to navigate to android SDK folder, use this command(without quotes)
"cd location_of_your_android_SDK\platform-tools"
for me, it was - "C:\androidSDK\platform-tools"
2)If you followed the rules, you will have an unlocked bootloader
3)Yipeeee !!!
4)Dont worry about your apps, they're still on your SD card
5)Restore only the apps which are very important and you cant live without them for a day..
Step 4: INSTALLING CWM(CLOCK WORK MOD / RECOVERY)
if you dont know what cwm is, just read but dont follow the steps to install it
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile...-and-how-to-use-it-on-android-complete-guide/
1) http://www.mediafire.com/?73xv18tht0e8zt4 download cwm
2)Connect your phone in MSC (mass storage mode) mode and wait until SD card available to PC
3)increase your display time out to 2 minutes
4)Enable USB debugging and allow 3rd party/unknown sources
5)open the downloaded folder(extract first)
6)Run install-cwm1.cmd
7)sit back and enjoy!!!
8)once finished, you'll have cwm installed!!!!
9)to check if you have cwm, turn off phone
10)turn on and when sony logo appears, repeatedly press vol down button until you reach a blue colored menu, if successful, cwm is installed properly!! if not, please comment or reinstall it.
11)navigation in cwm-
go up-vol up
go down-vol down
select option-home button
previous menu-back button
thanks siddharthsure93
Step 5: TAKING A NANDROID BACKUP
if you have no idea about this, read this
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/38468-nandroid-backup-what-is-it-and-did-i-need-it/
make sure that your sd card has at least 1gb free space and you have 50% battery charge
1)Hoping that you have cwm installed, turn off phone
2)Enter cwm by repeatedly press vol down button when sony logo appears
3)go to "backup and restore"
4)select "backup"
5)wait for 10-15 minutes till your phone is backuped
6)now you have a copy of your current phone and rom memory
we do this to restore phone if something goes wrong
NOW YOU HAVE PREPARED YOUR PHONE TO GET CM9 OR ANY FU*KIN ROM !!! :good::good:
IF I GO WRONG SOMEWHERE, PLEASE CORRECT ME WE ALL LEARN FROM OUR MISTAKES.
PLEASE PRESS THE THANKS BUTTON IF I HELPED YOU

I have a noob question
Im with a neo v with A.0.62 firmware
Which cannot be rooted
But i have already unlocked bootloader
what can I do now?
If i directly flash in JB Kernel and rom, will I be able to have root permissions? Do i even need to care about my .62 firmware if i want to go into CM10?
What should i do? Thanks!

You will need to root your phone first. Installing a custom ROM won't automatically give you root acces. In fact, I don't think you will be able to install a custom ROM without ClockWork Mod Recovery which needs root access first. Follow Sony's own rooting guide here: http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/41119?start=0&tstart=0. Then install X-Parts from the Play Store to get CWM.
Once you have CWM you can install any appropriate custom ROM you like.
Oh is that gonna be painful
Iv unlocked bootloaded with .62 firmware
So i cant get to official ics and stucked with the .62, flashing an older firmware for the root is risky? After that i have to go back to .62 again?

Use flash tool and an ftf file to update to ICS. You can go with 0.587 version for example.
After update as you are on unlocked bootloader you should flash a custom ICS kernel like suave, night elf or any other ICS compatible. This will give you root and cwm.
Look at the stickys. You will find all you need.

You can always relock the bootloader (don't know what method you used to unlock, so can't advise on how to relock - I only know how if unlocking was done through Sony). Update the firnware to stock Sony ICS using Sony's PC Companion. Then root it using Sony's rooting guide. After rooting you can unlock the bootloader again. Install X-Parts and CWM. Then try out the custom ROMs+kernels to your heart's content.

On the other hand, unlocking via official method gives you an easy option to Relock bl via flashtool!
There's a thread by Blagus on how to do that!
Btw even Relocking via setool is an option for unofficially unlocked bl users!
So there's always an option!

If this is what you're talking about, I've read it. But will it allow me to use the PC Companion and receive updates(Although I hardly feel there's going to be more than 1 update)/ Go back to official Sony ROM?

Yes. That's the tutorial I'm talking about. I only mentioned what I did because I've done it before. After relocking use PC Companion to update your phone. Or the Sony phone repair program. I don't remember which. If you try both (like I did) one (or both) of them will work. But still you are out of warranty. You know that, don't you?

Basically its all about DRM loss. What do I exactly lose? Only trackid? I suppose the newer versions run on unlocked bootloaders as well.

I think you are right. It's basically about losing DRM. I don't know what it is and of what use it is. All I know is I've never missed it. If you are into trying out custom ROMs then unlocking the bootloader is a must because certain custom ROMs need custom kernels. To install custom kernels you must have an unlocked bootloader.

Yes, I installed drivers, when I go to import device it just says that there's no device to import.
Also, after trying one more time, when I press the confirm button (step 5 of the tutorial) it says that an error ocorred (it says something about memory and to try again),

For this you will need Flashtool and Xperia drivers intalled on your PC. (Installing Sony PC companion will do)
Well, what you need to do is download the kernel of previous version. I have attached a file but I am not sure if its the old version. (.10)
Flash FTF of your desired STOCK rom ICS via Flashtool.
Flash kernel of any version before 6.1.1.b.1.54 .
Root it using the file attached.
And you are done!
Make sure the USB tethering is ON in Settings >development !
I have attached the files on page 11 on this post:

NO, but don't worry.
Is your bootloader unlocked?
if not, this must be the reason.
if ýou have unlocked bootloader then,
Flash kernel again and root it using .10.
I am thinking you must have disconnected the phone in the middle.
Were you on administration when you tried to flash it ?
You must give administration rights to run the programme.
Were the drivers properly installed ?
A screen came and said to restore and then you didnot disconnect your phone till the programme asked you to ?
Have you followed instructions properly ?
IF all this doesnot work, Flash FTF of ICS of any ICS you like . Root it again !
I have rooted my phone so many times with the file i sent !
And you are using the option 1 when it asks you to root. You are rooting a mobile and not a tablet.
If anything you need to ask, I be writing you back!

I tried following this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527159

As I suspected, your phone has come with locked bootloader. This means that Sony will not support your phone to be unlocked. The reason simply is they do not want to give out cheap phones so you can use any other sim on your phone. However, you can only run roms which support locked bootloader and you can not experiment much with your phone as it will brick your device. There are quite few roms which support locked bootloader. Further, the tutorial is simply from Sony and thus will not work for your phone!

OK, one last thing, I found this rom (it says that works with locked bootloader): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=194647
But in the instructions it says to flash it via CWM (I know that it's a custom recovery), I searched and the tutorials I found either ask for root or unlocked bootloader.
The text file attached in OP doesn't help much as I am not able to know which FW are you using.
I assume that the FW is greater than B.1.10 which Is why u are facing problems while rooting as the FW used in the guide in OP is B.1.10.
FYI, B.1.10 was directly rootable without much hassle just by following the guide but if you have a C.1.0 / B.1.89 / B.1.100 Stock Rom on your device then you will have to do some extra steps

You don't need to unlock your bootloader in case of flashing stock kernels.
Unlocking bootloader is necessary to flash custom built kernels.
