What recovery do you think is better as of late?
And which one do you use on your 3D?

For this choice, it all depends on what your phone can handle. I've been on clockwork since the Hero days and never deviated until I finally was able to put TWRP on.
I'm a sucker for themes, and when they said you could theme TWRP, I knew it was for me.
Twrp! The touch controls are awesome.

Clockwork has new touch controls now as well. While not as good as TWRP they are still touch enabled

TWRP features a touch screen, faster flashing, waaaaaaay faster backups and restores, and is overall better than clockworkmod.
However, some factors may stop you from using TWRP. It is buggy and support has ended for it, but I haven't encountered bugs so I don't see need for more support.
CWM has more features but tbh most of them aren't really useful. It is probably the most stable, so if you care about stability, CWM is for you. You'll still be stuck with hardware navigation (no touchscreen) and sloooow backups/restores.

Support has ended for TWRP?
I prefer TWRP. I'm not a fan of CWM recovery. I used CWM once on my Hero CDMA, but I never liked it.

Sure did. They have a whole write-up about it over on their website.
Cwm is stable with more features...more technical features...
I tried twrp.2.0...loved it specially the touch screen feature. but occasionally while doing nandroid it turned off my screen... I can't navigate.... I need to pull out my bat then redo process.. read same problem on some users too.. I will wait a little longer when its stable...

TWRP is better IMO.... updated when TWRP 2.0 came out but then went back to TWRP 1.1 ... i don know if it was just me but TWRP 1.1 is much faster then 2.0 luved the touch screen feature tho.....
Apparently some of Team Win will still be working on adding features to CWM. Development for TWRP has ended and although I preferred TWRP, CWM should start getting better while TWRP slowly dies off.

The easy way is to download ROM manager and once installed click on "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery". That's it you are back.
Yeah I love twrp 2.0. Works great for me, touch and super fast. I haven't encountered any bugs. However, I put it on my sisters phone and she gets the bug where screen goes black and battery must be pulled. Not sure why it'd happen to her and not me?
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
2.0 is WAY faster than any previous builds, or any other recovery that I've ever used for that matter. i believe that it actually utilizes both cores. I've never had a single issue with 2.0, but of course there are others that have. i am very disappointed that they have stopped support but who knows what will pop up next because of that things they have done.
Trust me, I tried that. Didn't work. I was using CM7 when this all happened. Kind of put me in a bind until I manually flashed twrp. thats when i posted that. But then I deleted that PG100 bla bla whatever file out of my root, and I LOST MY RECOVERY AGAIN! I ripped some hair out of my head, then put the file back in root, reflashed, got my recovery back, then flashed SYNERGY, and ran clockwork from there. then flashed clockwork recovery just as you stated and then it worked. LOL. Guess thats why they refuse to call the cm7 a beta and not a stable huh?

I had similar problems you just need to upgrade to twrp 2.0 v0.1 it still has an issue where, in the instances it would normally turn the screen off it merely resets twrp to the home screen but other than that its fixed

I thought I would stick with sense roms for a while, but I've had it a month, and I'm already using launchers to change the look and feel.
Anyways, I wanna try an aosp rom like cm7 or thunderbread.
Right now I'm running gingeritis 3d (sense), and I used the kernel that was recommended.
My question is, and I know this is a lot about preference but, what is the best aosp rom out there right now that's stable and fast? And what kernel should I use? battery life isn't a huge deal for me since I'm near a plug most of the day, but I'd like at least 6-7 hrs from it.
if anyone has any info and suggestions, I'd appreciate it

There is no best. there is all personal preference. The asop/asop type roms I can think of off the top of my head is OMFGB, MIUI, and CM7. All being at a stable point in development. So look at them and figure out which one you would like best
I'll just make this simple.
I'm looking for a
Kernel that works with cm 7.
It needs to be fast stable, and everything working.
What have you used?
Which ones did you have a good experience with?
I'm wanting to flash today and could use a prod in the right direction for my first aosp experience.
Thanks
(and if you have links, that'd be awesome)

I'm on taptalk right now so searching is a real pain. Look up imoseyn kernels. He has sense and asop roms. Go to the development section. Plenty of info there for you. Whatever you do do not rush into flashing something just because you want to. Read, research, read some more, then make sure you understand what your doing before you do, so if you have an issue you can possibly save yourself lots of headache.

I've done a ton of reading, researching and everything. I'm not a tech noob at all. I actually own a pc repair business. and I've successfully flashed phones before.
Like I said, I did the first flash a day or so after getting it (to Gingeritis 3D) and everything went fine. (after getting the correct radio that is)
Anyways, I choose CM7 and downloaded Zoom kernel, which is Here
The CM7 file i downloaded is: update-cm-7.1.1-Thunderbolt-signed.zip
Which I thought was the correct one.
I also downloaded a MR2.5 radio. Although I'm not 100% its the BEST one, but I know it works with CM7. and I did get a signal with it.
but even after wiping everything, and doing it over and over, I can't get past the white htc splash screen.
Do you have any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Solution Found!!
I had been doing everything right, but it seems Clockwork Mod Recovery was corrupt or something.
What I did:
I restored back to my last backup.
Opened Rom Manager
Click "Flash Clockwork Mod Recovery" (the top one, even if it says your up to date)
after it flashes CWM successfully, either download and flash a rom from Rom Manager, or do it manually as I did.
And after the flash, I rebooted, and it went right to the CM7 boot animation, and loaded perfectly.
If you were like me and searched google, and found lots of posts with the same issue, but no solutions. So I hope this helps others.
Thanks for all the help guys!
(goes to show sometimes you just gotta try anything and everything)

i've used many sense & aosp roms myself and will say that aside from sticking with an actual cyanogen rom directly, the latest "SHIFTAO5P" that's been re-worked by dhacker, 2.8 is really nice & stable(and the location/gps actually works).
I agree with you on the sense though, I could never stand the actual sense launcher and always just used Launcher Pro.
Also if you use aosp you will run into issues with the flash player. I know when I was on CM7 it happened. I tried out MUIU and I had problems with flash and I had to do that flash player trick (look it up) to get it to work. I never tried OMFGB but I have tried CM7 and MIUI and they're both sweet. My favorite one is Liquid Smooth. but its up to you. They're all great

Amon Ra. It's in the development section. Install with the cleanflash tool found in the same section.

You can also install via fastboot:
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img
Just make sure to type in the .img part.
I always used CWM in the past (I paid for it) and was really upset when I saw all the problems people where having with it with the Rezound.
Then, I noticed virtually ALL the ROM developers where recommending Amon Ra (which I had never heard of)
I installed AR and was sold on it almost immediately. I could care less what my BU/recovery program looks like as long as it works (it cracks me up when I see people asking "what color is it" when trying to decide on a BU app).
I have done at least 8 total system restores with AR now and every one has worked perfectly with no drama whatever. That is the one and only thing I need my BU app to do.

From my understanding the Guy who made the amon ra recovery, which really is only ever made for HTC devices, is a God with recoveries. I always had amon ra with my evo 4g and the first time I had to use cwm I cried a little on the inside.

I was due for an upgrade a few months back and never owned a smart phone but was able to get this phone free 2 weeks ago so obviously took it. Was hoping to get a few of you photon lovers to guide me in the best direction to get the best perfomance out of it. I have gotten the phone rooted and that is as far as I went. Due to so many mixed messages as to what are the best setups I was just wondering if a few of you that have had long time success with a particular setup could give me some steps. Thank you very much for any help.

I guess my personal input is
1 -- if you are in an area where you can get 4G speed, then stop and just enjoy it
2 -- use it awhile and if it does what you want to do, then stop and just enjoy it.
3 -- remember that ICS is coming soon. if you are willing to use an alpha ROM without 4G, and there is also something you Must have, then consider a custom ROM. And then enjoy it!

1-- 4G isn't a big deal to me since it is in limited areas around here and my 3G isn't horrible.
2-- I am enjoying messing with it, just figured if I can give it a performance boost I would.
3-- As far as ICS goes, I have it on my asus tablet and love it but been getting mixed messages on when that will be available for us if at all. If we do get it, I'm assuming any changes I make can be reversed ( correct me if I'm wrong ). Also thanks for your reply.
i love the photon but it will never be 4gbunlocked so that sucks. i run gummy rom installed with kitchen sink. i have zero problems with anything. ive ran every rom on here. kitchen sink gummy is best. be careful about installing bravia through kitchen sink i could never get it to boot so i left it out. beats audio is cool though, as is the bigger ics keyboard.

If 4g is of no concern to you then i would definitely suggest that you unlock. The little tweaks and such you can make to stock rom just doesnt even compare to what throwing a custom on it would do for ya. The reason i would suggest doing that as soon as you can is because the latest updates will permanently lock your bootloader, this also includes the ics update that is soon to come. It cant be reversed at this time unfortunately. Do yourself a favor and dont get locked down to a rom that you will never be able to get rid of.

Yep, success with both. Tell me your entire installation procedure for each and ill try to point you in the right direction. Its probably just a simple mistake. Also, the versions from kitchen sink are not the latest versions. Installing a rom the good old fashioned way is less convenient but less prone to error.

Which version of cm9 are most people using? I grabbed the latest from Jokers site and seems good except I have no phone service lol.
Two different versions of cm9 and neither have a mobile network. I am using jokers recovery v3 to flash. not sure what I am doing wrong and damn the rom runs soo smooth, any help is appreciated. I am putting the roms on my sd card booting into recovery, doing a data wipe and cache then installing the zip from my sd. It boots into the rom fine although it does say something about an error once booted but the only problem I see is no mobile network.
Go to cm9 fixes thread, grab cm9 version 3.1. Wipe system/dalv/data/cache, install 3.1, boot, reboot to recovery, wipe cache and dalvik, install latest cm9, install gapps, reboot.

I've heard about the Boot Manager application that you can download from the Play Store and it makes it a lot faster to switch between roms. I know that the developer of the app is using an Evo 3D but does anyone one here use it? Have you had any problems when switching roms that you wouldn't have if you just used recovery? Is it worth buying the paid version or just keep the free version? Basically just wanting to know if it's as good as its made out to be or if I'm better off using recovery like I always have. Thanks.

I love it. Though one current issue is cm9 roms won't charge in a rom slot but work fine as the main phone rom.

I definitively plan on installing it. It seems more practical then using the recovery all the time.

I've always used TWRP on my phones, for years...but recently I keep getting stuck at the custom samsung screen during a reboot. I've seen others with this problem and heard that it may have something to do with the way it wipes the phone during a full wipe. But what is the fix? I almost refuse to go to CWM. I'm just tired of having to unroot and reroot, just to get TWRP to work normally. Let me know if you've experienced the same and what can be done. Thanks.
Been a lot of issues that have been obvious and many others that have been suggested to be due to twrp.
I switched to cwm probably 2 months ago

I really didn't want to have to...such a bummer. I guess I'm holding out because surely TeamWin knows about it and is fixing it. At least I hope they do. I knew that I wasn't the only one, was just hoping someone would have a tip that would save me some headache and keep me from having to switch.
For me sometimes it takes quite a long time to start. It seeming hangs at the teamwin startup screen for many minutes. Eventually it loads though.

Maybe I haven't been patient enough, but it never seems to get past that screen. It's weird though because guys like DROIDMODDERX on youtube flashes a ton of ROMS on his phone with seemingly no issues. I ended up just switching to CWM, even though I can't stand it. I guess I'll switch back when and if TeamWin address the issue. I wanted to try OUDHS and the other one that I can't think of the name of, but I'm leery of recoveries that I've never tried.

There are downloads of TWRP version 2.5.0.2 floating around that do not have the freezing issue. I will look around to see if I can find it or if I have it.

Thanks for the reply. That's the version that was just before 2.6 right? If so, I was having the same issues with it as well. I read in another post somewhere that it had something to do with the format all function, the one where you have to type yes to erase everything. That being said, I emailed TeamWin and asked if a fix was in the works or if there was a recommendation that they could make about how to actually use the TWRP so that I wouldn't have problems. I never got a response. So maybe I'll try to go back to 2.5...this is just really weird for me because I never had issues with my Note 2, ever. The only time I ever Odin'd back to stock was to sell the phone. I could flash 10 ROMS a day and never get stuck. Could be that I'm just dumb or missing something and that I'm doing it all wrong, lol, we shall find out. Thanks again.
2.5.0.3 and 2.6 are buggy 2.5.0.2 is great. There is also a flashable 2.5.0.2 in the link on my Sig below.
